Is apple responsible for inadvertant deletion of contacts database?

To reset my iPhone5, I must proceed through several sophisticated confirmations before the reset will proceed.
Today, I discovered that my contacts have all been removed without my knowledge,
within the space of an hour while my iphone5 was locked in my pocket.
How can this be?
I do not recall entering any confirmations.
Are my Contacts really gone ?
I can see my Recent Calls. I can even edit, save, and email them one at a time, to myself. A wonderful way to spend 5 or 6 hours.
Do these not live in the Contacts Database?
Is there some more efficient means of saving/exporting the Recent Calls ?

Are you certain your contacts are really gone?  Is it possible that your contacts were (are) stored in iCloud and you have severed your iPhone's connection to your iCloud?
Check Settings > iCloud and make sure your Apple ID shows at the top, and, if you ever had contacts in iCloud, turn Contacts "On" there.

  • HT4528 My daughter got an iphone.  She set up her phone using my apple ID.  She deleted all contacts she did not recognize.  Now, over 100 of my contacts are gone.  Is it possible she deleted them from the cloud and they are gone forever?

My daughter got an iphone.  She set up using my apple ID.  She deleted all the contacts that appeared on her phone and now they seem to be gone completely.  Is it possible that she deleted contacts from the cloud?  Are they permanently gone?

The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.

  • HT4859 I inadvertently deleted iphone contacts thru Outlook. I have a backup on icloud. How do I retreive the contacts?

I read the instructions about restoring to a new iPhone. But, I do not see how to selectively restore content. I am not showing two backup in my backup list. The new back up does not have these needed contacts. The old backup does. What should I do?

You cannot selectively restore files from an icloud backup.  It's all or nothing.
If the old backup does not show, then for whatever reason it's no longer available.

  • Is there any way to recover your contacts and notes in the event you inadvertently delete them?

I inadvertently deleted my contacts and notes from my iphone 3G in an attempt to synch to Microsoft Outlook Calendar and E-mail accounts.

    Have a look at this...

Look at the bottom for instructions on restoring from a previous back up

  • Can I have one Apple ID for personal (music) and one for work (syncing contacts and mail)  on the save device

Between my husband and I we have 6 devices and we are only allowed to share our Apple ID across 5.  Some of the devices are for music and outlook and some are just for music - can I have a separate Apple ID for my mail and contacts.  ie. Can you use two different Apple ID's on the same device?

Oh maybe ipads and iphones aren't counted in the five

  • Apple Script for deleting podcasts

I subscribe to a lot of podcasts, but I don't want to keep them in my iTunes library after I'm done listening to them. Is there an Apple Script for automatically deleting podcasts? Thanks.

Thanks - once I'm in Automator and select Music, I don't see any options for finding Podcasts. Any suggestions which item/step I should select next in Automator? Thanks.

Hi, we have three iPhones and iPods which are currently linked to one apple ID.  I have now set up an apple id for each phone/iPod.  How do I go about re-directing the two accounts to the relevant one that has now been set up please?  I could do with a step by step guide to follow as am worried about loosing aps, music, photo's etc which are on the individual phones.
    Thanks
    Mandi

On each of the phones you're gonna use a new Apple ID for iCloud: turn off Contacts, Calendars, etc. for iCloud. You'll be prompted to keep the data or delete it from the phone, then turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, setup iCloud using the new Apple ID, turn on iMessage & Facetime.
This will have no affect on the ID you share for iTunes content, & you can continue to do so.

  • Preparing  Apple TV for restore

I received a second Apple TV (2nd Generation) for x-mas and I am trying to update/restore the software from iTunes using a micro-usb cord, however, when I begin the restore process in iTunes it "hangs" in the stage called "Preparing Apple TV for restore." I contacted Apple support and the said to plug in the power power supply after plugging in the mico-USB, does anyone know if this solves the problem? Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I cannot do this via WI-FI because all I see is the iTunes symbol & the micro-USB cable.
    Thanks

    Winston,
That is what I thought! Do you or anyone else know if you can "bypass" the screen on the Apple TV where the iTunes Icon & mini-USB cord appear? I have read through some posts where people describe it being easier to update via WI-FI on the Apple Tv itself.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Deleting an account from a device will not delete the information from the account, if that is what you are asking.

  • HT204150 mayday.....I inadvertly erased my contacts when I deleted them from my old phne and now my new phone contacts are gone

mayday....I inadvertly erased my contacts when I deleted them from my old phone and now my contacts in my new phone is empty.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Do you have a back up taken prior to deleting them.
To restore from a back up made through iTunes, follow these instructions.
To restore from a back up made through iCloud, try the following:
The difficulty in restoring iCloud data from a back up is that the back up is older than the current version on iCloud and anything that is restored gets removed again when an iCloud sync occurs.
Ensure the device is connected to your local network.
Start the restore from iCloud back up.
Allow the devices settings to restore (watch for the confirmation of completion).
As the apps begin to restore pull the connection to your router WAN port (the one that goes to the telephone point).
Wait for the time out confirmation.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn off contact syncing (keep contacts when prompted).
Reconnect the router to the internet and let the restore process complete.
Delete any iCloud contacts from iCloud.com on a computer.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn on contact syncing (merge contacts when prompted).
May I suggest that you carry out a back up to iTunes before you try anything, that way should things become even worse, you can at least restore back to where you are now.

  • How to create an Apple ID for 10 year old? and retrieve old contacts?

Hi, my daughter and I have just got our new iPhones but I can´t create and Apple ID för her so she can´t use the ICloud service. So I tried using the one I created for myself resulting in that all my contacts apeared in her phone. What should we do?
Apple how about letting parents confirm the Apple ID for their kid but it should be created with the kids name and birthday how difficult can it be? am I the first mum who bought and Iphone for my kid?
And by the way how do we get access to all the old contacts stored on the SIM card from our preIPhone time? I thought that everything just work with Apple but I am beginning to think that I should have choosen and Android... I mean changing brand of phone doesn´t exactly mean that you want to cut contact with all your old friends...are there a solution that I havn´t figured out?
Maybe someone could make an App that emulates a SonyEricsson or Nokia so that you can retrive your old data?

You can delete the iCloud account from her phone by going to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and choose Delete Account.  I believe you will get a prompt asking if you want to remove or keep the data on the phone; if you don't want your contacts on her phone choose delete.  As far as the contact on your old SIM card, if it is the same size as the iPhone SIM card you can put it in the iPhone and import the contacts (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4994).  If the SIM card won't fit, then you would need to either export the contacts to your computer using appropriate software, upload your contacts to a cloud service so you can download them to your computer, or in some cases take it and your iPhone to your retailer and ask them if they can do the transfer for you.  (It's also possible to cut a SIM card down to fit but it can be tricky to get it right.  There are articles on this if you search with Google.)  This video might help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypZpYNpfa9E.

  • HT204053 i used the same apple id for my iphone and my husbands now all our contacts and such are on both phones how do i fix this.  I dont need his contacts on my phone and the other way also.  Should i create a different icloud account for his phone?

I used the same apple id for my iphone and my husbands now all our contacts and such are together.  How do I undo this?  Do i create him a different icloud account?

Yes, start with deleting your account on his device:
(Settings > iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Your Account)
In the next step, create a new account on his device:
(Settings > iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Your Account)

I've an apple ID used to buy off iTunes and a mobileme account for the calendars and contacts. How can I move the calendars and contacts to the older apple ID and use it for iCloud?

If you remeber the password to that Apple ID then follow these steps
1 - Make sure you have an email address that is NOT an Apple ID
    2 - Go to AppleID.Apple.com
3 - Where it reads Manage Apple ID - Sign in
Once you are signed in want to make sure the email address you are wanting to use is NOT set up as a "Recovery/Rescue" email for this account.
[To check this - Main page where you see Primary ID - below do you see the email address you want to use listed towards the bottom? Yes - Delete / No - Good ./. If made any adjustments "Save" Next on the left select "Password & Security" - Answer your security questions you set up "if you have any" then scroll towards the bottom and check to see if you see the email address you want to use. Yes - Delete / No - Good] <-> Also you can change your password on this page as well. Any adjustments made "Save"
Once this is done go back to the main page where you should read "Primary ID" and change the email address that is showing to the new email address youo want. "Save" Done
I learned this not to long ago and worked for me. Hope this helps you!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You can only restore them from a Computer backup. This has occurred because you are sharing an iCloud account. ideally you should each have your own iCloud account, that way you can each manage your own mail, contacts, calendars, documents etc and avoid unintentional deletions and unwanted editing. If there is information you wish to share between you, this can be done with a secondary account.
Having separate iCloud accounts, doesn't mean you have to have separate iTunes accounts, so whilst you keep your personal data separate, you can continue to share music, apps, books, TV shows, movies etc.
