Is Aperture 2 compatible with OS X Mavericks?

So I've installed OS X Mavericks, as soon as it was available, as we always do with a new apple update , but now Aperture 2 has become unstable. Bearing in mind that I am a professional photographer, and Aperture is a fundamental part of my workflow, this could be a problem!
My 2.4GHz 2011 MacBook Pro with Core2Duo was running a little slower with Mavericks, so I ran disk utility, repaired disk. This has helped a lot, but Aperture is still a problem. Now I know what you're thinking "Why don't you just get Aperture 3?" That is a long-term solution, I will get 3 eventually, when I have a little more spare cash. Is there a patch or a fix for this?
Thanks!

My feeling is that there is probably some libraries or resources that the old version of Aperture uses but is no longer present (depreciated) or available due to sandboxing in Mavericks.
I would fire up the Console Application in the /applications/utilities folder and see if there are any error messages that are sent to the system or Aperture logs that might reveal why it is crashing.
The other alternative is to revert back to Mountain Lion (hopefully you made a back-up), other than that, upgrading might be your only other option. It is cheaper in price than it used to be.
Look out for neighbourhood stores selling iTunes gift cards at a discount. I've seen sometimes $50 cards on sale for $40 at times. Even though it is intended to be used for Music purchases, they can be applied to Mac App Store purchases just the same once you add it to your account in iTunes.
I know it is not the answer you want but my advice is to always upgrade once you know that all your critical applications are supported. Installing Mavericks on an external drive and installing Aperture 2.x would have been the best way to check.
Good luck, Andrew.

  • Is Adobe CS4 compatible with Mac OSX Maverick?

    Hello,
Is Adobe CS4 compatible with Mac OSX Maverick?
    Thk

I just upgraded my OS to Mavericks X, and my previously installed Photoshop CS4 failed to run when I tried to launch it.
I even downloaded a brand new version from a link here that was in a "Mavericks X" column, giving me SOME confidence that it might just function on the new OS.
So far, I've been down 3 days since upgrading my OS. I cannot get Photoshop CS4 to run, no matter what I've tried!
Yes, I've uninstalled the prior version before installing the new one. I entered all of my serial number and registration information, and still NOTHING! Bridge appears to work fine, but Photoshop CS4 is just one big crater right now!
I'd like to just talk with a human at Adobe on the phone for a few minutes, which should be all that's needed to get it resolved, but they do NOT offer phone support for Photoshop products!!! And, I'm unable to locate how to even become a "Premium Member" (paid) that will allegedly provide phone support!
    HELP!

  • I have 2013 Version V17.0.9 R10 Quickbooks. Is it compatible with OS X Maverick?

I am using 2013 Version V14.0.9 R10 Quickbooks. Is it compatible with  OS X Mavericks? If so, do I have to do anything after I upgrade? Thanks

It should be compatible. I have Quicken Essentials 2010 and it works just like it did with Mt. Lion, so 2013 will also run.  As always, you'll want to check Intuit for updates, but it will run.

  • Is Photoshop 6.0 compatible with Mac OS Mavericks or Yosemite and if yes, how do I install?

is Photoshop 6.0 compatible with Mac OS Mavericks or Yosemite and if yes, how do I install?

Well, probably not what you wanted to hear, but if you come across an older Mac, you should be able to use your old copy.
These are the old system requirements.  You want CS6 or better for today's Intel/OSX Macs.
    • PowerPC® processor
    • Mac OS software version 8.5, 8.6,or 9.0
    • 64 MB of RAM* (with Virtual Memory on)
    • 125 MB of available hard-disk space (after install)
    • Color monitor with 256-color (8-bit) or greater video card
    • 800x600 or greater monitor resolution
    • CD-ROM drive
And thanks for reporting back, at least I know what happened even if it didn't fix things.

  • Can I make any hardware upgrade to make my Mac Pro1,1 compatible with OS X Mavericks?

    Hi!
    I have got a Mac Pro1,1 Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 2,66 GHz, 11 Gb RAM running OS X 10.7.5.
I would like to know if there is any chance to make any hardware upgrade to make my Mac Pro compatible with Mavericks, maybe a Processor upgrade.
I miss all the synchronization features, iMessage and all the goodies Mavericks brought
    Thank you very much!

I'm sorry you can't. Because it has a 32bit EFI. To run Mountain Lion or Mavericks the Mac needs a 64bit EFI.

  • When is Canon going to update DPP to be compatible with Mac OS Maverick 10.9 ?

I recently recommended to an Australian friend to purchase EOS 700D and a 28-135 IS lens. She did so only to find out that DPP is not compatible with her Mac OS Maverick version 10.9. I feel embarrassed about my recommendation and the problem I caused her. When is Canon going to update DPP to make it compatible with all existing OSs?

Jeff, Does your Mac have an optical drive (newest models do not).  Apple does let you use the optical drive in another (presumably) nearby computer if there is one available.
Canon now lets you download the software (this is new... it used to be that you HAD to install the original media even if it was old (you did not have to run it... just had to install it) and then you could install the updates to bring it up to the current version.
To get the downloadable version of the software (this is the same software that's on the disk) first go to the Canon 6D software download page here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_6d#DriversAndSoftware
On the "Operating System" menu, pick "OS X Mountain Lion v10.8" (do this EVEN if you are really running Mavericks v10.9 -- because Canon hasn't added the software download disk to the 10.9 category yet).
From there, pick the choice named:
"EOS Digital Solution Disk Software 28.2A for Mac OS X (For users who cannot use the bundled CD)"
and since it's a long name, it probably reads:   "EOS Digital Solution Disk Software 28.2A for Ma..."
When you pick this and proceed through the steps to start the download, it will probably prompt you to type in the serial number of your camera.
From there you should be able to install using the download.

  • Is the Aperture software compatible with Lion & iDVD

Is Aperture creating either a movie or slideshow compatible with Lion and then iDVD to burn a DVD using iDVD? As it stands now, with Lion, I cannot burn any DVD using iDVD and iMovie, iPhoto or Aperture.. Does this mean iDVD is broken under Lion and those applications ? If so what new $ software should one buy that is compatible with those Apple Applications to burn those applications to a DVD's ? The iDVD lead in's were really nice..

I'm surprised to hear that iDVD cannot burn a DVD on your system. Have you looked into it at all? Have you tried resetting the PRAM and PMU?
    Thank you, Frank,
that surprised me as well! The error message I got was "Your Macintosh does not have a supported SuperDrive".  It happens only on my MBP 17" 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 since OS 10.7.3; I tried some hardware trouble shooting, hardware test, resetting the PRAM and PMU, but then ignored it, because I had no need to use iDVD and still can run iDVD on my SL MBP or the Lion iMac.
Right now I cannot do anything about it, because I have installed a Developer Beta Version of MacOS on that MBP; so I cannot do any further Lion Tests on that machine at the moment, or discuss system related issues concerning that machine in a public forum

  • Are Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC compatible with OS X Mavericks?

Would like to check compatibility of Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC with OSX Maverick.   Will I have to reinstall these apps after I upgrade?

Okay, that is helpful. What resolution you have a file set to makes no difference at all. It can be 10 dpi or 1000 dpi. Resolution only makes a difference to an output device (printer).
Notice to the right that the brush icons, and the brush sample are smooth. So it's not a driver, profile, or monitor resolution or color depth issue. If it were, they'd look just as bad.
So that only leaves the image itself. Though for the life of me, I can't get PS CC to duplicate what you're seeing. The smaller brush stroke to the lower left on your screen shot looks normal, so why are the larger ones banding so badly? It doesn't make sense.
Edit: Oh! Wait, something is wrong here. You have the opacity of the brush set at 27%. So there's no way it should be drawing a solid black center. It should look like below where I changed the opacity to 27% and then drew the grayish strokes.
The opacity is not being represented correctly. No idea at the moment what would be the cause.

  • Is Aperture 3 compatible with 2009 Mac Book Air 2.1 (MC 234 LL/A) RAM 2GB

Do I have to upgrade my Mac Book Air to Mavericks OS or will work under Snowleopard?
    Regards

The Mac App Store version of Aperture requires Mac OS X 10.9 or newer. If you choose to buy an Aperture DVD, it needs to be version 2 or 3 to work in Snow Leopard.

  • Linksys router not compatible with os x maverick

is any body has the same problem.

    HI,
    I asked four questions.
    You answered one of those.
You are not going to progress very fast at this rate.
The PortForward.com site has a set of Screen Shots of this device http://screenshots.portforward.com/routers/Linksys/E3200/
I was looking at them and found this on the Wireless set up page
I am not familiar with this PIN number method.
I am presuming the Manual option provides the SSID name and the Passphrase  that other routers may use for WPA encryption.
There is also a page on USB Connected Drives being used suggesting it has similar capabilities to an Apple Time Capsule.
Therefore the device is not that old.
    It can be Wireless.
How you are connected to it I still have no idea.

  • Is Aperture 2 compatible with OSX 10.6?

I currently run 10.4 on an older Intel iMac and need to upgrade to 10.6.  However, I have software such as Aperture 2 and Microsoft Office that I would rather not have to replace.

Even if they're PPC apps, as most 10.4 compatible stuff is, they will run under "Rosetta" in 10.6.
That's the end of the line, though, as NO OS higher than 10.6 will run Rosetta or PPC apps.
