Is anyone running Lion OSX with an EpsonCX5800F printer? I

'm about to purchase an iMac Quad Core 15 with OSX 10.7, but want to keep my current printer, if it will work. Epson says I can download a printer driver for Lion, but I never know all the right questions to ask Does anyone have any experience with this OSX Lion and this printer?

Usually this means that a spammer has compromised the mail account or PC of one of your contacts, and is forging your address as the return address in the headers of his messages. If so, then nope, you could re-install directly to your current Lion drive.
You could also get yourself an external hard drive and use the free CarbonCopyCloner software, or the shareware SuperDuper to make a clone of your current system. Then just boot from the external cloned drive, and you can then reclone your system back to your internal drive.
The two best methods are to keep a TimeMachine backup to an external drive. You could restore the whole system from that from the Lion recovery partition if need be. A bootable cloned drive with CCC or SuperDuper has the advantage it is wholly independent of your current set up. A cloned drive is an exact mirror of your entire current system, is itself a bootable device (plug it in, restart holding the option key, then select the clone drive to boot from) and can be re-cloned back to your internal drive to make it exactly as it was.

Cannot configure wireless printing since upgrading to Lion OSX with HP Envy.

Downloaded latest version of install for Lion OSX 10.7 and stil cannot find device on the network despite software succesfully downloaded, Mac is connected and printer is connected to the network. Why won't my MacBook Pro backup to Time Machine (on my 1TB Time Capsule) when I'm running Lion OSX 10.7.5.? What does it mean when this error pops up: MacBook Pro.sparse bundle could not be assessed (error - 1).???? Please help me fix this!

Apparently I am not the only person having this problem as I have seen many threads about it. If ANYONE OUT THERE CAN HELP ME, I WOULD SINCERELY APPRECIATE IT.
I try and run my backup as I always have, but it HAS NEVER COMPLETED SINCE I UPGRADED TO LION. As many mentions, I updated from 10.7.4 to 10.7.5 hoping that would fix my issue and it didn't help at all. I also unistalled WD SmartWare to no avail. It's really starting to annoy me since I have as much money invested in my MacBook Pro and Time Capsule as I do in my car....
I have more than enough space on the Time Capsule, but Time Machine is still failing and coming up with an error message: MacBook Pro.sparsebundle could not be assessed (error - 1).

Anyone running Tiger & Retrospect with an iSight?

I do support work for a user who has an iMac 800Mhz and an iSight camera. He also has a LaCie external (FireWire) hard drive and we use Retrospect 6 to do backups to file-based sets on that drive. Recently, we upgraded the station to Tiger (and did the corresponding Retrospect upgrade for 10.4 compatibility). Ever since then, the nightly backups get intermittent failures, reporting read errors (bad media) when trying to verify writes to the hard drive. I've bantered with LaCie tech support about this; they've had me update the firmware on the drive, and I even went so far as to reformat the hard drive (using Tiger's version of Disk Utility) but the problem keeps coming back. Even though the drive is under warranty, LaCie won't exchange it based upon only Retrospect having read errors. They've asked me to do all sorts of other testing, like attaching it to another computer, try another FireWire cable, copy large sets of files (1GB+) back-and-forth to the drive. It seemed like rigmarole to me.
But I posted a question about this to the Dantz forum, and he says this problem happens to him -- but only if he's left his iSight also plugged into the iMac! We're not daisy-chained here; I have the LaCie drive in one port and the iSight in another -- but I'm wondering if anyone else out there can confim having this problem on their systems? If so, anyone know if it is supposed to be fixed in a future update?

I am sorry to hear that you are having these problems. Most of us who upgraded from 10.3.9 (a mature OS X version) to Tiger 10.4 (the initial release of the version) immediately noted that all was not well. Try the good suggestions already posted in response to your problems. If they do not get you sorted, here follow my best ideas.
As does everyone else, I expect that things will continue to improve as the updates are issued, but until then, the best I can offer is my suggestions for making the current version of Tiger work as well as I can. I also offer my work arounds for the remaining problems.
First, I suggest that

update to the latest version of the Mac OS they use. 10.3.9 and 10.4.2 both offer significant improvements over their predecessors. If you do not already have a well tried and good method of updating, see How I Update My Mac OS X.
Then,

suggestions above regarding updating to the current firmware and software versions on

that is giving trouble. Apple covers Mac, the OS, Apple applications, and iSight with Software Updater. However, you will need to check and update all 3rd party hardware and software separately. Many 3rd party apps require updating for compatibility with new OS X version updates. Some patience may be required because development of the 3rd party updates can take a while. In the meantime, 3rd party questions that are not quickly resolved in Apple Discussions are likely best resolved in the 3rd party Support Pages or their dedicated discussions forums.
I have no help to offer to those who must keep iSight, TV or other AV devices, external drives, and other Firewire devices all connected to their Macs all the time. As explained in the Possible hardware or software conflicts with iSight. FAQ, I use iSight by itself.
iSight's demand for a solo connection to my Mac is not new to Tiger. It worked exactly the same for me in Panther, even in 10.3.9. I must

Those who have healthy Macs (Mac OS X maintenance), should not need a telephone to ask someone to connect iSight. iChat AV can run without iSight. In fact, I normally leave my iSight unplugged. A text or audio message asking to plug in iSight when convenient works for me. (You may need to reset the

to "iSight Built-In" after you connect your iSight.)

Does anyone have experience of running a SSD on a 2009 MP, without TRIM, without issues....if so for how long and which model?

OS X should by this time, but does not implement TRIM across the board, even though SSD has been around for 4 yrs and TRIM support in Windows has been supported since Windows 7 beta over 3 yrs ago. Is it only a matter of throwing a switch to support non-Apple ? that seems to be what TRIM Enabler suggests. Not if Apple is using proprietary firmware.

All SSDs will have some form of GC – it is not an optional feature
NAND flash cannot directly overwrite a page with data; it has to be first erased
One full block of pages has to be erased, not just one page
GC starts after each page has been written one time
Valid data is consolidated and written into new blocks
Invalid (replaced) data is ignored and gets erased
Wear leveling mainly occurs during GC
The OS tracks what files are present and what logical blocks are holding the files
SSDs do not understand the file structure of an OS; they only track valid data locations reported by the OS
When the OS deletes a file, it marks the file’s space in its logical table as free - It does not tell the drive anything
When the OS writes a new file to the drive, it will eventually write to the previously used spaces in the table
An SSD only knows data is no longer needed when the OS tells it to write to an address that already contains data

The OS sends a TRIM command at the point of file deletion
The SSD marks the indicated locations as invalid data
TRIM Features:
► Prevents GC on invalid data
► Increases the free space known to the SSD controller

Anyone Running Two Macs with Logic?

Just wondering how much time it saves and more power it gives...I have a Dual 2G and was thinking of one of the new Intels and using OSX's built in networking, with adat out of the second Mac back to my Fireface.
I'm just trying to get a handle on how much help this would be to me, DSP wise, etc. I know I could put some of the VSL library on it, or whatever...
I'm also a little confused about whether doing it like this is different than using the LOGIC node thing, and if so, which would help me more. I tend to use a lot of plug ins, some of which aren't LOGIC's.

X: Basically, Justin has given the info on LAN MIDI.Regarding the hardware route: just think of the slave computers as hardware synths,and you're near the mark. For example, on my DP 2.0 I run a single MOTU MIDI Express,giving me 8 ports.That is then connected to one of my AMT 8's.The only problem with that is V-Stack is capable of supporting 16x16,so to take full advantage, you'd have to double the number of MIDI interfaces.So,for that one computer alone you would require 4 MIDI interfaces. That's when hardware starts to become unwieldy. And expensive. I have five AMT/Unitors and a MOTU, but really don't wish to acquire more;so I'm going to take a look at MIDI over LAN. Maybe the answer is a hybrid configuration.
Regarding getting the sound out. Each slave computer has a soundcard: in my case the excellent Hammerfalls. I take the ADATs out of those into the Quad's rig of MOTU's. The audio i/o's on each are freely configurable in both the Hammerfall's software and the V-Stack's/Kore's and all other standalone instruments. It's way, way more powerful and flexible than the node method.

I ran the test and it came no answer, but after removing part of the arguments i finally located this string in the result:
"reg" = <00000000000000400000000000000040>
This could obviously mean that I indeed have 2 64 bits wide registers working simultaneously. Can someone out there with "unmatched pair" run the test and report about the result?
Type this string at the terminal:
ioreg -p IODeviceTree -n memory -S
and look for the row:"+-o memory <class IOService>"
If this returns either "reg" = <00000000000000000000000000000040> or "reg" = <00000000000000400000000000000000> then I am on the right track to know if the system runs in dual channel mode.

Of course I could just remove one of my 1 GB RAM modules, but I thought it would be much simpler if someone else meeting the criteria would be kind enough to share their results with me. The procedure doesn´t harm the computer. It would be a very stupid thing to post such a thing. Of course I´ll also mark the answers as helpful or solved when I have enough replies.

Anyone else had success with Kodak 5100 printing from Time Capsule?

So I recently bought a Time Capsule and until now have been happily printing from USB port on PC and now on Mac.
We were going to buy a wireless printer but found out that the Time Capsule supports that capability by connecting a printer to the USB on the Time Capsule.
So, set it all up, connected my Kodak 5100 and it appears to see it and lists the printer in the print utility on my Mac as location "Time Capsule".
Printer is on, paper in, ink levels ok.... print a test page and my Mac thinks it's printing but the Kodak 5100 Easyshare (!!) is doing nothing!
Having searched the blogs for a while, and mindful that the Kodak 5100 is a couple of years old now, I eventually found a solution that appears to work!!

I have to thank someone else for suggesting this back in 2009 on another post on this forum but I can't find the post so thank you whomever it is, this still works! When you set up the driver, you need to select that you are connecting to the printer through another Mac - I think the only other option I had was to select USB connection. Once you are in, you'll notice that the software is not as user friendly as the latest versions but if you can print wirelessly from your Mac, then I'd like to think you won't care about the UI of the printer software!
I've only just done this and tested with a colour excel from MS Excel for Mac so will let you know if anything else doesn't work!

I've tried using an ethernet connection. It does work faster and I seem to get more files over, but it STILL eventually hangs. I've given up with Time Capsule and now backup to a Lacie 1Tb disk. It would nice to know what is going wrong you Apple guys!

If you just do a normal time machine backup on your macbook pro and then plug that harddrive into your new air; you should be able to just use migration assistant to transfer all your files. You wouldnt need to upgrade to mountain lion on your macbook pro.

You'll not have any trouble with most processes on any dual-core 2GHz Mac with 4 or more GB RAM. (With only 4 GB, you shouldn't run any other programs when Aperture in running.)
Sharing Previews is a no-no (but IME it is the single biggest bog-field in the app). Load time will go up. Faces may become slow. It will take A LONG TIME (days) for Aperture to finish all its initial internal processing. Search the forum for general suggestions on keeping Aperture running well.
I built up a test library of 250,000 images just to make sure. I was able to run this Library off of an external FW400 drive (the whole Library, not just the Masters) on a 2.3 GHZ dual-core laptop w. 4 GB RAM.
I have since put together a database of 350,000+ images. It runs fine. I'd say it runs "normal" on all machines, as long as operations are kept to 100 images or so. Relocating a quarter-million Masters will take some time. Moving 10,000 images into new Projects, or moving those Projects into new Albums, can take a few minutes (but under ten).
You should set aside a week for the import and all the processing. I strongly suggest turning Faces off until the Library is structured and working (you've made most major changes and you've not stumbled across any glitches). Then you can turn Faces on and let it run in the background for a few days. I suggest NEVER turning on "Share Previews". YMMV.
My experience w. a 350,000 image Library leads me to believe that it could handle 10x that. The breakdown of the work seems to have been well-engineered to fit the currently available pipelines. But -- the faster your machine, the faster Aperture will run. Tony Gay and I compared his PowerMac with my MacBookPro for some Aperture tasks -- his was twice as fast.

A) Install Java for Lion – <http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1421>
B) Enable applet plug-in by going to
GO>UTILITIES>Open Java Preferences and TICK the option box ‘Enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications’ in the 'General' part of the settings
(For new user you need to apply online for a key with the ATO)
For user with an existing AUSkey, you will need to recover the key from your previous computer or previous system.
a) For System 10.4.xx to 10.6.8
Go Home folder>Library>Application Support> select the Folder “AUSKey” and make an archive (ZIP)
b) Transfer this “AUSKey” Zip folder to your new Mac computer Desktop
On the new Mac, running Lion
1) Download+ Install Auskey V 1.4.0.3 Software from ATO, here

Launch again ECI> Click select Certificate, it should now be installed.

Adobe premiere elements 10.0 uses more than 100% cpu on macbook pro lion osx 10.7.3

Hello All,
We have a macbook pro 17" 2.66Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3 running lion osx 10.7.3.
When trying to run a video in adobe premiere elements 10.0, the video really lags. I checked the activity monitor and the cpu usage for the elements app process goes above 100%. Sometimes even 170%.
No wonder why its struggling to render the video.
Anyone noticed this issue too?
All suggestions welcome.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try that soon. My macbook meets well over the hardware requirements for that package. Also only the cpu usage is high, i have 4GB ram and only 500-700 MB of that gets used by adobe premiere.
I have have run the hardware test in a loop and it passed everytime, so i dont doubt the hardware.

Problem solved - I was using my Apple I.D. Password by mistake when I should have been using my Mac OSX password. Apple support gave me this solution and I was then able to install the Mountain Lion OSX with no problemo!
