Is Anyone Else Buried in Chinese Spam

Every few minutes for the last 2 days I've been getting an email lebeled "printing project" from a Chinese firm selling printing services. Hundreds per day. It feels like a virus. They do go to my Junk folder, but they are clogging up my mailbox. I've sent most of them to spam.me but, so far, nothing has changed. I do subscribe to mobile me and, otherwise, the "Junk" system is working for me. Is there any way to block these emails from reaching my mac mail?

I think some of those things run in spurts.
Is it all coming from the same domain, or is it random email addresses?
Most email providers can blacklist a domain if it is sending out spam, but if it is just coming from the multitude of Windows SpamBots, then there isn't much you can do besides what you've already tried.
Does MobileMe have a server-side anti-spam service where you can have the server flag the email and not push it to you?

  • Anyone else with tons of SPAM?

I just upgraded to the new mail application and I have been hit with a ridiculous amount of SPAM on a daily basis. Up to 50 emails of garbage a day!
Does anyone know why this would happen? How do I stop it?
    Thanks!

I'm getting more spam than I used to but it's happening across all the email services and not just .Mac. My Gmail account is getting the same junk as my .Mac account, emails with random words and an image. Unlike .Mac Gmail filters into the Spam folder and I never have to see it in my inbox and it doesn't download if using POP. If only .Mac Mail worked the same way. I've tried the new .Mac webmail but it's lack filtering and spam handling means I'll keep my account set to forward all emails to my Gmail account where spam is dealt with perfectly. In Gmail I can send emails as though they came from my .Mac account so I'm not missing out.
Anyway this story explains why spam is so bad at the moment:

  • After the newest update, i can no longer type in traditional chinese ( pin yin), does anyone else have the same problem?

after the newest update ( iso 7) , i can no longer type in traditional chinese ( pin yin), does anyone else have the same problem?

I downloaded and tried EasyFind. It works but it took 30+ seconds to complete finding 3 files that are on One of my Five 25+ Gb partitions of my 130 Gb Seagate Cuda(Really 160 Gb, but my Sawtooth will only recognize 130) I figured that if I ever got a better box, I could reformat it to see the whole 160 Gb. So, as far as I can see, Spotlight's indexing scheme which finds the files instantly is probably preferable. Spot light allows you to rename your files from within it's app window. I've always thought that was pretty powerful. Could my doing so be causing me any issues? As i said it is the inability to Type in the Finder that seemed to be caused from changing file Extentions that were mis-written. Maybe it was a delayed reaction to my renaming files in the Spotlight app? I've done both on occasion.
As for these .DS_Store files. Apparently you can NOT stop them from being written to any folder that you touch/open/view during a days session. But, as a function of the OS, are the essential to have in their respective folders Forever? I've looked at the .DS_Store terminator app briefly and assume that getting rid of these files won't hurt the regular operation of my OS. They will just be re-written if I ever have to go back to any particular folder again. But, apparently, some have said that if the plan on burning a CD or DVD of their data, they delete the .DS_Store files first and then do the burn.
I'm thinking from your having suggested this tremination app that you suspect that my having all of these ,DS_Store files could be a situation where any of them could have become corrupted and terminating them regularly should be part of my regular maintenance.
Does that sound like I'm understanding what I can do?
    TIA

  • Has anyone else been SPAMMed?

I have a unique e-mail address EXCLUSIVELY for OTN, but it just got SPAMMed! Did anyone else get this, or is it just me?
    Regards.
    Greg.

Wireless Mail: Real-time email & calendar - wherever you are!
People on the move need e-mails and calendar appointments to arrive on their Pocket PC immediately. They can't afford to wait for a cumbersome synchronisation process before they respond to an urgent request. They want what they can get when they are in the office; automatic real-time delivery of e-mail & calendar events and the ability to open and work on MS Word and Excel attachments with a familiar Microsoft Outlook interface.
IT directors appreciate the productivity potential of real-time mobile e-mail and calendar but need to ensure that security is not compromised. They need to know that the solution will be economical to deploy and support, and that it represents the first step towards further mobile integration of corporate applications such as CRM, ERP & SFA.
Wireless Mail meets all of these requirements with a simple software component that works out of the box, interfacing between a Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes or Novell GroupWise server and client device.

  • Anyone else seeing a sudden uptick in SPAM making it through their Ironports?

    Quick question:
We updated our C170 to 8.5.6-092 last week, and since then we've seen a massive increase in SPAM making it through our Ironport undetected.
I've read some updates here re: SBRS and repengine issues after an 8.5.6-092 update, and have investigated these (both are OK) but nonetheless I am curious if others are seeing the same thing.
What I'd like to know is if these are just a new spam campaign that is making it through the Ironport filters, or if we have an actual technical issue after the 8.5.6-092 upgrade that I'm missing.
    Current status:
Rule Type     Last Update     Current Version     New Update

In general, we're seeing spam with the following characteristics:
    1) many originate from, or contain links to, .link domains
    2) SBRS on these are clear (-1, -2) and gets a pass on the SBRS check
    3) Sample subjects:
    SENDER:     [email protected]
SUBJECT:     Exclusive: Enrollment Plans from Blue-Cross, Humana, and AARP.
    SENDER:     [email protected]
SUBJECT:     Re: Someone has run-a-background scan on you. See-your results #190860649
    SENDER:     [email protected]
SUBJECT:     Alert:Someone ran your background-scan. Read the results #1609820.01
    SENDER:     [email protected]
SUBJECT:     Ford Cuts Prices to Make Quotas.
    SENDER:     [email protected]
SUBJECT:     Website May Expose Your Arrest Records. (see details)
    SENDER:     [email protected]
SUBJECT:     Re: Your background-report may have been viewed on 10/03/14
    4) Furthermore, many contain .link URL's in the content, and the newly added URLscanning seems to be giving these a total pass, too.
    Some samples: http://signupnow.growingmedicareprovider.link , http://detailshere.largelycarsavings.link etc.
We're playing wack-a-mole with individual rules for subjects and .link domains, i.e. to flag and quarantine these as they come in, but I'd like to know if anyone else seeing this, or just me?
    -b

    Hello Bryan,
Ideally for us to diagnose if there is a possible fault in your IronPort or with misconfiguration we would need you configuration file, complete message tracking information and also the actual samples which are passing the device.
Thus i would like to recommend you to open a Cisco TAC case with us so we can be of assistance.
In terms of the information provided (there maybe some other variables to consider as well).
I would suggest firstly running this command on your device if not already done.
    CLI > updatenow force
Let the systems update all services again.
    Continue to monitor.
These server IPs if they continue to send such emails their IP's will hit a blacklist.
However at this point, there are too many variables in place that can affect the scanning of these emails and reasons why they're passing.
    EDIT:
8.5.6-092 revision corrects the SBRS connection that was witnessed in -074 as per the release notes.
    Regards,
    Matthew

  • Spam has greatly increased in my inbox. It was not a problem before. How can this be improved?  Is anyone else having this problem?

Spam has greatly increased in my inbox.  It was not a problem before. How can this be improved?  Is anyone else having this problem?

What mail program are you using???  Who's your provider???
You can usually log in to your account and make changes to spam filtering, server side.
Client side you can add spam filtering software like SpamSieve.  Very effective.

  • Has anyone else had their google account turned into Chinese?

As of yesterday, chrome shows all my google accounts in chinese adn I can't get rid of it. Anyone else have this issue? Should I be worried?

There were many customers in this same situation, including myself. I had 5 of 6 cancelled, I contacted them immediately. This was a major computer "glitch" that is just getting cleaned up in September. Only 3 of my 5 lines have been reinstated. The issue I had with this was that I would now have to wait 16 months instead of 12 months(May through August) to be able to edge up without additional funds out of my pocket.  Or I would have to wait 28 months not the 24 months to be free of the edge agreement. I sent an email to my Verizon area president, within an hour I got a phone call. After an hour on the phone I negoitiated a $75 credit for each line. And then if I choose to early edge in May 2015 I will get an additional credit of $50 towards payment of my device I'm edging up. Since they are unable to adjust the length of the Edge agreement, I started out asking for a $100 credit for each line, which consisted of the $25 per month credit for being month to month in May 2016 to August 2016. Calling them is just a waste of your time, the CSR's can only offer a $50 credit.

  • Anyone else having trouble stopping the spam from Apple?

Ever since I upgraded to Lion and signed into the Mac App Store for the first time, I've been getting junk mail from Apple every few weeks.  Every message says, in tiny, gray type at the bottom, "If you prefer not to receive commercial email from Apple, or if you've changed your email address, please click here."
Every time I get one, I "click here", and give it the e-mail address that it sent the message to.
Every time the website assures me that I've been unsubscribed from all commercial e-mail (but might take 10 days to have an effect).
But despite these promises, I'm still getting spam from Apple.
Has anyone else had this problem, or is it just me that Apple is perpetually lying to?

    MobileMe or iCloud accounts?
You can forward spam to [email protected]
If you are using iCloud >  Cloud: How spam is filtered
Or ..  How MobileMe filters spam messages

  • Reports of Text Msg from VERIZON re: ICS coming  -- anyone else?

Being reported in the MotoRazr Maxx forum - users supposedly getting a TEXT msg frmo Verizon re: ICS 4.0 coming :
    The message started out:
Your phone will soon be upgraded to Android 4.0.  At that time we will remove your Verizon Wireless Mobile IM app because it is not supported on Android 4.0.  Please download a new instant messaging app...  snip ...
    Anyone else getting this?

I REALLY wish VZN would include some base FREE Text Messaging as part of all these changes coming up to their plans and ICS ..  Something like 25 Free Text Msgs per month ...  Reason being is that I have Unlimited Data right now (not using more than 1GB per month) and no Texting Plan ... so I get nickled & dimed by SPAM Texts that I get every month. (I don't want to turn OFF SMS because I get/send valid MSGS from time to time, just not many.)

  • Has anyone else had issues with Verizon Personal Hotspot disappearing?

My Verizon Personal Hotspot has disappeared for the second time in three weeks.  I talked to Verizon and they claim it is an Apple issue.  Have anyone else had this problem?  If so, how did you fix it?  Thanks!

Credits from promotions do expire, and no notice is given. It's up to the company delivering the promotion to post the expiration date, which all the ones I have seen did, though sometimes they buried it in the "fine print". Check with the promoting company, or post what promotion issued the credits and perhaps someone here can confirm whether or not the credits have expired.

  • Send Invitation Inactive/Not Working in Member Center.  Anyone else having this issue?

When I try to invite a developer to our organization's Apple Dev Portal, the 'Send Invitation' link is inactive.  I also tried the bulk invite where the button appears to be active but does not respond when clicked.  Is anyone else having this issue? I submitted a bug report last week and haven't heard anything.

    Hi 2themax11
Still no update from PA Networks - it is like they are in total denial that Mountain Lion exists!
The Cisco app works but only just and is very slow, i think that may be more to do with us than the use of the app. Bear in mind we used to use the Cisco service and so it is not something I had to set up from scratch but it is not something our network team are happy about as this service was buried and was not supposed to be supported any more.
I am also using a Cisco SSL webvpn for accessing our intranet etc. it is a quicker fix for a few things. Like you I am now using 2 laptops...one is an old Dell...it is horrible!

  • Mail gone from working perfect to extremely glitchy?  Anyone else?

Just wondering if there has been an update glitch or something. I am running two computers, one G4 silverdoor tower and a MBP. Mail has worked flawlessly for the time I have owned both computers. Now, they both seem to glitch constantly!
    - mail won't send, does not recognize STMP. Will sit in outbox, then randomly decide everything is ok now? No pattern to behaviour.
    - mail will send, but never actually get go to intended person. Randomly. Some will, some won't. Even if they are sent seconds apart from each other.
Just wondering if anyone else has run into similar problems. I have contacted my hosting provider and they have tested everything from there end and have not found a problem? Not sure why it is an issue now? Everything worked perfectly before, and I have not changed anything.
    Any suggestions
    TY

If this email account and SMTP server used to send messages with the account is provided by your hosting provider which is not your internet service provider used for connecting to the internet, any problems with messages being sent are likely something you need to address with your ISP.
Is your hosting provider's SMTP server authenticated?
Are you using 25 for the Server Port with this SMTP server?
If so, try entering 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field for this SMTP server - Mail > Preferences > Accounts under the Advanced tab for the account preferences - Server Settings button for this SMTP server.
Are you also access an email account and SMTP server that is provided by your ISP with the Mail.app and if so, any problems sending messages with this account?
A successfully sent message (a message moved to the account's Sent mailbox is an indication the message was successfully sent) is either accepted or rejected by the recipient's incoming mail server. Most of the time you will receive a return (bounced) email error message from the recipient's incoming mail server if a message is rejected by the server for whatever reason but not always - especially with the amount of spam being circulated today with spammers using what is called a dictionary attack on an ISP's or email account provider's domain.
If a successfully sent message is not received by the recipient, this is not a Mail.app problem. This problem more than likely is at the recipient's incoming mail server. Your email address or the domain for your email address or your ISP may have been blacklisted by the recipient's incoming mail server if they believe spam is or has been emanating from the provider's domain or from your ISP's domain. A computer's IP address can be blocked or a range of IP addresses by a recipient's incoming mail server.

  • Anyone else getting crashes on waking?

I am finding Aperture 3 regularly crashes my machine after waking up from sleep. The screen re-appears, but everything is frozen.
Don't know whether this is a Snow Leopard or an Aperture problem.
    Anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks!

I actually dont use any of my apple addresses.  I'm pretty well lodged in the google ecosystem.  I wanted icloud for find my phone, contact syncing, and imessage.  I had mac.com but never really took advantage of it, so let it lapse (more fool me, lost the address even though thats my appleID) and the same thing happened when I took me.com a couple of years later (and was too late to get my mac.com address switched over.... which I still think is insane, nobody else has it but me, there doesnt seem to be any logical or technical reason not to allow it... but thats a whole nother issue which only meets brick walls).
The upshot is, these emails are going to addresses and IDs which are not in use. Ergo... either there is a big security breach, or the spammers have a much more sophisticated system for sending to random people within a domain.  I'm leaning towards the first.  I've only been getting these mails this week.  Prior to that, nothing.
I dont think moving a message to junk does much more than mark it as spam for you.  Its not like in gmail where if you do that, its for the whole system, and x reports means it gets classed as spam for everyone.

  • Odd SNMP trap - anyone else seen this?

    Hi, all!
Just got and implemented a couple of C300s and they're making my life a lot easier than my old Marshal servers, but I'm seeing an odd alert in my SNMP traps that doesn't appear to be getting translated by the MIB, and since my traps generate emails to me unless it's a critical, it's leading to something like 125 emails a night.
Just wondering if anyone had seen this trap before and could tell me A) What the hell it is (I -think- it might be related to definition updates or quarantined messages, but I can't find anything to prove that) and B) If it's not in the MIB, if anyone else wrote a custom MIB entry to cover it so I can get some better reporting.

  • Is anyone else not receiving their emails?

I haven't received a single email in the last 48 hrs, which is really unusual considering all the spam we get.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I know it isn't a connection problem, I'm able to pull up my account on a different computer and still no results.

What happens if you send a test email to yourself? Does it send? Do you receive it? Is the problem happening with their Xfinity Connect webmail, an email program, or an app on a mobile device?
Check your "Email Safe List" setting under Users & Preferences / (username) / Email Settings at https://customer.xfinity.com/Secure/UserSettings. This option sometimes gets turned on when it should be off. If you can't find the "Email Safe List" setting you'll need to log in with the Primary user ID.
