Is ATTO 0096-PCBX-002 Ultra320 SCSI Controller Card For Apple PowerMac G5 pci-x ??

is ATTO 0096-PCBX-002 Ultra320 SCSI Controller Card For Apple PowerMac G5 pci-x ??

Is this an OEM card? ATTO web site does not list such a model.
Otherwise, you'll be better off with a ExpressPCI UL4D or UL4S. I have run a UL4D in my G4 MDD for years with absolutely no problem. You could get one from ebay for cheap.

• Dual ultra320 scsi controller

Hi all
I m trying to install new dual ultra320 scsi controller on Sun Fire c20z Server. But there is an error message
ERROR: EXPANSION ROM NOT INITALIZED
PCI MASS STORAGE CONTROLLER IN SLOT 02 BUS 03 DEVICE 01 FUNCTION 0.0
Pls help me to fix this Problem

Sorry rakman2, but your suggestions will not work with that system.
A Sun V20z is Intel Xeon based.
No OBP, and therefore no OBP commands or utilities (such as probe).
Let's just wait for hero to provide more information.
Edit:
Corrected a typo and noticed that it has been three months.
The original poster has not returned.
... and an error about a ROM on a peripheral usually means unqualified 3rd party hardware.

• SCSI drive on SCSI controller card wont mount using OSX leopard

My SCSI drive on a SCSI controller PCI card wont mount using OSX Leopard. It mounts fine using OSX Tiger 10.4.11
How can I make it mount on Leopard?

I have PowerMacs G4 Quicksilvers with SCSI drives running 10.5.8. They boot and run OK without an added driver, faster with an added driver for their ATTO cards.
What card are you using?

• Windows 7 fails to recognize Adaptec 39320 SCSI controller card.

I recently installed a new Motherboard in an existing system and installed Windows 7 Pro on it instead of Windows XP Pro that I had on the previous motherboard. The system included a Adaptec 39390D SCSI card
and 4 ultra320 SCSI drives. I downloaded the drivers for this card from Adaptec, there site says the driver is compatible with Windows 7. I then went to Device Manager and clicked on, clicked on Storage Controllers, Adaptec 39320-based Ultra 320
SCSI, and clicked update controller and received driver installed message.
Device Manager now shows "This device is working properly.", but
the drives do not show up in "Disk Management" were they showed up in previous installations on Windows XP Pro, for Importing.
The BIOS display during startup shows the controller and the connected drives.
This seems to be problem with Windows 7 Professional. If I made a mistake in installing the Adaptec driver would someone please tell me how to correct the problem.

Typically, and I could be wrong about this, you want to also update other drivers such as the Chipset (which the SCSI card may be plugged into as on onboard device) which will also be needed in order for the SCSI drives to be seen.
Did you install Windows 7 using installation media or did you use a deployment mechanism like Microsoft Deployment Toolkit to deploy the OS? If you used MDT, you can pre-package the device drivers (Adaptec drivers included) into the deployment to allow the
drivers to be installed during the initial install of the OS and not in the OS. This method is recommended to be used for plug-and-play driver installation.

• Serial ATA Controller Card for bigger hard drives on 8600/300

Hi again,
Can a Serial ATA Controller Card work on the PowerMac 8600/300 as well as on the G4 tower?
How can I tell if the PCI slots are the same?
Thanks
web dude

According to the specs listed for Sonnet's Tempo Serial ATA controller card, it's compatible with the early PCI Macs - like the 8600, as well as newer G3s, G4s, etc. The FirmTek SeriTek 1S2 SATA controller card has gotten favorable feedback in the Forums. The 8600's PCI slots are probably PCI 2.0-compliant, whereas the G4 AGPs probably have PCI 2.1-compliant slots. Even though the FirmTek card specifies PCI 2.2-compliant slots, it's undoubtedly backward-compatible. If you just want to use larger IDE/EIDE drives in your 8600, the (now-discontinued) Acard Ultra ATA-66 PCI controller card is an inexpensive solution at $25. Unlike the Acard Ultra ATA-133 controller card, it has the 128 GB limit, so a 120 GB drive is the optimal choice for it. Newegg has a Seagate 120 GB ATA-100 (8 MB Cache) hard drive for $55. I've got (3) 8600/300s and they were one of Apple's better-designed towers, especially with the large cooling fan in the side panel. I installed a G3/266 MHz processor in one, along with a pair of 4 GB hard drives, an ATI Rage 128 graphics card, and FireWire and USB PCI cards. It runs so well and quietly, that I'm reluctant to part with it - in spite of the fact that I rarely use it anymore. With the hard drive mounting plate on the bottom of the chassis floor, it can accommodate more hard drives than the shortened version of the same mini-tower case, used for the beige G3s.

• HBA SCSI Controller number instance

How do I control the SCSI controller number for an HBA?
Inserted identical HBAs into two Ultra 5 (same PCI slot #1), to begin building a test cluster.
The primary Sun comes up with c1t17d0 the secondary comes up with c2t17d0.
On the secondary I've removed the /etc/path_to_inst and c2t17 links on /dev/dsk & rdsk, rebooted -ar and it still comes up as c2t17...
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi there,
you could try this..
1)
Backup /etc/path_to_inst and then modify the file such that the only
scsi references that exist are for the boot drive. Remove all of the
"pcipsy" and "glm" entries except for the one that is used by the controller
that has the boot drive. KEEP A NOTE OF THE PHYSICAL PATH OF THE CONTROLLER
YOU WANT TO RENUMBER.
2)
Remove all /dev/dsk/cN* and /dev/rdsk/cN* where N is the controller number(s)
you want to nuke and possibly the number(s) of the controller that no longer
exists
3)
Remove all /dev/cfg/cN for all N EXCEPT the controller with the boot drive.
4)
Remove /devices for the controller you want to renumber, as indicated
in step 1.
5)
Remove /dev/sdNN* that symbolically link to controllers you don't want
anymore. (These are compatibility devices only.)
6)
Boot with "-srv" option.

Chris

• Controller Cards. Which Will Allow Booting?

I'm in the market for a controller card for my G4 Sawtooth/450. I just read elsewhere that it's a tough find for one that will allow an external drive to remain bootable.
I was looking at two controller cards the SIIG Serial ATA 4 cHANNEL PCI-M (#SIISCSA4M12) and the Sonnet Tempo ATA133 (#STITAT133). Will either work and still allow booting an external drive?
Thanks for any help,
Tony

Thomas,
I simply wanted to add a card to allow up to 4 drives and allow them to go past the 136mb wall. When I posted elsewhere (ok "I'm not worthy") I was told that an external drive (firewire) would no longer be bootable unless I went with a Firmtek card. I do boot off an external drive from time to time for diagnostics, thus my concern.
After posting here I called OWC and they said that they've never heard such a thing and that a Sonnet card would work fine.
The source may have been speaking of one of those combo controller+external firewire port cards, but I'm only assuming this.
I'll go for the Sonnet.
Thanks,
Tony

• Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI PCI-X Card

I'm connecting a SCSI backup tape drive to my Mac Pro. The tape drive instructions state that I'll need a SCSI host bus adapter. Will the Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI PCI-X card do the job or is a host bus adapter something different?

Are you sold on using tape? there is only one ATTO UL5D and you need PCI Express.
How about $99 for UltraSCSI 50-pin vs LVD Firewire to SCSI from Ratoc.

• GDT-SCSI Controller and 865G Neo2 PLS

Hi
I try to install a GDT-SCSI RAID (GDT6528RS) Controller on a 865G Neo2 PLS. While POST of the controller works fine (it detects all the SCSI Disks, says "1 Disk for BIOS"), I can not boot of the RAID. The BIOS simply does not even try. I selected "SCSI" in the BIOS as first in the boot order, but no boot sector gets detected. I already updated the Firmware on the SCSI Controller, I tried to update the mobo BIOS, but I'm not sure which one to take, as it says "BIOS > 3.x are not supported on 865G Neo2".
Has anybody a hint what I'm missing? The SCSI Card seems to need a PCI-Bus Master-Slot, there is nothing mentioned about one of those in the manual. May this be my Problem?
Thank you for your help
Flavio

I got the same issue here with a K8T-Master1 AMD64 Mainboard. The BIOS detects and displays the RAID-Controller (a ICP Vortex GDT8546RZ 4-Channel S-ATA RAID Controller), but regardless what is configured for bootup, the BIOS doesn't even try to boot from this (say SCSI) device. All worked fine with the old ASUS Mainboard before (CUBX-E). I will upgrade the BIOS now, and if this doesn't work either, i need a simple IDE "Boot-HDD", since this is a developer workstation and the RAID is very important.......

• Cannot configure SCSI controller

Hi, this task has landed on my desk and i have little or no knowledge of what this involves (lucky me). I am trying to configure a SCSI controller using the cfgadm command and it will not configure?
SCSI controllers and attached drives:
Ap_Id Type Receptacle Occupant Condition
c2 scsi-bus connected unconfigured unknown
Basically the host system is running solaris 9 and is connected to one half of a Storedge d1000 which i am trying to get running (disks not running at the moment on one side). I have been led to believe that i need to perform this configuration to get the disks up and running? The other side of the d1000 is connected to another host and is running fine. Any help/advice is much appreciated in advance.
Cheers.

Has the SCSI controller in that Solaris 9 system ever+ functioned with a D1000?
The D1000 is a HVD SCSI device, not LVD, not Single-Ended.
You may just be trying to use the wrong SCSI card.

Did you do a boot -r?
That will do a 'devfsadm' which does all the /dev stuff for you.
Do you have the latest Recommended patch kit to make sure all your drivers are up to date?

• Adaptec SCSI controller on Virtual XP mode

I am trying to get my SCSI HP ScanJet 3C/4C scanners to work on my PC. I just installed Win 7 64 bits Ultimate with the Virtual PC-XP mode I cannot get the driver to catch the SCSI controller as it is suposed to be "embedded" in Windows
XP (according to Adaptec) and thus cannot get separate drivers from Adaptec. It is an Adaptec AHA-2910C card.
It shows the card in the hardware manager of Win 7 but has no drivers for it. If I could at least get the XP mode to see it and install the driver , then I would be in good shape. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, that's just not possible, XP Mode running in Windows VPC cannot
see the real hardware of the PC. only virtual devices WVPC provides,
and pass through SCSI isn't one of the things provided.
VMWare Workstation may provide what you want, but I'm not sure about
any of the other VM solutions.
