Is Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1 safe to download?

I have OpenOffice 3.3.0 installed from several years ago and wish to update to Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1 and wish to know if this is safe and will a download be stopped by Gatekeeper which is set to accept "Mac App Store and identified developers"?
Are there any other considerations.

I downloaded it yesterday on my iMac and it seems to work fine
And to open it anyway press control and click it then choose open

  • Is Apache OpenOffice Safe for my MacBook Pro I am a first time Apple User.

I am coming from a PC with over 27 years experience and most recently windows 8 I had to return 2 new notebooks with windows 8 with nothing but problems so I really had it with microsoft and I am a brand new apple user of only 2 weeks so I went out and purchased a MacBook pro and what a difference. I worry way to much and was concerned about downloading Apache OpenOffice for my new MacBook Pro. Is it a safe program to put on my Macbook and is it stable or can I expect problems. I would greatly appreciate any help the community can offer me. Thank you very much for your help...Would I be better off downloading Apple's version of a spreadsheet & word processor I believe they are around $20.00 each Thanks again.

Open Office is a suite of applications similar to Office 2007 for Windows. It is not 100% compatible with Office, but it is close. However, I would suggest using Libre Office. It is much like Open Office because they both come from the same original source code. But Libre Office seems to be better supported.

  • Apache Openoffice document connector in sharepoint

We have used Apache OpenOffice document in our SharePoint server.
Is there any way to open or edit OpenOffice, like Microsoft Office documents?
We have found Oracle provide the solution for SharePoint and OpenOffice connector extension.
But this is not a free. Any open source available for this?

    Hi,
Open Office does not have the SharePoint ActiveX controls that ship with Office,
so they're unable to use the direct save to SharePoint functionality that Office has.
As a workaroud, you can try to open the document library in Windows Explorer view, and double click the document to open in Windows Explorer view.
What’s more, iFilterShop provides and iFilter for OPenOffice Documents in SharePoint, you can have a look at.

  • Apache openoffice and libreoffice

I have seen that Oracle has given openoffice to the Apache foundation. One question I have is if the libreoffice fork still necessary. It was my understanding that Oracle prevented good development of openoffice and claim too much control. But now? What's the main reason to keep to have two versions?

They also use different licenses, so i doubt the 2 will merge again.
You may be right but I can't prevent me to think that this is sad. How business users can be so different to individual users in regards of an office suite? (M$ sell basically the same office suite to both clients, apart some differences that do not justify a new product). As for the license, do we really need two projects for that? The LGPL as well as the apache license allows proprietary linking...
I wonder if Linux distributions (and archlinux in particular) will now ship openoffice again. I thought after the fork that Libreoffice will have been just the continuation of openoffice while openoffice itself will die (recalling the Xorg fork of Xfree86). But now? We can't just say that the Apache foundation do everything wrong as we may have said with Oracle.
The distros didn't all ship with OpenOffice before; Ubuntu and OpenSuSE both shipped with go-openoffice. Anyway, the OpenOffice brand took a pretty big hit, so I don't see any distros switching back.
As far as licensing is concerned, Microsoft does make different versions of Office - Student, Professional, etc., targeting different segments. Feature segregation won't really apply here, so I am also not sure I buy the enterprise-consumer split either.

  • Have Mavericks OS and having difficulty opening Apache OpenOffice after installation.

Have Mavericks OS and  installed  Apache OpenOffice 4.0 on my new iMAC. When I tried to open the program I received this message: "OpenOffice cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.  Anyone care to suggest a solution?

The problem was successfully addressed in the side bar "more like this" under "RE:how to install Apache OpenOffice". By selecting "system preferences", and then "security & privacy", and selecting "allow apps to be downloaded from anywhere" I could successfully open the program. Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions.

Your MacBook Air is an Intel-based system. To download the current version (11.2.202.228),  go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download it from there.
If there is still a Flash issue, you can try the Google Chrome browser, which has the current Flash built into it, to see if it works any differently with the videos. It's available from https://www.google.com/chrome

It is safe to download if your phone is not jailbroken. Before you download it, however, take some precautions:
    Reboot your computer
    Disable your antivirus and firewall
Connect the phone cable to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub
Before updating right click on the name of the phone in iTunes and choose "Backup"
When you are given the choice choose "Download only", not "Download and Update"
After the download completes successfully click the Update button to install it.
Most of these steps are just being overly cautious, as most people ignore them and have no problems. But occasionally the extra steps save grief.

  • Is it safe to download adobe flash drive update from the internet (came via a notice from Adobe)

Is it safe to download an update from Adobe Flash Drive via the internet? A message from Adobe has popped up on a number of videos I'm trying to access.

If you are sure it is from Adobe, yes.
If you have the least little bit of doubt then go to the Adobe site yourself and download from their site and then install it.

  • Is it safe to download java yet?

I have a macbook pro mid 2009, and my question is, is it safe to download java yet? i was planning on playing a game but it said that I needed the java plug-in, so I don't know if I should install it or not. Thanks

No, there seems to be a vulnerability reported by programmer, but Oracle says it's a feature and they are going back and forth if it's a exploitable or not which the researcher says it is and Oracle saying it's not and if they fix it it would break Java.
So since the vulnerability is known, it's exploitable it's only a matter of if and when, then Oracle will be screwed as well as those who install Java.
Oracle is working on Java 8, which should fix the problem pernamently.

is it safe to download adobe and jave to ipad2

If by Adobe you mean Flash, you can't. Flash isn't compatible with iOS5 (any iOS honestly)
    I'm  not sure about Java.
The closest you can do is look for a browser in the app store that works with flash. Puffin, Skyfire are two that are mentioned
