Is Adobe is abandoning flash for good?

Just stumbled with some big news about flash:
http://www.technobuffalo.com/companies/google/android/adobe-confirms-mobile-flash-for-andr oid-will-be-pulled-on-august-15-no-flash-for-jelly-bean/
It seems that adobe is giving the middle finger to all the flash developers out there. It feels like they are abandoning flash slowly first mobile and who knows.... maybe desktop is next...
Its annoying that they give us developers mixed signals about them supporting the platform.
Am I the only one who thinks this? Maybe it's time to leave flash development because adobe is not giving developers reasons to support the platform at all.

Flash is an interesting tool, depending on what you want to do you can export your animation as a gif and it will be supported in most devices.. 4-ever!
..for me, the sad thing about flash is this bare AS3 capability.
I wish Adobe, or someone out there, could create a programming tool that works like Visio or SmartDraw (diagramming software), something were a user a coding impared person such as myself could use plain logic and connect some lines onto some boxes and create some interesting interactivity (if such tool was done right one may not even need to 'hand code' anything at all).
Visual basic, and that lego robotic software (for kids) work well like that, so could AS3 to a certain degree.
Being the visual tool that it is (I wish) flash could cater more to people who create visual content (who did not attend a 4 year course in Computer Science).  This stuff (programming) should be made easy!  But instead of brains flash is getting 'muscle'..... POWER.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool that swf's now can play a trillion poligons 'on the fly' (stuff the Macromedia Director was doing back in 1999).
But for the artist who cannot depend on a team of 'hard core coders' flash is only another tool for making flying logos.  Flash not an end in my pipeline that it could be.
I don't feel Adobe is abandoing flash, it feels more like Adobe is abandoning the flash user who creates visual content who would enjoy creating things for this platform.
Personally, I have no interest in upgrading the CS4 I own now any time soon.  Producing video is way more interesting than HAVING TO LEARN TO CODE to use this tool..  and video..  anything can play them, even my casio watch.

  • Come on, Adobe.  Fix Flash for Safari

This is a joke. There has been no response on this issue. I
    had no idea about
the trouble and am not looking forward to spending a morning
    trying to get an
older version to work. The player worked fine, I saw an
    update, updated and
now it's broken. I've tried for about 90 minutes to uninstall
    and use an older
version to no avail. This wasn't an issue under Macromedia.

No Flash for iPads, iPhones, or iPods
Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.
Here is Steve Jobs official comment on his momentous decision to omit Flash from iDevices: Steve Jobs on Flash.
Here is Adobe's later announcement to cease development of Flash for mobile devices: Adobe on Mobile Flash.
Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.
Apps that can display some Flash from the Web:
    Puffin
    SkyFire
    Photon Flash
    Browse2Go

Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

  • Adobe to ditch flash for mobile devices! A few questions

Just read the news. Have a few questions
    1. Is AIR still going to be used for cross platform deployment as that is what I am using now ie: will it be used to deploy html5 apps/programmes?
    2. What tool/IDE will adobe be using for html5 - flash? flex?
    3. All of our multimedia swfs etc... - can they be exported/used in an html5 environment
    4. html5 coding - is it similar to actionscript 3 ie: do we have to start all over again - back to school?
    5. Games coded with actionscript 3. Can these games be exported to html5 or must they be rewritten?
Flash stays for pc it looks like.
So it is no longer multiplatform - we will have to code for flash on pc and html5 for mobile devices - is that right or will there be some kind of packager that will export our flash to html5
    Just a few questions

I don't work for Adobe so my understanding may not be 100% accurate but here we go...
    1. Is AIR still going to be used for cross platform deployment as that is what I am using now ie: will it be used to deploy html5 apps/programmes?
Adobe will be concentrating on developing AIR for packaging  apps for mobile devices. AIR is ActionScript based and it does not produce HTML5 apps.
    2. What tool/IDE will adobe be using for html5 - flash? flex?
HTML5 itself is just a flavour of HTML and therefore Dreamweaver is the Adobe tool for it For Javascript based timeline animation etc, Adobe has Edge http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/edge/
    3. All of our multimedia swfs etc... - can they be exported/used in an html5 environment
Adobe has Wallaby http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/wallaby/ for this - I'm not sure how active the development is lately though. In any case it's impossible to replicate all features of Flash in HTML5.
    4. html5 coding - is it similar to actionscript 3 ie: do we have to start all over again - back to school?
Again HTML5 itself is just a simple set of HTML tags. JavaScript is very similar to ActionScript, as AS is based on JavaScript (ECMAScript). For example HTML5 Canvas drawing API is very similar to AS3 drawing API. Therefore if you know AS, at least you know the basics of JS syntax.
    5. Games coded with actionscript 3. Can these games be exported to html5 or must they be rewritten?
If you want it to run on browsers, yes. If you want to convert into apps then AIR does that.

  • Is Flash Builder dead? I just found out that adobe has dropped Flash on mobile devices

I did alot of research on software to develop apps for the mobile market. I liked Flash Builder since it will create apps for all 3 types of mobile devices at once. Downloaded the 30 day trial and have started on the 5 day training course.
Today I saw an article from sitepoint that abobe has dropped development and support for Flash on mobile devices.
The end result of Flash Builder gives you a .swf file in an html wrapper thus we are developing flash when adobe has dropped Flash for mobile. Am I wasting my time? Should I go to another software package?

the plugin for mobile browsers is the only thing they will not update in the future. The normal desktop browser plugin is very alive
Everything else is active... they are still continuing to work on exporting to Android,iOS, and rim playbook via AIRapps in both flash builder and flash pro.
The only difference going forward is mobile websites viewing flash (apps are unchanged). Basically... apple won
Not a big deal so far, but everywhere you look people are frantic and asking -whats next?

  • Need suggestions for good online Adobe classes in photoshop, ill. indesign etc.

Hi I am a graphic designer and would like some suggestions for good online Adobe classes ... I found
Adobe Master Series Online Training Library at the Adobe store and was wondering has anyone had good, bad ugly experience with this before I make the purchase. The suite offers training in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, and various Macromedia titles so it covers it all for me in one go.

A less expensive, non-subscription option would be http://www.vtc.com they offer many video cds for applications that have given many I know a leg up on learning an application.

  • Adobe abandoning FLASH??

My boss said he'd seen something in the paper about Adobe abandoning FLASH and is worried because we've been doing alot of our training development in Captivate.  Also he's concerned that future customers might have read something about it and not choose us because they believe FLASH is going away.
Anyone know anything I can tell my boss to calm him down?
    SUsan

    Hi Susan
As I understand it, Adobe has (or plans to) lay off about 700 workers. I've been seeing rumors fly yesterday about Flash. What seems to be the case here is that Adobe is backing away from a Flash Player for mobile devices in favor of HTML 5 and Apps. (Thanks Steve Jobs!)
I don't believe Flash is going away. Adobe has too much invested in the overarching Flash technology to just abandon it. So it would make sense that it would remain for things PC and Mac based, but not for smartphones and small devices.
These are just my own observations based off some notes I've seen in a behind-the-scenes forum for the Adobe Community Professionals group.
I'll try pinging the group and see if there is an "official" response you could point your boss to that may calm him.
    Cheers... Rick

  • I need to get Adobe flash for my kindle fire

Is there a free version o's Adobe flash player for kindle fire hd

Flash Player no longer comes built-in on the new Kindle Fire second generation or the Kindle Fire HD (they are released in September 2012). Adobe is making Flash obsolete, so it's no longer on any new tablets or mobile devices.
There's a good workaround to make Flash work on the Kindle Fire, however. See here for the details:
    http://budurl.com/KindleFireFlash
You need to install the "1 mobile market" from here http://www.1mobile.com/app/market/. Then install the Dolphin Browser from the "1 mobile market." Then install adobe flash from here for the Kindle Fire HD http://www.mediafire.com/?33ew28ztmlar44e and here for the regular Kindle Fire http://www.mediafire.com/?ktt26yv3j6jt1iv.
    Hope that helps.

there are some sites i want to go to and use but they wont let me on because i dont have Adobe Flash and Safari wont let me download it what can i do

Use a different platform that supports Flash.
Adobe has abandoned development of Flash for iOS. It turns out there were so many problems in the rewrite for iOS that they didn't figure it was worthwhile so they quit.

  • Is flash player good for a 3g droid, might there be a better app

is flash player good for a3g droid, or might there be a better app to choose

    Hello mario831,
As most of us may already know, Flash is the most popular format to use on the web. The Motorola Droid 3 is a great device that does support Flash. There are several benefits of having Flash on your device. For example, streaming embedded videos on websites like www.cnn.com and www.forbes.com are super convenient while on the go. Also, Flash allows all of the advertisements on websites to show properly. Some common websites that come to mind are www.msn.com and www.phonearena.com.
In my opinion, I am pro-Flash. It's an excellent addition to the Droid 3 and it brings the user closer to a seamless web browsing experience. Although there are other options available in the App Market, Flash Player and other Adobe products have been known to have the least amount of maintenance and work extremely well across multiple browser and operating system. Even though this is an opinionated topic, hopefully you will find some value in my opinion by using Flash on your Droid 3. If you decide against it then please reply to this message as I am eager to hear about what alternative that you decided to use.
    Thank you...

  • Adobe PDF for Goods Issue / Stock

    Hi All,
I've been looking thru the list of available Adobe Forms in SFP, and there are a few for purchasing (MEDRUCK etc) and some for issuing and receipting. I haven't  been able to locate any around the inventory control area.
It is easy to use adobe forms for Purchase Orders (assigned in Define Message Types for Purchase Order) however it is not clear in configuration where to assign an adobe form for receipts / issues and inventory.
Has anyone had any luck using adobe forms for these functions or is everyone still using smartforms? Does SAP even support adobe forms for Goods Issues / receipt and pyhsical inventory documents?
    Kind Regards,

Nomally,  PDF forms are supported for only External documents , since IM related documents are for the companys internal purpose i guess there isnt an option given for PDF forms for them . But there are standard programs which you can use to convert any Spool to PDF  SE38: RSTXPDFT4  .
Or you can install PDF printer , and get any output in PDF format directly from SAP.
Or you need your abaper to use OTF in the Print program to gte an outpurt in PDF.
