Is AirPort Utility Working Properly?

I have a Time Capsule (3rd gen) and also an AirPort Express. The two are linked by Ethernet cables. Prior to installing AirPort Express the AirPort Utility showed TC with a green dot. Once the APE was installed AirPort Utility either shows no TC with APE connected directly to the Internet, or else shows TC connected to Internet but with a yellow triangle, and the APE linked to the TC but with the green dot. Everything seems to work ok. Is there some problem with AirPort utility?

Ok.. there is your problem.. Apple have done it again. They introduced a new OS without clearing out a fraction of the bugs reported in the beta.. welcome to the Beta testers program.. If it is all working properly. Which I do gather is the case..
Everything seems to work ok. Is there some problem with AirPort utility?
Then ignore the Airport Utility as the great load of rubbish it is .. !!
Use the airport utility on iOS.. or even windows.. it simply is better than this.
The installer for Mavericks is working to install 5.6 utility into Yosemite.

I tried to install 6.3.1, but the installer said that it was not compatible with Yosemite. Is there a version since 5.6.1 that works with Yosemite, and, if so, where can I find it? I have looked everywhere with no luck.

Airport Utility 6.3.4 is the Yosemite version. It is installed with Yosemite.

If you are running Windows 7, you need AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows - Support - Apple
Delete the 6.x version that you downloaded, as it will not run on a PC.

Airport express working properly?

I travel a lot and carry a latest generation aiport express with me. Recently I noticed that when I connect the AE to a hotel network, and try to log on with either my Macbook Air, iPad or iPhone, the hotel network asks me to logon separately for each device (with the appropriate charge). I thought that when you connected an AE using ethernet that all the wireless devices connected to it shared a common IP address, and as far as the hotel is concerned, you only have one device connected to their network?
Is there something I'm missing here? Some setting that I didn't set up properly?

I had just updated my previously beautifully functional AE with the version 6.2 firmware update and simultaneously updated my iTunes to 4.6. Although both the firmware and software installations were successful, the new connectivity is horrible.
More info: my AE is used exclusively for AirTunes and worked well with both PC and Mac versions of iTunes up to 4.6 (OS X 10.3.9). Both Mac and PC have ample amount of memory, disk space, and compatible wifi cards and have performed well with the AE in the past.
The music will stream for a while, then stop, then stream again. I don't even get the "Rebuffering Stream" message, it just stops. Sometimes when it stops it stalls my iTunes, only when it "wakes up" I can play another song but it has to reconnect to the AE - sometimes successfully sometimes not.
I thought it may be traffic related, but this problem happens when there is absolutely no other traffic on the network - I tested that out. This also happens with all other programs closed and no other "stresses" exist on the source maching streaming the tune-age. This is repeatable on both PC and Mac machines.
I used the link above to revert to the previous version of my firmware and the same problem exists (wierd). Admittedly I hadn't done a firmware EVER before this and have had the previously functional AE for about a year.
Are there any known connectivity issues for the AE? I couldn't find anything like this in my search.
Also, I'm successfully configured as a wireless client to play AirTunes (not a repeater) with 40 bit WEP password set up (authentication is fine).
Any ideas?

Airport Utility for iOS on iPad

Although my Airport Extreme and two bridged AP Expresses are oerating properly, Airport Utility for iOS on any network connected iPads cannot locate any of the Airport devices. The same version of Airport Utility works properly on any iPhones on the network and the Mac version also works.
I've tried removing, downloading, and re-installing the utility from the iTunes App Store, but the iPads still cannot locate any of the three devices. All it can find is "Internet". I've tried on iPad 2, iPad Mini, iPad Mini 3 and none of them can see the Airport devices. On the other hand, I've tried the utility on iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 6 (all iOS devices running iOS 8.2), and the iPhones can all see the Airport devices
The symptoms are pretty consistent and reproducible. In the past 4 to 6 months, Airport Utiity did work properly on iPad. I'm not certain which version of the app and iOS were current when it worked, because I don't frequently use the app, unless I have network revisions done on my Mac and need to check results later. Tonight, I did use it because I have a malfunctioning IP camera. I scanned the network with a third party network scanner/sniffer on iPad and it confirms that the network is intact.
Basically, it's not iPad specifically, but it appears to be the Airport Utility running on iPad only, that has a problem locating the Airport devices. It seems to be a bug in the Airport Utility for iOS, as used with iPad. Has anyone else observed this?

I have never seen it either.. I have no problem with the ipad to discover any airports in my network.. and there are loads of them.. nor seen people reporting it as an issue.. but you have sure got something interesting happening.. what version Extreme is it?? Do you have something unusual in the setup?
If you are really brave or foolhardy.. save the existing setup.. and reset the main extreme to factory and redo the setup from the ipad.. I am pretty sure it will work as long as it gets first bite at the apple. (no pun intended).
Keep all names short, no spaces and pure alphanumerics.. same for passwords but can be longer.. ie names <10 is good.. passwords 8-20 characters. Mixed case and numbers.
I do notice that Airport Utility in ipad does behave differently (only slightly but it is there) cf the iphone. Some functions are missing in the phone version.. so I guess with the bigger screen the utility adjusts to how it works.

AirPort Utility can't find Netgear router OR new AirPort Express

I couldn't find my situation fully addressed in older posts, so I'm posting one myself.
I am trying to EXTEND my current network with a newly purchased AirPort Express. My equipment is as follows:
Comcast modem connected via ethernet cable to...
Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 dual-band router
One three-year-old Mac Mini running Lion
One newer MacBook Pro running Mavericks
Two iPhone 4S, latest software updated as of Nov. 2014
Two-year-old iPad, latest software updated as of Nov. 2014
Newly purchased AirPort Express as of Nov. 2014
We have a large house with an office at the extreme end resulting in a week signal, so I need to extend my network. The Netgear router sends a strong signal otherwise, and ALL devices are working properly and are fully connected to the WIFI network.
So here is the problem:
I've tried many, many times to connect the APE using AP Utility with only two successful connections, but these connections were to "Join Existing Network" not to extend that network, but I selected this option as it seemed closest to what I want to do since "extension" of network was not an option. Then I see that I can edit the APE within AP Utility. I've done so, resetting the unit as a network extender, and the two times I tried this I sat waiting for five minutes for the thing to update only to get an error message. At this junction I could do nothing but remove the APE in AP Utility by "forgetting" it. No other options were available that I could see.
Now, the two times I've done the above, were two times within 20+ attempts to get AirPort Utility to even see the darn thing. I've tried placing the APE near the Netgear router, moderately close (other side of room) and even at the far end of the house, and neither the APE or the Netgear router were ever found in the AP Utility save the two incidences mentioned above. I've scoured the net, rechecked all connections and performed all troubleshooting procedures I can find to no avail. All I get is a flashing amber light and no connection
A: Why won't AirPort Utility find my Netgear Router?
B: Why won't AirPort utility find my AirPort Express?
C: Why, on the two occasions the AP Utility did find the APE, did it not give me the option anywhere to set it up as an EXTENDER to the current network?
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility? (I do have the Negear Genie app, but I don't see options for adding a device for network extension so far)
I'm at wits end. Can anyone help?
Oh, and I've tried using AP Utility on both Macs listed above with the same results.

AirPort Utility works only with an Apple router, as does the utility for a Netgear work only with a Netgear router.

Any of 3-4 common reasons. We'll have to work on troubleshooting that.

Apple designed the wireless "extend" feature on their routers to only work with other Apple routers.
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility?
No
Not sure how you want to proceed at this point. It might be possible to use the AirPort Express to extend the Netgear network if you connect it using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection back to the Netgear router.
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, your best bet by far is to use another Netgear extender or repeater, which would likely be compatible with your Netgear router.

Does Airport express work with Mac os X.2.8?

Yes you should be able to access the wireless network created by the AirPort Express regardless of which version of the Mac OS you are using.

Airport Utility and Windows Vista 64 Bit

* I located the IP address and admin password of the airport extreme and was able to log into to the (File / configure other) airport extreme.
I believe it's a W7 bonjour issue.
As you can see in my attachments, Bonjour is installed however msconfig running services show it as stopped. I can't get it to start.

What version extreme are you talking about? Actual model A1xxx from the base is a big help.

Open a command window and type ping 10.0.1.1 (or whatever is the current IP of the extreme).

Please turn off all firewalls.

Make sure the win7 is not in homegroup.

Although pondini has instructions in the C12 troubleshooting to load 5.6 utility.. I discovered a free utility to do it.
Is very easy.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
1. Download 5.6 for Lion.

Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
2. Download and install unpkg.

Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool
Archive is a very poor way to backup.. just so you realise it is very slow.. it backs up the entire TC internal drive.. and the TC drive is blocked for the whole time.. it cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. Next time you want to do it.. it will backup the entire disk again.. no incremental .. no rsync. .no useful way to use it as an automated backup of data. TC shows its primary function as destination for TM and any other use Apple themselves seem to be promoting is extraordinarily unwise.

Airport Utility and OpenDNS???

Hi:
We just installed OpenDNS to help manage internet access at home for our children.
However, Airport Utility no longer works. Version is 6.3.4. Specifically, the globe internet icon appears, and the word "Internet" below it has a green dot to the left of it, but the spinning clock face below this never goes away. The Airport device never shows up like it used to.
We are running Yosemite 10.10.1.
I'm clueless about internet stuff and connectivity, but Airport Utility worked last time I tried it a month ago. Could the OpenDNS install have done something to mess this up?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

PS: We are not able to log into iCloud after installing OpenDNS, so I had to go into the exceptions list and allow access to iCloud and that fixed the problem. Is there another site that "Airport Utility" is trying to access that OpenDNS is blocking? If so, what is the name of this site so that I may unblock it? Thank you!
