Is Apple Certified status worth it?

Dear All,
I am currently working in the broadcast industry and have managed to make the conversion to content editing for internal broadcast requirements. I am in my late twenties so hopefully not an old man to this industry yet
I was wondering if Apple Certification is worth pursuing or are there more industry recognisable certifications available.
Thanks in advance,
Excelsior01

+i have heard that the test is fairly hard+
as in any test, that surely depends on how well you actually know the subject matter, and how well prepared you are for the test.
i've heard the complete opposite. in fact for a long time it was an open book, open app, multiple choice test ... tests don't get much easier than that. test conditions may have changed tho.
+you are aware that you have to train for a Cretan number of years before you are allowed to take it+
not true. unless Cretan is a kind of fraction from Greece that i haven't heard of you do have to take the test at an authorized training center tho. for level one exams you are not required to sit a class, for level two you must have level one certification already, and are required to sit the advanced class.
+and you have to pay for the test+
is there any other kind?
but the sentiment is spot on. theres precious little chance it will get you a job. those come based on the quality of your work. but if you're looking for work as a trainer in Apple's Pro Apps, then getting certified as a Trainer is a step in the right direction, and for that you probably need user certification

  • Is there such a thing as Apple Certified Technicians for iPads?

I recently made the mistake of taking my mini in for repair of a cracked digitizer to a local shop.  A month, several arguments, and 5 visits later, the screen is finally staying on, but the front camera is now very hazy.  They say they took it apart again and cleaned the screen and that since it's no better, it was probably that way before.  The owner insists that his techs are all Apple Certified Technicians, and that they are doing the repairs the same was Apple does them.
I can't find any proof of that type of certification even existing.  And they are not a certified repair center.
Anyone know any other reason the for the camera to all of the sudden be so bad?  All I can think is there has to be a fingerprint on a lens or something, but they swear they have fixed that.

This registry is a voluntary public listing of Apple certificants. Since not all certificants are listed, you can click hereto obtain an individual's official credential status. If you hold an Apple certification and would like to send an official verification to another party, log into the Apple Certification Records System and select Publish Credential.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Contact the nearest Apple store for a definitive answer.  We are users like you and cannot provide you with an accurate answer.

  • Where can I find an Apple certified internal hard drive?

I have a December 2006 MacBook Pro that I upgraded RAM and hard drives (twice) from OWC. After having Apple replace the display and the motherboard (again twice) I've been having boot problems. My local Genius Bar told me to replace the RAM with my original RAM and see if it solves the problem.
Well, it seems to solve it, but my internal HD shows up as "Failing" in disk utility. I cleaned off my original 120GB HD and installed the OS (Snow Leopard) and whenever it's plugged into firewire, the system will boot automatically to it rather than the internal drive.
There's an Apple logo on the original drive, so there's something about it that the Mac likes. There seems to be something to the "official" Apple hardware deal.
My problem is that the Apple Store doesn't seem to sell either internal drives for notebooks or memory for MacBook Pros as old as mine.
I can take it back to the Genius Bar to find out if they can sell me the right stuff without having to install it themselves, but I'd much rather do it myself, so I don't have to let go of my computer, which I use every day.
Any thoughts? Apparently I can't trust the hardware that OWC sells. Does this make any sense?

Where can I find an Apple certified internal hard drive?
    At Apple
But if you want to spend less ..... OWC have a great selection and are very Mac Friendly

  • Does the Apple Certified Associate test cover new elements of FCPX 10.0.7?

I'm teaching a High School class in video production and am trying to prepare then to take the Apple Certified Associate test before they graduate. We have gone from 10.03 to 10.05 & finally have 10.0.7 on our MacPros. FCPX 10.0.7 has a number of new features from the 10.0.5 version.
Does the online Associate exam cover the new features?
    Thanks,

But Apple has not given any official announcement yet.  In the past, tests sometimes didn't update for a few weeks after the book release.  But if you're ready for 10.0.7, you should be able to figure out legacy questions.

  • Apple certified cords for iphone 5 now giving me error, one is brand new from apple store, what is fix

I have three apple certified cords and all are giving me errors not certified. What is fix?

If you got them from a real Apple Store they are covered by warranty. Take it back and get a free replacement.
Of course, it could be that the cables are OK but you have a defective charger (if you are getting errors while charging)

  • Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync with BMW car's COMBOX

My recently purchased Apple certified cable for AV RCA out and USB sync works very well with the PC and TV. I bought it to connect to my BMW car's COMBOX interface which is designed to connect to Apple products.
It doesn't even power up and BMW fails to recognize iPod, same combox works well with the original usb sync cable which came with the iPod but that doesn't have AV out so can't play music and video to the head unit. I think this could be due to low power coming from the car's USB, am I right to think this? If yes what options have I got to fix this? Can I supply additional power to iPod?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I'm afraid that's to be expected in most cases, you need to turn your TV speakers off.

  • Don't understand how Apple's 'status' page works

There are literally thousands of users complaining about Facetime being broken over the last eight days.
Apple's only response seems to be "update your software".
However, many iOS 7 users are also complaining about broken Facetime, even AFTER updating.
So, the question is - what does Apple's status-page actually represent, since it lists Facetime as being green and regular.
    Confused...

Well then, if that's the official statment - i.e. iOS 6 users who DON'T want to upgrade at this time to iOS 7, well, Facetime will no longer be available to you.
Their quote: "If you're using iOS 7.0.4 or later or iOS 6.1.6, this issue doesn't affect you."
I don't think iOS 6.1.6 was ever made available for iPad users, was it?
If I am interpreting that correctly, I imagine my spouse and I will begin to look for a comptetitors brand of tablet,
since we really don't like iOS 7 very much, mainly because with our iPad 2 and 3, the update really slows the ipad down significantly.  Those with iPad 4's and up will be fine.
My iPad 3 is 16 months old.  Paid nearly $700 for it.  16 months old, and I can't run the OS I purchased (if it came with iOS 7, I may not have actually bought it).  $700 obsolete in 16 months.
Sad, but if that's the case, not much iOS 6 users can do.

  • Apple TV status light blinking white

My apple TV status light is blinking white and the TV gets no signal.  I have re-booted the apple tv and it gives me the sign to plug it into iTunes.  I cannot do that as it has no USB connection so I am bit lost.  I also have no idea how to tell which  generation Apple TV I have.  I have had it for a few years and finally had a reason to use it.  I am pretty sure it is a 2G, but I am not sure.  It worked when I initially set it up for a few minutes then required a software upgrade and everything went downhill after that.  Any suggestions?  Is it garbage?

I cannot do that as it has no USB connection
Yes it does.  Its on the back.
The upgrade process failed for some reason.  It just needs to be connected to iTunes via a USB cable so iTunes can manually install the firmware.

  • Is the apple router really worth it?

it is time to upgrade my router. I have an older linksys 802llb. Originally I had my heart set on going all apple but at almost $200 vs about $50 for a non apple version I am wondering if it makes a difference and if the apple router is worth the more $$$ and why.

    sseligson wrote:

    Yes.
    or
    No.
Depends on your personal needs and perspectives.
Personally I love the style and ease of configuration of the Apple base stations.
However non-Apple routers are relatively easy to configure as well.
Printing and sharing hard drives certainly adds value to the 802.11n Airport Extreme, whilst AirTunes is a nice feature on the Airport Express.
In the end only you can decide.
Question, did you buy the cheapest computer you could buy, or were there other factors which influenced your purchasing decision?

  • Who are Apple Certified Engineers? +1-877-340-9184 (Toll Free)?

I've had my MacBook Pro screen lock up and this weird window shows up:

    Safari - Alert
Suspicious Activity Might be Detected In your Browser.  Your Browser might have been hijacked and
suspicious activity been detected.  To get it fix please call Apple Certified Engineers on +1-877-340-9184 (Toll Free)
    OK
I have had to Force Quit Safari and Restart mynotebook to get rid of the window pop-up.  Please help! How can I clean up my computer of all these strange pop-ups?

This is a scam. Do not call the number or you will find yourself connected to a Ukrainian identify thief. The following is useful:
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and AdwareMedic.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • I want an Apple Certified large capacity drive for 2008 Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro (early 2008) filled with all Apple Certified hard drives in it.
I want to put the largest available Apple Certified hard disk drive into one of the bays.
Apple won't sell me a drive. They say I have to bring in the computer and have their service people insert a new drive.
So... They have the drives. They just insist that they... not I... do the replacement and charge me for the drive and installation.
Three of the drives were replaced BY ME at various times since I bought the computer in 2008. They sold me those drives over the counter in my local Apple Store a few miles from my house.
How can I duplicate that without losing custody of my computer for days while they put in the new drive?
    Suggestions:
Can I take out ALL the drives, leave them home, and bring in the empty chassis to let them put the new drive?
Can I take out one of the "shells" that hold drives, empty it of its current drive, then take them that shell and have them populate it?
    What are my options?

Memory lane.... ? "Once upon a time, far and long ago... disk drives and controllers had to be closely mated and sourced..."
SCSI drives and controllers, and later SAS, you could make an argument - maybe - and buying a set of drives, with extra spares for later when one of them failed.
Enter stage right: DIY and CIP
SATA drives are off the shelf. OEM does not matter in a system that does not use specialized hardware RAID
SSD drives can require firmware for compatibility so I could make an argument for an Apple SSD which were offered as BTO and because TRIM on 3rd party devices - because OS X looks for an ID in the product string to say "I am an Apple SKU" or not, and that is the beginning and end of that, and only matters with Yosemite for all intents and purposes.
So then you can read up on StorageReview.com and others and see what the Leaderboard has to say as well as elsewhere as far as what storage devices.
But no matter what, the same age old wisdom of having system  drive, data, scratch (for those large database sorts and such or editing in graphics and video), backup (so it is online). System = small and fast, 15K SCSI no longer being king, it is now PCIe-SSDs that offer 10x or more faster, and 0.01 nanoseconds delay in seeks and latency with large queue depth for multiple IO's. The ability to load and read lots of files at 1000MB/sec or faster is perfect for system, and writes of 900MB/sec and above don't hurt.
Then use 4TB drives for data, cheap large and still fast and outstanding.
APPLE HAS NEVER UPDATED THE DRIVE COMPATIBILITY SPECS when new drives become available, leading people to mistakenly think or ask and wonder "can my Mac use drives larger than ______ (where 750GB was the largest capacity and was for some odd reason listed as such) instead of something like "SATA II and higher" Where SATA 3.1 (?) is the current version and is backward compatible.
PCIe devices are often listed as "PCIe 2.x" or 3.0 and my Samsung XP941 with Lycom adapter is nice enough to list and state that while it is PCIe 3.0 compliant it also supports and backward compatible with PCIe 1.0 and above. It won't get the same bandwith/performance in PCIe 1.0 - 2.0 but it works perfectly.
The firmware of controllers determine support, and sometimes though less and almost unheard of with standard "rotating spindle" disk drives (NAS and hardware RAID being the exception that makes the rule).
SSD has changed and evolved faster than anything I have ever seen in computer technology and storage specifically. A year seems like a lifetime in evolution. And yet... my old 2006 (turns 9 in August) was discovered to fully support PCIe-SSD like the latest device in the nMP and the XP941. Amazing but I guess Intel knew something when it designed the SkullTrail systems and EFI 1.0 back in 2005. So the latest SSD tech is supported in a 1,1 (thru 5,1) running Leo or higher.
There have been issues with the size and screw holes of 4-8TB drives (and yes you can use those too). And when Apple created Fusion drives for the iMac and had trouble with Windows Boot Camp the changes in formatting using Disk Utility turned into a Windows XP 32-bit problem formatting drives larger than 2.2TB in Mountain Lion 10.8.4 and above. I am still scratching my head over that one. Even as it was documented and confirmed. (And no it does not reflect on 3rd party or only with drives that are not labelled Apple OEM
Others can probably make a shorter more succinct case without the long history and rambling my prose is given to as I wonder around in the cobwebs

  • Apple Super drive - worth it?

I have an IMAC - is an Apple Super Drive worth it or are there any alternatives?

The Apple external optical drive ONLY works with Macs that do NOT come with an internal optical drive, any longer.
It can be made to work with older Macs through a system file hack, but there are better drives than Apple's own optical drive offering.
Not all optical drives are Mac compatible.
Most Mac compatible drives you will only find to be purchased online.
Here are two on Amazon.com that are cheap and Mac compatible

Here's another source for Mac compatible optical drives. These are better quality optical drives.
These are also tray loading drives.
Tray loaning drives are, usually, better made, more robust drives that will last longer than the thin, slot loading type.
