Suddenly my husbands old iPod mini is not recognized despite cable changes, restart of iTunes, and computer. Can get it to recognize my classic iPod. He has not done a update of this mini in a longtime I think. I followed all the hints Apple posts to get an unrecognized device to register...this is on a Mac using Yosemite up to date on everything

I used Quicktime extensively for my research before upgrading to Mavericks, and now that these older codecs have been removed, none of my experimental videos taken over the past 5 years will play in Quicktime. This is extremely disappointing.
I'd like to gather as much user support as possible to request that Apple restore support for these older codecs.
PLEASE RESPOND ON THIS THREAD BY ADDING YOUR REQUEST FOR APPLE TO RESTORE SUPPORT FOR OLDER CODECS.
FYI, my video files were .avi format, recorded by a Nikon D300s and a Zeiss EVO 55 scanning electron microscope.Some things can be converted without transforming the data. I have data in Excel spreadsheets that is identical to the data in the Lotus Symphony spreadsheets in which I entered the data in 1986. Converting video does involve data transformation which is undesirable unless it comes to a point where it is unavoidable. Speaking as a research scientist, one is obligated to try to preserve original data to a reasonable extent. In this case the video is not "dead". It can still be played. It's just Apple's behavior that anything older than about 4 years is old-fashioned and to be forgotten that's mandating stepping outside Apple software to do so. Yes, it would be a good idea to convert so when future upgrades mean no old codecs will play at least the data are available to some degree. I still would not get rid of the old files since they are the original data, and if the person spends 30 seconds installing VLC player they can still view the original data for another 10 years at least (if they keep the computer that long -- my computer is 12 years old and I can still run applications on it dating from the early 1990s).
By the way, you can still buy VHS players. I agree they will not be around forever, and if it's a family video you want to play 20 years from now then you may as well convert it now, but then that's not research evidence.
Optical media are dead at Apple, but still extensively used outside Apple. I agree in 20 years it will be hard to find a DVD player but visit right now any store selling movies or music, or a public library, and optical media are still around. Apple can force the issue where their hardware is involved, especially as regards to installing Apple software, and of course by pushing online media sales (if you buy from the iTunes Store, which I don't). -
Ridiculous lack of support for older iPod accessories
After thoroughly enjoying my iPod mini through 4 years and two batteries, I decided it was time to finally upgrade to a nano. I'm starting to think that was a big mistake. Despite an amazing screen, great functionality, and excellent storage capacity, the brand may forever be tarnished now by the fact that my new iPod did not work properly with any iPod accessory I owned. Apparently, everything I owned used firewire based charging, and Apple has dropped support of this capacity. This means my neither my $200 iPod speakers nor my $200 car integration will charge my new iPod. I used to think the iPod was an icon of the industry. I used to feel confident buying accessories, knowing they would integrate seemlessly with my iPod. Now I feel like the iPod is just another scam, with Apple's only interest being to make a buck. I will definitely never purchase another iPod accessory again, and will probably not purchase or recommend an iPod to anyone unless this problem is fully resolved.

Why no firewire support for new iPods?
If firewire is so much better and faster why did the geniuses at Apple decide to discontinue support for it? It took me over 30 minutes to upload music & videos to my new iPod w/ USB, which would have taken 5-10 minutes with Firewire. I don't get it!
They did it because they obviously didn't see the need for it.
Either you have a usb 1.1 port, or have about 500mb of music. The speeds aren't that different between USB2.0 and FW. In fact, i think USB is faster. Stop complaining here, this is only a user-user support forum. -

This app offered great features such as the ability to format your pictures and journal and, add comments and context.
It's disappointing to be forced to migrate away especially when this is a paid app ($4.99). Many other companies may stop supporting paid apps, but at least you can still use the apps.Apple did not say why, so we can only speculate.

The basic frameworks, that support image editing apps and any graphics apps have been completely replaced by newer frameworks, for example PhotoKit. Also, the Photos.app and its library are very different, with the Camera Roll being replaced by the "Recent Activity" album.
iPhoto used "Photos" to access all photos on the device and did not them separately. The code would have needed to be completely rewritten. Probably, Apple did not want to develop iPhoto a second time, in addition to the new "Photos", but is relying on the third party developers to supplement Photos with extensions:

Developers can enable their photo apps to edit photos directly in the Camera Roll without having to import them first.
Photo Editing
Developers can embed their filters and editing tools directly into the Photos app. So you could apply third‑party effects to images without leaving the app where you view your photos. -

That is/was my thinking. When I spoke to a Canon printer tech rep before submitting the question to the Apple Support Community he indicated that Canon no longer provided drivers for one of the older Canon printers I own but noted that some computer companies provide "mini drivers" for some of their printers. He may have been blowing smoke. But not all was lost. Additional research introduced me to a software company that provides printer drivers to the Apple/Mac community. The company is PrintFab. I signed up for the 30 day trial and will be paying for the permanent software version before the trial is up. My 15 year old Canon BJC-85 couldn't be happier and I do not need to get a new portable printer. And no, I do not have any relationship with PrintFab. I hope my reply is helpful to others.

How do I create one Apple ID and iTunes user name and password for all of my Apple products: iPad, iPhone, and iPod plus iTunes on my PC?
Yes, I do have multiple devices and it appeared to me that every time I tried to sync or log onto iTunes, the password was incorrect. Consequently, I was and am constantly changing it. Wouldn't it be nice if Apple would simply say that you only need one Apple ID and one password regardless of the number of Apple devices you intend to sync via iTunes.
Barring the above, how about a way to merge all of the Apple IDs and passwords into one. -
Did Apple remove support for DNG files generated out of Capture One?
I use Capture One to convert my Leica Dlux-4 RAW files into DNG format and then use Aperture2.1.4 as my photo processing tool.
After I ran the latest OS update - Aperture gives a "Unsupported file format" message for all the DNG files.
Is it possible that Apple removes support for photo formats in the OS updates?
Anyone encountered the same issue and found a solution?
ThxGo in the adjustment tab, and the first thing you'll see under the histogram is "Raw fine tuning". By default, "2.0" is selected. When importing DNG, you can switch it to "2.0 DNG" this is used to read DNGs from cameras Aperture doesn't support.
Maybe the update made it go back to its default "2.0" while before you where on "2.0 DNG". If I'm right, setting it to "2.0 DNG" will fix the problem.
P.S. sorry if I said "raw precision" instead of "Raw fine tuning" in the first place. My Aperture is in French and the name in French is "Réglage de précision raw" and I did a bad translation.

I need help! I got my new iPod and I need to install iTunes on my laptop because I didn't have it before. I install it and I go to open it and it says "Apple Application Support was not found. Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again." I've done that three times and it does the same thing... WHAT DO I DO???
Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?

I have a G5 and iBook with PowerPC/iTunes 10....just recently I can't bring up the preset Internet radio on either one. Is this a glitch, or have they been permanently disabled for older versions of iTunes?
I should have posted this for you a while ago. My apologies for not doing it sooner. This was passed on to me by another user R C-R
He deserves the credit for this workaround. This is his post from an area in the forum where you have to be level 6 or higher in which to participate.
I am getting the same (global) error using iTunes 10.3.1 on a 2008 MacBook running 10.6.8.
A really, really awkward workaround that works for me (for now) is if you have the URL of the Internet radio server you can go to Advanced > Open Stream... (in iTunes 10.x) or type command + U, enter it there & click OK. The station should play fine in 10.x.
You can get the URL from any version of iTunes that still supports the "radio tuning service" (which I gather is an Apple server thing Apple is no longer supporting for 10.x). Play the station normally from the newer version & type command + I to open the info window. At the bottom of the "Summary" tab you will see the URL. (Annoyingly, you can't copy the text so you will have to write it down.)
Once you have that, you can play the station in 10.x & add it to a playlist for future use.
To check this out, maybe try http://198.27.80.37/stream/mbarsott.pls -- it is a European Jazz station that works fine for me with iTunes 10.3.1.
This workaround does work, but is a bit cumbersome. I'm still holding out hope that it is just a glitch. -
I have instlled and uninstalled iTunes on multiple occasions but iTunes fails to start with message "Apple Application support is required to run iTunes .......... Error 2 (Windows error 2)". Most most frustrating. Can anyone help, pleeeeeeease!!

I just resolved this on Win Vista (should apply equally for Win7 too). Please uninstall iTunes before proceeding though. I'll walk you through the process I followed, if you like you can jump straight to the Solution section.
Problems:
The initial error during the installation of iTunes was:

The error (after installing iTunes) when trying to run iTunes was:
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again. Error 2 (Windows error 2).
After trying various fixes around the forums I came across this MSKB article, which relates to the first installation error:

This lead me to trying to install MS Visual C++ but I received the following error trying to install that:

I opened the registry and (as instructed in the MSKB article) deleted the following keys:

AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving
Reboot and reinstall iTunes.

I've tried uninstalling it and installing it several times. I've tried to download Apple Application Support separately but it just says:

You need to repair your computer so it can run iTunes. If you plug those error codes into your browser you may get an answer. -
I need to transition my 1st Generation Apple TV from an older instance of iTunes on my iBook to a new instance of iTunes on my new Mac... How do I get the 5 digit Network code to come back? Is there anyway for 1st Generation Apple TV to be synched to two instances of iTunes or do I have to choose one or the other? I appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanks!
The 5 digit code is every time different. That does not matter. Just integrate every device into your network.
You can connect many computers to Apple TV but syncronisation works exactly with one computer. That's why I use "streaming". But you can sync one computer, then another, and so on. The content on your Apple TV is the content from your computer that has synced last. But you can not mix it.
The new Apple TV has no syncronisation. Everything is streamed,
