Is Apple working on wireless charging?

since i have little hand use, when i'm in dire need of unplugging a device i use my mouth.
i have bent pins and broken apple cords as a result.
i'd like to know if Apple is working on Wireless Charging?
i do believe there's already Wireless Syncing.
i've heard of charging pads that work when you lay a device on them. my devices are in cases, so i'm assuming it would not work.

They're releasing a software developer's kit in Feburary - you should see more applications after that.
Cheers!

  • Lumia 920 not working after wireless charge

This is not my phone specifically, it is a family memers phone on my plan.
So she has had the phone for a month and from what i know, it worked fine no issues.  ATT forgot to order her a wireless charger so they finally did and used it for the first time last night.  Not sure how long she charged, but after chargine, the phone did not work and she could not boot the phone.
I asked her to ry to do a soft reset by holding the volume and middle button, the phone vibrates after 10 seconds, but it shoes a blue screen.  I asked her to do a hard reset wiping everything and starting frrom factory, same thing happens with a blue screen coming on and nothing else.
Im not certain if she had the update either, i doubt she has the update.  Is there a way to get this phone up and running or will i have to do a warranty exchange?
    Thanks

Sounds like you have tried everything, so apart from installing the Portico update that was pushed for AT&T and Rogers devices in the last few days, and checking that she is up-to-date with all the Nokia system app updates in the Store, there is nothing much else that can be done. You most likely will need to take the phone back to the point of purchase and request a replacement, as it sounds it is hardware defective.

  • Wireless Charging Stand NFC Not Working

I am trying to figure out how to configure the NFC for the DT-910 Wireless Charging Stand for my Nokia Lumia 920. It charges fine, but I cannot figure out how to get the NFC to work. When I go to the Accessories Settings, nothing is listed. Do I need to manually download something to do the configuration?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Ok, through trial and search I found the solution!
In the nokia forums, look at this post:
    http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Pool-of-Knowledge/Nokia-Windows-Phone-8-App-Updates/m-p/1640082#M242
    install the lumia pusher
    open the new app
select the “accessories” app and let it install (note the 928 isn’t listed, but it works)
now go to your normal “settings” and scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see “accessories nokia accessories settings”
tap your phone on the base of the stand and it will ask you to run the app (approve). You can make settings changes now for weather, clock, calendar, etc.

  • Wireless charging plates not working

Just received two wrieless charing plates. Despite of the fact that their power adapters are white while they are black (Would be nice if Nokia could match their colors, it isn't so hard and would look much better) none of them seem to be working.
Tried both of them with two different Lumia 920s and nothing happens, no lights or anything. Is there anything I'm missing or did Nokia just sent two deffective units? I find it hard that I was that unlucky.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there mate,
Please check that you have placed the 920 in the correct area against the charger so that they charge. The area of the backside of the 920 that supports the Qi wireless charging is indicated in the user guide. If you have checked everything else, and it still isn't working, then you may have faulty chargers, or the phone's wireless charging function itself may be defective. It would pay to check with the retailer that you purchased the phone / charging plate with, to see if you can get it working in their shops

  • Lumia 920 Wireless Charging not working - Known is...

I have a Nokia Lumia 920, which works perfectly fine. I haven't had some of the other issues reported here with freezing, apps, etc.
I have a Nokia charging plate and I've found that no matter what I do the wireless charging plate absolutely does not work. I've turned off Bluetooth, Wifi, turned ON Battery Saver, disabled every background app, even hard reset my phone and tried charging it from stock. The wireless charging plate doesn't even maintain the current battery state - The battery slowly drains hour by hour. I've also tried placing the phone on the charging plate in different positions to ensure it's making good contact. Nothing works.
Is this a known issue? Is there anyway to identify a defective phone? Is there a possible fix for this? I love my Lumia, but this a killer feature I would expect to work consistently.

OK, this thread is odd. My charging plate works fine. It has a side with a little ring and Nokia in it, and the other side has an oval of rubber around the periphery with the usual conformance writing on it that side Qi, CE, don't throw it on the trash icon,  Mine works just fine with the Oval down, and the Nokia in the ring up. Is that not what others see?
I can turn it over, but it is touchy as to whether I can get the light to come on. Usually not. I assumed, initially, the oval went down to keep it from sliding around on the table, and Nokia went up because they want you to know it's Nokia. Has always worked that way. I wish there was a larger rubber something on the 'top' as the phone can slide and spin more than I think it should.
For what it is worth, I much prefer the charge stand, but the plate is more convenient if I am going to travel somewhere for a while. Couple of days, just charger, week or so, might bring the plate for the hotel.
BTW, I do get the connect noise when putting it on the charge plate. Sometimes it can take a second otr two. When I take it off, it can take several seconds to get the disconnect noise and the charging icon to go away. If I put it back on the charger before the disconnect noise and the charge icon goes away, it does NOT make a connect noise, though the light comes on. The light will also eventually go off at full charge.

  • Nokia Wireless Charging Plate not working

I got a free wireless charging plate through AT&T when I bought my Lumia 920 and the other day I woke up to find that my phone had not charged while laying on it overnight.
The LED indicator on the plate blinks rapidly, which according to the manual means there was some kind of charging error, but there doesn't seem to be any way of fixing or resetting it. It just blinks whether the phone is on it or not and no matter how many times I unplug it and plug it back in, it just blinks and will not charge my phone anymore.
It sat on my nightstand next to my bed and has never been abused or had anything happen to it that might have made it stop working, it just did, out of nowhere.
Does anyone on here know of a way of fixing it beside just unplugging it and plugging it back in as Nokia suggests? That method is producing no results.
It's looking like I'm going to just have to exchange it for a new one and hope this doesn't happen again. I can't find anyone else on the internet that seems to have had this problem, so hopefully it's not a big issue and mine just happens to be a lemon. I could understand if I had dropped it or something, but all it did since I got it was sit on my nightstand. One day it worked, and the next it didn't.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have had problems with the charging too. Some times it works good, some times it has stoped charging during night and some times it hasn't charged at all.
I keep my Fat Boy packed charging plate on the floor besides my bed. And we have electrical floor heating.
I guess that the magnetic field the floor heating creates, when it is on, is causing my problems... So likewise any disturbing magnetic fields can do the same. In my case the heating comes on at 10 PM and is normally on for hour or so. Quite often I go to bed before or at that time. So I am quite sure that the problem is what I just explained.
The question to Nokia is, that my phone is still showing that it is charging. Is the problem in the brains of the charging plate (does it have any?) or the phone (Lumia 920)? As it's clear that the external magnetic field can disturb the charging process, but like in my case the disturbance is only temporary. So couldn't there be more intelligence on the devices that they could recover from this?
I can correct it my self, if I noticed it before morning, by taking phone of the plate and putting it back. Couldn't the phone do this by itself when it notices that the battery actually isn't charging? I mean some how disconnect itself from the wireless charger and connect again...
Oh and the charging is okay despite my floor heating, when I manage to but the charging plate exactly right place on the floor. There is some one centimeter marging to do that. So I haven't got it right every time.
And I don't know what the light of the charger is sayin as it is inside the fat boy cover... Didn't even remember that there is any lights...

  • IPhone 7 could Support Wireless Charging in Apple's Way (Rumours)

iPhone 7 could Support Wireless Charging in Apple’s Way (Rumours) Wireless power transmission was introduced by Nikola Tesla, when he succeeded in lighting electric lamps without wires. However, it took centuries for this technology to find its way in the mainstream. Well, over the past few years, qi wireless charging has finally emerged on to the consumer electronics market, especially in gadgets. The latest Smartphones like Galaxy S6/ S6 Edge, Phablets like Nexus 6 and Tablets like Nexus 7 now have built in wireless charging capabilities. But Apple’s iPhone 6 or 6 plus still lags behind in this advanced level of charging. To make them compatible with wireless charging pad a user need to insert an additional receiver that makes the charging process more hefty.
Recent video by GdgtCompare on their official you tube channel hinted towards built-in wireless charging concepts that Apple may introduced in its iPhone 7. Apple generally changes the design of its iPhone every two years, so we can expect that in 2016, iPhone 7 will get new look and design according to Apple’s terminology.
For this year it is almost confirmed that upcoming iPhone 6S and 6S plus shares similar design to the existing iPhone 6 handset.

The warranty is for one year and covers any manufacturing defects during that year. If you chose to pay for AppleCare, then your warranty would be extended. I could understand being angry if your iPod failed a week after the warranty expired, but FOUR YEARS after its expiration?!? I do not know any company that would cover a product years after warranty expiration.
So the logic board died. Nothing is designed to last forever. Apple is under no obligation - legally or ethically - to GIVE you something so long after the expiration of the warranty. After five years of use - temperature extremes, jostling, the occasional drop, etc. - something is likely to fail (all you need is one solder to go bad). If a portable electronic device lasts five years, I think that is the very definition of well built.
Now let me ask you something. If your car has a 50,000 mile/5 year warranty and the fuel injection dies after 250,000 miles - should the auto manufacturer be liable for the failure? Even if that is often the first thing to go on that particular model? And even if you treated the car perfectly?
And, as far as getting a non-Apple digital music player, that is certainly your prerogative. But do you think ANY manufacturer is going to give you the time of day four years after your warranty has expired?

  • HT1665 Recently read on a deal site forum page that you can only use Apple lightning cables to charge iPads running iOS 7 or higher. Is that the case or will any 8-pin to USB cable work? Thx in advance for any helpful replies.

Recently read on a deal site forum page that you can only use Apple lightning cables to charge iPad Air or iPad Mini Retina running iOS 7 or higher. Is that the case or will any 8-pin to USB cable work? Thx in advance for any helpful replies.

Due to a lot of bad press that Apple was getting due to burnt chargers, shocked users (the electrical kind...), etc., due to the lousy third party El Cheapo brand generics, as of iOS 7 the cable must be Apple-certified before the iGadget deigns to use it for charging purposes. Unfortunately (for Apple) the old traditional USB to 30-pin cable is just that, a straight piece of wire, and can't be validated by the iGadget. But lo & behold, the new gear uses the new Lightning cable, which contains an embedded chip that CAN be validated and lousy imitations disabled from use.

Apple recommends backing up the data when you're getting the battery replaced by them. So I assume that you will likely lose the data during this process.
Will the data on my iPhone be preserved?
No, during the service process all data on your iPhone will be erased. Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPhone and does not offer any data transfer service. During service, Apple may exchange your iPhone with an iPhone that is new or equivalent to new in performance and reliability.
Following service, your iPhone may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need torestore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.

  • Lumia 920 wireless charging not working after phon...

    Long story short
Coulnd't hear anyone speaking on the phone if volume was turned up over 6 as internal earpiece distorts too badly (there is something loose inside the Lumia 920)
Got the phone back from Nokia care point in Cheltenham UK, earpiece fault not fixed.
Took it home, put it on the wireless charger - it now does not charge whereas it did perfectly before the trip to get 'fixed'
Nokia careport say 'Nothing to do with us, we'll have to send it back to Finland, which will take 3 weeks and you can't have a spare phone'
As a result, my confidence in Nokia is fading fast, won't be giving them any more chances to build a decent phone when this contract ends.

Sounds like the care point has broken it and are refusing to accept responsibility for their actions. Care points are independent and not directly run by Nokia.
I suggest you submit a complaint to Nokia UK on this link:

Not working anything not charging no conection with pc and if somebody calls me it tells that i am not answering
That thing that just happended whith my iphone and now i can not do anything whith my iphone it just turned off

Yes, you got the phone which was currently eligible for Early Edge at the time. This changes from time to time. When the iPhone 6/6+ was first released those were the ONLY phones you could purchase on Early Edge. This was for September and October of 2014. You would not have been able to purchase any other phone with Early Edge at the time. At the time, this made a lot of android phone owners angry, just as it is making the OP(an iPhone owner) angry now. Then it was the Droid Turbo ONLY, then it was....
One of the requisites AS LISTED ON THE EDGE PAGE is that your line must be eligible for an upgrade. Verizon lifts this requirement IF you want to purchase a specific phone. If the phone you want is not eligible for Early Edge at this moment, it may be at some point in the future and the phone CURRENTLY available may NOT be available for Early Edge. You were able to get the phone you wanted on Early Edge because it was the phone(or one of the phones) eligible at the time for Early Edge.
Verizon does not have a link for Early Edge because it is not always available AND the eligible phones change from time to time. This is no different than any other special they occasionally run.
Regardless, since a link WAS given for Edge which DOES list upgrade eligibility as being a requirement, if someone DOES NOT fulfill that requirement it is not out of the question that other portions of Edge may be different, too, such as what you posted "All Verizon Wireless smartphones, tablets and basic phones are eligible for Verizon Edge." If Verizon relaxes a requirement to enter into Edge, why is it so hard to fathom they may ALSO change something else such as which phones are eligible???
The fact that the OP IS NOT able to purchase an iPhone on Early Edge simply reinforces this fact.

  • Home Sharing not working between wireless PC's / devices and ethernet wired PC's on the same router.

Home Sharing is not working between wireless PC's / devices and ethernet wired PC's on the same router.  I installed a new Verizon FIOS ActionTec  MI424WR GigE wireless / ethernet router, replacing the original FIOS router.  With the old router Home Sharing worked fine across and among all iOS and Windows wired and wireless devices.  With the new router Home Sharing works between and among the Wired PC's but not between the wired PC's and the Wireless connected PC's or iOS devices.  Home Sharing also works between and among the wireless connected PC's and iOS decices but not between them and the wired PC's.
Only the router was changed.  No changes were made to any of the devices except all were updated with the latest version of iTunes 10.7.0.21 and the iSO devices were updated to iOS vrsion 6.01.  Three PC's are wired and all are running Windows 7.  There also is a Windows Home Server connected to the router by ethernet port.  It does not run iTunes but does provide WebDAV services to my iOS devices.  This works fine.  Two PC's are wireless, one running Windows 7 and one running Windows 8.  All of the PC's are connected to the same (new) router via it's ethernet ports and it's wireless access point.  Two of the wired PC's are connected via a high-speed  ethernet hup that is connected to the router (Home Sharing works fine between the two PC's on the hub and the PC on the router).  All wired and wireless devices on the router are visible and members of the router's Home/Office virtual network.
All of the PC's are visible in the Windows network and all shared files are accessable from all PC's, both wired and wireless.
Obviously the router seems to be the issue, something between the ethernet and the wireless access point components.  I checked the settings and found nothing that would prevent Home Sharing between the wired and wireless devices.  There is no setting that isolates the wireless network.  I have done the following:
Read the router user manual and checked all the settings
    Rebooted the router and tested.
Turned off the router's firewall and tested.
Home Sharing is turned on all the devices and all use the same Apple ID.
    Restarted iTunes and tested.
Verified iTunes is "Allowed" in each PC's firewall.
Again, I can Home Share between the two wireless PC's but not between either of the wireless PC's and any of the wired PC's.  I can Home Share between my iPads and iPhones and either of the two wireless PC's but not with any of the wired PC's.  I can Home Share between any of the wired PC's but not between any wired PC and a wireless PC or iOS device.
I hope someone may have had a similar problem and has a fix suggestion.  I'm stumped!  I have a;so contacked ActionTec and awaiting an answer.

    Solution from ActionTec is:
    Log into your router.
    Click the Advanced icon
    Cclick Yes
    Click on the IGMP Proxy
    Select Disable
    Click Apply

  • Iphone 5 no longer recognizes apple lightening cord to charge

So I have been on a quest the last few days to try and find out why out of the 4 iPhone users in our house, only 2 of us, owning the iPhone 5, have issues with cords and charging our phones. We have owned every generation of iPhones and own everything apple in our home. This is the first time I have ever had any problems with our apple products.
My problems started shortly after I bought the phone and found that my charging cables were dying constantly. Then I noticed it was happening to my other iPhone 5 user too. Eventually my daughters iPhone 5 started having battery issues. It would crash from  50% and down to 0% in no time. We were traveling with a group of parents and kids and saw the mophie juice pack and looked it up and purchased it for my daughters phone. After a few months her phone no longer recognizes any apple cords. We get the error msg about this accessory is not compatible. The same apple cord works on all of our other phones and the iPad mini.We have replaced her battery twice and after much research I was assuming that we would need to replace something internally that recognizes the charger. We have cleaned it too.
So this is where it gets weird, i use my thirty pin iPhone 4 charger and a lightning adapter and it works.
I also will mention we did a hard reset and finally an erase and restore.
After other posts I have heard smarties tell me only use apple products, well I am always using apple products, when available, to a fault, but apple sells the mophie charger on their site. After talking it over with other iPhone users, I have concluded it is the iPhone 5. My friends who have multiple iPhones in their home have only issues with the 5 and not the 5S.
It has major issues and apple is the one responsible. I have read about these Chinese made inferior products that are supposedly  the reason for the breakdown, but why have these products not been a problem until the use of the new lightning cable? And the chip in the cables does not seem to work well with the 5.
The 5 will not work with my expensive Honda that has all of the capabilities to work with a smart phone,  when it worked perfect with the 4s.
I am not sure how the iOS updates have to do with this as only seems to affect the 5 and not the 5s which runs on the same iOS.
Curious as to anyone else's thoughts on the matter.

Apple does not participate in the forum. If you want them to see your feedback, then you need to go to http://www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

I just purchased an Apple TV.  I have a pc running windows 7.  It is connected to a router and the router is connected to a wireless router.  I connect my iPhone, iPad and apple tv to wireless network but do not know how to put the pc on the wifi network so the Apple TV can do home share.

I don't mean to be facetious but sometimes the simplest things are overlooked.  To connect to your library you have to have the computer where the iTunes library is located running and with iTunes open.  It also needs to be on the same network.  My network is dual band and works with either stream but a friend of mine does not.  He has to set the computer and the Apple TV to the same band.  Hope this helps.

The device is locked to the carrier it was purchased through unless you specifically purchased it as unlocked directly from Apple.
Only the carrier to whom it is locked can authorize it's unlocking.  To do so, the user much contact them to start the unlock process.
