Is Arch moving to German because of Friedrich Nietzsche?

Nietzsche: Elitist, believes in not dumbing down things so the crowd can understand
Arch: Elitist, believes in not dumbing things so the crowd can understand
Could it be?!?!?!

If you really have seen more German spoken on these forums, switching to German is a good idea, but don't change any package names or delete existing English stuff. Please either start a separate site like en.archlinux.org... add scripts to translate this one on the fly, or post the php files that control this site and the formerly used English translation to facilitate community projects.
If no English site ever comes to be, I'm fine using this site but please don't make it unnecessarily hard to start one.

  • HT1296 What is the correct windows xp path to use so USB sync will function? I must have moved my folder because sync no longer works.

I tried to organize my computer folders but must have moved a key folder for my iProducts because I can no longer sync. Does anyone know the correct windows xp path to put my documents folder in the right location so sync will function again?

Open iTunes, go to the Help, on the top menu bar.  ITunes can rebuild the path to the iTunes files.

  • HT1329 I completed all the steps up until actually moving my music, because my iPod won't show up in finder? I've tried all the basic things (changing ports...etc.) but it still isn't showing up?

I have an older Ipod touch, but an Ipod touch nontheless. I'm also using the cable that came with an iphone but i'm told that makes no difference. Finally, i'm moving my music from PC to mac, but no longer have my music on the PC, seeing as to how I followed all the above steps, and now only have my music on my ipod. Idk why this is happening, but it's driving me crazy, so if someone could kindly help?

I finally managed to find my way round this problem by downgrading to iTunes 10.7 instead of iTunes 11 which seemed to be the main problem.
I deleted my iTunes 11 app, then downloaded again iTunes 10.7 from the apple previous downloads website, then used Pacifist to install it. No problems whatsoever! My iPod is now visible - again - and my whole music library is there.
So now I won't upgrade iTunes anymore!

  • HT4929 Is anyone else moving to Google because iCloud makes non-Lion equipement?

My $4000 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.8 will soon be unable to access mail unless I'm connected to the Internet and iCloud. The 'resident application' advantage Apple Mail once had is now gone.  Is anyone else moving considering moving to Google Mail for this reason?  Has anyone moved and come back?  Also thinking this will save over $100/year by canceling my subscription.  I can't imagine Apple sees this as a good business idea (turning loyal advocates into dispassionate former members), or am I missing something???!

From your condescending comments, I expect I should have been more explicit in my original post (and I've disregarded your selective reading responses).  My issue is that I can't process any email unless I'm connected to the internet and iCloud on this machine.
I have a MacBook Pro with 2GHz Intel Core Duo and 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Memory.  The most advanced operating system this will run, according to the Genius at the Apple Store, is OS X 10.6.8.  The most advanced Mail program for OSX 10.6.8 is Mail 4.5, which does not synchronize with iCloud.
I am able to process email on all my other Apple devices when not connected to the internet.
My issue with Apple on this is not just that they are not supporting the older application and offer mobile-only access, but that their historically amazing customer service fell flat in adequately letting me know that when on this device I will no longer be able to process email unless I have an active internet connection.
Do you know of a helpful alternative method to process email without an internet connection?

  • Arch sources: git and/or Subversion?

    Hi,
Close to an year ago there was news about Arch moving from CVS to SVN. Nevertheless, git seems to be mentioned much more often than SVN. What is the place of these version control systems in the Arch workflow?

    Llama wrote:Thanks! History/reasons why?
I guess because there were different needs for repo packages, and for arch projects.
I suppose git is used for arch projects because it is the favorite tool of most arch developers.
For the repo switch, there was a long brainstorming at several moments between arch developers. Afaik the main discussion starts here :
    http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 01904.html
Then two main implementations were proposed :
    1) svn : http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 01969.html
    2) git : http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 02191.html
It might be that the svn way won only because the implementation was more advanced because the dev behind put more efforts into it

  • Possible bug in the arch NFS server package?

i run the nfs server on my arch box, exporting to a debian box and an arch laptop. whenever the arch server reboots lately, the shares don't automatically remount properly on the clients. they're listed in mtab, but if i ls or try to access the directories, i get a permission denied error. i have to manually unmount the shares and then remount them again to be able to see/use them.
the reason i think this is an arch package problem is because i set up a share on the debian box to share with arch, and that worked perfectly. when i rebooted debian as the server, the shares were automatically remounted on the arch client, and when i rebooted arch, the shares were again mounted properly on reboot.
it's possible i'm doing something wrong with permissions, but it seems unlikely because 1) everything was working fine for a long time until recently, when i started noticing the behavior,  2) all the permissions on the shared directory are identical to the ones on the arch shared directory, all user name UIDs are the same, same groups and GIDs, etc., 3) the shares mount perfectly well manually from the command line, and 4) i set up the debian share/exports, etc. in about 2 minutes with no problem at all, while dealing with this problem on arch for 2 days now, after changing options and going over everything multiple times until my head is spinning. it just seems unlikely that a configuration is wrong, although i guess anything is possible. i can provide all that permissions/group info, fstab info, /etc/exports info, etc. if anyone wants to take a closer look at it.
so until this is sorted, i wondered if anyone else is having this problem, or if anyone had any ideas of something i might be overlooking. again, everything *seems* to be set up right, but maybe there's some arch specific thing i'm overlooking. thanks.

Ok out of pure fustration I just grabbed the gentoo init script. Installed start-stop-daemon, modified the script to run as #!/bin/bash, stuck it in /etc/rc.d, rebooted and everything works, I can reboot my computer and clients reconnect. Or restart daemon and they reconnect.

  • Arch and Slack - What's the difference?

I'm from the Ubuntu camp.  I've been using Linux for close to three years now and getting bored.  I desperately need something more complicated.
My question is - what's the difference between Arch and Slackware?  I've used Slackware in the past.  I also tried out Zenwalk recently.

Slackware requires more effort from the user. But you learn quiet a bit as the reward. It takes a different approach for package management. (varies on the package management tools you use). Slackware is less bleeding edge than Arch, as it focuses on a slower release schedule. (to stablise, I guess...But I do note that it pays off, as I hear stories of people upgrading from ver 9 to ver 11 without too much trouble).
Arch strikes a balance between sufficiently difficult enough to learn from, but not too tedious or time consuming to maintain. Its straightforward. The key seems to be pacman and ABS. Personally, it feels like Debian, but faster and more bleeding edge. (With no politics and internal squabbles which affect the date of major releases).
What drove me from Ubuntu/OpenSUSE to Arch, was that both those distros reminded me of Windows. *shivers*
As in, they assumed you want "this and that" enabled and installed by default. So a default install of Ubuntu had alot of stuff I never asked for. (If I wanted HP drivers and Bittorent stuff, I'll install it myself!)
There's also the fact (after trying Debian "Etch"), Ubuntu is really nothing more than Debian with changes to make things easier for the Linux beginner. Some joke this distro as "Ubuntu is an African word meaning: Can't install Debian". (In that respect, they are right)
For me, I enjoy distros like Slackware, Debian, Arch, etc...Because they don't assume I want a bunch of apps I didn't ask for. As well, they don't challenge me but they don't make it really time consuming.
Nothing beats a fresh clean base install, and building a system the way you want!
I mainly stick to Arch because I like the way the project is going.

  • VMI and moving average price

    Dear all
    Please help us.
We will use moving average price as stock evaluation.
Also, we manage all inventory is VMI stock.
Our business process is the following procedure.
    1. We will increase consignment stock (VMI) without reference to purchase order.
    2. We will input sales order and allocate it to VMI stock.
    3. We will post goods issue, movement type 601-K.
As you know, accounting documents post GR/IR at this time. Unfortunately, SAP does not calculate moving average price (MAP) in material master. ie. moving average price is zero.
We would like to calculate moving average price because almost stock is VMI.
    How do you customize SAP?
    Best regards.

You have to add one more step to handle this scenario as per my knowledge
which is before you issue the stock using 601 K you have to take the stock in you own inventory and than issue using movement type 601 not 601 k.
As per the std SAP the 601 K M type will never update the value  because that's not are stock
you can see the setting below
    601     K     L                   2             VAX
    601     K     L          WA03     2     GBB     VAX

  • Does Arch have a partition program?

    Hi
I'm running a dual boot setup and I initially gave Arch a small partition because I was just trying it out. Now, the tables have turned! I'm almost done a complete migration to Linux and am keeping XP just to run some stuff that works best on it. Needless to say, I need to change the sizes of my partitions. Do I need to download one via pacman or does Arch come with one? (The reason I ask is because I believe some distros like ubuntu do come with one).

    pacman -Sy  extra/gparted
    or
    pacman -Sy extra/qtparted
use any of the above programs to do ur partition resizing thing.even better use a ubuntu livecd.

  • [Solved] Dual UEFI Booting Arch against pre-existing Ubuntu install

    Hi All,
I'm new to Arch Linux and have just managed to install it on my T530 Lenovo laptop along side a pre-existing Ubuntu installation.
However, although I did consult the dual boot posting and article here on the site beforehand, those articles seemed to be about installing Grub. Since I already have it up and working, I was nervous about deleting it and so potentially loosing my working Ubuntu installation.
I tried installing mounting my pre existing /boot/efi partition but the pre-existing vmlinuz-linux file (no doubt from my Ubuntu installation) prevented it from working. My solution was to create the boot folder on the same partition as my Arch installation.
I now have an installation that works (kind of) however, it appears each time I boot up, I have to edit the Grub entry for my Arch installation to update the UUID Grub points to to get it to load up Arch. I can't find where the actual file being loaded in Grub resides (the file that it appears generates this script, is itself built from a series of predefined variables).
I admit I am playing at the moment - I'm keen to get to grips with this distro and am up for considering all options including deleting and starting again to learn to get it set up correctly. My questions are:
How should I have done this so that my Arch linux distro was loaded via Grub called by the UEFI and had the same booting file structure as the already existing Ubuntu installation (using the BOOTLOADER partition and the /boot/efi folders on it)
How do I edit the Grub file for my Arch distro so it stays edited (no more retyping all the UUIDs each time I load it up
Is there a way to get to the installation I currently have to an the more ideal state
Details taken thanks to the bootrepair application are here:

I don't think there are any Ubuntu kernel images on your EFI system partition (they are in /boot, not /boot/efi).
If you want Arch to boot in an EFI system you should mount /boot (rather than /boot/efi) to the EFI system partition.
To do this, copy the /boot folder over to /dev/sda1 and add it to your /etc/fstab (in Arch):
    /dev/sda1 /boot vfat rw,relatime,discard,nodev,nosuid,noexec,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,errors=remount-ro 0 2
It's probably best to install & configure GRUB from Arch rather than Ubuntu because Arch mounts /boot to the ESP while all other distributions mount /boot/efi so the results may get confusing (ie, GRUB may create menu entries to boot Ubuntu with your Arch kernel and vice versa); also the Arch kernel image is booted read-write whereas most other kernel images are booted read-only.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB#UEFI_systems
I find the os-prober script can fail sometimes so this is probably your problem here.
Personally, I use gummiboot to boot my Debian system by copying the kernel image & initial ramdisk to the EFI system partition using these commands in Debian (this would also work in Ubuntu):
    # mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
    # cp /vmlinuz /initrd.img /mnt
Then I make a gummiboot menu entry; your Ubuntu entry would look like this:
    title Ubuntu
    linux /vmlinuz
    initrd /initrd.img
    options root=/dev/sda2 ro
Add any kernel parameters after "ro" and make an entry for Arch as well (you may also need to configure /boot/loader/loader.conf as per the ArchWiki page) & install gummiboot from Arch using:
    # gummiboot install
You can then create a post-install script at /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-gummiboot in your Ubuntu system to copy over the kernel image & initrd to the ESP whenever the kernel is updated:
    #!/bin/sh
    mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
    cp /vmlinuz /initrd.img /mnt/
    umount -R /mnt
    Make this executable:
    # chmod +x /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-gummiboot
This method will only work if you have /boot mounted to the EFI system partition (as outlined in the Beginner's Guide).

  • How can I keep cursor stable when moving X scroll?

    Dear All,
How can I keep cursor stable in the graph when moving X scroll?
Normally, the cursor is moving while moving X scroll, because the X scroll changes.
    Thank you!

    Hi Hugo,
the cursor has it's x- and y-coordinate. If you move the x scroll-bar, the cursor moves too.
To avoid this you have to move the cursor with the x scroll bar. To do so you have to get the cursor position and the x-scale min/max before movement. While movement you have to calculate a new cursor position relativ to the new x-scale and set the cursor accordingly. (Problems may arise if the cursor is connected to a plot...)
That's what property nodes are used for!

  • Refurbishment WO - exclude moving average price from WO's costs

    Hello Experts,
We have following problem. In refurbishment WO costs contains also moving average price of component which is under refurbishment.
From our point of view it is not proper since such a costs are not costs of repair.
We would like to exclude moving average price of component which is refurbished (moved to REPI storage location).
In SPRO there is only a possibility to exclude costs from WO which are assigned to particular cost elements or their group but it is not a case here, since we cannot assign all repairable materials to cost elements group defined in advance.
Do you have any idea how to do that?
    Regards:
    Łukasz Kurlit

    Hi ,
In MM for split valulated material we can maintain cost /stock for each valution type of the material ..if a material has valuation V1,V2,V3 .. new material is bought at V1 valuation price and after usage it is valuated to V3 and then refurbished to V2 .. now for V1&V3 you can maintain Standard price or Moving average price as per MM02 accounting tab by changing the price control in that tab and maintaing price unit .. but for V2 i think we should have Moving Average Price because everytime refubishment takes place at different refurbishment costs ..  finally you need to follow as per your clients requirement ..

  • Hiphop on arch?

Hi.  I'm interested to try using hiphop to compile my php code.  I see the package in the AUR, but I can't find anything in the wiki on how to install/use it, and I haven't found any useful posts in the forums.  Has anyone got this working in arch?  Can someone point me to some good documentation I can follow to get it working.  Of course, I've googled it and found some stuff, but some say that it is easier on particular linux distros.  I was wondering if there's anything to watch out for in arch.
