Is Airport Extreme right for this setup?

I'm currently using a new IMac and am going to purchase a used macbook 1.83 that has the "g" wireless card.
I want to run an ethernet cable to the imac (rather then use wireless) from the Airport extreme, use wireless to connect to the macbook, as well as support a shared printer and external hard drive.
Can i do all that with the airport extreme?

+Can i do all that with the airport extreme?+
Probably. Depends on the printer. See below.
The AirPort Extreme (AEBS) has 3 ethernet ports for devices and will support up to 50 wireless connections. You will need to make sure that the AEBS is broadcasting a "g" signal or a compatible "g" signal to be able to connect.
You will need to use a powered hub to connect both a shared printer and hard drive.
Not all printers are compatible, and if you have an all-in-one device, only the printing function will be supported.
Be sure to format the external hard drive in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • Is Airport Extreme Right For Me?

I am moving into a new apartment and will be living on my own. My MacBookPro OS 10.5.1 will be the only computer on the network. i would love to be able to print wirelessly and also play my itunes through my stereo.
I am worried that my all-in-one printer (HP Deskjet F4180) will not work through the Airport Extreme. Is it really as simple as plugging in the USB cord? When I looked on HP's website for wireless printer accessories it seemed like it would cost me over $200! Would I also be able to scan through airport? If amazingly, i could print and scan wirelessly, I think I would buy it.
Also, when I activate my Comcast internet at the new apt, do I still need to buy comcast's router? Or can I just plug the ethernet into the Airport? Again, I'd love to be able to just tote my MacBookPro around my apartment and print, browse, and rock out without any cords!
    Thanks!

I have been looking at iFelix's list of compatible printers for the new and old airports and found it VERY helpful. Can anyone recommend the BEST all-in-one printer to be used over airport? I do not need to be able to scan wirelessly but I need an all-in-one available to me.
I am very pleased with my wireless Canon MP600R
I also found that my Canon i860 works with the old airport extreme. Is the new one so much better than the old one that I should try to keep looking for the right printer?
If your printer works with the old base station then it will (probably) work with the new one.
Or would my i860, internet, and airtunes work sufficiently on the old model which I could find on craigslist or so?
Remember to use AirTunes you need to use the Airport Express and not the Extreme, the Express is still available.

  • Where can i buy an airport extreme card for my powerbook

Where can I buy an airPort extreme caed for my powerbook? are they even available, if not how can I go wireless ?

eBay is a good source, though as ever, buy wisely and make sure you get the right card for your specific model.
Alternatively there are wireless cards available that go in the card slot. Again eBay is full of them but be sure they're OSX compatible -  its a good idea to put this phrase in your search terms.
I can vouch that this one works as I'm using it now:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAGEM-PCMCIA-AIRPORT-54MBPS-WIRELESS-WIFI-CARD-MAC-OS-X-/4 00124141388?pt=UK_Computing_Apple_Mac_Accessories&hash=item5d2941df4c#ht_3229wt_ 886
It just plugged straight in and was recognised as an Airport Card. This is from the UK site but I'm sure you can find the same thing wherever you live, or at that price just have it shipped.

  • Which Airport Extreme Card for 1.25Ghz 17"

I am trying to purchase an Airport Extreme card for my 1.25Ghz iMac G4 17", but I seem to be finding a lot of iBook and other random Extreme cards, so I am lost which one is compatible with mine.
I found this one that also is combined with a Bluetooth card. I would love if this is the right one or if it will even work because i hate having to use the corded mighty mouse with it.

This is the profile page for your iMac at EveryMac.com

That linked product looks like this one, which is described more accurately below, and is not for an iMac G4
    http://www.megamacs.com/item/Apple-AirPort-Extreme-and-Bluetooth-Combo-Card,-Par t--A1126/view,4073062/criteria,airport%20extreme/
This is the correct AirPort Extreme card for your iMac G4 model
    http://www.megamacs.com/item/Airport-Extreme-Card/view,3471750/criteria,airport% 20extreme/
It does not include Bluetooth. The best way to add Bluetooth, if that is important, is with a USB Bluetooth adapter. This is the one that Apple officially approves for use with Macs that do not have built-in Bluetooth.
    http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DBT-120-Wireless-Bluetooth-Adapter/dp/B00006B7DB
Since that G4 iMac has USB 2.0, you may want to consider a USB wireless adapter as well, instead of the AirPort Extreme card. Here is one, sold by OWC (a Mac-oriented vendor).
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MXP802NU2C/
It (probably) costs less, and it uses the faster 802.11.n standard (compared to 802.11g used by the AirPort Extreme card). You will have to install driver software, but that is provided with this adapter and it supports Panther (10.3.9) or later. And you don't have to open up the iMac to install it. If you get a different brand, make sure Mac OS X drivers are available for that product.
The advantage of the AirPort Extreme card is that (once installed internally) nothing appears connected on the outside, and no additional driver is needed.

  • Airport Extreme Card for Mac Pro (bought in 2006)

In or around 2006 I bought a Mac Pro (it was right when the starting coming with Intel Chips) and didn't upgrade to have it come with a Airport Extreme Card inside. A week later I ordered one, but it wasn't the right one. I have been looking online and found one, the MA688Z/B on amazon.com. I have looked at websites showing how to install this, however, I don't see the place on the motherboard where it goes. Is this the right internal Airport Extreme card for my Mac Pro from 2006 or is there a different one? Also, is the Airport Express that is external better and should I just go that route?
    Please help! Thanks!

Here's a picture of the 802.11n module installed in a Mac Pro.
It's small and fits near drive bay 2. It's not designed to be fitted by customers, so you cannot buy the card on the Apple Website. Fitting involves plugging in the card. A small brass screw - and two antenna cables, which clip onto the corners.
Unless you have tiny fingers, I'd pay to have it fitted in an Apple Store.
Warning. The Mac Pro is heavy. Do not attempt to carry it to the mall if you have a heart condition or are pregnant.

Just bought a new Airport Extreme BS. After setup my iphone4 won't find the network (not even with manual entries), but my iMac (2009) does. What is wrong?

Well, after another call with Apple support and the engineers, no success.  After spending over 20 hours trying to debug this, I give up.  Apple was basically fishing for a solution with trial-and-error settings on the iphone.  Then they wanted me to plug in software to log my iphone connections to the router, etc, etc., etc., at which point I decided I no longer wanted to participate in their testing process and will simply return the router.
25 hours of my life I'll never get back.
Big bummer, and frustrating for all the obvious reasons.

  • Airport Extreme Cards for Powerbook Ti

So, why noy make an internal airport extreme card for the Ti Powerbooks? It's not like theyre that old of a model. and if other companys can make em for external use why cant Apple do this?
Hopefully someone at Apple reads this. Ive been an avid supporter of Apple comps and its not like customers such as myself wouldnt actually buy these if they were to release them. Think about it....every titanium power book user would prolly run out and re-buy the already installed cards all over again. Makes sense to me.
    WM

It may make sense to you, Wil, but not many people nowadays are investing in hardware enhancements for their three-and-four-year-old Tibooks. And with other manufacturers producing cards that can be installed in a Tibook and moved on to the next laptop without ever opening up the Tibook, and offering (in many cases) far better wireless range than the built-in Airport antenna can offer, Apple would face tough competition for the few customers who might be interested in such a product.

  • AirPort Extreme Drivers for Windows XP???

This may be a very silly question, but I've got a new Mac Pro that will be arriving in two days and I couldn't help but wonder, "How will the AirPort Extreme WiFi card be able to connect to the Internet when I'm running Windows XP from a separate hard drive using Boot Camp?
The Internet connection in my apartment is wireless only (coming from a router upstairs in my landlord's part of the house). Are there any AirPort Extreme drivers for Windows XP? If so, I have not been able to find anything online.
Any suggestions on how to do this?
    Thanks,
    ~Greg

    Thanks for the info Stefan,
However, I don't think that the Macintosh driver CD will do me any good in this case because I am not planning on running the 32 bit version of Windows XP. I will be installing XP64 tomorrow once my CD arrives in the mail.
I've heard of quite a few people who are currently running XP64 on their Mac Pro's, but I'm also pretty sure that the driver CD created by Boot Camp will only work in Windows XP 32-bit.
If ANYONE knows of a work around for installing macintosh drivers for my super drive and airport extreme, PLEASE let me know, because I will most certainly need to be able to use my wireless card and keyboard (especially for the CD tray)
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • Purhasing an Airport Extreme especially for controlling WiFi in my house.

I am thinking about purhasing an Airport Extreme especially for controlling WiFi in my house. To protect/limit internet use of my childeren.  Not just a single guest account but perphaps 2 or 3 with different time settings is this possible?  To my opinion it would be ideal to control it via the airport because there is no need for software and via an administration account I should be able to modify the settings

Do you perhaps know of any good parenting tool / app that I can install on the Ipad mini of my childeren.
As LaPastenague says, Apple expects you to set restrictions like this on the device itself. You will select a passcode when you establish the settings that you want. Only you will be able to change the settings that you have selected.....unless you provide the passcode to someone else.
    On the iPad....
    Tap Settings
    Tap General
    Tap Restrictions
See Allow, Allowed Content, Privacy, etc.
For more information about this, you need to post in the iPad support area. The link is here:
    Using iPad
As far as allowed times, again as LaPastenague notes, Timed Access will allow you to do this for any device that connects using wireless.
For example, you could limit the use of the iPad to the hours of 3 PM to 8 PM Weekdays and 8 AM to 11 PM on Weekends.
Another device could be programmed to use the same "rules", or you could establish different "rules".
At the same time, you could specify "Unlimited" access for your own personal computer, etc.

  • I can't synchronize my iPod's with my iTunes software (Windows Vista Home Premium) due to problems with the access authorization / rights for this operation

    Hi there,
I'd like to ask you something:
I'm trying to synchronize all my iPod's (I have as many as 4 iPods: 2 iPod touch a 8 GB each and 2 iPod classic a 160 GB each) with my iTunes software (Version 11.3.1 which is installed on a Windows PC (Windows Vista Home Premium)). Unfortunately, the iTunes software refuses to run the command "synchronize with the iPod connected" regarding each and every iPod I have. iTunes just declares:
Synchronizing is impossible because I wouldn't hold the access authorization / rights for this operation.
I uploaded the songs at issue to my iTunes folder from CD's (all songs are in AAC format now).
What is this access authorization, why was something like that invented and what can I do to get it?
How do I have to proceed in detail?
    What would it cost?
I am brand new here and have never ever made a post in any support community anywhere in the world in my life. Well, and I am not excessively knowledgeable about the particular computer or mac language but I know the very basics or can find out about them.
Anyways - can you help me please?
If you can't help me, who can do so?
It would be nice if you could answer me as soon as possible!
    Thank you guys
    Prying Pedro

Yes, others have experienced the problem, a simple search of the forums would have revealed that and the simple solution.
Termporarily disable any security software on the computer.

  • Airport Extreme card for Powerbook G4 12"

I want to get an Airport Extreme card for my 12" Powerbook, however, am a little confused as to which one will work with it. I am currently running a 867Mhz PowerPC system. I have seen two part numbers for the Airport Extreme card, A1026 and A1027. I was hoping that someone might be able to clarify the correct one I need, thanks.

behappysomeday, Welcome to the discussion area!
Those cards are both the same thing. Either one will work.

Does the new Airport Extreme allow "guest network" setup across all my Airports on my network? I have 1 Airport as a router and 6 others as WAP's (bridged)

I assume that all of your WAPs are hard wired on the network.
If.....all of your WAPs are simultaneous dual band Apple AirPort devices like an AirPort Extreme or new AirPort Express.....and.....you have firmware version 7.6.3 (now 7.6.4) installed on all the AirPorts.....and.....you use AirPort Utility 6.3.1 to configure the devices......in theory.....it should work.
I don't have 6 WAPs, but I do have 3 and the network works perfectly allowing extension of both the "main" and "guest" network.

  • New Airport Extreme N wireless network setup questions (WDS, D-Link)

I have finally been able to set up my Airport Extreme N network after numerous attempts over the last few weeks. I was getting a very weak signal in front of the house where my wife's G4 is connected wireless to an old Airport card and where all the systems (XBOX 360; Wii and PS3) are also wirelessly hitting the network.
The current configuration is as follows: In the office in the back of the house I have an Airport Extreme N basestation connected to the cable modem and have three workstations (One Mac and two PCs) wired to it. I set up a WDS network, so I set up the Airport Expresses as remotes. In the living room I have another Airport Extreme N basestation (as a remote as well) that is hooking up to the XBOX 360, Wii and PS3. I have enabled WEP security (not effecting the XBOX 360 since it is now "wired"). Here is the weird thing - I have a PC laptop with a D-Link Xtreme N card ( DWA-652) that cannot connect to the network. I enter the WEP password but it does not connect. Am I missing something on the basestation setup? Do I need to add the MAC address of the card anywhere. When I use the laptop's built in wireless it connects with no problem. By creating a WDS network did I disable the n functionality of the base station(s)? I am a lttle condused.
Also, prior to going to an all Apple wireless network setup, I bought the D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655). I was regretfully about to return it to Best Buy but I had an idea which may or may not work. I know that the D-Link does not support WDS but if I was to set it up as the main router and added the "main" Airport basestation as a wired bridge could I maintain the WDS network? The reason I ask this is because I would love to keep the gigabit for the wired machines in the office. Also, I am wondering if the D-Link notebook card is incompatible with the Airport network.
All I know is that I have spent alot of money and sleepless nights just trying to set this network up but thankfully Best Buy has a thirty day return policy so I will return what I can't use.
I appreciate any help and advice anyone can give me.
    Thanks.

    Hello!
I have noticed that some manufacturers (Linksys and possibly D-LINK) only accept upper-case WEP keys only.
This drove me nuts when trying to integrate a Linksys PC PCMCIA card into my old "g" network.
As far as using WEP, it's bad and broken; but I understand that your choice of security is limited to the devices that you are trying to network.
For what it's worth, I have my network set up with the AEBS 'n' connected to my Cable Modem, with one of the ports going to a gigabit switch for my wired network. I then have two AirTunes set up as WDS extensions for music & Internet delivery to two separate areas. The AEBS 'n" serves up DHCP and routing for the entire network.
It works quite well; I get 54 mbits/sec for the two WDS AirTunes, and 145 mbits/sec to one of my ATV's. My gigabit wired machines see data rates of 15-27 MBytes/sec (depending on the type of transfer).
    Good luck!
