Is Arch64 having an edge on another distributions like Arch for i686

what I mean is if Arch64 is speedier than other 64-compatible distros out there just like Arch for i686 is speedier than other distros for i386.

Arch is faster than debian-based distros because it's less smart, much more simple and doesn't startup everything you installed by default

I am trying to install Elementary OS besides Arch Linux.
My SSD is partitioned as listed below:
* /dev/sda
- /dev/sda1 ( / of my Arch system)
- /dev/sda2 ( /home of both systems)
- /dev/sda3 ( swap partition)
- /dev/sda4 ( new partition - should be root of elementary OS)
I started the elementaryos installation and chose
/dev/sda2 as /home
/dev/sda4 as /
/dev/sda3 as swap
For the bootloader I chose "/dev/sda4" - maybe this is the problem already?
After the successfull installation I restarted my system. But there was no reference to the new system in my grub boot menu.
So I edited the file "/etc/grub.d/40_custom" as proposed in the wiki:

I restarted and was happy to see "Elementary OS" in my grub menu. But when I select elementary I get stuck anywhere in the initram shell (or how this is called). Nothing happens, I am able to type some stuff - but I do not get to the "normal" login window.
What do I have to do, to make this work?

Second, post the actual error messages received. If these are arch/grub errors we can help, but if they are - as it sounds - elementary errors, you'll have to ask on the elementary forums as these are for arch linux support only.
Third, sharing your home partition is a very bad idea. Share a data partition if you want, or documents, but not the home partition.

The mic on my iPhone4 has just quit also. Similar symptoms to yours in that people I'm talking to hear only static or my voice very faintly. The voice/memo recorder also only really records static.
It happened suddenly and seemed to get better after a day or two but then went completely after another day.
I'm returning it to Vodafone New Zealand shortly but will have to wait 5-10 days for a replacement. There are NO Apple accredited means to speed this procedure up in NZ.
We don't even have a single physical Apple Store where you could walk in and talk to a Genius. -

Do you know from which table could i get the sales org/distribution channel details for an Purchase order.
The Purchase order is an UB document type. STO
Then there will be delivery order created for this STO.
I heard there are 2 kinds of Sales org/distribution channel in one Purchase order? One is Vendor, another is local...?Is this correct understanding?

Distribution Builder looking for product installers
I'm having a problem building a distribution.
The builder is asking for product installers that were part of a different distribution and no longer
on the machine. Its looking for the NI-DAQmx Core Runtime 9.6.2 and the Ni-VISA Runtime 5.3 installers.
How do I remove the dependency of the previous distribution. In the Drivers & Components tab of the Installer
the change Source button is disabled how do enable it.
I'm running CVI 2012 on an XP machine. I appreciate any help .Hello chetp

Although I first started "messing" around with linux around 1995, it is only the past year where it is my primary OS. Arch has been my distribution of choice for the past seven months and has been a total joy to use. As much as I liked it before, I have gained an even deeper appreciation of Arch after being afflicted with distro curiosity (not hopping) disease. There is nothing new here, but I would like to list the reasons why I feel Arch is such a great distribution.
Great Text Installer
============
The installer not only looks good, but has a logical layout out and is easy to understand.
A GUI installer does not add any functionality to the installation process but creates the potential for Xorg problems.
The main menu approach allows the user to see all the installation steps on one screen as well as making it easy to go back if you made a mistake in partitioning or mounting. This approach also made it easier to re-install grub when my mbr backup file and grub-install did not work. The installer makes it easy to either select which packages you want or just install everything.
rc.conf and other configuration files
=======================
The default rc.conf and other configuration files make setting up the system much easier. There were 'dummy entries' letting the user know what information was needed as well as useful comments further assisting the user in the configuration process.
It Just Works
========
The system is ready.to.go after the base install and some basic configuration. This sounds like a no brainer, but unfortunately this is not the case with some other distributions. Setting up a wireless card in Arch (and Slackware) is as simple as make, make install and modprobe. Some distributions don't seem to install the kernel source and headers as part of the basic install or it gets broken after an upgrade. Based on my limited knowledge, the installer should provide all networking tools and all files and programs needed to compile programs or modules unless the user is given a chance to opt out. I just felt like I was in a catch-22 situation in a couple of distributions. Its frustrating when you have a working Internet connection during the install but do not have the necessary tools after a reboot. Upgrades to a newer kernel have not caused any problems for me. If Arch was a car, people would talk about its great fit and finish.
System defaults to console login.

This is a personal preference, but the inittab file makes it very easy to switch to Run Level 5 if desired. The inittab and xinit files are not nearly as clear in some distributions.

The web page, like the installer is very well laid out. Finding what you want is easy and only requires a click or two. The page is pleasant to look at without any of that "eye-candy" krap slowing it down or masking what you really want. Obviously there is a trend in my comments concerning substance over form.
The Bad and not so Pretty

The default xorg and desktop manager settings makes it hard to read without some tweaking and font selections. This is not a big deal, but other distributions provide a better out of the box 'X' desktop. Its possible this problem is specific to my machine (or me).
If I were 35 years younger and my IQ was 35 points higher, Arch would be the distribution I would like to create. This would not be a compliment if so many people did not feel the same way. If I was distro hopping, my search would have been over a long time ago, unfortunately my distro curiosity will continue to find more reasons why Arch is so good.
PS: I hesitated posting the above comments since it did not add anything new, but after seeing some of the threads, especially the newbie friendly vs. the user friendly, I had to cast my vote for what makes Arch so great. Arch is not that hard to use for anyone willing to take a few minutes to learn "The Arch Way". Arch has already done the hard work by creating great wiki's and helpful configuration files.
One of the help files even gave the reasons why things were done. Learning steps is OK, but understanding whats being done is important and fun.
People coming to Arch should not expect it to be Ubuntu. Ubuntu is great, but it already exists! As a newbie, I really resent SOME newbies wanting Arch to be more like Ubuntu. I even saw a post on an Ubuntu forum suggesting that they change directory names to things like "program files". I could go on, but I would just be ranting (raving). Long live the text installer and base install only!

By the way, I agree with the original poster about just about everything. I'm a Linux veteran having used it as my primary OS since Yggdrasil in 1994. And Arch suits my tastes very, very well.
OK youse guys, you caught me. I apologize for making such a bad New York centric joke, especially considering how many of this great community do not come from the Untied States, including Judd Vinet and many other current and former developers. Although I strive for a "KISS" style of writing, I find that I'm much too wordy and clunky, which is why I threw that in at the end. The Brueklineese part was a reference to the old Dutch spelling of what was latter to become Brooklyn New York.
I actually wrote the post 3 weeks ago, but never sent it because it was too wordy and did bring anything new to the Arch threads. After seeing some of the posts over the past month I felt compelled to cast "my vote" for why I like Arch so much and what makes it so special and unique. Hopefully Arch continues to stay true to its heritage and core principles. .
Hopefully a diversion is good once in a while.

Another BT engineer booked for tommorow afternoon.
hi, i have yet another engineer visit booked for tommorow afternoon, the combination of cold weather and the heavy winds weve been having have stirred up the intermitent fault that i have.One can only hope the engineer will discover the fault this time. I still have a kind of popping/static noise on my phone line also there is a kind of phone ringing noise but in static, the only problem is that its not constant and therefore theres more than a 90% chance that the engineer wont here it. We will see.
So , the ngineers been out, these were the worse pair of idiots ive ever seen lol,first, they didnt know what my faceplate was and told me i wasnt filtered, after arguing that the faceplate is the filter, they ran tests, never checked for the noise on my phone, cut out my cat6 cabling and replaced it with standard telephone cable, and swapped the drop wires round, only thing they succeeded in doing is making the upload speed worse, no change in anything else.Im having know more engineers.Im just waiting for fibre now, thats when the fun will really start because when i sync at 13meg or more i have no throughput.

Mac OS X has a built-in disk diagnostic and repair program called fsck or file system consistency check. Here’s how to verify and repair your startup disk with fsck. As soon as you hear the startup tone, press and hold Command-S on the keyboard. Keep holding down those keys until you see a black screen with white lettering. This is called “booting into Single User Mode.” As the Mac boots in this mode, the screen reports each step of the process. The line should end in root#. Right after the root# prompt, enter the following: /sbin/fsck -fy
If repairing the disk in single user mode fails, it means one of two things. Either your hard drive itself is failing (a hardware failure), or the directory damage on your hard drive is beyond the capability of the built-in repair procedures in OS X. -

I looked into it and figured out that the phone dials out nightly at 12:29am every night. I went into my settings and went to general..about..diagnostics and useage..then diagnostics and useage data to see this. I then clicked don't send...but I am still getting useage alerts. Can anyone help me please...
ThanksHonestly, from reading the thread linked, they all come off as a bunch of whiney people that cannot be bothered to help themselves.
Little to nothing in that thread indicates an issue beyond inept consumers. Yes, I read several pages on the incessant gripes. Very few made any actual attempts to troubleshoot issues before whining about the "Apple issue" and those that did actual troubleshooting got their issues resolved.
So no, Apple has nothing to fix beyond a few specific devices that are experiencing hardware issues.
If you have actually put forth effort and done the basic troubleshooting, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement. Whining will get nothing accomplished. -

According to your descriptioin, I don't think this is system problem, it should be Intel driver problem. It would be contact Intel to confirm this issue whether this is their driver problem.

All my Windows operating Systems are set to use the UI Culture: German
With Update-Help or Save-Help you can download PowerShell help in different (any) language by use of the –UICulture parameter.

Because my Windows OS is set to use the German UI Culture and the Cmdlet Get-Help depends on it, I cannot access PowerShell help in a different Language (English) with Get-Help.
There is still no translated German PowerShell help and even if I have installed the en-US verbose Help files I cannot use it (easily)!
I made a suggestion on Microsoft Connect to add the –UICulture Parameter to the Get-Help Cmdlet, to make it possible to call Help in a different language then the Windows Ui Culture.
As a workaround until then you can use the .NET Class [System.Threading.Thread]::CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture to set the UI Culture and get Help in a different language.
