Is anyone using a Digi 003 with Logic? What is latency like? Thoughts?

Hey EVeryone
I am looking at a Digi 003 interface for running Logic... we are keen to use an automated desk, instead of the Yamaha n12 currently in use...
The n12 has been BRILLIANT in terms of low-latency monitoring - we usually run it at a buffer of 32 samples and for most scenarios, even with a fair few effects running, that works really well for direct monitoring through Logic.
I'm interested to know what experiences people have had with the Digi 003 in terms of latency...
Another thing I love about the n12 is that I can just monitor straight through it, when I don't need to run any effects in real-time on the channel I'm recording. This is a simple thing that's really handy.
Is there any such option for running a channel straight through the 003 at zero-latency, if required?
Any other feedback, beyond the issue of latency, would also be welcomed!
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike
I have a 003R, I loath it. I have had to have it sent back for repair many times to Digidesign. I bought it to retain compatibility with ProTools incase clients brought PT sessions in. Well, since I bought it, I have had zero requests to use PT. It has issues with latency, frequently changing from one recording to another and not recognizing the buffer settings within Logic. The latency issues were the same within PT too, even switching from 44.1 to higher settings like 48Khz made it have latency. I have had enough so I am selling it and switching back to an all Apogee system.
Mattrix is right, shop around, there are way better systems for less money out there. Only get one if you absolutely need ProTools compatibility.
Sincerely
Bobbi
ps Another frequent problem is it "drops" from the system and you have to reboot it to use it again...

  • Anyone using Tascam DM-3200 with Logic

Anyone using the Tascam DM-3200 with Logic? Sure seems like an easy solution combination of converters and DAW control, plus onboard effects.

    Hey Joseph,
I have this combination. I like it so far. I'm not really a "mixer" person but I am resolute in learning how to use this thing in depth!
Anyways, as far as controlling Logic, I got it working pretty easily. It seems that the faders don't seem as "sensitive" as my Logic Control (I think I mean resolution, perhaps?). I also have not played with the Tascam enough to know what other features are mapped out besides just level faders. It is very easy to switch between a fader layer and the Mackie control layer: just one button press. One thing though is if I have logic set to auto-sync in, and play, it will receive some timecode from somewhere and then stop after 2 bars. Don't know why this is, and it means I'll have to disable the Tascam's midi if I want to sync Logic to, say, Protools.
I connect my old 828 via Adat to Tascam and it sounds so much better than the Analog ins to the Tascam, so I'm happy about that. I have also the 8 Analog input card so I have a total of 24 Analog Ins which is nice too.
If you have any specific questions, I'll try to asnwer them, but so far, i like the combination a lot. My one complaint - they put the Control Room volume way up at the top of the mixer. My keyboard (Roland XV88) protrudes a bit from the front of the mixer, so i can see myself getting back spasms if I reach that volume control a lot!! I guess I'm shorter than the average user! Anyways, the mixer sounds good enogh to my ears.
    Cheers
    Ken
PS The manuals for the mixer are at Tascam's website. You can also take a peek at them to get a sense how things are setup.

  • Anyone use the Line6 KB37 with Logic?

I've been planning to get a new interface and was going to go with the Apogee Duet, but then discovered the Line6 KB37. Can anyone here that has it comment on it? How are the mic pres? Is it pretty stable? How is the latency? Feedback appreciated. Thanks....

hi..i've advocated the KB37 many times on this forum, you get a lot of bang for your bucks, the best aspect is that there is ZERO LATENCY!!, that's right, absolutely ZERO, so you can set logics buffer to max and it wont matter, this is because the KB does all the monitoring. The mic pre's however are very average, but for what you pay that's no surprise. You can hear some of my work on www.steveshadforth.com ,all logic and KB37. Good luck with whatever choice you make, keep coming back to the forum!! Steve

  • Anyone using reason 4.0 with logic?

im using reason 4.0 abby road samples and im getting latency when i try to record tracks. i have a 2.0 processor and 2 gigs of ram. any advice?

I had that problem B4. I was getting huge latency in my mic when trying to do vocals and couldn't figure out why for the life of me. Then EVEN THO I WAS TOLD BY EVERYONE THAT PLUGINS ARE NO LONGER USING CPU WHEN BYPASSED, I did have the PSP Vintage on my Master but IT WAS BYBASSED! after I removed it completely, no more latency! So Maybe one of your hefty plugins is the culprit??

  • Has anyone used Aperture 2.0 with 8800GT?

Has anyone used Aperture 2.0 with the new 8800GT? I'm about to order a new Mac Pro and wonder if Aperture will get a speed boost with the 8800GT over the HD 2600XT. I've read many times that Aperture is very GPU dependent, but then I've also read, on Barefeats.com for example, that the graphics card really doesn't do that much of a difference after all.
For me, on my dual 2.0 G5 with 4.5GB and a X800XT, what's been most annoying with Aperture 1.5 has been the slow load times for raw images (15-20MB). But now with the quick preview mode in Aperture 2.0, that really isn't an issue any more.
Is the 8800GT worth waiting for, or should I just get the Mac Pro now with the HD 2600XT?

    Hi Don
I'm using Aperture 2.0 with the 8800GT. My system is the new MacPro 8 core 2.8GH with 10GB RAM. I'm shooting Nikon D3 lossless compressed RAW files. Approximately 12-14MB each.
I do not need to use the quick preview mode. Images open instantaneously, either fit to screen or 100%. All the image adjustments are shown with no time lag. My D2X uncompressed raw files,19MB, display in approximately one second with quick preview turned off.
I'm no MAC hardware expert so I don't know how much the speed is the result of the 8800GT but I'm just one happy camper.
    Hope this helps

If your info is correct you need to first buy Snow Leopard from the Apple on-line store ($20) install and update to 10.6.8 and then buy Lion from the App Store for $20.

Anyone using Brother HL-2170W with their Mac? I read some reviews at newegg and they are not bad , but at the apple store the reviews are not that good at all. Is this because it is not working well with Leopard as most printers don't or what?

Verizon informs me that Windows is only needed to download and install some form of authentication and that the free wi-fi hotspot service can be used from then on from the Macintosh side. Even though it's a Windows program, I'm assured that the authorized status will be detected when the Mac laptop is used under OS X

  • Always used 1 main account.  Started using individual user accounts. So how do I use software or applications with a lot of data like Quicken under my own user account?

I recently upgraded our family's mac to OS X.  I thought this was the perfect time to create and use "user accounts".  We had always used 1 main account.  So how do I use software or applications with a lot of data like Quicken under my own user account?  I wanted to be able to manage my own itunes library, iphone apps, messages.  But I still really need to use the Stuff I have in Quicken essentials.  I don't want to have to restart all my work done in Quicken already.

I haven't used Quicken in a while, but most applications store your files in your Documents folder. Is that where your Quicken data file is? What you do next depends on how many family members need to get at that data.
If multiple family members need to use the Quicken data file, try moving it to the Documents folder in the Shared account. That is an account that all accounts can see. It's at the same level as the other accounts. In other words, Shared is one level up from your Home account, or Hard Drive/Users/Shared.
If you're the only one allowed to see that Quicken data, move the Quicken data file from the old main account to your account, and don't leave a copy behind. You can use the Shared folder as a way station for the transfer since you won't be able to see both accounts' Documents folders at the same time (because you're not allowed to peek into other people's accounts). Or you can use another disk or server for the transfer, as long as you can get to it when logged into either account.

  • Logic 8 and Digi 003 with RME-ADI-2 as DA/AD converters.

I am very new to this so, I'll do my best at explaining what I am trying to accomplish. I am running Logic 8 with a Digi 003 as my interface (connected by firewire). I just got an RME ADI-2 converter (connected to 003 via optical i/o). I have the outputs of the converter working fine to my monitors, but I can not figure out what I need to do to use the RME as a source for inputs. In Logic preferences for Audio Hardware, it does not give me the option for using the RME (only the 003).
Any help on this would be great. Thanks in advance.

Usually you'd create an aggregate device (Utilities Folder - Audio/MIDI set up) to create a new virtual device, into which you can combine two or more devices, including built-in audio I/O.
But although I'm not certain (as I don't use an 003) I don't think you can create an aggregate device with an 003 (no harm in trying, though).
As your RME is already working fine connected to the 003 via optical, presumably as the 003's outputs 9/10 (S/PDIF?), wouldn't the inputs be available also on 9/10? Doesn't the 003 support ADAT - in which case the RME's ins/outs should show up, but as part of the 003 if you cabled the RME to the 003 via the ADAT connections.
Sorry to not have a definitive answer, but maybe try some of the above variations. Maybe an 003 user will chime in.

  • Anyone using iTunes 7.2 with Volume Logic ??

I am wondering if it is safe to use iTunes 7.2 with VL? Is the water warm?
    Cheers, S.
PS: would rather be with iTunes 7.1 with VL than with 7.2 and no VL.

I upgraded to 7.2 and can tell you that Volume Logic seems to be working fine.

  • DIGI 002R with Logic 8.0.2.

It seems that when in use with Logic it gives me almost no control over how loud the volume is. It was blistering loud at first (enough to make my heart race) even though the volume was all the way down. After several attempts to lower it I ended up using the Digi Core Audio Manager to lower the overall output of the digi. This helped bring it down to a reasonably loud level but still no control of the volume.
Not to mention it plays absolutely nothing when trying to play audio from my computer itself (previewing, itunes...)
Are there drivers i'm not aware of?

As far as iTunes, system sounds, etc... you have to tell your mac, in sound preferences to use the digidesign core audio drivers for that.
Oy. Don't get me started on that. If I double-click on a .mov, it opens, but doesn't seem to catch the Digi Core Audio driver, so it's silent. I actually have to launch QuickTime Player first with the Content Guide launch on, and then open the .mov to hear the audio.
The system sounds play through the Mac speaker regardless of the fact that I set the Sound sys prefs to play everything through the Digi box.
I don't get audio when using Leopard's QuickLook on audio and video documents in the Finder.
Sometimes the Digi Core Audio utility doesn't quit, so it keeps my Mac from shutting down.
Sometimes the Digi Core Audio utility won't connect to the Digi box because it thinks it's "in use."
I just gotta say, I had to get the Digi box in order to use Pro Tools and I'm beginning to think that's not a good enough reason. I think I'm gonna hook my MOTU back up and just turn the Digi box on only when I need Pro Tools.
Sorry, this is a totally out of context rant and it's not directed at anyone but Digi, which means posting this in this forum is especially silly.

  • Anyone using Groove Agent 2 with GB202

GA1 in GB1 had to many problems. I couldnt manipulate the interfase. Now i only use Virtual guitarist. Im wondering if GA2 works smoothly. Im also wondering how it would work.
Could it be used on more than one track to create fills etc..
anyone out there using any VST/AU's at all

When used as a VST with Cubase, GA3 can write the MIDI data directly onto an instrument track as the machine is played, skipping the "create external MIDI file/import.
What you need to look at are the automation capabilities.
Every parameter of the GA series can be automated. If you map the song out and "play" GA3's buttons, Logic records your "performance".
Fills, 1/2 Time, Pattern Change...etc are all recordable via automation.
Affer you get the song mapped out and the automation/performance finished the track can then be bounced as audio or exported as MIDI for editing.

  • Anyone using a Behringer BCF2000 w/ Logic Express??

I'd sure like to get my hands on a decent control unit and the Behringer BCF2000 fits the bill and the budget. I was curious if anyone here is using this unit and could tell me how easy it is to setup in Logic.
    Thanks,
    Brad

I use the BCF2000 with Logic Express, and it works perfectly. Fortunately, since the firmware update (available on the Behringer homepage), the BCF2000 supports emulation of Logic Control, meaning you get to save yourself a lot of hassle assigning the individual knobs. Personally, I'd recommend it, since it seems to be the only control surface that offers nice features for reasonable pricing. My only problem is that the faders aren't touch-sensitive, meaning you sometimes have to fight with them if you've got automation data. Apart from that, great piece of equipment to have.
    Hope that helps,
    IKEA
