Is apple still supporting mac pro

It seems as if Apple has forgotten about the Mac Pro. Are they still going to support and update this machine?

Still selling them, at least here in Toronto:

Use the Software Update and you can find it.  Or...

With the current up coming addition of Maverick OS will Apple still support and put out Updates out for Mountain Lion? I want to make sure my computer will still be secured.

I'm sure that Apple will continue to provide support for Mountain Lion and other previous versions of their operating system. They have always provided updates for most versions of their software, even though newer versions were released.

  • Two Apple Displays and Mac Pro - How To Set Up?

Hello! My boyfriend surprised me yesterday with a second 23" Apple HD Display! Fed Ex delivered it and I had no idea it was coming! Before I take the plunge I need to know how to set it up so it works as with my current Mac Pro and 23" display so that they work together, as one big screen. I have the ATi X1900 graphics card with 512mg of RAM and two DVI ports and assume that will be sufficient to run both displays.
Is it possible to use them as one large screen? If so, how do I set that up? If I just plug it in and restart, will the two screens work as one or as separate screens?
    Thanks!
    Lisa

I did the same thing last night, and if you haven't just plugged it in already, it's really as simple as that.
I get a little video glitch on my main startup screen when I'm booting up, but otherwise it just works smoothly. Plug it in, and go.

  • Does Apple sell the mac pro box for shipping a mac pro to a new address

I am being relocated across the country, USA, by my employer. And need to ship my Mac Pro to the new location. Does Apple or any commercial supplier provide a Mac Pro Specific shipping box that can be bought. I.E. that has all the correct foam and spacers for the tower. Thanks.
    Raul

Now is a great time to consider the cost of shipping a 65lb (or more) item all across the country Vs the cost of selling your old Mac and buying a new one when you get there.
The 2009 and later models Geekbench at nearly twice the speeds of the 2008 and previous (at same number of processor and nominal speeds). This is mainly due to Muti-Threading and memory improvements. The memory for the newer models is MUCH cheaper if you need to add on.
I suggest you cost out the shipping, then ask then for that amount toward a system upgrade when you arrive. Or check carefully whether you need to provide documentation of actual shipping or whether estimates will do.

  • Does Yosemite support mac pro duel monitors?

Does Yosemite on early 2008 mac pro support duel monitors to the extent to make one desk top?

as long as that box is checked, each display is independent.
If you want the original "Extended Desktop":
    Uncheck the box
close the preference pane or switch to another and save changes.

  • Apple RAID card Mac Pro adding capacity

    Greetings
Do any of you know how to incorporate an additional HD into a RAID 5 setup on a Mac Pro?
I have a Mac Pro running 10.5.6 Server, RAID 5 composed of 3 1TB drives. I would like to add a 4th drive. Can I? I installed the drive in the bay, and created a spare using RAID Utility. I would now like to know if I can bring it into my existing RAID. Having a spare is nice, but I really want to get more space for storage.
    -n

Sounds good. Here is a related question. I have this RAID card in my home office. I do IT work, so a while back, I wanted to get a RAID card when I bought my machine so that I could play with it and get a grip on it before I rolled it out to clients.
My electric bill seems to be enormously out of proportion, and I am suspecting that it is my Mac Pro. I never turn it off, and sleep is not supported with the RAID card.
The question is, how much power consumption are we talking about in practical terms with this card. There are 4 drives in RAID 5. I am thinking that the Mac Pro is going to have to lose the RAID card to save my utility bill. Anybody have a link to the white paper for the RAID card and Mac Pro?

  • Does Apple still support sending them generated problem reports?*

Computer creates report when system fails. It has a "Send to Apple" button. When I select it, the beach ball whirls a few times, but all I get is an ERROR message.

I have seen that as well, lots of times.
My conclusion is that they are no longer interested in problem reports on software or versions of OS X that are no longer supported, i.e. PPC Macs and software only written for the PPC platform.
So, if you have a problem, post it here and we will try to help!

  • TS2948 Does apple still support the MacBook Air 2008 models?

Recentely, my MacBook Air's(2008) hinge has become very loose and have very little positions the hinge can stand on. So I took a look inside to see that the hinges is slightly out of place(and also from the outside you can clearlly see a small crack) and I thought about replacing it myself, but it seemed a little advance for me since i'm really not the type of dismanteler and i'm not really organized. So i was wondering, if i bring my MacBook Air into a apple store, would they still fix it or will they say they don't fix these, I just don't want to waste my time going to the apple store considering they're really far away from where I live at. Also, how much would you infer they would charge me? Thanks, Kyle

Do you have an update? I recently brought mine in for a battery bulging problem and they wont fix it because they no longer make the battery for it. They did however kept the battery for safety concern and left me with a battery-less MBA. I didn't realize the hinge was covered by Apple and tought it was a defect. The MBA is so old I didn't think to bring it in for that. Let me know if you have any success with yours. Thanks.

  • Original Apple SSD for Mac Pro Identification

Anyone can tell the technical data and name of original SSD (256/512gb)
Someone tells that it was toshiba, someone that original intel....where is the truth?

you want to buy an SSD? then look at the reviews or just get Samsung 840 or EVO.
Apple use to use both you mention based on storage size and Toshiba were slow and all smaller SSDs have fewer channels.
Whatever they used you can get 500GB Samsung $319 today.
And there are other uses, for graphic catalogues, scratch.

  • Support for mac pro

I am told that Apple is not supporting Mac Pro from now on
If this short-sighted abandoning of the professional creative communities is true, what recommendations are there for bullet proof Mac systems from 2012 onwards?
Picture editors, recording and post production studios, design studios, composers all need a top end machine with an open architecture and no 'designed-in' constraints which feature on all other current Macs.
Are we back with the build your own approach of a PC?
    Any insights welcome
    Ian

there are good reasons for wanting to sustain and renew Mac Pro systems.
And that is exactly what will happen.
Power: Although the iMac is an extremely powerful machine in its own right, the Mac Pro's performance still kicks the iMac's butt all the way up and down the block. Benchmark performance in Geekbench shows the 12-core 2.93 GHz Mac Pro coming in with an astounding score of 21,789. That's nearly twice the 11,581 score earned by the most powerful iMac, a quad-core 3.4 GHz model.
Benchmarks only tell part of the story, however. A Mac Pro that's been maxed-out on Apple's online store with as much RAM and hard disk capacity as you can shove into it is a Godzilla of a machine:
        •    Two 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processors (for a total of 12 cores)
        •    8 TB of internal storage
        •    64 GB of RAM
        •    Two ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1 GB of video RAM -- each.
The best you can do with an iMac via Apple's configuration options?
        •    3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
        •    2 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD
        •    16 GB RAM
        •    AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 2 GB of video RAM
The top-end iMac is an incredibly powerful machine by consumer and even professional standards, but a fully-upgraded Mac Pro is practically ostentatious in the amount of raw processing power it can wield. Professional consumers in areas like 3D rendering, video editing, and other extremely processor-intensive applications surely appreciate the much greater power the Mac Pro can afford them.
    Customization:
The Mac Pro stomps the iMac in the customization department. Folding down the Mac Pro's side door gives you easy and almost instant access to its innards, and virtually every component is simple to swap out. Hard drives in particular are extraordinarily easy to swap in the Mac Pro.
Contrast that with the iMac, where the RAM is essentially the only user-serviceable component. Swapping out the hard drive on an iMac is a harrowing procedure that requires removing the entire front display -- not something you're going to want to do more than once, if ever. You could argue that the iMac's Thunderbolt capability vastly expands its customization options (and I will, later on), but it still doesn't quite measure up to the amount of customization available to a Mac Pro.
