Is Auto Adjust clip lengths a possibility?

Is it possible to auto adjust clip lengths, something like Select All and Auto Adjust to a given length? I goofed around with a variety of clip lengths and would like to revert to the default length without manually adjusting every clip.

I actually liked having a variety of lengths that went with the timing of the music, but the built in zooms and fades didn't work with what I did. Also, it seemed like reducing clips down to 1 second caused the replay to look jumpy.

  • Adjusting clip length  AND shift menu markers accordingly

The logical workflow is to first edit the clips and then to share the movie to a DVD. If corrections afterwards are necessary, any change to the length of a clip causes the clips afterward to shift. But the menu markers don't shift accordingly. All menu markers need to be re adjusted
Is there a way to adjust the length of a clip so that any menu marker later in the move will move by the same amount?

    Unfortunately not.

  • Adjusting clip length

When I try to fine tune the front of a clip in timeline, the blue selection changes to the previous clip and adjusts the end length of the previous clip instead. This happens whether or not I hold down the command key. I'm using iMovie HD. Thanks for any assistance possible!

This is iMovie '09 Forum, BTW. If you are using iMovie HD (version 6) you might want to post there.
If you are using iMovie '09 (version 8.0) you can use the Clip Trimmer or the Precision Editor, besides the Fine Tune.
What source are you editing with? How did you shoot your movie?

  • Unable to adjust clip length by dragging

Please help me.. I am no longer able to drag the still photo clips in iMovie 5.0.2 to length, they just move up and down the time line. I have been able to adjust them willy-nilly in the recent past but no longer. Did i wear it out? What's the simple solution?

Hi Tedious Tom - just to add a little to Bengt's post - do not have 'Show Clip Volume Levels' activated either. Also, of course, you cannot lengthen the image beyond its originally-set duration by using this direct trimming method.

  • Adjusting Clip/Photo length in iMovie 11

Hello, I am a new mac user, I am using iMovie 11 on OS lion.
Is there a way to adjust clip length/photo duration by simply clicking and dragging? I find it really annoying to have to enter the duration manually for still photos. Equally annoying is the 'clip trimmer' option. On movie maker, I used to be able to drag a clip so that it shunted the rest of the project along on the timeline, I dont seem to be able to do this on my mac.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers.

  • Photo clip lengths - trouble adjusting!

I have a new project consisting of 80-100 photos, all with a transition in between. Via Project Properties (Apple Key - J), I can set the photo duration but it's only in even increments -- 2 seconds, 3 seconds, 4 seconds, etc. I want to pick 2 1/2 seconds but the slider scale won't let me do that.
If I try to select just a photo properties (Apple Key - R) manually, from 2:00 to 2:50, it auto-adjusts it to 3:20. Having it set to that (or higher) makes the overall project runtime too long. Can I get it to something between 2 and 2 1/2 seconds??

There is an interplay between clip length or photo length and the length of transitions.
For example, if you have two photos each with length 4 seconds and 0 frames, and a transition between them of 30 frames (1 second), then each photo will have a length of 3 seconds and 15 frames. Note: this behavior can be changed in either Preferences or Project Properties: I can't remember which (this applies to clips).
Further, when you set the length of the photo to 2:50, you are really setting it to 2 seconds and 50 frames. In the NTSC system, one second is approximately 30 frames, so 50 frames yields 1 second and 20 frames ( or a total of 3 seconds and 20 frames, as you observed.)
Two and a half seconds in this notation would be 2:15.

  • No longer able to adjust the length of a video clip in imovie 6 HD

Without warning (or reason) I can no longer adjust the length of a video clip (new or old) in imovie. I've tried the old way of highlighting the clip and putting the cursor at the start or end, but the cursor doesn't change. I've also tried double clicking on the clip but then the length is fixed.
This problems happens in new and old movies and remained after I deleted and reinstalled imovie.

I searched further using the correct word (trim) and found that I had to turn off the audio levels

  • Auto adjust in PV 2012 results in highlight clipping

Is there any control over the Auto adjust process in PV 2012? I'm using ACR 7.4. The Auto adjustment on the Basic panel seems too hot - by perhaps 1/2 to 2/3 f-stop (net effect on the histogram) and it usually results in a significant amount of highlight clipping. Auto adjust using PV 2010 seems more reasonable.
For example, using the same image, here's a comparison of the Auto settings:
    PV 2012: Exposure +1.15, Contrast -9, Highlights 0, Shadows 0, Whites +41, Blacks -45
It results in some highlight clipping.
    PV 2010: Exposure +1.10, Recovery 0, Fill 0, Black +10, Brightness 0, Contrast +35
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks Frank. And I concur with Robert Shomler: auto-toned settings may not be usable "out of the box", but it can sometimes help to see what auto-toner would do with the various settings, especially whites, but also contrast and highlight/shadows (and blacks).
Sometimes I get stuck in a rut, and hit auto-tone, and go oh-yeah, I'm banging my head against a wall because I need more whites and less exposure, etc... (at which point I usually undo the auto-tone and continue manual toning, but more enlightened...),

  • Can I auto adjust the slide length to match my music length?

Can I auto adjust the slide length to match my music length?

There is no way to automatically do this, but if you have a calculator, you can figure it out.
If you are NTSC (USA), figure 30 frames per second. For PAL (Europe) figure 25 frames per second.
So here is an example in NTSC. Say your music is 3:31, this is equal to 211 seconds or 6330 frames.
If your slideshow has 155 slides, then each slide should last about 41 frames or 1 second and 11 frames.
You can change the duration of the slides to 1:11 and apply to all slides.
(Note: To edit at the frame level, go into iMovie Preferences and choose to display time as hhL:mm:ss:frames)

  • What is the "Auto adjust White Clip" slider for?

    The Aperture manual says:
Auto adjust White Clip slider: Use the “Auto adjust White Clip” slider and value slider to add tolerance to Auto Levels adjustments when evaluating colors beyond white.
But I don't know what they mean with "add tolerance". What is it intended to do?

"Auto Levels" analyses your Image and applies a Levels adjustment based on a preset algorithm (similar to "Auto-enhance" in iPhoto, for example).  The Auto adjust White Clip slider allows you to set what percentage of pixels will be set to full-luminance.  (Hover your cursor over the slider for a ToolTip.)
This is very easy to see in practice.  Select an Image with no adjustments applied, and duplicate it.  Then with the Auto adjust White Clip slider set to the left, click "Auto" in the Levels Brick.  Select the other Image, change the slider all the way to the right, and "Auto-Levels" that Image.  Compare the two.  Be sure to compare the histograms in the Levels Bricks: this shows you mathematically what the difference is.

  • ? Flash CS4, Is it possible to adjust the length of multiple timelines at once?

    Hi,
I am using Flash CS4. Is there any way to adjust the length of multiple timelines at once? I am doing an animation of leaves falling from a tree. The leaves alone have 17 separate timelines on separate layers plus each has it's own guide layer.
If I had the ability to to select all of the timelines together and adjust all of their respective start and end times at the same same time, relative to each other as well as separately, life would be so much easier!
Of course I can do it timeline by timeline, no problem, but I can't seem to adjust the length of more than one timeline at a time. (no pun intended)
Even when I select more than one timeline, the double arrow only adjusts the length of one timeline. Even each guide layer's length has to be adjusted separately. I understand the benefit of this, but, testing timing and making adjustments would be so much simpler and go so much faster if I could select and drag multiple timeline lengths at the same time.
Is there any way to do this?
I'm new to Flash so, thanks in advance for your patience with me!
    SabelV

Thanks! I had a feeling. It's nice to have the answer. Oh well, now I can get back to work and not waste any more time with that part of the puzzle. You've been very helpful and I'm sure your answer is correct.  Wish I knew how to rate your answer even higher. Thanks again!

  • How do you reset the Work Area Bar to auto adjust?

This is something that's been a thorn in my side for a while. Maybe I'm just being OCD about it... but I've been wondering if there is a way, once you reposition the I / O points of the Work Area Bar (WAB) you can get Pr to go back to auto adjusting it to the end of your clip.
You can double-click it to get it to expand to the full length of the sequence, if you remember to do that... Sometimes I'm in a rush, or I have 10 sequences and I miss the fact that my WAB is not all the way to the end. I select and batch drag them all to Media Encoder and *POW*... I've forgotten to stretch the Out to end on one sequence ... and I have to re-render. A pain, yes, something I should have double checked, but at 2am these things can get missed.
So, can you get the Work Area Bar to auto adjust again?
If yes, it's probably something ridiculously obvious – but I'll take it!
    Thanks
    Stephen

I would have an issue with auto or a default  for a number of reasons.
    Not least this one...
I now place dummy clip ( black video)  a  distance off the end of my sequence to prevent the End of Sequence Marker displaying at the end of my edited material.  I dont want that included in an export.
    Here is another...
As I get to lock down and I am sending previews to clients...I insert Black Video head and tail of the edit so that the preview does not start  jarringly on first frame video.  I have I and Os marked so that I can simply  export "Program at length (without black head and tail) when I  come to master.
    and...
Often I have edit versions (TVCs) on the same time line ( sequence) and I need to adjust WAB or I/Os to export them separately.
Automating stuff to eliminate our dumb moments doesnt help much because it just opens the chance of another dumb moment driven by expectation and forgetfulness. .
Mental checklist is the only way IMHO.

  • Audio clip length issue in iMovie 09

I made a very short (1:39) video with a sound file from my iTunes library. The length of this audio file is exactly 1:39. The video was originally made on my MacBook Pro; I then copied the event folder as well as the Project file to the respective folders on my Mac Pro (which has the same iTunes library as my laptop). I viewed the video, and because everything was fine, I uploaded it to my mobile me gallery. So far so good.
A few days later, I wanted to create a standalone version of the video, so (on my Mac Pro), I exported an HD version. When I played that export, the sound ended thirteen seconds before the end of the video. I went back to check, and it turned out that my audio file now showed 1:26 in length. I deleted it, and picked it up again from the iTunes browser within iMovie. Even though the length clearly showed as 1:39 in the iTunes browser, it reverted to 1:26 in the project window with no obvious way to adjust the length.
I dragged the Events folder and project file for this video to the desktop of the Mac Pro and copied the ones from the MacBook Pro to the Mac Pro again, putting them both in their respective proper location. Even though the sound was perfect on the laptop, it once again showed a length of only 1:26 in the project window on Mac Pro.
Next, I tried to remove the iMovie prefs file, but it seems that in that case, the application forgets about all its events and projects, so I quickly restored it. I cannot use the Prefs file from my laptop as there are only a couple of videos that are common to both machines.
The real question is: other than in the project file, where could information about the length of a sound clip be stored? Why is it not possible for me to copy events folder and project file from my laptop to my desktop Mac even though this worked perfectly up to now? I tried the option in the inspector to restore the sound clip to its original state, and it did not do anything (I believe that option only affects normalization, anyway).
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what else I can try?
    Daniel

I also have this problem. It seems to be a bug in version 8.0.6. Before that everything worked fine. Deleting preferences didn't help. When closing iMovie and re-opening it works for a while, but then soon audio skimming suddenly disappears.
Please send also bug report to make sure Apple would prioritize fixing this. In iMovie menu there is a selection 'Provide iMovie feedback'

  • Auto adjust column width in multicolumn listbox

    Hi
May I know, does multicolumn listbox has a function / control to auto adjust the column width?  If not, how can I solve this problem, as user could not view the full data if the width that I set is too small. It would be annoying if the user need to adjust it manually each time they get the data from database....
    Any advise??? TQQQQQ......

    Hello 222,
I've already seen a few threads about "auto adjust multi-column listbox column width", as far as I can remember, there is not such option in LV 7.1 (I don't know about LV 8).
Meanwhile I think there are option that can allow the user the modify column width at runtime. This plus an horizontal scrollbar should be the alternative... I know it is not "perfect" for the user.
You also have the possibility to do a function that will compare the string length to the column width, and to programatically increase the width if needed.
Personnaly I wouldn't go for this but this is your choice
