Is american iPhone 3gs sim locked?

If I buy an iPhone 3gs in US i will can use it in Italy whit Omnitel?
Thank's

The iPhone is sold in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T only. Activation with AT&T and signing a two year contract is required at the store when the iPhone is purchased.
Support and warranty coverage is honored in the country where the iPhone was sold only.
The iPhone is sold by Apple in Italy, so you should purchase an iPhone there where you will have support and waranry coverage.

  • My iphone 3gs is locked and after paying it is unlock, but not showing network

My iphone 3gs is locked and after paying it is unlock from vodafone UK, but showing no service and searching network. Also after connecting itunes follwing message reflects
There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate.
Please disconnect and insert a SIM card in the iPhone.

Did you get an email from vodafone confirming that the phone is unlocked? Did you put a SIM card in the phone? Did you complete the unlock process as detailed in the email? Did you restore your phone as new?

HELP. My iPhone 3GS passcode lock and forgot the passcode. How to get back?

The only reason you use bluetooth between iPad/iPhone its to share the internet from iPhone to wifi only iPad.
In order to see the bluetooth connection, you must first enable the Personal Hotspot on the iPhone.
Then on the iPhone, open Setting s> Bluetooth.
Then open the Bluetooth on the iPad adn pair teh devices.

  • Is iPhone 3GS SIM card activation mandatory?

    I have several scenarios.
First: If I'm currently an iPhone 1st Generation user, can I use the old SIM card to use iPhone 3GS?
Second: If I'm currently an iPhone 3G user, can I use the old SIM card to use the iPhone 3GS?
Third: If I'm using the iPhone 3GS SIM card, can I use it on other phones to make calls and go online? For example iPhone 3G, iPhone 1st Generation, or any AT&T branded phones, and finally unlocked phones?
    Thanks in advance!

As long as your existing SIM is a 3G(network) SIM as the SIM cards were in the U.K, you can insert your current SIM into your 3G S, connect to iTunes, iPhone will display a message "iPhone is activated", follow the registration process through iTunes (if you wish to) then choose to set up as a new iPhone or a backup.
Let iTunes do its thing and you have a fully working iPhone 3G S.
That's what I did with my original iPhone to iPhone 3G and having bought an unsubsidized 3G S from O2 I'm still using my original SIM. It's running perfectly. MMS works, Find my iPhone works, it's fantastic. Love the rotating maps :o) roll on TomTom release!
iPhone is available in many countries, so I don't know if all carriers' SIM cards are the same as the SIM cards provided by the U.K carrier (O2).
    Hope this helps

  • IPhone 3GS Sim is apparently 'locked' giving 'no service'....

I have a iPhone 3GS, and as it has the feature to lock sime it prevents any service if not putting the pin in. After putting the correct pin in the service works and is fine, however a few minutes later it goes back to no service and then you have to turn phone on and off again and restart the process. Even if I take the SIM lock feature away, this makes it worse as it just goes 'no service' as if the sim was still locked.
Is there a way to prevent all this drama?

I have a simalar problem. On the 3rd day I have the 3Gs the phone was "SIM LOCKED". Just before this happened I turned off WIFI because at home I am out of range of 3G. At work I am in range. The phones SIM locked up and gave me the option to put in a new sim #. I went to my ATT store and "HE" came close to accusing me of trying to change my sim #. I have no knowlege of how to do this or why to do it! He put in a new # to unlock the sim and handed me the phone to put in a passcode #. It worked fine untill the next morning. I plugged the charger in and the same problem>>Sim lock! I clicked on "UNLOCK" and it asked for a passcode, I put in the number I had put in at the store and it unlocked. Ok now I powered the phone off an turned it back on and again the Sim is locked now it says I have 3 attempts remaining to enter pin. Next I powered off again and powered on and this time it gave me 3 attempts again so I guess the only problem is to enter my code every day. Does anyone know is this a security feature or just a feature I can turn off if I chose?

  • How do you determine what your iPhone 3GS is locked to?

I have an iPhone 3gs and I don't want to unlock it or jailbreak it.  How do I figure how which carrier it is locked to?  I know it's locked to a Canadian cell phone company and I tried Fido, Telus, Bell and Rogers (all friends SIMs) without hooking up to iTunes because it gave me the ability to activiate wirelessly through WiFi.  But none of these SIM cards worked.
Any ideas of how I can figure out what it's locked to or how I can activiate it without having to try every SIM card under the sun?

No offence to you Julian - but if I could go back to the original retailer / seller and ask them the question, I wouldn't be posting it here .
I bought the phone from someone who had it software unlocked / jailbroken a long time ago and I just updated the phone.  I don't want to unlock it or jailbreak it, I just want to know how to activate it with the original carrier.
I just need to figure out if there is a way to determine who that carrier is...

  • Is my iPhone 3GS network locked?

I have an iPhone 3GS which was supplied by Vodafone UK. I haven't used it for ages, but recently decided to update it to iOS5, and then put an O2 sim in it.
The iPhone has just had a 'Restore' done in iTunes. When I turn it on (with the O2 sim in it) it asks which language to use etc., and then attempts to Activate over my wireless connection. This message is then displayed:
If I try to activate it in iTunes, a similar message appears: 'The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.'
My question: does this message means that the iPhone is networked locked to Vodafone, or does it mean something else?

i have done this before and its easy to sort for free if the phone is over 0ne year old put the vodafone sim back in and ring voda cus services the will unlock it with in 48 hours then you should be fine . i have posted on google sites the name of my info is dannydecade

  • IPhone 3GS Sim reader faulty

I am experienceing some problems with my iphone 3GS.
The sim reader failed to read most of the time. With some luck it reads.
But when I restart the phone the sim failed to detect any signal.
    Anyone know why?

For me "illegitimate" sounds very much like "illegal"
It may very well have been illegal. You have no way of knowing. How did a US AT&T locked phone wind up there in the first place? It may have been legitimately sold by the original purchaser. It may also have been one of thousands of phones stolen in targeted robberies of Apple Stores and one hijacking of a truck carrying them.
Illegitimate, though, does not mean illegal and it was not intended to mean illegal. It was intended to mean 'an unauthorized' source. Gray market.

  • IPhone 3GS SIM card problems

Hello. I have an iPhone 3GS and I was using iOS 5.0.1 prior the upgrade to 5.1.1. Immediately after upgrading to the latest version my iPhone couldn't find any network and shortly after it displayed "Invalid SIM card". I tried to turn it off and then back on but it didn't help. Then I tried to restore the phone with the help of itunes. After doing so i had to set my phone from the beginning to chose the language to chose the country the wifi conection etc. and at last i hoped it would activate. But it displayed me this:
"Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier's store to recive a replacement SIM card."
And that's it i can't use this phone anymore not even as a music player or for net browsing. I tried again to connect to itunes in hope it had some kind of restore solution but it didn't. It even displayed this:
"The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier's store to recive a replacement SIM card."
When i got the iPhone it didn't come with a SIM card. And I used my old SIM card that i was using, and it was working fine until this upgrade.
Is there a way to fix this problem? Can i downgrade it somehow? Will I be able to upgrade it with the next iOS version in hope it will have this bug fix?
    Please help

Your phone was hacked to be used with your carrier.  Upgrading the iOS has rightfully re-locked your phone to the original carrier.  You cannot use your phone for anything until you activate it.  That means having a SIM card in place from the original locked carrier.  No way around this, nor is there any way to downgrade your iOS version.

  • HT4061 iphone 3GS screen locked, slide bar does not work

Iphone 3GS. The slide bar does not work, ie the screen lock does not unlock. I have tried to reset (power and home buttons) and also to restore my iphone several times using iTunes without any success. Any suggestions? My son uses the phone now for games, so it has no carrier.

A reset can be done by tapping and holding the Home button and the Sleep/On/Off buttons at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears.

  • Iphone 3GS - Sim wont activate

So i recently bought a Iphone 3GS off someone, they reset it all before they gave it to me, when i got it home i plugged it in to set it up etcetc.
I got to the part where i have to choose a language/country/location services/ and then wifi networks, once im connected with wifi,
it comes up with a new screen
''Activating your Iphone - It may take up to three minutes to activate your iPhone''
after a while of waiting it comes up with
''Could not activate iPhone - Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is termpoarily unavailable, Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a few mintutes''
I tried again and again and again, no luck, so then tried with itunes, nothing happened.. Besides it telling me that there was no sim card in the phone.
Also in the top left of the iphone it says no service..
    please help!

I have had this exact problem, with the very same error messages - been trying yesterday and today to resolve it. The only difference is that I haven't bought my iphone 3GS recently- i've had it for 18months and it is only after I updated my software that this all happened. Spoke to Apple and all they have suggested is that I restore it to the original settings again (which I have just done) and still no joy. I have the same error message ''Could not activate iPhone - Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is termpoarily unavailable, Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a few mintutes'' and my itunes is still saying there is no sim in the phone. I have tried the sim in other phones and it works absolutely fine.
    Someone please help!

  • Apple iPhone 3GS SIM area Inside broke and wont accept SIM

Hi there.. I havnt been able to use my iphone for a while now due to me breaking it. I put an iPhone 4's micro sim into an adapter that made the SIM into normal size, and then inserted into my iPhone 3GS.. It got stuck so i kinda had to yank it out.. Then when i tried to put a normal SIM card in the phone it wouldn't work! So basically i think i broke it! The SIM card wont even fit in the phone properly of pop in or out using the tool.. I think i've broke something inside the phone!
I am so upset because the phone cost me a lot of money.. It is not under warranty or any kind of cover any more, and i went to an apple store, i didnt explain the problem fully but the man estimated £160 for the phone fixing? I was wondering if anyone has been in the same situation and what they did to resolve it preferably without paying £160!? Thanks

Impossible to know the exact damage to the SIM Bay area that has occured. The most common damage inflicted to this area is due to the SIM tray being forced in upside down, resulting most commonly in bending or breaking one or more of the six thin copper wire contacts which read the SIM card. Maybe if you have this type of damage, the six contacts could be checked and carefully bent back into place. They are very fragile and can break off from the base quite easily however. If one or more is already broken off, then the SIM Card Junctor (contains the six contacts) could be replaced, this is an easy solder job for someone skilled at basic soldering. The SIM Card Junctor is very cheap costing 2 - 3 dollars for the part. If someone decides to open the 3GS, make sure it is OFF before opening and kept OFF during any repair, or your risk damaging the LCD display, Logic Board or Both.
