Is Arch64 good for server?

Hi, I admit it I have used and I'm using Arch 32 on a VPS and on my PC.
Now I have to lease an Intel E6400 based server, so I was wondering if the 64 bit version of Arch is a good choice for a web server. Obviously I need MySQL, PHP, Apache, Perl, Bind, Postfix and other common sever software. Are these softwares in the 64 bit repos? And they work well or there are incompatibility issues and/or other problems?

I have to agree here. While Arch isn't specialized on stability, if you know the system very well, you can make a good server with it. Especially because Arch doesn't preconfigure, but you install everything yourself, thus know exactly what you have and don't have.
For a server, Arch64 has no disadvantages to Arch32, as you usually use opensource applications like Apache and PHP, which are all available for Arch64. If you need closed source apps, you may need 32 bit libs. For some you can used the lib32- multilib packages from community, some may need a full 32 bit chroot. But this is rare for a server I think.

  • Is iMovie good for serving as a movie library?

    I am new to iMovie.
I have many small video clips from various digital cameras (and the Flip) spanning many years. I would like to organize and browse through them all. Is iMovie good for this?
In other words, does it work like iPhoto? I use iPhoto to organize and view my photos, can I organize all of my videos with iMovie in the same way I can organize my photos with iPhoto?
If not, is there a program that is good for this?
    Thanks,

  • Issues with Good for Enterprise Server

I just bought a new HTC Incredible and have connected it to my companies exchange systems through a Good for Enterprise server. I have added it two times so far and each time mail works for a few hours and then it stops. The first time I deleted myself from the goodlink server and re-added myself. Which, like I said, made it start working again, but it then stopped after a few hours.
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this issue?

Do you have the feature code for Good added to your data plan? Without it you are not supposed to be able to use the Good service.
The feature code is 73666 I think.

  • Multiple free goods for one item in standalone CRM

    Hi Gurus,
We are trying to implement multiple free goods for one item in standalone CRM.
As per SAP.help.com, it says that we can configure multiple free goods scenario in standalone CRM system.
We tried to set up this in our system.  Basically we want to implement the scenario, where a user wants to  purchase item A, he should get a prompt for choosing between two free goods  B and C.
We did the relevant IMG settings required for Free goods at  IMG ->CRM -> Basic Functions -> Free Goods.-> Set up Free Goods
We also did the relevant item category determination where we have made an entry with
Item Usage = " Free Goods" , Main item cat. = "TAN' , Item Category = "TANN".
Now we went to create condition records in the path  "SAP Menu -> Master Data -> Prices and Conditions -> SAPCND/GCM - Maintain condition"
We chose Application ="PRT", MaintenanceGrp="PRT_FGOODS", Maintenance context ="GCM"
Then while creating conditon records , when I try to create two condition records where the Main Product is same but free good product is different, the system is not allowing to save these two condition records.
it is giving error "Overlapping validity periods for two condition records".
Please advice, if i am missing something. Thanks in advance for your help.
    thanks,

Constraints in free goods in R3 taken from SAP library
Free goods can only be supported on a 1:1 ratio. This means that an order item can lead to a free goods item. Agreements in the following form are not supported: u2018With material 1, material 2 and material 3 are free of chargeu2018 or u2018If material 1 and material 2 are ordered at the same time, then material 3 is free of chargeu2018.
Free goods are not supported in combinations with material structures (for example, product selection, BOM, variants with BOM explosion).
Free goods are only supported for sales orders with document category C (for example, not quotations).
Free goods are not supported for deliveries without reference to a sales order.
Free goods cannot be used in make-to-order production, third-party order processing and scheduling agreements.
If you defined a free goods for variants in a generic article (only SAP Retail), you can only process the variants in the purchase order and goods receipt individually (as single articles). In other words, you cannot process them using the generic article matrix.
This answers your qn Not possible in R3
If you are on Retail scenario this is possible thro bonus buy schemes
But a lot of customizations needs to be done and you need a retail server to do that

  • Multiple free goods for one main material

    Hello SAP Gurus,
we have a business requirement that to issue multiple free products for one main product, if the upliftment is beyond the specified quantity.
Using free goods functionality, is it possible to achive the above requirement.
    e.g                                                     Quantity
    main product        123456                         10
    free goods             xxxxx                           2
    free goods             yyyyy                           1
is it possible to maintain such data thru free goods or any development needs to be done.

  • What is Java good for?

I need to develop a really serious solution for Win2K server, that will handle security data. Now I am thinking of a platform to do it. Can Java really secure the data I will trust to store it? I mean various mulfunctions, program bugs, errors, so on. Microsoft really insists on trusting its programs, not Java's (see the installiation guide for Win2K: 'Java cannot be used for medical, technical (for example handling the nuclear enterprises) ...'), so I don't know what to do. Developing a Java solution will be simplier that doing the same thing with VC.Net, but ... What do you think? What is Java good for?

Microsoft really insists on trusting its programs, not Java'sDo you trust Microsoft?
(see the installiation guide for Win2K: 'Java cannot be used for medical, technical (for example handling
the nuclear enterprises) ...'), so I don't know what to do. The nuclear bit is in the Java license ("You acknowledge that Software is not designed, licensed or intended for use in the design, construction, operation or maintenance of any nuclear facility.") I think it's probably either a result of US law requiring some certification or other for software used in nuclear facilities, or a preemptive move by Sun to forestall possible lawsuits.
The JVM is stable, probably more so than .NET since it's older, and should be suitable for your use, based on the description so far. The things you need to worry about are primarily personnel and hardware configuration (i.e. disabling virtual mem).

  • Direct Access Management Servers, what are the entry good for?

In the advanced Direct Access setup wizard you have the ability to enter your management servers. I haven't been able to find an explanation of why, what is it good for? If I understand everything correct DA gives full access to the subnet so why is it of
interest to list some servers as "management servers"?

    Hi,
Management servers are servers that you are able to access from the da client Before logged on as a user.
Your domain controllers are by default infrastructure servers, but in many cases you want to add for example SCCM, NAP and other servers to be accessable prior logon.
If you are using the manage-out functionality in DirectAccess, and want to access a client prior anyone is logged on, the management server is also needed there.

  • Custom protocol handler for Server and Client

    Hi there,
I have been reading about "A New Era for Java Protocol Handlers" from http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/protocolhandlers/ . I would like to redesign my existing codes to suit this architecture.
The article mentioned about write client side application. I am wondering whether it will be possible to use the same architecture for server side as well ?
If it is possible, it will be the very kind of you all to guide me to the right direction. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your input. Yeah, the article has been there for quite sometimes. That's why I am a bit sceptical about using it. The strange thing is that there has not been any updates about this topic since then (searched in google and not many web pages are mentioning this thing). I am wondering whether it is a good choice to change the code or not.

  • Java - Shared archive: sharing disabled for server vm ?

    Hi,
My mac is PowerMac G5(1.8Ghz) + leopard server 10.5.1.
    I have a question.
After typing *java -version*, the following messages are shown.
*Shared archive: sharing disabled for server vm*
    *java version "1.5.0_13"*
*Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)*
*Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode)*
What is *Shared archive: sharing disabled for server vm* ?
    Using my other macs, iMac(Intel 1.8GHz) and PowerBook G4(1.5GHz) + leopard client-10.5.1,
    the message is
    *java version "1.5.0_13"*
*Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)*
*Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)*
    So, the difference is "sharing".
    Anyone know what it means?

I'm getting the same message. I'm intrigued. This would seem to be something to do with the new version of Java
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-237)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-119, mixed mode, sharing)
I don't get the message when doing java -version, but I do get it when starting JBoss:

run.sh: Could not set maximum file descriptor limit: unlimited

  • Iphone 4 - Good for Enterprise - Notifications

I am having an issue with receiving Notifications on my iPhone from my work e-mail (Good for Enterprise).  I have a Corporate E-Mail plan from Verizon and Push Notifications are turned on in Settings on my iPhone.  However, I am not notified when I receive email or for Calendar reminders unless I open the Good application.  Any suggestions?
    -Mark

Thank you for your inquiry. Adding to what was stated, perhaps you could try powering off your device to see if doing a soft reset would help the reminder email notifications to come through to your phone. Even though you have the push function enable, the opening of Good for Enterprise refreshes the connection to your email server allowing new e-mail to be sent to the device. For additional assistance, please refer to this website link: http://www.good.com/support/

  • Optimum HD setup for Server on Mac Pro

We are currently running Tiger Server on a Dual 2 G5 and are preparing to migrate to Leopard Server on a new 8-core Mac Pro (I wanted an Xserve, but given the tight purse strings lately, will happily settle for the Mac Pro!!). I will be doing a clean install and then migrating settings, accounts, etc. over to the new machine. I've been trying to figure out the best hard drive setup, but have quickly become confused by the overwhelming abundance of (and occasionally conflicting) recommendations out there.
I've seen some who swear by a RAID 1+0 set up {two sets of mirrored drives that are then striped...or is it a set of striped drives that are then mirrored?!? You can see my dilemma...}, while others swear off of such a setup; lots of STRONG recommendations in favor of a small OS disk and second data disk (perhaps a solid state drive for the OS and a regular drive for the data?); even recommendations for multiple drives with 2 partitions that are RAIDed in ways that made my eyes bleed just trying to figure them out.
Bottom line: what would you recommend hard drive wise for a Mac Pro that's going to be a primary server for a small private school? Assume anything is possible (within reason--obviously a 16 bay external RAID is out of the question), and, if possible, include specific drive recommendations (I've seen LOTS of posts steering me as far away from Seagate as I can get because of high failure rates / firmware issues...any thoughts on the WD Caviar Black vs. the WD RE3 Enterprise?).
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

There are so many conflicting recommendations because there are so many valid configurations. Not every option is right for every case, and you need to consider your own use case to determine the best option.
    Let's start off with:
I've seen some who swear by a RAID 1+0 set up {two sets of mirrored drives that are then striped...or is it a set of striped drives that are then mirrored?
RAID 1+0 is a series of mirrored sets that are striped together. This contrasts with RAID 0+1 which is sets of striped disks that are mirrored. The difference is subtle but there are slight differences in fault tolerance and performance in a degraded state (e.g. when one disk has failed).
lots of STRONG recommendations in favor of a small OS disk and second data disk
That is sometimes preferred, although it does depend, again, on usage pattern. If you expect to have a lot of data access then this can be advantageous.
Bottom line: what would you recommend hard drive wise for a Mac Pro that's going to be a primary server for a small private school
    A 'primary server' doing what?
Open Directory authentication: doesn't matter since disk is barely used, so any RAID format is going to work equally well, as well a non-RAID setup with a good backup process.
Home Directories: This may benefit from separating data from system, but you need to consider how much disk space you need.
Network Services (such as DNS, DHCP, NAT, etc.): Doesn't matter since disk is irrelevant for these services.
Other services: You need to be specific about what this server is doing in order to determine the best disk setup.
Assume anything is possible (within reason--obviously a 16 bay external RAID is out of the question
Well since you mention that, what IS the limit?
Most specifically, if you're considering external arrays, what is your goal as far as capacity is concerned? You can get external arrays from 500GB to silly numbers of petabytes depending on how much you need and are prepared to pay.
Also if you're going external, once you go over 4 drives, neither RAID 1+0 nor RAID 0+1 is ideal. You'd more likely be looking at RAID 5 which yields a better usable space ratio.
RAID 0+1 and RAID 1+0 both require 2n disks for n capacity - e.g. to get 2TB of usable space you need 4TB of disks). RAID 5 uses an n+1 ratio, so those same four 1TB disks would result in 3TB of usable space). RAID 5 has an extra processor overhead, though, so generally requires specific hardware such as a RAID controller rather than leaving it up to the OS.
    include specific drive recommendations
If you want to sleep at night, whatever drives Apple supply.
Sure, other drives will work in the Mac Pro, but for sheer reliability in a server, stick with Apple.
If budgets don't stretch to Apple-branded drives then just about any enterprise drive will work fine (don't try to skimp on cheap desktop drives since they're not designed for server loads).
I've seen LOTS of posts steering me as far away from Seagate as I can get because of high failure rates / firmware issues...any thoughts on the WD Caviar Black vs. the WD RE3 Enterprise?
Seagate really screwed up last year with a firmware bug (and, more importantly, how they mis-managed the solution), but that's history now, except for the people who got bit and have long memories. Consequently they would be on my list of vendors if I were buying non-Apple drives.
The Caviar Black is a desktop drive, so nix that. The RE3 would be OK.
Also bear in mind that if you are looking for an external enclosure (so you can handle more data than you can put in the server), many enterprise RAID solutions have their own limitations on drive support so you might need to consider that before you buy any drives.

  • S650, Un Root (needed to use Good for Entreprise)

    Hi all,
i like to use "good for enterprise" on my S650. Installation works fine, but after the connect to Good Server the app is blocked. The server log says, that the device is jailbroken, which means - in case of an android  device - it is rooted.
Now I tried several un-rooters without success. Root Checker detects the phone as "un-rooted", but the good server still doesn't accept it.
    Questions are:
    - how can I reliably un-root my phone?
    - how can I use Good for Enterprise on S650 (which in fact is worthless for me without this app)
    Technical facts:
    Firmware: S650_S119_131014
    Android 4.2.2
    Baseband S650.V11, 2013/09/06 17:48
Except of that very special problem: great phone with very good dual sim support.
Hope to rad from you soon,

    Hi,
    Glad to hear that.
I told you ''No it's not rooted '' (maybe you misunderstood...it hapens :-) .If you want to root it try Vroot or FrameRoot(one of them has to work) or you can try this custom: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Phones/Lenovo-s650-Custom-ROM-S650-ROW-S112-131128-mod-by-javum/m... ( it's kind of a Stock+ ) already rooted + TWRP recovery ( i'm using it and works like a charm ).
Again i don't think that root access was the problem.

  • Coldfusion support for Server 2012

When are installers going to be made avaliable for Server 2012 for Cold Fusion?.
Adobe have offically said that installers for windows 8 are 3-5  months away as of September 22nd, 2012 but we havent heard anything about Server 2012?
Server 2012 was released to MSDN on the 4th of Sepetember. 4 Months seems a long time to wait with no word on installers or support for CF on Server 2012. Are you telling me Adobe doesnt have a MSDN account and only got access to Server 2012 at the same time as the generaly public?

Unfortunately we are all paying the price for Oracle deferring the end of life of Java 6 from November to Feb. It sounded like Adobe were going roll all this stuff into their patch to add Java 7 support to CF9 and CF10, which they would have needed to get done by Nov. However now it seems they've slacked off and have left it to the last minute. I guess the good news is that this should all be done within the next month or so. The bad news is... it won't give us much chance to test the new release between when Adobe patch CF and before the Java 6 EOL.

  • Recommend a good console server vendor

    Hello all
I'm searching for a good console server and was hoping anyone of you had a good tip.
I really want the console server to supports the use of straight cat5e cables between the cisco equipment and the console server.
I dont want to use roll-over/adapters for each machine.
I've only found the Digi Passport equipment that can do this.
Anyone got experiance with these kind of products?
    Thank you

Hi R. Daniel Paddock, and Welcome to Discussions!
The only other site I know of off of the top of my head is Wegener Media. They have a Slot Loading combo drive for $149. That's still a lot of money, IMO.
Optical drives are a risky thing to buy secondhand off a place like eBay, so it may be harder to find a cheaper alternative.
