  • Any one here had success with sync of iPad to their Aluminum?

Have seen issues with USB external drives not getting enough power via the PB USB port - what about the iPad?
Also the iPad needs you to have 10.5.8 - can any one comment on the PB speed with 10.5.8 compared to 10.4?

"As for the iPad; I can only speculate, but an iPad is really just a large iPod touch, so I see no reason why it wouldn't sync with a G4 PB."
The Pad has higher voltage requirements than the Pod - hence they use different power adapters (although users report the Pad power works with the Pod but not vice versa).
Thanks for the OS performance input!

  • Any one else having trouble with IOS 7.1 update?

Since I have installed the new update my phone has been very slow.. The internet is slow I get kicked off my apps and my phone use isn't the way it was with the last update. This update was supposed to be better but I think the last update was far better than this one. Anyone else agree? Or how can I get the last update back?

You can't get the old level back. iOS 7.1.1 is not slow on my iPhone 5. You will have to do some troubleshooting to find the cause of your trouble.
Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

See if Deltagraph is still around.  We used to use that for plotting scientific data on Macs.  I don't know if it is at all transferrable with Sigmaplot if you have a colleague who uses it, but if you're doing this on your own I would look at getting DG vs, doing a dual boot  etc.

  • Does any one here know about "Elink"

    Dear all,
We are using WebLogic. We have a requirement to turn SQL based structures
    into XML messages.
In essence we have to build up an XML doc representing something like (say)
a PO (Purchase Order) which itself has PO lines etc.etc such that you might
    have a doc such as
    **PO**
    PO_UID
    Field
    Field
    Field
    etc.
    / **PO LINE**
    POL_UID
    Field
    Field
    Field
    etc
This needs to be produced on a given event from some SQL tables (held in
Oracle @ the mo) e.g. the PO table & the PO Lines table.
A bit like an MS Access "query" or ADO much as in:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?URL=/library/dotnet/cpguide/cp
    conxmldatadocumentandthedataset.htm
i.e a structured document possibly many levels deep needs to be produced. We
looked @ Oracle AQ'es XML handling & apparantly it will only go 2 levels
    deep.
As a result I have been refered to BEA's "Elink" product
    http://www.beasys.com/products/elink/index.shtml
Will this do what I want (i.e. allow for the production of "deep" XML
Documents from an exisiting set of SQL table structures).
Has any one here used elink? Has anyone got any views? I am having to find a
solution fairly fast so candour is appreciated.
    Adam

I think you were refered to ELink because of its DIO add-on, which is an OEMed version
of Mercator. Mercator is a very powerful data mapping/translation tool, in the same
family as NEON, Sterling Commerce (don't know the actual product names off the top
of my head), among others. If all you need is to map one data structure to another,
I'd skip ELink, which is really an EAI/Middleware architecture built on Tuxedo, and
look into the stand alone data integration products mentioned above.

I know that XML is supported as an FML buffer type in V7 of Tuxedo (or
ELink), but you might want to consider WebLogic instead of ELink. WebLogic
gives you the ability to parse the XML with a built-in parser, or you can
use your own. I'm not sure about parsing XML in ELink. Also, to use Java
with ELink, you'll need the Jolt product as well.

  • Can any one recommend a good mixer/control surface for Soundtrack pro?

    Hey,
Can any one recommend a good mixer/control surface for Soundtrack pro? I was looking at the Mackie Universal Pro, does anyone have any experience with that or any others?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Gus

I have to put in another vote for OWC and against ANYTHING else. I bought a Western Digital MyBook Studio Mac Edition several years ago and it did not play well with my old G-series minitower nor the Intel iMac that replaced it last year. The drive was noisy, would cause sleep issues, lock up, overheat and, when allegedly working, dragged down performance.
I had to leave it turned off most of the time and do TM backups when I remembered--not good.
Recently I grew sufficiently browned off at the device to rip out the perfectly good WD SATA drive inside it and order an OWC Mercury Elite Pro enclosure with FireWire 800, USB 2 and eSATA ports. The old drive required only minutes to install in the OWC and has behaved perfectly since. No lockups, overheating, and the same drive is actually quieter in the new enclosure than the old.
WD makes fine hard drives but their enclosures are not very friendly, even those sold as "Mac Editions."
EDIT: forgot one point. If you have a desktop Mac, don't get a "mobile" or "portable" drive that has no source of power other than the computer. If you MUST use USB, it's possible to have dropouts if the USB bus gets overwhelmed while the drive is connected. Go with a desktop dirve with a separate power supply if you can. If you must go with a USB portable drive lacking its own power supply, also buy a powered USB hub. That usualy provides portable drives with enough power to stay with the program when used at home.

ok, step 1. invest massive amounts of time in learning. write code. a lot. if it doesn't work, which it won't, find out why
step 2. work out at least a vague career plan. do you really want to be a programmer? I mean really? you might be enjoying yourself cutting a bit of code at home, but it's an entirely different game programming commercially. chances are you'll be working on and maintaining other peoples code a lot of the time, and unlike coding at home, you'll have actual real deadlines that actually really matter, and you'll actually really not enjoy missing a deadline very much at all. you won't be just writing code you want to write, more often than not somebody else will give you a set of requirements to implement, and if you're lucky you'll get a say in what they are. of course, you won't be working alone, so you'll have other people waiting for you to finish what you're working on, or you'll be held up waiting for somebody else to finish what they're working on, neither are attractive prospects. and the damn thing has to work, so you'll have hours of endless fun testing it, being told you got it wrong, having to re-do stuff and suchlike. you'll estimate that something will take you, say, 16 hours to write, and then halfway through those 16 hours you'll realize you're miles from the finish because sockets don't quite behave as you first thought they did, or actually, that widget isn't particularly reliable after all. so you've got 8 hours left to do 15 hours work, plus undoing all the wasted effort so far. if you're really unlucky, you'll have just tons of ceremony to follow, especially if you land a "cushy" public sector job, only to be told that, yes, they still use and follow SSADM, so goodbye getting any work done, hello tons of paperwork and rigmarole
then you find that, oops, I did quite well at coding back at uni, but now it's the real world, and, well, all those OO skills I thought I'd gained are actually pretty much valueless, so it's down to the bookstore to spend a fortune, and lots of late night catch-up sessions, because the world doesn't stand still, and in particular software development doesn't stand still, so it's either a constant struggle to keep up with the tide of new information - you want to be marketable, don't you? - or you find some dead-end job nailing new functionality onto the sides of ancient legacy systems written on an Atari ST 15 years ago, only they were only ever designed to do one thing well, and with every new module shoehorned into it you can actually hear it groan and creak and you just know you're doing a terrible job, professionally speaking, and nothing to be proud of at all but it pays the bills. until you get bored and want to leave, only to find that - yep, you've guessed it - your skills are murderously out of date, knowing Java isn't enough any more, there's J2EE to contend with, and you don't want to learn about EJB cos they're so horrible, but everyone still wants you to have the skill, or they think they do, as well as JSP and Servlets, and oh have you ever deployed this on Linux or HP-UX? and the frameworks. oh! the frameworks! every damn company you look at working for has a totally different set of tools they use, and although it's technically all just SQL they'd prefer if you'd used Oracle, or SQL Server, or DB2. what? what's object-relational-mapping, you cry! so it's back to the bookstore again, more late night sessions. or maybe you choose a professionally run training course, only that turns out to be run by some other guy who didn't really know what he was doing, and decided "yes! training! that's where the money is!" and is basically re-hashing some exercises out of Connolly-Begg or something, and is basically a months salary down the drain. by this time you might be thinking "well, this isn't at all what I thought it would be", but it's too late now, you're a coder and there's no denying it. you think about looking at other areas, but that means either a huge pay cut, or more re-training. and all you wanted to do was write code for a living - it can't be that hard, you enjoy it at home right?
liking coding for fun and doing it for a living are a world apart. the absolute minimum requirement before even considering it is to have the ability to solve problems without other peoples help. well? what are you waiting for??

  • Does any one else have issues with Safari 5.0.6 and memory usage and bug reports?

    Hey Everyone
I have an iMac 7,1 desktop and for year it had gotten me through a lot. I have noticed in the past year My iMac has been slower than usual and I have doen what I can to speed it up. The main issue is Safari 5.0.6 becuase it's using 50% of my memory(4gb) and now it doesn't report any bugs to apple.
Can any one help explain this?

Flash has nothing to do with your download speed nor wireless.  It's just a Internet plug-in (and preference pane).  You are using an old version. Flash's current "stable" version is 11.1.102.55 and beta 11.2.202.197.  You can get the stable version from Adobe by going through here.  You can get that or the beta by going through macupdate.com.

  • Is any one else having issues with iMessages since iOS7?

Since iOS7 I have been having issues with iMessages. They just stop sending and I have to re-start my iPhone or iPad to get these working again. This is happening to my friends as well on different networks but all on iOS7.
Is any one else having this issue?

They had the same issue with ios 4 when it came out and it was resolved with 4.0.1. Before I start the endless visits to noisy Apple stores, I'm hoping they will issue a fix for this and all the other bugs that are popping up.
Hopefully if enough people bring it up it'll get noticed.
