Is AirPlay limited to 16 bit 44.1 kHz over an apple express modem?
Trying to determine if iTunes / AirPlay is limited to 16/44.1
When using a newer version Apple express modem?
The music being passed through the Airport Express is data. The output of the Apple TV, or whatever device connects to your speakers is determind by the hardware of that device.
If you output audio from the Airport Express using the audio out feature, then it would be up to the receiver.

Home Sharing & Airplay limitation ?
Hi,
Can someone let me know if this is limitation due to stronger copyright constraints on movies than on music :
I'm using home sharing between an iMac, 2 MacbookPros and an Apple TV 3rd generation.
I can perfectly airplay a movie from my iMac iTunes library to the Apple TV.
But when I try to airplay from my iMac a movie of a "Home Shared" library that I have access to (an iTunes library from one of my MacBook Pros), it's not possible as the Airplay icon is not shown anymore.
However, when I do the same for Music (airplay from my iMac a song of a "Home Shared" library that I have access to), I'm perfectly able to do it (the Airplay icon is still there).
So, bug or limitation imposed by Apple due to movie copyright constraints ?
Waiting for your precious input,
Regards,
DDAHello Burl3y,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're having issues with both Home Sharing and AirPlay between your MacBook Pro and AppleTV. For troubleshooting the issue with Home Sharing, take a look at the following article:

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore) -
Can access Apple TV via airplay, but can't get to internet or iMac from Apple TV
Can access Apple TV via airplay, but can't get to internet or iMac from Apple TV. Whenever I try to put my info in it says to try later. When I test network it says network time has not been set. It has worked previously.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Restart your mobile device.

Below is some info i get about ports.
I tried to set DMZ on my main router to have full access to ported to access point upstair which is in the ip of 192.168.1.2 and the main router in the living room is the gateway router with the 192.168.1.1 ip.
I still cant see apple tv after i try the DMZ method.
any suggestion ?
These network ports are used by Apple TV for communications on your network.
TCP port 123 is used to communicate with a network time server.
TCP port 3689 is used to communicate with iTunes while using the iTunes Library Sharing feature.
UDP port 5353 is used by Apple TV for automatically finding computers with iTunes on your network using Bonjour.
TCP port 80 is used for communicating with podcast servers.
TCP port 80 and 443 are used for basic and secure communications with the iTunes Store via the Internet.
TCP port 53 is used for regular DNS.
These are well-known ports used by Apple products, like iTunes. If you can use all the features of iTunes, these ports are likely already open on your firewall or NAT router. Note: These ports may also used by other services such as YouTube and Flickr. When the Apple TV is paired with a remote, it means only that remote can control it, when it's not paired any remote can control it. You will need a remote for each of your devices.

my airplay from my MacBook Pro to my tv through my apple tv is fuzzy- it just started being fuzzy about 2 months ago- it used to be clear- anyone else have this problem? How can I fix it?
Hi freezebri,
The following steps may resolve your issue:
Apple TV: Basic troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1551
If your TV screen appears fuzzy or black (you see no video)
Make sure the television you are using supports the Apple TV resolution requirements. Please see the Apple TV technical specifications.
When you connect power, check to make sure the LED turns on. If the LED is not on, then verify with a known good power outlet or connect something else to the outlet you're using for Apple TV and make sure it works (such as a lamp or clock).
Make sure you're using the correct video cables and that they are connected firmly to Apple TV and to your TV.
Connect the HDMI cable directly into the Apple TV and your television, remove any third party devices or adapters.
Make sure the input setting you've selected on your TV matches the input you have your video cables connected to. See the documentation that came with your TV for more information.
Change the Apple TV resolution by pressing and holding the Menu and Up button for six seconds. The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals. Pressing the Selectbutton will immediately cycle to the next resolution.
If you are connected via HDMI, try unplugging and replugging your HDMI cable.
If HDMI isn't working on an Apple TV (1st generation), try component cables instead (and disconnect the HDMI cable temporarily). Read more about HDMI vs component video.
Hope this information helps ...

Is uncompressed 8-bit PAL 48 KHz the most compatible format for a HDV dvd
I have shot a project in HDV, edited in HDV sequence. I now want to produce a dvd, that is compatible on both widescreen and 4:3 tv's.
A friend suggested exporting a quicktime movie in uncompressed 8-bit PAL 48 KHz to ensure maximum compatibility.
Would people agree with using this setting?Mark
There are a boatload of posts on exactly this topic, they come in waves ... nobody will ask this question for a week or two, then it'll be the same question 2 or 3 times a day
Nobody has asked for a week or two so I guess yours signals the start of the next wave! If you use the search function and you'll find the hundreds of answers that have gone before ...

Atv2 and two apple express for airplay, is it possible?
Hi, is it possible to stream from atv2 to a second airport express station?
atv 2 stream musik from icloud, the sound goes to the av-receiver.
also i like the musik in my kitchen and my bathroom with two apple express stations.
is it possible without iTunes on a mac/pc?
thxAs far as I know you can't stream from ATV2 to an AE station.
But you can choose which unit to use for your airplay from your iPad and iPhone - I think that is the way to do it for you. -
Horrible audio capturing 2nd stereo channel 12 bit 32,000 kHz
Hello,
I have DV tapes with 2 stereo channels 12 bit 32,000 kHz. I added a Capture Preset Editor with 16 bit 32,000 kHz 2nd 2 channels.
I captured only the sound of the second 2 channels.
The sound is horrible. At some places there is no sound, at other places noise.
How can I capture this audio with the same quality as when I play the DV tapes on my TV ?
Thanks,
HubertUse a preset that is 12bit.
Or make one, if one doesn't exist.

Limited purchase from the iTunes Store available to SA Apple users
I live in South Africa and the iTunes store only allows (limited) App purchases - no books or music. Can Apple or anyone advise why this is so and is the situation likely to change. Many thanks.
Thanks for your response. But I don't think this is quite correct. I have an Amazon account and have full access to their stock, including a vast collection (probabaly all) of their Kindle books - here I have no problem whatsoever purchasing the latest Kindle e-book best sellers, reference books etc. as well as downloadable software. However, the SA iTunes store does NOT offer one book for sale.
I have noted other posts on this site with a number of people offering an opinion. How can we get Apple to provide a proper answer. We afterall still Apple customers albeit somewhat neglected - maybe a large part of the problem is that Apple itself does not have a presence in SA. -

Airplay icon appearing, but clicking it doesn't work with Apple TV
I have a Macbook Air (new 2013, just arrived today). The OSX is updated. For some reason, the Airplay icon appears but when I click it and select "Apple TV," it just flickers for a second, tries to connect, but then disconnects immediately. The display does not show up.
Also, my Apple TV is up to date as well.
What should I do about this?
edit: I recently saw this error pop up: "Error 200500" when connecting to the airplay. The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you also have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies. -
Apple USB Modem Not Supported in Snow Leopard Running 64-bit Kernel Mode
Has anyone been able to get the Apple USB Modem to work with Snow Leopard (SL) when running SL in 64-bit kernel mode? I get an error saying hardware not supported.
I would suggest you take this question up in the MacBook Pro forum or perhaps the Snow Leopard forum. This forum is for question about older, Pre-G3 Apple hardware and so not the forum where you'll be most likely to get a quick and applicable response.

Memory limitation on 32-bit Server 2000 pltfrm
Looking for the definitive explanation of why/what is limiting the ability to allocate more than 1/2 of the available system memory to Oracle SGA & PGA. Specifically: 4GB total system RAM on a MS Server 2000 32-bit system platform. Unable to appropriate/allocate more than 1/2 (2GB) of memory to Oracle 9.2.0.4 processes - SGA & PGA. I've read some discussion that Windows appropriates certain amounts - perhaps half - of all available RAM on 32-bit systems. e.g. 2GB total RAM results in 1GB to Server 2000 system processes and 1GB available to Oracle. Is this thinking on the right track.
Need Oracle to utilze more memory. Can anyone offer or point to an explanation of this limitation..... a work around
Thanks,
-- rlFollowing an excerpt of Note 225349.1 in MetaLink
"Implementing Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) or VLM on Windows Platforms"
AWE Memory implementation on Windows 2000
A common question on the Windows NT/Windows 2000 platform revolves around
how to take advantage of systems with more than 4 GB of RAM. As discussed
in Metalink NOTE:46001.1 and NOTE:46053.1, the 32-Bit process address
space for any process on Windows equates to a total of 4GB of addressable
RAM. Of this, by default, 2GB is reserved for the process itself, and 2GB
for the kernel. On systems running either Windows 2000 Advanced Server,
or Windows NT 4.0 Enterprise Edition, this ratio can be changed by adding
the /3GB switch to the boot.ini, allowing a process to address 3GB and
reserving 1GB for the kernel. However, the total addressable memory for
a single process is still only 4GB.

No AirPlay icon on mid 2011 macbook air with a new Apple TV
Hi. I just bought a brand new Apple TV. I own a mid 2011 macbook air on which I've installed mountain lion OS X. both the apple TV and my macbook air are connected to the same wireless network, yet i dont have the AirPlay icon on my macbook. I'm able to play music from my mac's iTunes library, and even tough the homesharing on iTunes is on, I dont have the airplay icon so I can't stream movies\videos\pictures which are not in my iTunes library.
About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.
