Is Air Drop the same as iCloud ?

Hi i have just started to download Lion, i see one of the features of Lion is AirDrop !, is this anything like iCloud ?.
I get the impression reading a bit deeper that Air Drop is for Mac's ONLY and iCloud is only for iPad's and/or iPhone's !! i am a little confused.
tim

No. AirDrop works only on a local network and does not depend on any outside servers. It operates between 2 Macs running Lion. See this page for an explanation.
iCloud is a totally different thing. See this page.
Best of luck.

Yes. Are you also talking about them using the same Apple/iTunes/iCloud ID for signing on?

Can you sync ibooks from an iMac to a macbook air with the same apple id?  Settings set to allow this.

If the ibooks were purchased from Apple, and download new purchases is selected in iBooks preferences, then yes.

  • Is authurizing a computer the same as icloud?

i got music from another laptop, and i wanted to transfer the music on to my laptop. but itunes asked i could authorize the other laptop. What does this mean? and if i do will all there songs automactically download on to my laptop?

No, it's not the same as iCloud. Authorizing will not automatically download anything. Anything purchased on someone else's Apple ID will not work on your Apple ID. Authorizing your computer will not fix that unless you use the other person's Apple ID.

Macs:  iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

No. There is no iDisk with iCloud. You can use one of several third-party alternatives like SugarSync, ADrive, or MediaFire.

Technical service in Spain is useless.  They told me to re-install everything again as when it's brand new, application by application to see which one is failing.  I have 150 applications.
If they continue in this direction they will end up like Palm
You can tell Steve Jobs is no longer in charge.
I'm thinking of moving to Samsung.

If this problem continued across an iPad with Retina to an iPad Air it is almost definite it is one of your apps causing the problem. Run it for a day with no apps loaded on it, if it doesn't freeze then one of your apps that has not been updated is causing the issue. And the Technical Service in Spain gave you correct information.
It was no different when Mr. Jobs was still in charge (I was around for iOS 3.0) and it is no different on a Surface or a Note.

  • PLS IS MY APPLE ID THE SAME WITH ICLOUD ACCOUNT

PLEASE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHETHER APPLE ID IS THE SAME WITH ICLOUD ACCOUNT? ALSO, IS ITUNE ACCOUNT THE SAME WITH ICLOUD ACCOUNT OR ID ACCOUNT? PLEASE WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES OR SIMILARITIES?

    Hi @ramatu ,
An iCloud account uses an Apple ID for identification. See this article for reference -
Creating an iCloud account: Frequently Asked Questions
Likewise, the iTunes store uses an Apple ID for purchases. It does not have to be the same Apple ID that you use for your iCloud account. See this article -
Using your Apple ID for Apple services
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Is the "cloud" app the same as "iCloud"?

Saw the "cloud" app, not sure if it is the same as "icloud" or something entirely different, would someone be so kind as to clairify this for me please?
    Thank you.

  • Is cloud player  the same a icloud

is cloud player on amazon the same as icloud?

I tried Cloud player premium as it claims to store up to 250,000 rather than Apple's 25,000 tracks. So it seemed a good idea.
Sadly, Amazon only found 16000 of 26000 tracks on my Itunes library and randomly missed parts of nearly every CD and Album.
So thank you Apple for iTunes Match, it may not be perfect, but SO much better in my opinion!

  • Is my mac acc password the same for iCloud ?

Is my mac accout password the same for iCloud?

It would be the same password for anything you do with the same Apple ID. The following quotation is from https://appleid.apple.com
An Apple ID is your user name for everything you do with Apple: Shop the iTunes Store, enable iCloud on all your devices, buy from the Apple Online Store, make a reservation at an Apple Retail Store, access the Apple Support website, and more.

I just purchased Elements. Can I install it both on my imac and mac book air with the same serial number?

Yes. You can install v12 on as many machines as you like, but only two can be activated at any one time. You should not be using them concurrently.

  • AIrplay icon does not appear with Apple TV and MacBook Air on the same Wi-Fi

Hi, I've just purchased a Macbook Air and have been trying to get Air Play to function with my Apple TV (1080p HD) on the same Wi-Fi net work (at home).
Althought both systems are up todate in software, share the same network and switched on, there is no Air Play icon availlable to share the screen on the Apple TV.
Has anyone experieinced a similar porblem and know how to initiat a connection?
    Thanks,
    Kim Johnson

I am now using Air Parrot on a trial basis and it seems to work fine. One flaw that I haven't figured out yet is that it doesn't fill the entire TV screen. I still think Mac should include a simple AP like Air Parrot in its latest OSX system for older Macs (and mine is not that old - 2010).
Do you know why I cannot properly sync my Iphone to my MacBook ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion? Certain events on my MacBook Calendar do not show up on my IPhone after syncing.
I do not use ICloud. I just plug my IPhone in to the MacBook as I've always done. If I made changes/additions to the Iphone in contacts or calendar, they show up on the MacBook. Same thing vice versa. If i make changes/additions to contacts or calendar on the MacBook, they show up on the IPhone. In two words, "they synced!".
This no longer seems to happen. Do you know why?

  • Currently have ipod touch 4 and am getting an iphone 5c. Want to transfer data to new phone. Currently all our family devices on one apple ID for purchases and it is the same for icloud. I want to create a new one for icloud for this iphone. What do I do?

Currently have ipod touch 4 and am getting iphone 5c this weekend. Currently our family has several apple devices and they have the same apple ID for itunes and it is the same ID that we use for icloud. I want to set up a separate icloud ID so that it is only on my new device. I still want to keep the same apple ID for purchases. Can I do this and better yet when do I do this...before the purchase, after the purchase and backing up of data. Where do I go to create a new one?

    Figured it out. Thanks.

  • Apple ID is not the same as iCloud ID and I need to activate my phone.

So my phone pooed itself and I had to reset it. That did not help and so I had to erase all of my settings. Upon getting to the activation page, it says that  my apple ID is not the same as my iCloud ID....although that is the only ID that I have ever used for my phone.
Is there any way that I can remove my phone off of the iCloud and then proceed through activation a different way?
Thank you very much for the help!

No.  In order to reactivate your device have to provide the ID and password that were used to activate it originally.  If you are not the original owner, you will have to contact the original owner to either get the ID and password, or have him/her erase the device and remove it from their account as explained here: Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account.  If you cannot contact the original owner you will not be able to activate and use your device.  No one else can help you with this and there is no way around it.
