Is anyone having issues Updating iTunes and getting message 'itunes64.msi' file missing?

I have been trying to update iTunes 9.2.1.5 to version 10.22 for windows (64bit) and keep getting this message.
Network resource is unavailable.  Find an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package.  'itunes64.msi' is not found.
I've been trying to update itunes, so I can update my iPhone4.  I've tried installing different versions, same message. I tried uninstalling itunes, and I get the same message!  I've searched my computer for this file and cannot find it.  I have a Dell XPSM1530 with Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Does anyone have this problem?  I've searched for a solution, but nothing has worked.  I also just emailed Apple support about it, we will see what they say.
I would appreciate some help.
Thank you!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

DLL files typically do not affect Mac OS X systems.  Are you sure you are running Mac OS X?  If you are running some version of iTunes Windows, the forum for that is here:

Reinstalling iTunes and getting message "service 'apple mobile device'failed to start.Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services"

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

I am trying to update iTunes and it tells me I am missing iTunes64.msi. I can't find it and I can't proceed. What do I do?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. If you're using Vista or 7, now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair". If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (If you've got XP, although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

  • Is anyone having issues opening itunes in windows 7 professional?

Brand new dell desktop with i7 chip 12 gig ram running windows 7.  Installed new copy of itunes and when i point it at the music folder under my music that I copied from my old machine it starts to load up and then closes.  I have run all scenarios suggested by apple website and nothing has worked.  Does anyone have any insights?

Ummm I think everyone is having this problem, the solution I have found is that to open it in "safe mode"
To open it in safe mode
hold down shift and control at the same time.
you will get a message saying that you want to open it in safe mode if u did it right, continue and it should work.
if u stuffed it up, ctrl alt delete task manager and end the program...
p.s porb have to do this till the nxt update...

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • I am having problems reistalling Itunes and get a permision error

Can anyone help me with a install problem. I am trying to reinstall Itunes and I keep getting the error message below.
    Help

These ones are tricky. But the following instructions are worth a try.
First do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related components (but don't reinstall just yet), as per the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    a. Launch regedit (Start >> Search Programs and Files >> type Regedit and open the regedit that comes up.)
    b. Access the following Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData \S-1-5-18\Components
    c. Perform the following actions
    i. Right Click on Components Folder
    ii. Select Permissions
iii. Select Full Control and Read Permissions options
    iv. Select Advanced Button
    v. Select Owner Tab
vi. Select to Change Owner to the Administrators
vii. Check the option “Replace owner on subcontainers and objects”
viii. Select OK when prompted that it may not change all.
    ix. Select Apply
    x. Select Apply again
    xi. Exit the Registry Editor
Now try reinstalling iTunes again. Does it go in properly this time?

  • Anyone having issues w/iTunes update 6.0.4?

I have 2 computers. I updated the iTunes software on my new laptop to the most recent version of iTunes on 4-23. Before the upgrade, I had no problem connecting my iPod on either computer. After that upgrade, iTunes on the laptop couldn't "see" my iPod. It just sits there with the "do not disconnect" icon flashing...I have done all of the "R's", tried to reset the iPod w/ updater 2006-03-23(but it couldn't perform that operation even in disc mode - something about not being able to mount the port...). I also can't "see" it in "My computer" in the laptop when it is connected and I get error messages telling me that there is a problem with the hardware I am trying to connect through the USB port (I tried all 6 available ports). As a last resort (thinking the iPod was crashed and headed for a repair), I connected it to my PC, which doesn't have the iTunes upgrade, and viola, it recognizes the iPod and does the update no problem. Is it possible there is a bug in the 6.0.4 software that is causing the problem??

    Thanks for the response.
This didn't work either, but here is what I have done.
I took a chance and downloaded the iPod updater on my PC and was able to update the iPod. Good news. Then I uninstalled iTunes on the laptop again and downloaded version six again. Plugged in the iPod, but still no response from iTunes - even in disc mode.
Question: when I re-installed iTunes it brought the existing library back in - should it do that or should the library screen be blank? I was relieved to see the library because all 4000+ songs are volume leveled, but then I began to wonder if I had really completely uninstalled iTunes...any advice here?
Another oddity that may be associated with the problem: I have a Western Digital 130 gig mass storage unit that I swap between the laptop and the PC as a backup device. The laptop is indicating that the mass storge device is connected when it isn't. The safely remove HW window indicates that the mass storage device and the iPod are connected (but the mass storage device isn't)when I click the safely remove hardware icon. If I close the WD device listing in the remove HW window it shuts down the iPod as well, clears all devices from the window and gives me the message that it is safe to remove the HW. I am beginning to think that this is the root of the evil...any ideas on this point?
If the mass storage device is the culprit (or there is a conflict between the iTunes update and that device), does anyone know how to locate the Western Digital storage device software so I can delete it? It doesn't appear in the add/remove programs and I have never had to delete HW from my system before...
Thanks in advance for the help!
