Is anyone gaming on the new (Late 2013) iMac 21.5" with the 750M?

My (Late 2009) iMac needs a new Logic Board so I'm not replacing it.
I think I'll just get a new one. I have the 27" 2.8 i7 with the HD4850 512MB card.
I'm thinking of downsizing to the 21" but going for the 256 flash drive and 16GB RAM and hoping the 1gb graphics card is enough of an upgrade.
I don't want to have to spend another ~$500 on the 27" to go for the 780M (4gb). I'd rather spend that $500 on an external 3 or 4gb USB 3 & AppleCare.
Any recommendations?
I only moderately game. (Diablo 3, WoW, nothing too graphics intensive.)

I don't know if you already bought it or not....but it should be fine. I have the latest iMac 21" with Nvidia GT 750M (1gb) and 'only' 8Gb of RAM but I can run Batman Akham City on High on OS X Mavericks, and Battlefield 3 also on high through bootcamp (Windows 7).
If you didn't buy yet, and is not a hardcore gamer than go for it. Diablo 3, WoW and games released up until 2011/2012 should run pretty well

  • I just bought the new late 2013 iMac.  Can I get the new iWork for free?

I just bought a new late 2013 iMac.  Can I get the new iWork for free?  I updated it to Mavericks also.  The Mac App store is showing $19.99 for each iWork component (Pages, Numbers, Keynote).  I also bought the previous iWork version, if that matters.  Free updates for iPhoto and  iMovie seemed to show up with no problems.  Maybe these are just glitches that will clear up in a couple of days?

Hi.  If you want it to get updated, this should take care of it.
    1. Uninstall iWork from your Mac.
    2. Do a fresh install of iWork from DVD.
    3. Install iWork update from Apple Downloads (direct link here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563)
    4. Sign into the Mac App Store, and check for updates.  It should now show up as a free update.  You may have to give it a few minutes (i.e. 10-15 minutes).
I've been a Windows user for years, so I know all of the tricks by now.  I had hoped I would not need this knowledge for a Mac, but oh well...
    Good luck.

  • Why does my iPad keeps connecting and disconnecting from the new late 2013 iMac

    Hi there,
I've recently bought a new late 2013 iMac and ever since then I'm not able to connect my iPad 2 to it. When I do connect it keeps connecting and disconnecting  again and again for some reason. The cable is fine and I've tried it with other devices. Just wondered why this is and whether you guys can help me out.
    Thanks a lot!
    CitizenJohnny

    Hi,
I had the same problem and just found a solution. I tryed restoring all content and settings on the iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings). It took lots of time, however it didn´t work because when I connected the iPad and iMac the problem persisted.
Then I thought it wasn´t an iPad problem but iMac OSX problem. So I searched the web for "Reinstall Mavericks" and found this http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13871?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.
It also takes like 6 hours with my internet speed. Next day I connected the iPad and everything is just fine.
I described both processes because I don´t know if in the end the iPad reset helped in the solution.
    Hope that helps! good luck

  • IBooks Author VERY slow on new, late 2013 iMac

I have an iBook that is about 100mb that I am writing. The book is tediously slow to work on. Moving widgets around takes on inordinate amount of time and sometimes blows up the formatting of the book. On my old Mac Pro Late 2008, I never experienced this.
    I am running Mavericks 10.9.1 on a late 2013 iMac 3.5GHz Core i7, 16gb RAM, 500GB SSD.
Has anyone else have this problem or know a solution?
    Thanks

    I'm in the same problem.
    iBooks is became unusable.
I have published numerous ibooks, but an old update of iBooks (already with Mountain Lion, don'tv remember when), is became very very slow, with the same Mac.
Now I have update to Mavericks (now 10.9.1) hoping to solve the problem, in vain.
I have a MacBook pro 17" later 2011, 2,5 Ghz, Intel core i7, 16gb ram and i work only with iBooks Author and OpenOffice.
    Who can help me?
    Thanks

  • New late 2013 iMac running slow

I purchased a new 21 in iMac in Dec 2013 (late 2013 model), and ever since, its been running very slow. Its slowness is mostly erratic and random, however very noticeable while running Office for Mac documents (Word & Excel), it takes anything from 30 sec - 1 min just to launch these apps. And equally slow while running Aperture (I am a photographer and this is my primary app). I usually end up restarting the iMac several times a day in the hope that it'll speed up. Every one who has seen me work on it has laughed that its slower than most ancient Windows machines.
Over the past few months, with support from Apple customer service, I have reformatted, re-partitioned and reinstalled Maverics on the iMac (and my MBP, which has the same issues), and done everything else that apple normally recommends as routine procedure, but no improvement in performance. The Apple support person has now stopped responding to my calls or emails.
    What could be possible issues?
In my system preferences pane, there is 'Flash player' and 'Java' in the non-system apps installed. I guess we cant do without either of these.
Could there be a problem with my data? The data on my iMac is the same as on my MBP, as I transfered it via TimeMachine when i purchased the iMac.

hi Here is the report from EtreCheck generated on my iMac. Any suggestions on what the issue could be and how to resolve it are welcome. There is 200+ GB free space on the 1TB drive.

  • Dead Fusion drive, brand new Late 2013 iMac. No status update from Apple.

Can someone let me know who I shouyld contact with regards to my below issue? I've spent hours upon hours trying to get my new iMac back from Apple store here in New York city, no success.
    Purchased a new Late 2013 model 21" build-to-order iMac 3 months ago >
Hard drive partition corrupt within first month which required in store HD partition correction flash via genius bar >
HD hardware failed next month >
Genius appointment Feb 6 2014, was told new fusion drive was required and would take "2-3 days" >
7 days later I went in-store for status and was told they had no info and would call me with an update >
3 more days I go in store again after no call, still no status update >
Forced to purchase a new cheaper PC so I could keep working from home >
Now its 13-14 days later, I just spent over 2 more hours with Apple Support and still no results, now waiting for store Manager (“Matt”, W 14th St store in NYC) to call me. Its been 5 hours since my call this morning.
I have purchased a new computer as I work from home and cannot be without a computer fofr my job. This is ridiculous, I demanded a refund yet was told because I purchased from an authorized reseller (Tekserve - tekserve.com ) and not an actual Apple store, they cannot refund. Tekserve receipt states all support must go through Apple as it’s a build-to-order system. I paid over $1800 for this iMac (2.7GHZ quad core, 16gb RAM, Fusion drive etc..) a few months ago and it’s been the worst experience I’ve ever had with Apple in 7 years. Pi55ed off. Give me a new exact model iMac today OR give me a refund.
Apple employee, Look up the below repair ID, it'll have my cell phone number attached. Call me anytime with a solution. I've spent hours and hours on calls with Apple support with no results, no return calls from store manager.
    Serial: D25LG******* / Repair ID R114745188

Thats my only option, I shall visit the store this evening and demand to see the manager.
Buying from an Authorized Apple reseller should never mean I get any less support than buying direct from Apple.
You're totally correct on both counts, when you ask to speak to the manager, even though you may be tempted to be angry the best approach to handling the situation is by being; calm, organzied and persistent. Bring all receipts, include names, times, places of who you spoke to and state your case.
I'm sure your issue will be addressed. In addition if you are in the US you can always call Apple's customer relations phone number, I believe the current number is 800-767-2775.
    Good luck.

  • My new (late 2013) iMac keeps rebooting due to kernel panic

I just picked up a brand-new iMac and pumped it up with 32Gb of RAM. Kinda surprised to have unexpected restarts twice a day (although it really does reboot FAST) Sorta bad though as I'm a designer and need to keep saving my projects every 30 seconds for fear of crashes.
Anybody else? Here's the report.... Fun part is the BSD process name is different every time

SInce it's a new machine, contact Apple's Support, formerly Apple Express Lane and let them deal with it.
Alternatively, boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then uninstall and reinstall Parallels. If KP, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by Rember.  See

  • Will Late 2013 iMac boot from Snow Leopard External Drive?

    Hey gang-
Got a new late-2013 iMac for Christmas (yayyyy!!)
I plan on running Mavericks for day-to-day use, but there are a few old Power PC apps that I occasionally need to run. Does anyone know if the new iMacs will boot from an external drive running Snow Leopard? I have an external Firewire drive with Snow Leopard on it and I'm wondering if the new iMac will boot from it if needed.
    Thanks!
    Dave

Thanks gang.   No worries- I keep an older Intel MacBook with Snow Leopard on it and I suppose it will do in a pinch.
    Cheers!

  • USB Audio Problems Late 2013 iMac - Clicking / Popping / Dropouts

I am having audio clicking and popping issues with a brand new late model 2013 iMac and a USB 2.0 multi-channel audio recording interface.  Here is what I have learned so far:
Clicking and popping is occurring in both directions - playback and recording.  I am not having any issues with internal audio, so this was easy to verify.
The same issue appears in many threads in Apple Support Communities and in various recording/pro audio forums, so this seems to be a common issue.
The issue is independent of the audio interface that is used.  (I am using a brand new Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 that I purchased specifically to use with my new iMac, but the forums report the same issues for a variety of other interfaces and audio devices.)
Five potential root causes are mentioned in the various forums:
    1)  USB 3.0 compatibility issues - poor backward compatibility or other issues
    2)  Fusion Drive activity - artifacts caused by drive "swapping"
    3)  OS X version - newer versions may be worse than old versions
    4)  App Nap - ?
    5)  Driver issues
    Potential short-term solutions include:
    1)  Change driver - The "Class Compliant Mode" app (that I downloaded from the link on the Focusrite website) improved the issue for me, but clicking and popping occurs every few seconds instead of constantly.
    2)  Exchange the Fusion Drive for a conventional 7200 RMP hard drive - Forums report that this does not fix the issue.
    3)  Install older version of OS - Forums report that this does not fix the issue.
    4)  Disable App Nap - Forums report that this does not fix the issue.
    5)  Belkin Thunderbolt express dock - Forums report that a Thunderbolt hub with USB gives excellent results, but the only one I am aware of is the Belkin one which is ~$300.  (I will not pay $300 to fix thousands of dollars of new equipment that should not need to be fixed!!!)
    6)  Apple Care's advice was an SMC reset (essentially a reboot), which clearly did not work.  The person that I talked to was not aware of this being a known issue.
I am at a point where I need to decide whether or not to get a refund for this iMac since my primary reason for getting this new computer was recording.  So...can anyone help to answer these questions:
Has Apple acknowleged this issue?  If so, has Apple committed to fixing this issue via a software upgrade or have they admitted that this is a hardware limitation that is not fixable?
Has anyone found a free or inexpensive workaround (i.e. not the $300 Belkin dock) that completely elimiates this issue?

I'm also having audio issues on my new late 2013 iMac via the USB headset.  Audio starts playing fine and then static starts creeping into the audio until it drowns out the sound.  Only way to fix is to unplug the headset and then plug it back into the USB port.
I've tested the headset on other PCs and my older iMac and the issue doesn't show up.
I've re-installed Mavericks on the iMac, without nuking my data, but that still doesn't solve the issue.
I've logged a case with Apple support and they had me run a program which gathered up a bunch of information to send to their engineering team.  No updates yet so far.
Just one question for those that also have this issue.  Did you restore your data from a Time Machine backup, or is this issue also happening on the Mac that's fresh out of the box?
I'm wondering if this issue could be caused by restoring data from my Time Machine, but I don't want to go through the hassle of nuking my entier hard drive and having to reinstall everything from scratch just to fix this issue.

  • I just bought a new late 2013 27" iMac base model from the Apple Store.

Hi, I just recently purchased the new late 2013 27" iMac from the Apple store, base model that is $1999.00. This is my very first iMac and I was wondering if this is a good first time iMac users PC? My wife will be mainly composing music on it. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Yes, it's perfect. FWIW, next time you plan to buy a computer ask this question before you purchase it, not after.

  • New late 2013 Macbook Pro 15" Graphics issue

Im starting this new thread because I cant find anyone else on here with this problem I'm having.
Since I first got my new late 2013 MBP 15" 16gb RAM 1TB Flash Drive. I noticed a couple of things. First, I opened photoshop cc with about 20+ average res images and a few of them had these random black and white square pixels taking up about 15% of the image. I thought the files were corrupt however I could save the files out and there would be no problem. I noticed when I zoomed into the image, the size of the random blocks would shift, change in size or disappear.
Tonight I was working on a few images and two of the images were completely blacked out rectangles! I could see the image fine in the thumbnail view in the layers panel however the viewer was a black rectangle.
Here I made a screencast of the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJGESQMpxJg
Another ongoing issue I'm having... If I'm in Apple mail or another software where I need to attach a file, it sometimes takes up to 30 seconds before the contents of the file can be viewed to attach. I contacted Apple support and they had me reset the System Management Controller. It doesn't happen as often but it still does once in awhile. Since I reset the SMC, now I'm noticing random clicking sounds when opening applications or my MBP does some heavy computing.
I'm not sure if all these issues are software or hardware related.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

  • Just got a new "late 2013" Macbook Pro Retina, want to install Windows! (Newbie!)

    Hello everyone!
I am brand new to the Apple Community and would like to pick at some brains here!
I just recently bought a new "late 2013" Macbook Pro here and would like to run Microsoft OneNote on my macbook. I have 2 predictaments though!
    1. Which Windows OS is recommended? I searched around and seem to have found that alot of people are having issues with the Windows 8.1 version. Should I just stick to Windows 7?
    2. Also, I know that the Macbook Pro does not have an optical drive; what is the best way to go on about getting the Windows 7 ISO onto a thumbdrive? Would I have to do it through another computer and burn the ISO on the thumbdrive there? Or is there a way to purchase Windows from my Macbook and download from the sellers website and just run Bootcamp to burn the image onto there?
Thank you and I look forward to joining this community!
    Don

I am new to the community as well but have been an apple genuis for a while.  The way I put windows on my mac (late 2012 pro) last year was I bought windows 7, and used bootcamp to install it.  I would have someone at best buy or a tech store do it for you though. If you dont want to pay $200 for windows 7, you can just buy an app called parallels (also at like a best buy) and use that.  I believe it is around $75 but not sure.  Hope this helps

  • Is the late 2013 mac pro compatible with 10.8.5

Is the late 2013 mac pro compatible with 10.8.5

No, except through emulation inside a product such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion.

  • New 2014 iMac or refurb Late 2013 iMac?

Finally replacing my old iMac and read some conflicting reports on whether the latest refresh of 27" iMac were better or worse than the Late 2013 iMac. I will be getting the 3.4 with 1TB Fusion Drive. Does it matter or did they improve the latest revision.
It's not about the price, they are almost the same, it's about which is better.
    Thanks!

Well, the support pages/tech specs only show the late 2013 27" iMacs - there is none listed for this year. The only 2014 is a 21":
Apple - Support - Technical Specifications
Compare those specs to the store's listings of 27" and you'll find they're the same, so I'd suggest getting a refurb as you should save some money. My last 3 Mac purchases were all refurbs. Great deals.

  • Installing Windows 7 on Late 2013 iMac w/ Fusion Drive

Sorry in advance for the long post, but I have tried to exhaust all possibilities, and bring as much knowledge about our environment to the table to avoid confusion.
Here's our goal:  Install Mac & Windows on a Late 2013 iMac with a 1TB Fusion Drive
Install our Mac Image with Deepfreeze on Partition 1
Install our Windows 7 x64 Image with DeepFreeze on Partition 2
Here's why our goal cannot work out of the box:
Deepfreeze for Mac, is not supported on a Fusion Drive. Now before anyone says "just don't use deepfreeze"...we are using it, and that is that.
In order to get our existing image to work on the iMac, we had to split the Fusion Drive.
    Splitting Up the Fusion Drive
We booted into Recovery, Opened up terminal, retrieved the LvGUID, deleted it, and split up the SSD from the HD.
So now, we have a 128GB SSD, and 1TB HD showing up under Diskutilitiy.
We then partitioned the 1TB HD, into two, 500GB Partitions. One for Mac OSX 10.9.4, and the other for Windows.
The 128GB SSD is going to be used for scratch space, temp, etc. And is irrelevant at this time.
    Deploying our Mac Image
After splitting the Fusion Drive, we netbooted and installed a "NetRestore" of our image. Worked completely fine, no issues. DeepFreeze Works fine, the 128GB SSD shows up just fine, and the other 500GB Windows Partition shows up fine. All drives / partitions can be written to with no problem.
    Deploying our Windows Image
Deployed our Windows Partition image as we have done in the past, by booting into a windows PE Disk. (We have other various 2009, 2010, and 2011 iMacs across campus, with NO FUSION DRIVES installed, and dual boot them successfully using the same procedure. Minus the splitting of the fusion drive part of course) After the Windows image is deployed to the windows partition, we then boot it up to a Windows 7 Install disk to fix the MBR, Bootrec, and BCD options to allow it to boot properly. Here's where we run into issues: Upon getting the Windows 7 Install screen, the USB Keyboard and Mouse, DO NOT WORK.
Here's the options we've tried to get them to work properly
    1. Tried another known working Mac USB Keyboard & Mouse = Failed
    2. Tried a known working Windows Keyboard & Mouse = Failed
    3. Plugged Just a known working Mac Keyboard into each USB Port to see if recognized = Failed
    4. Plugged Just a known working Windows Keyboard into each USB Port to see if recognized = Failed
    5. Plugged Just a known working Mac Mouse into each USB Port to see if recognized = Failed
    6. Plugged Just a known working Windows Mouse into each USB Port to see if recognized = Failed
    7. A Windows 8.1 Recovery USB will boot and the USB Mouse & Keyboard are recognized and installed! (YAY!!) However, we cannot repair a Windows 7 install with Windows 8.1..
    BootCamp Drivers & Support Media
Downloaded the Current BootCamp Support drivers to enable the USB and other various drivers to be loaded during setup (Placed the $WinPEDriver$ and AutoUnattend.xml, and BootCamp folder on the Root of a USB, and modified a Windows7 Installation disk and placed on the root as well) The drivers do not load. Have also placed on a brand new USB2, and USB3 flash drive formatted at FAT32, to see if that made a difference, which it did not. The BootCamp USB made within Mac, it loads saying "Now booting into Boot Camp Assistant Created USB Drive..." or something like that (Don't remember the exact Message)
    Side Note:
Restored Fusion Drive to its original State, and booted from the BootCamp USB drive, still no usb Mouse & Keyboard Support.

    I have same issue
Tried everything differend hdd, ssd  as well
Basically when trying instal win 7 via iOS maverick when reboting and windows booting to the first scree everything freezing cant do  much.
Also tried install clear ssd without any system, but soon after format ssd or hdd I have error that I cant use this disk to install windows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is funny Windows 8 installing without any problem!!!
what is going on APPLE??wher is support
This issue I have only on Late 2013 on my other Late 2012 this issue not exist and everything working as should.
