I like Windows Explorer Image view .. you just open one file and left and right will scroll though .. can do it in full screen too.
I try a Photo+ and everything is ok, but again must select all pictures or folder to open many photos. I click to one photo in folder, Photo+ open only clicked photos

While no one may be bothering to write exploits in PPC code any longer, at least for Flash, that doesn't mean that there aren't any still floating around. The following doesn't specifically mention PPC/Intel, but that doesn't mean there weren't critical vulnerabilities being exploited for PPC in 10.1.102.64. I wouldn't want to take the chance.

Plugins have special access to the system. The best word processor is Mellel. TextEdit, Nisus Writer, and Open/Libre/NeoOffice should also work OK.
MS Word for Mac does not do Arabic, but I am not sure about Excel and PowerPoint. If not, OpenOffice would be the only option.
iWork has bugs that probably make it unsuitable for RTL for most people.

Depend of the choosing method.
Depend if you move database, or if you stay on same server box.
Depend of processor you have.
In fact, the size of database is not directly implied during upgrade, that would be more regarding number of objects.
If I said you one hour, that won't be a big help. Manual upgrade may be very quick, but estimate time is not an easy task. Test on your test server and estimate for your production.

What's the best freeware image editor for Mac OS X 10.5.5?

I noticed Mac OS X 10.5.5 doesn't come with an image editor (mainly for photographs) like Microsoft Windows' simple MS Paint (and free Irfanview to download and use). Are there similiar ones for Mac OS X? I was going to get Paint.net, but it has no Mac support. Gimp is nice but too complex and bloated. And yes, I did a Google search but got too many hits.

Best Anti-Virus for Mac.

My new MacBook Pro is getting delievered soon, I want a few opinions on what the best Anti-Virus for it will be. I know that Macs are more secure than Windows, but I still want to have an Anti-Virus on it as I've already had a virus on my current Mac. I have been using Trend Micro on my Mac as I got it free from a rep in my old job. I'm wondering if in the kast year that I've not been working with computers and Macs, has there been a better Anti-Virus made for them? I'd like one that also covers identity theft etc. A few answers would be good for this.... Thanks :-)

This is a very contentious issue, that you will always get different points of view.
IMO, antivirus software is not essential at this stage, however, this does not mean that you should blindly 'surf the net' without a care in the world.
The most recent exploit attempts have used flaws in Java, so the first thing I do is not use Java. Apple does not install it by default, so if you have a new install, then you won't have Java installed, so you cannot be effected by this these types of exploits.
If you do have Java installed, then make sure you have the latest updates from Apple installed, as they introduced features to protect you from these exploits, but also turn off Java if you have not used it after some time.
Java is not used much these days in Web sites, so unless you need it specifically for a site you visit, you probably don't even need it on you Mac at all.
Another recent flash exploit used a default setting in Safari to bypass OSX security settings, this being 'Open "Safe" files after downloading'. Go to Safari > Preferences > General and untick the setting at the bottom of the window, so this exploit cannot be utilised on your Mac.
With Flash, only download it from the Adobe website, and if you get notified by a site that you need an update, I personally go to Adode's web site myself and download updates manually
Other tools you can use to make you Web safer, is to install to extensions to Safari, which are quite good.
WOT - Web of Trust. This is a safety rating of a website to indicate if they are trustworthy or not, Green has been rated as safe, Red not. It is not perfect, but at least gives you an idea if the site is safe or not. As a rule, I don't go to Red sites.
Click to Flash - This prevents Flash from automatically running on sites, and you need to actually click on it on the page to download the Flash. This has two effects, it doesn't load anoying flash onto sites, unless you want it and two, if there are any exploits out there using flash, they can't automatically load.
Ad-Block - Blocks many anoying web ads, if you don't like them.

If you feel you want an Anti-virus application, ClamAV sounds like it is good and it's free without over resoursing your Mac. Remember though, that any AV application is only as good as its database, so if something new comes out it may not protect you anyway. From what I read, many of the AV apps only protect you from Windows viruses anyway, which don't effect Macs in the first place, so seem quite redundant to me.
Also in the background, Apple have a Blacklist of known issues, which they can update to you automatically when new threats are found. If you attempt to install something from one of these, you are notified by a promenent Red message warning you of the issue, allowing you to abort the installation, before it become an issue.
Your biggest AV is you, don't install applications your not sure about. One good thing about the OS, is that to install any app, you need to give your password. If you are not trying to install something at the time, don't give your password over and the app cannot install and cause you any harm.
Don't install MacKeeper if you come across it, its not what it appears, has no ethics and is basically unnecessary.
One thing I also do is use 2 web browsers. I use Safari for my normal everyday browing, and I use FireFox for secure sites such as Banking etc. Firefox I have set to record no history, passwords etc, so there is no record on my computer of this type of information for anyone to access. This protection is more if anyone get physical access to my computer, which in my world, that is entirely possible.

Hello,
I recently embeded an mpeg video, flv, mp4, and swf video file to my web page. I then asked several pc users to go to my page and see if they could view the animation clips. They were were able to view all clips, but the mpeg and flv clips automatically downloaded to their computer. I don't want that to happen. The mp4 did not download, and it worked as well.
How do I stop this from happening? I ask becuase it seems flv is used by mac and pc users alike, and I think I may use said format.
What is the most widely used video format by both mac and pc users?
... should I just stick with mp4 since it worked without down loading?

Colin has pointed you in the correct direction.
I'll bet you're using just plain text "links" to your files. That method by-passes the browser plug-in and can cause issues (especially on Windows).
You need solid html code that gives the browser plug-in all of the needed instructions.
Another thing that may have happened is that your fast start files have lost their fast start abilities. This happens with any fast start file that is then edited and uses a regular "save". Save As will restore the fast start feature (even in files that do not normally have it).
AVI is dead. Do not use it.
Many WMP formats (codecs) are not yet ported to the Mac OS so that delivery container should also be ruled out.
H.264 Video codec (default in most Tiger app exports) also requires the viewing machine (Mac or PC) have QuickTime version 7 installed.
Since not all machines can install QT version 7 (requires 10.3.9 or Win 2000 or XP) maybe you should rule it out, too.
So.
What are we left with?
Maybe QuickTime format using MPEG-4 Video codec and AAC audio?
They would only require QuickTime version 6 be installed. Since version 6 has been around for over 5 years it may be your best option.
But you're still going to get complaints from PC viewers.

Photo Viewer for Mac

Is there an equivalent of Windows photo viewer for the mac? I don't want to edit images in it, I just want to view in full screen and to go forward and back thought the images, with simple options to 'view at 100%' 'flip left/right', 'enlarge' etc. This is not big difficult stuff right?
I've played with iphoto and dislike it enough to delete it, you can download free apps better than iphoto. I've tried both preview and quick look but don't like them at all. If I select an image it always opens in 'preview' but the 'previous/next icons are always blacked out? Why?
If I use 'quick look' I can move forward/back using the keyboard but it never opens full screen, it always opens to the 'fit screen size' and then really irritatingly jumps about in size all over the place depending on the next image size. It's ok if I drag it to full screen, after which it acts pretty much like windows viewer except there are no options to open an image in an editing app, view at 100%, enlarge, flip left/right etc.
In short it's a poor viewer, I guess that's why it's called quick view uh? Is there some amazing mac facility that I'm missing here. I could just about live with 'quick look' if it always opened full screen but can't see any way to do this.

Preview IS the Apple version of Windows Viewer and its more powerful opening PDF, editing , JPEG, TIFF and other formats.it will even do audio !
Oh and clearly you don't get iPhoto it is a viewer light editor and photo image database. Again far more powerful than Windows Viewer.

Quick view is effectively a built in PDF/inline viewer tool within the finder than allows just about any document to be viewed irrespective of format.Probably nearest to what Windows Viewer actually does
It has no editing tools and that not its function.
To open it full screen you hold the ALT key whilst clicking the document in finder
You DO have the opton to open in a specific app at the top of a Quickview window by default it usually says Open Preview however just right click and a list of all potential applications are then listed. You then choose the one you want.
When you select an image from the finder to open in Preview that's exactly what it does- Opens that specific image. IT does NOT load the entire folder because its a separate application - NOT part of finder !
Again you need to work through iPhoto its really has more going for it than you think and no there really aren't better FREE apps out there.
Oh and why the need for full screen viewing - THAT really is a windows hang out. MAC OS is designed such that windows open to the maximum size to display content rather than a locked full screen model by default.
That said if you look in to top right of the window bars click those two divergent arrows you go full screen.
Sorry to say you really have to change your work flow else you may just have to go back to Windows .
As for alternative image viewer depends how much you want to spend and from the sounds of it nothing !

This is a bash on Quicken reply. I have struggled with Quicken (currently Q07) for many, many years (back into the 90's). I counted 13 different sets of Quicken datasets which have been left hanging on my various hard drives over these years as I found out through different support calls that I would have to discard a corrupted database and start over.
Last year, I was told by Quicken support during a call I paid for that I had too many accounts and the database was too large. (This has been a common tech support comment for me) I've only tried to use Quicken for personal finance tracking, no securities tracking and the heavier features (thank goodness). The call ended with an all too familiar bottom line which was that the backups were all bad so they didn't help. The support person couldn't figure out how I could utlize the backup data so in the end, I re-entered the previous year so that I could get my taxes done and search for another program. I've researched enough to know I was lucky to not move to Quicken Express as was once advised. Apparently that software doesn't allow an export in the event you would find a different software.
The good news is that I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. As you may know, Quicken in any version does not work with this OS. I've finally found a perfect reason staring me in the face to never struggle to use Quicken again. Now to find a better option. Money has many features that seem like what I need for handling 5 or 6 bank accounts and credit cards. Has anyone experienced SEE software? It too seems to have decent features.

Iphoto photo import - best image type for max resolution (jpg vs tiff)

What is the recommended image type for maximum resolution of photos brought into iphoto albums, since I will be enlarging them? (ie assuming everything brought into iphoto is set/reduced to a standard resolution, then jpg might allow more digital data for later enlargement; on the other hand tiff is often recommended for best resolution though it requires more space). Thanks, Terence - OK, lets assume I shoot a 5-meg photo of a painting and adjust the paralax etc in photoshop so it is perfectly set inside the rectangular format. Now I want to import it into iphoto, knowing that I will use the crop tool to make two blow-up enlargements to go along with the original full-size image... total 3 related images of the artwork. As you mentioned these will eventually go into iweb as part of a series inside an album, with a hyperlink connecting the two enlargements to the full-size image... so viewers can tap to see finer detail and then go back to the overall composition. My question is, for the original photo image of the painting should I drag a 10-meg tiff into iphoto or a 2-meg jpg? (I do not know what importing the image into iphoto does to the original in terms of final image resolution and data size... Will a 2-meg jpg provide sufficient data to work with and enlarge via the cropping, or would the 10-meg tiff be better as a starting point? Or, if everything gets translated into a certain pre-ordained size anyway, would the tiff get watered down to, say, a 2-meg-size image anyway?) Thanks, - D
