Is ATV the right product for me?

I am a PC user and always have been - But I have come across a Apple product that might be abel to do what I have been looking for - The ATV. Can you confirm it for me please?
I have wireless net in the house - And to this network my PC with Windows XP in connected to. On here I have all my pictures and my video clips as my mp3 music.
My question is now - Can I, with the ATV, connect to my wireless network and then - from a shared disk on my pc - stream pic, video and music to a tv set?
Or DO I have to load it all onto the ATV local harddrive? and run it all though an iTunes application?
Looking forward to your answer.
Best regards - Happy holidays
Jesper

ATV is good, but MY GOD, does Apple keep shooting themselves in the foot! The lack of being able to play VIDEO_TS folders is absolutely RIDICULOUS!!! This would simply be a software update, but Apple feels that in some way, their precious iTunes Store would be compromised with lower sales!
NEWS UPDATE: If somebody is going to steal movies, they will find a way, regardless of how many roadblocks you put in their path. You will generally realize that, if someone steals movies, they will NEVER buy movies. It's just who they are. So why cripple a great product that thousands of honest users will use for a small percentage of people?
Apple still doesn't get it. These "Living Room" Media players are the future, and the quicker somebody gets it right, the quicker they will "OWN" the Living Room! Apple, with its iTunes Store, and ATV, are positioned to become the leader, but they keep screwing up! Jobs, get your head out of the sand, and open up the ATV to be what everybody wants it to be! I guarantee you will triple your sales overnight. Allow the USB to connect an external drive. Allow the ATV to talk to a NAS, just like a Mac Mini can. Make it so the ATV does not have to have a computer NOT in standby to work. 160GB HD is a joke! I have no problem with having that as the internal drive, but good god man, in today's world, let it talk to a NAS. If you are a movie lover, you NEED the higher capacities.
Anybody reading this, go to www.kaleidescape.com. This is the ULTIMATE movie system in the world PERIOD! Problem is, very expensive! $20,000 Plus! I sell these. Here is the funny thing though. The ATV, with a few Software modifications, could essentially do the same thing. Apple needs to contact somebody in my industry (Custom Home Theatre & Automation), pay them a consulting fee, so that they can get the computer minded engineers to think "OUT OF THE BOX".

  • Is this the right product for me?

    Hi All
Just considering Contribute and was wondering if this is the right product for my needs.
I've built a web site and need to add a retrofit CMS type function to some pages.
There's news, products and general page editing.
I can see News being straightforwards in Ct but not sure about the rest. It appears that an editor requires Ct whether they want to edit in a browser or not. Is this the case? Sort of defeats the purpose for browser editing doesn't it?
    Any comments are much appreciated.
    Thanks

ARD will not allow you print from your home system to your printers at work either. You could transfer the documents from your home system to your work system and then print, but you don't need ARD for that. File sharing, for transferring the documents, and the Screen Sharing built into Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 to take control of the work computer, would be all you need and wouldn't cost you anything additional.
If, however, you need the ability to "curtain" the screen at work, then you would need ARD. Another, somewhat less expensive, option would be Timbuktu.
    Regards.

  • Hi, is this the right product for enabling flash contents? I need support for my Harvard e-learnings pls.  After downloading Presenter, I get an error message 'Not a valid presenter' when I add the Harvard url.  Need help.

    Hi
Is there anothe product for enabling flash content.

    Pallavi,
Adobe Presenter is a plug-in application to MS PowerPoint that allows you to add video, audio, Flash and quiz content in to a presentation and then author it out as a Flash based presentation that can the be delivered to others via the web. You are asking about enabling Flash content. In what browser/application are you needing to enable Flash Content?
The 'Not a valid presenter' message is most likely due to you not have the rights to author content to Harvard's e-learning system, but without knowing if the URL is for a Connect account or some other e-learning platform, it's hard to give any useful insight.

  • What is the right product for me?

I recently received image discs from my daughter's wedding. all of the files are raw .cr2 files. I generally use a Pentax K100D to take photos. I am an amateur photographer. I would like to be able to make some adjustments to my photo's and occasionally create a slide show and have photo's printed. Do I need lightroom to handle this or is there another product that would be better for my needs?
    JJG

Adobe makes three products that could work here: Photoshop Elements, Lightroom and Photoshop. Other companies also make programs that will do these tasks.
You make it sound like this is a one-time need. If that's true, I would think that the Adobe products are overkill. In fact, to edit the photos you might want to look at freeware products like RawTherapee, and there are plenty of freeware slideshow applications.

  • What is the right product for the electronic form?

I need your help to choose an Adobe product.
I need a product that I create an electronic form as a purchase order and when necessary, open the source file, fill the fields and saved in electronic format with the fields filled. What Adobe product does that?
I do not need a product to the customer, is for internal company use.
    Thanks in advance.

    Todd,
    Thanks for the reply.
One question more: FormsCentral can be used for offline use, without relying on the internet or always depends on an external access?
    Thanks in advance

  • Is Airport Extreme the right product for me?

    Greetings, everyone:
Currently, I have an iMac G4 connected to a DSL internet connection via an Ethernet cable on a Linksys router. The router also feeds 2 iBook G4s in the house, as well as a Windows laptop.
After a lengthy call to their tech support dept., it appears the Linksys router is dead. I'm thinking of replacing it with Airport Extreme. Will I be able to use it in the same way as I currently use the Linksys (1 computer hardwired, 3 wireless?). Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The main limitation of the AEBS compared with other products is that it doesn't have a builtin switch. Many competitive products are just like the AEBS, but they allow 4 wired devices. If you have one wired device and lots of wireless, it's fine, but if you have two desktops or a desktop and server, you'll need a hub, switch or router in addition to the AEBS.
However I just moved from a Netgear wireless router back to an old AEBS. I was getting odd delays in packets. Moving to the AEBS (and changing authentication to WPA2) for wireless and an older Linksys switch/router seems to have fixed things.
One thing that impressed me about the AEBS is that the hardware hasn't become incompatible even after several years. They've added new features in firmware. So my old AEBS was updated to support WPA2. Few devices of its age would be upgradeable at this point.
I originally moved from the AEBS to the Netgear because I was having insufficient signal strength. Maybe my setup is different now, but the AEBS seems at least as good now.

  • Is Captivate the right product for me?

I am a college student, albeit an older one and I have previous IT experience as a network admin. I only say this so you know I'm not a total noob. So what I would like to do is become a course designer/creator for an adult/corporate audience. I am trying to teach myself various things as my school doesn't offer any classes on this sort of thing. I am pretty adept at Power Point animations and I have also been using a cloud-based service called Prezi to create a US citizenship informational class (more of a presentation, really). My goal is to make a few classes as a sort of e-portfolio for after graduation using 3 or 4 platforms. My next project is an English as a Second Language (ESL) class.
There are SO many different Adobe products that all look awesome in their own ways but of course they are expensive and I will be buying any software out of my own poor pockets. Additionally, I want to attend some instructor-led training at an Adobe training center in order to learn whatever product I use correctly. So, before I go to all that expense, do you guys think Captivate is the way to go? I mean, there's Authorware, the e-learning suite, Dreamweaver by itself, Presenter, etc. Based on my description of my goals, which product should I focus my time and money on?
    Thanks for all advice.
    - Roberta

    Hello again Roberta
I'm always baffled with folks that seem insistent on paying what a training center wants and traveling to the center. I've facilitated loads of classes virtually where we connect via screen sharing and I mentor as we go along and ultimately you end up with a better and more personalized result. You may ask questions at any time if you like, just like the classroom. But if you feel you must travel, pay extra and get dumped into a public class with however many others that may be present, it's your money and your time.
Just a heads up on this. Don't be surprised if you sign up for a class and you think you will be traveling only to discover that the class is later canceled. The way these training centers work is that they "bait the hook" by saying a class is scheduled for an arbitrary date. Then they sit back, wait and see how many folks express interest. Here's the kicker.
If not enough sign up, they cancel the class plain and simple and leave you hanging where you thought a class was going to happen. If enough folks do sign up, they then work their list of possible instructors to find one that will come and deliver the class. I'm one of several they may use. I'm certified by Adobe for RoboHelp and for Captivate.
Some training centers regularly use instructors that, while are certainly certified by Adobe, they aren't certified for Captivate. They may be certified for some other Adobe product such as Flash or Photoshop. This means that these instructors don't know the ins and outs of Captivate and will will essentially just read you the book.
Indeed I've facilitated many classes in Atlanta as well as many other locations for many different training companies.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Not sure if this is the right product for my needs! Can someone help me out

Im a graphic designer who lives an hour away from my permanent employer. To help cut down on travel expenses and to get through the horrible winters we have I want to be able to access my work computer from home. Specifically be able to access files on my work computer as well as print the files that are on my home and work computers to the printers at my work.
I tried gotomypc.com and you cant print remotely. I am on a free trial of logmein.com and I find it not user friendly at all. Im able to print remotely just fine but I dont like how open and unguarded my computer is without a black out screen or curtain mode.
Is Apple Remote Desktop a good fit for my needs or is there some other software out there?

ARD will not allow you print from your home system to your printers at work either. You could transfer the documents from your home system to your work system and then print, but you don't need ARD for that. File sharing, for transferring the documents, and the Screen Sharing built into Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 to take control of the work computer, would be all you need and wouldn't cost you anything additional.

  • Have I purchased the right product?

I currently own Adobe CS3. I purchased Adobe Volume Licensing on 17/2/12. I understood that this is a yearly subscription that will allow me to upgrade CS3 to the latest version on both my desktop Mac and my laptop. I have received an email explaining that my order has been processed, but when I click the link to install software licenses and try to retrieve a serial number I just get a message saying "No data matches your search criteria. Please try again!".
    a) have I puchased the right product for my requirements?
    b) if I have purchased the correct product why can't I download the upgrade?
Thanks in advance for your help!

The link is working. Just hang on for a while and the Yellow chat now button will appear when an agent is available to take your call.
Or go to http://www.adobe.com/uk/support/contact/ and choose an issue under AVL from the drop down list.

  • Is time capsule the right thing for me?

I am looking for extra storage to go along with the new macbook air I just purchased.  Is time capsule the right product for me?  I basically want to keep movies and other videos but not use up the hard drive space on my laptop.  I want to be able to backup my computer and also access the files when necessary.

time capsule does back ups of ALL your data on a periodic basis. If you are just storing vids  and music etc, you probably don't want to look at using time capsule. time capsule is there if you have an issues with your mac, and you need to restore all your data.
i suggest just getting a normal external hard drive about 1terrabyte and don't sync it with time capsule.

  • Web for Forte - what is the right product?

We are using Web Enterprise on a new application and on another existing
    Forte application.
Concerning our experiences on the new application:
    1) Watch what version of Forte and WE you use. Earlier that 3.M.2 and WE
E.1, we experienced a page truncation bug (that Forte admitted was their
    bug).
    2) Upgrades between Forte versions have been difficult as each upgrade means
an upgrade to the WE pieces. The only way we have been successful in these
upgrades is by recreating the repository, creating the new HTTP/HTML
libraries/projects, and importing (in order) our projects. This is time
consuming. It would be nice if Forte did not force the WE upgrade when the
    Forte version changes.
    3) As of yet, we have not been able to get a load balanced Web Access SO to
work. The help desk has suggested using a higher port number range (from
1780 up to 6000) but we haven't tried this yet.
Concerning our experiences with the existing application conversion:
    1) The GUI interface of a windows application and a browser application are
basically different. There are things that are easy in a std GUI that are
much more difficult with a browser. So, if using std HTML, typically the
    application will behave somewhat differently.
    2) We used JavaScript within our HTML to do some basic editing within the
browser. This was much easier than doing std HTML to Forte for every type
of edit. In fact, we even used Forte to dynamically generate JavaScript in
    certain circumstances.
    3) We did NOT use Java at all.
    4) The Forte application we are converting is old (4+ yrs) and was not
designed in the ideal way. Much of the processing logic and sql is embedded
inside windows. My point is that if the architecture of the existing
application is 'good' (good separation of pure GUI functions from business
rules from db access), then moving to WE can be fairly easy. If every Forte
window operation calls some method rather than invoking inline code, then
that is a good step. If every window operation calls some external
(non-window) method, then that is even better. That makes the replacement
of the Forte GUI with a browser based GUI much easier.
    5) We tested, very briefly, the Window Converter operations of WE. It did
seem to work but we really could not utilize this facility because of the
poor design of the Forte GUI. We would have been forced to re-write our
existing GUI to take advantage of this.
    6) We are attempting to reuse what we can from the existing application but
we are also taking advantage of this rewrite to implement a cleaner
architecture within a newly developed framework.

    Hi Forte Experts
We are developing an application in 'pure' Forte 4GL, but have now reachedthe point >where some 20 windows must also be used from a WWW interface,
both for dataentry and >lookup of info.
So what is the right product(s) to look for / buy? Forte for Java ,WebEnterprise, >WebEnterprise Designer or is the functionality already in
30M2 and all we need to do >is to open the documentation-kit...?
    Suggestions or War-stories are welcomed...
    thanks

I did not find the right place for my question but Is Apple's products are shipped to the Gulf States by  Aramex ?

An absolute URL will be a complete URL, it traces from the abosulte root of a file's location on a server...
    http://www.thesite.com/assets/images/Front_Page_Rotating_Banner/banners.xml
A relative URL is anything short of including the http://domain..., and is read relative to wherever the file using it exists
    assets/images/Front_Page_Rotating_Banner/banners.xml
In Flash files though, relative links need to be specified relative to the HTML page that embeds the swf.  So if the swf is in a different folder than the html page that embeds it, the swf's targeting must be adjusted as if it were actually in the html file's folder.

  • Can anyone point me in the right direction for the link to download Acrobat 9 Standard?  I found the link to download 9 Pro but not standard.  Old computer crashed and new computer does not have a CDR/DVD rom drive.

    Hi,
Standard or Pro would be licensed through your serial number, the download link and downloaded file would be the same for both of them.
Pro or Standard would be determined after you put in your serial number.
    Download Acrobat products | 9, 8

  • Help with choosing the right specifications for a Macbook Pro Retina?

    Opinions needed....
So I'm new to Macs, but I know what I want to achieve and I feel this is the right route to choose. I'm looking at delving into the world of music production, using Logic pro 9 and garageband, but I also enjoy watching High definition Movies and televison so I know that the Retina display is definatley the right choice for me. However, I'm unsure on the amount of RAM & Which processer I should choose. I have read a fair bit on forums and online about the new retina macbooks being 'locked' from upgrading, so the 16GB of RAM is an immediate choice for logetivity.
The choice of processor is when I start to become clouded in my choice. As forementioned, I'm looking at running logic pro, as well as high def movies. There is also a possibilty at looking into photo and video editing, Whether that be in final cut pro or photoshop... But I want to leave my options open.
I think the choice of 16GB of RAM, 2.6Ghz processor, with a 256GB hard drive ( as i have 1.5TB external space) would be a good choice. Once I've added on applecare that comes out at around £2350, Which is a significant investment, but one that I think will help me immensely for the future. I am interested in other peoples opinions on my possible choice because, as I said before, I'm new to the world of Macs and making the right choice is essential. As a side note, the choice of upgrades also ensures a reasonable resale value, which is a bonus.
    Regards

Both power adapter I have are different (at the magnet end) from the one in link.
Earlier adapters have T shaped connectors, which Apple later changed to the L shape, presumably to make them more abuse-proof. Either one is fine and the one you are using will not damage your Mac.
Retina MBPs and new MBAs use a completely different MagSafe 2 connector which will not fit (without an adapter).

Oh, then you can't unless you know someone with a Mac you could use for a moment or 2. (Like at the Apple Store)
