Is apple tv worth getting?

Is apple tv worth getting?

Apple Tv is a great product from the hardware point of view, now, SADLY it is very limited by software.
for example:
you can not install any stream app from the sources you like, there are great free and legitimate tv channels out there, offering streaming through apps, instead apple limits you to watch Wall street journal, (probably their most discusting feature) why they do that? They seem more interested in selling their itunes inventory than to provide a decent service for the user.
If you like youtube and netflix, thats pretty much all the decent you can get on the apple tv.
The potential is huge, but apple has to open up to developers ASAP and allow users to install streaming apps at least.
games?, browser? that would be too much to ask for.

  • Is it still worth getting one?

I have someone offering a G5 2.0Ghz Dual Processor with a 20in display. The Mac itself is what Im interested in and its in prestine condition. 3 yrs old and used only for graphics design. Has 3GB ram and Im not sure about HDD, but thats no problem. My question is, are they still worth getting? Or should I hold off? Im only using FCP 5.1 for light HD work. Any input would be nice, let me know, thanks!
    GC

If the price is really low, say $600 or less (taking into account the value of the 20-inch display), it may be. Depends what you want to use it for...
It will probably do a better job with FCP than your non-Pro MacBook. With 3GB of RAM, it will run Leopard very well. But if you are still going to be using your MacBook most of the time, the Power Mac G5 is a pretty large hunk of metal to be sitting around taking up space.
I have the last 2.0 GHz model (dual core) from 2005. Someone uses it full-time, and it will be useful for a long time, even if Apple stops supporting it with the latest OS release. But I got it three years ago. I don't think I would get one now.

  • Does anyone know how to reload Java SE 6 back into Lion until Apple and Oracle get it together?

Does anyone know how to reload Java SE 6 back into Lion until Apple and Oracle get it together?

See the following, with all of its caveats:
    http://managingosx.wordpress.com/2013/01/31/disabled-java-plugins-xprotect-updat er/
For what it's worth, I am not using this method, nor am I re-enabling Java until Oracle comes out with a fix. I also won't be available to advise you on troubleshooting this method.

  • Is it worth getting a 3GS now?

    Hello to the Apple community,
I am interested in buying an iPhone. I have been wanting one ever since the original was released and my brother got his 3G yesterday. Now, the time has come for me to get one.
However, can I get some genuine opinions as to whether it would be worth getting an iPhone 3GS at this time? With the iPhone 4 OS having just been released - and looking amazing - I am just wondering whether there is a new iPhone model around the corner and whether there is any point buying a 3GS.
Any advice and points of view would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I understand that the software will be compatible with the 3GS, tal.
However, I predict that the new generation iPhone will have software and hardware that will be unique to it. Video calling is expected, I believe.
I suppose you have to weigh up if the rumoured video calling is an important feature for you. Also, will the new model of iPhone be more expensive than the present 3GS model, perhaps the price of the 3GS will drop once the new model is released.
Whichever iPhone you get, there will always be another one in the pipeline, its the same for computers and most electrical devices.
If you simple cannot wait, then I would say go for the 3GS. Its still a great device and you will have use of the OS 4 features. I got my 3GS in Sept 2009 and I absolutely love it.
If you can wait till perhaps the summer or even the back end of summer (cause they bound to be stock shortages when the new iPhone is first released) then I would say wait and see what the new iPhone is like. But remember, a new model does not guarantee that it will be an improvement over the older model though, some people might try the new iPhone and say they prefer the 3GS over it.

Water damage isn't covered by warranty, but you could always purchase a refurbished device from Apple.

  • Is the Iphone really worth getting

I know posting this question on the apple section of the Verizon forum might not be the greatest place, but I really want to know if its worth getting. I have to figure you guys will be biased, so I was hoping you can give me a legitimate wow reason as to what makes the iphone better than similar droid phones.
Personally I have never been a big apple user. I have never had an iphone, or Ipad. I have had an ipod for a couple years now and I will say I have nothing but good things to say about it. However I have looked and played around with many of my friends Iphones and personally I cannot see what makes it so special. Granted I understand its like ground zero for smart phones, but today it seems no different than any other smart phone out there. Also, I feel I am somewhat biased against the Iphone because I feel Siri is the beginning of Skynet.
Jokes aside I am considering the switch, so please tell me what makes this phone so special. Thank you for your help.

    Hello Gerio,
It really depends upon the features you want, and what you need the phone to do. I am getting older and can't afford an assistant to help with my memory. Siri is the next best thing. Secondly, I am really intrigued with the advanced abilities of this phone. If I weren't married to a terminally wife, I would not have a landline. She has dementia and cannot learn new things so the "cell phone' is too much for her. Secondly, her emergency medical is attached to the normal landline 911 system. I have had an I phone in the past and was extremely happy with its performance, as well as its environmental footprint. I get so upset when I hear people say that "Apple" is owner of everything, lenux is free and will always be free, and android is based on lenux. Google is propriatory on the android and no one is complaining about that. You even have to have an google based email address for some of the features to work.
Get what you feel you need. Do some research online and make an informed decision.
Take care and as long as you make an informed choice you should be happy with whatever you choose...
I just bought an Iphone 5 btw

  • Worth getting APPLECARE?

i bought my macbook 2 months ago. can i still buy APPLE CARE (3 year extended service)? if yes, is it worth getting APPLECARE?
    please share your experiences. thanks.

You can buy it anytime during the first year. At L A Computer Company they sell it cheaper than apple. I am getting mine from them and other people have gotten from them.
You only have 90 days of complimentary phone support. With Applecare that is extended to the full three years. That alone makes it worth it to me. If you need any repairs after the first year it is a good chance it would cost more than the Applecare.

  • Apple care to get are not?

i would like to know if apple care is worth getting for both my iphones? . any feed back would be nice thank you.

Apple Care is included in Apples limited waranty for the iPhone for 1 year. You can purchase Apple Care and extend the coverage for an additional year making it 2 years. Personally, I will be making my decision whether to get the additional coverage when the end of the first year approaches.
Purchasing it before then doesn't make sense to me.

  • Is Apple Care worth it for me? Retina macbook - please help!

    Hi everyone,
I'm new to Apple having just bought my first Macbook Pro Retina 13 last month and absolutely loving it!
My question is probably very similar to others but I'm finding contradicting answers everywhere - so is Apple Care worth it for me?
If it doesn't include accidental damage, and just software/hardware, then is there any need for me to purchase it in its first year? Or even 2nd year for that matter due to EU consumer laws?
What confuses me is that when I bought my macbook from the apple store, the employee told me a story of how a woman had just bought her retina macbook 2 months before hand & brought it in for repair as the screen had been damaged from her closing her macbook.. but she didn't have apple care so this cost her £800 to replace the screen - ouch!
But if she DID have applecare, how would this even be covered if it's only software & hardware and no accidental damage? Or are they just a bit more lenient when you have apple care?
    Thanks!

Apple makes a profit from AppleCare; otherwise it wouldn't offer the service. On average, buyers lose money on it. Consider whether you can afford to be self-insured for the risk. Make sure you understand that it's a warranty extension and a support contract, not insurance against loss or damage.
If you choose to buy AppleCare, don't buy it at the same time as the Mac, and don't buy it from Apple. Get it from a reputable discounter such as LA Computer anytime before the one-year factory warranty expires.
An exception to the above rule is that if you buy an Apple display together with a Mac, you have to buy AppleCare at the same time in order to get coverage for both.

  • Is the Universal dock and backup battery worth getting?

i am getting an ipod video....is the universal dock worth getting, along with the backup battery pack? i have heard that the batt. pack adds a lot of bulkiness and does not look very good with a black ipod becuase it is white (i am planin on getting a black ipod), and that the dock is only good if you want to charge your ipod standing up.....please give me some info about this!!!!!!

is the universal dock worth getting,
There is only one dock (Apple).
If you want to have a neater/cleaner desktop, it's fine.
along with the backup battery pack
There is no "the" battery pack.
There are a number of battery packs (none by Apple).
If you want extended play time away from all power, they are fine.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

Does it go through properly this time?

  • HT5621 Trying to change the email on my apple ID but get error message that the email I want to change to is already used for notifications. What do I do?

    Hi,
I'm trying to change email address on my Apple ID since the email registered for the account has been hacked and I can't access it anymore. The email I want to change to is connected to another Apple ID I created about 4 years ago, though I successfully changed the email on that account as well. So the email I would like to use for my main Apple ID shouldn't be "locked" anymore.
Though, when trying to change the email on my Apple ID I get an error message (in Swedish, so this is a direct translate from google): "This e-mail address is your email address for notification. It can not be used as the Apple ID or primary email. Choose a different address."
I'm not really sure what this means or how I can fix this. The email address is connected to my Ipad and Iphone for the email app, can that have anything to do with it?
If it makes any difference, I updated both my Ipad3 and Iphone4 to ios 7 today. I'm trying to change from my Macbook air though.
Please advise, would really appreciate a reply ASAP.

It means exactly what it says... The email Address is in Use. You cannot re-use it.

When my husband and I first bought our iPhones, I was the only one with an Apple ID (since he never used iTunes). He used my apple id to get apps. Now he has his own ID, but my apple ID email address keeps popping up on his phone when he tries to download an app. We do not want to have all of the same apps on our phones. How can we change the ID on his phone? I already tried going to Settings>iTunes &App Store> and changing the Apple ID to his account email and that did not solve the problem. To make things worse, I recently changed my Apple ID email address (without getting a new ID) and I do not remember my old password (and this is the address that is popping up on his phone). He does not have any music on his phone and all of the Apps that he has are free.  Any help you could offer would be great (-:

All apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that bought them. To stop your id from popping up, you need to delete the apps on his phone, and then repurchase them under his account.
