Is batch automation possible in lightroom?

I'm converting about 800 pictures from color to black and white for a bible study that will be printed . Ive tried several ways of converting using modes and techniques I found on other sites in photoshop but wasnt happy with results. These pictures are of landscapes and people. They all seemed either fuzzy or detail was lost so I decided to give Lightroom a try. I found lots of presets in the adobe marketplace for b & w conversion and wanted to know if batch automation was possible once I found one that I was happy with.

Which preset works best for black and white conversion of portraits?
That will depend on each image really, just experiment to find the one that works best for your purposes, it will depend on the file type as well - some are developed for raw and others for jpeg or tiff files. You can undo the application of a preset easily withe the usual undo command. Try testing on a Virtual Copy of one image.

  • Batch Automation, can it create multiple folders?

using CS2...I know how to create actions and use the Batch Automation thing but not sure how or if this is possible...
I have a ton of folders in one folder. inside each folder are a bunch of TIF files. I want to create an action to run as a batch to open that TIF, convert it to JPG then save in a separate folder with the same name in another folder. Basically im duplicating what I have in one folder to another folder with one being the original TIFs and the new set being JPG, all in folders of the same names.
Basically I know how to do all of this except when I set up the batch, it seems to only allow the new JPGs to be saved in a single folder. It can pull all the TIFs using the "include subfolders" in the source section but only places the new/revised file into a single folder. If this makes and sense, can it be done?

    Lark:
Bob's undoubtedly right. You can do this from bridge. To mirror the structure you duplicate it, action it (from Bridge?) and then you're done. To do it with Photoshop:
    1. Duplicate structure ("Big folder" becomes "Big folder copy"). Save "Big folder" as backup.
    2. Make an action by opening one of your pics, and then recording an action. Save as JPEG with the settings as you want. Stop recording. Close window and delete test JPEG.
    3. Automate...batch. Use your new action. Source is folder "Big folder copy". Make sure to select "embedded folders". Don't check anything else in the source area. Destination is "Save and close" and make sure to check the "override save options" box.
    4. Run it. Then you should be able to use Spotlight to search for all .tif files in folder "Big folder copy" and delete them from Spotlight.
I'm sure this is much slicker some other way (maybe even with image processor). But it works.

  • Frequency Analysis - batch automation Query

    Hi,
I was wondering if its possible within adobe audition to automate a process of performing frequency analysis on a batch of audio files and saving the frequency analysis windows in individual bmp files?
There is a file batch utility which I am aware of for processing groups of files. However with the frequency analysis window - the only way of saving this window is by Alt-PrintScreen and manually saving file to another bitmap package.
Is anyone aware of a way/system/tools of achieving this ?
    Thanks for any suggestions

    ok, thanks for the tip.

There's no way of doing this within Audition, but I think that there are external batch process programs that might let you do this using Audition - if you see what I mean. I don't personally do things like that, but maybe somebody who does could recommend one? Alternatively, and probably rather a better bet, re-ask the question on the AudioMasters forum. You are more likely to get a meaningful response, quite frankly.

  • Recording Actions and Batch Automation Issues

I'm not getting proper results when performing a batch automation on several images.
I've recorded an action performing several image modifications, these modifications are:
    1. I've set the Background layer and named it L1
2.I resized the image from 1600X1200 to 150X113
    3. I resized canvas size to 150X150
    4. I duplicated layer L1 and named it MIRROR
    5. I Transformed "MIRROR" layer by flipping it vertically
    6. I moved the "MIRROR" layer down until I obtain the proper mirror effect
    7. I saved the image as jpeg
    8. I stoped recording
    Now when I tryied doing:
Open several images of size 1600X1200/File/Automate/Batch
    with the following settings:
    -source: open files
-destination: folder (i chose a folder)
-Override action "Save as Commands" checked
The images were resized properly, the canvas size was correct layer was duplicated, and flipped vertically but MIRROR layer was not moved enough so I didn't get a perfect mirror effect.
There must be something wrong with the way I move my MIRROR layer when I record the action? Is there a way of moving an image by a number of pixels instead of using the keyboard arrows?
    Thanks for any help

    So it worked:
But now I have another challenging question.
How can i apply a gradient effect and have it recorded and apllied as automate/ batch to several images?
The effect I'm trying to obtain is this:
    steps I recorded are:
    1. Created a new layer and called it "background"
    2. I applied a gradient to "background" dragging the cursor from to to bottom and from middle to bottom again
    3. I arranged my layers so I can see the "mirror" layer
    4. I added a mask to the layer
    5. I applied gradient on the layer dragging the cursor from middle of image to bottom.
    I recorded the whole thing
It works on the original image in automate batch processing but for other images I get a white background or no change on the mirror layer???

  • Looking to repete serial numbers in batch automation

    Hello,
I hope this is the correct forum to post my question to. Basically I'd like to have the save as serial numbers repete in my batch automation, so appending the files with 1-9 and then starting back at one. I thought I'd be able to accomplish this using a 1-digit serial, however if I batch process more than nine images it forces a second digit in the serial. I'm dealing with a large image bank that I need to sort, so this would be a huge time saver. Thanks!

You didn't get back about your contact sheet process… Anyhows I had a spare 15 mins this morning and heres how I would look at doing this… You may be able to do this too…? A script you can run in the ESTK as is or it could be added to a menu item if you wanted… With you images loaded in active bridge window… This should sort to Nth number of collections… These are just arrays of file aliases so nothing is actually moved yet… You can trash the collections too if you dont like them… If it does what you want you can select all the files of each collection and use the output panel to create contact sheets… or drag to move/copy the files on your system…

  • Batch processing - HDR feature Lightroom 6 - Is this possible?

We shoot a lot of real estate interiors; is there a way to batch process sets of images (in this case 5 per shot) in Lightroom 6. I did vaguely remember seeing a video from Adobe saying that you could line up the new shot when the first was merging but that's not feasible for large batch runs and given that I am affected by the AMD Radeon problem, I would like to automate the process and not wait 4 hours to process a batch. All tips and suggestions welcome., thank you in advance.

Some others have asked for that -- add your vote and opinion to this topic in the official Adobe feedback forum: LIGHTROOM - Batch HDR
Also, I don't think the GPU is being used to accelerate HDR and panoramas: GPU notes for Lightroom CC (2015). So you're not missing out on that score.

  • Batch Automating Design update on 1000 InDesign files- Any ideas?

I have just been brought in to a new company that issues one page (and separately saved) biographies using inDesign. The biographies use a standard style, with a great deal of reoccurant information (company details, logo etc) and then some personal info that makes up the biography.
The company recently underwent a re-brand which now means some 1000 of these biographies are displaying incorrect logos, colour schemes, font, watermark, contact information and company details.
I want to amend this, upgrading them to the new style guidelines. And for my personal sanity would like to automate the process as much as possible. Any ideas on how best to tackle this would be greatly appreciated!
    My thoughts are as follows:
Partial Automation: - Perhaps I can export swatches, colour profiles and font settings from the updated templates and retrospectivly apply them to all the old ones. This would get me a good deal of the way there... but would still leave an issue on changing all new company details. If I could apply this in bulk I could flag the files for a small amount of editing next time they're needed.
Partial Automation: - Perhaps with a better understanding of the master pages tools I could create a default collection of swatches and space layout and import data into certain fields manually?
Full Automation: - I would love it if some combination of the above and InDesign scripts were possible to use to achieve this... but I am not optimistic. Perhaps the better idea is to use the exportallstories.js script to scrape all the relivant data from my old files. From there I would need to write a python file to identify the relivant fields (namely: Name, Title, biography). I could then migrate these details to a spreadsheet and save it as a .csv file. From here I might finally be able to re-import it back into my new template style using the <<Automated Data merge>> functions! It's a bit hieth robinson and would require some careful thinking on python expressions to get everything into .csv correctly.... but I think it's crazy enough to work. Any assistance on ideas here... or ideas about how I automate this to batch export to RTF (without 1000 tiedious "ok" dialog box clicks) would be greatly appreciated.
Any help, advice or pointers to relavant literature would be greatly appreciated.
    Other Info:
    I am on CS5
    Windows 8 (i know... i know...)
I can get a python IDE up and running pretty quickly
Am happy to migrate this to my native linux for some parts of this process if there are tools/i can use the command line to get things done quicker!
    Thanks
    aBoL

Thanks all for the replies, it's given me a great deal to think on.
I have discoved some of this information is helpfully stowed on their website. Am going to contact the IT guy... if i could scrape right off it or better yet get access to their mySQL or whatever perhaps that'd be the fastest way to make my magic .csv and then batch import all.
    As for plans b-z:
Eugene Tyson I looked into what you suggested about using books. I've still got a problem with importing all to one file if anyone knows a handy script that'd be much appreciated. I still obviously need to read up on master pages, when i've been dragging the style it seems to sandwich both the new style and old style together... so perhaps the data in isn't clean enough anyway (cleaning +1000 files would probably take longer than ctrl+c ctrl+v on all of em)
Peter, you're exactly right. Dirty in dirty out on data right? I've found that given that these files were all made with the same workflow, there is a great deal of consistancy. If its 100% i cannot yet tell, but if i export using the story export .js it seems to me i could either scalp off the bottom most five files (which seem to inevitably contain the valued data) or ponder clever if statements that will detect if it's got something that might be a name or just our latin placeholder text. But yes... i figure whatever a good deal of checking will be invovled.
Ariel, Your help would be greatly appreciated and I will pm you and anyone else who would be willing to get stuck into this challenge!! The main one for me right now would be the automated importing of files in bulk into a single story... perhaps the automated use of the other story export script... or if you were feeling extremely talented, doing all the work in indesign itself, opening files in sequence in a folder, stripping out the contents according to rules (that we could base on the regularity of it's content) or placement (they're generally in the same area) and saving that out to a txt file or even better a .csv!!
anyway I'm teetering between this being a fun challenge and a utter nightmare, but the looming idea of manual data entry is enough to propel me on. Any help / discussion or further thoughts would still be vastly appreciated!
thanks all and have a great weekend.

  • I want to know if I can batch HDR process in Lightroom CC as I do currently with LR/Enfuse.

Hi all, I have recently downloaded the trial version of Lightroom cc and am very impressed by the HDR capabilities. Currently I am using LR/Enfuse which allows me to stack multiple images in groups of five and then set LR/Enfuse to process all these stacked sets and output full-size JPGs ready for finishing. I would much prefer to use Lightroom since it produces DNG files but, as someone who does real estate shoots, I really think it's vital that I can set Lightroom to do the HDR work on all these sets of stacked images and come back half an hour later to find them all output is DNG's. Is such a thing possible? It really makes the difference between signing up for CC instead of sticking to Lightroom five.
    Thanks for any help.
    Phil

No, there is no batch HDR like in Enfuse although it would be a great option.  As a side note, the LR HDR has been working good for me but I think LR/Enfuse does a better job for what I need.  It also does focus stacking for me for my Landscape photos and works well for that.  Seems like Lightroom could do this too using the same HDR tool with some extra coding to look for contrast instead of luminescence as Enfuse does.  All the new tools (Face Detection, HDR and Pano) are now only "sort of useable"  but they will probably improve as Lr6 seems it is REALLY a beta release and hopefully they will use the feedback given to make changes and  do some MAJOR bug fixing in the next couple release unlike the past.

  • Is Automation possible in SAP BW

    Hi,
I am working in BW testing (manual testing). Is there any way that BW automation testing (like using ECATT, QTP tools)can be done?
Can anyone help me out in this.

    Hi,
Automation is possible ECATT, QTP tools but ECATT it's old version it gives a comparison on the screens expected and the messages if any and it cannot compare the values.
QTP and SAP TAO is the latest versions if you use QTP we will write QTP script.

  • Is Full Automation Possible In DIAdem V9.1?

    Hi all
I wonder if i can fully automate my DIAdem V9.1 application.
Here's what i have at the moment:
From time to time a wIndows application writes a new datafile containing ASCII data to the PC's harddrive.
The files are named 00001-Date.daf, 00002-Date.daf, 00003-Date.daf...  and so on.
The .daf file is nothing exotic, it's simply an ASCCI file containig data for two channels. I use the extension .daf only
to get a unique file extension.
Then i doubleclick on the DIAdem icon.
I have modified the destination path of the icon in this way:
    "C:\Programme\National Instruments\DIAdem 9.1\DIADEM.exe" "/CScriptStart('"E:\DIAdemWork\Manni01.vbs"')"
DIAdem starts, and runs the Manni01.vbs script.
The script will open a FileNameGet dialogue, and the user has to select one of the .daf files.
The selected .daf file will automatically be imported, displayed and analysed.
This works fine, but, as you see, the user has to select the file to be imported.
Since this has to be done inside DIAdem, it cannot be automated further.
It would be much nicer, if the name of the file to be processed could be transferred to DIAdem as
a program start parameter, similar to the name of the starting script.
The other application could then start DIAdem with this filename as a parameter. DIAdem could
process the datafile and NO user interaction would be required to select the file.
As a nice side-effect, a simple double-click on a .daf file in windows explorer could also open
DIAdem and automatically process the data.
How can i transfer a filename to DIAdem at startup?
Note: The filename must be recognizable in the autostart script, and there must be a way
to examine IF a file was given as a parameter.
    Manfred

    Hi Manfred,
Here are a couple of hacks you might be able to put together to get to where you are trying to get:  First it is possible to hack the registry to start the program you want to start when a file with a given extension is double clicked from the explorer.  Second it is possible to set a variable in DIAdem from the comand line.
Hacking the registry (You should only do this if you really know what you're doing.  Just playing around could really mess up your system.)
    1.) Open regedit.
2.) Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and create a key called ".daf".  Set its value to anything you want -- I suggest "daffile"
3.) Also in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT create a key called "daffile" (or whatever you chose in step 2 for the value).
4.) In the new daffile key create a key called "shell".
5.) In the new shell key create a key called "Open" (or whatever you want).  The name of this key will be used by explorer in the context menu item for files of this type.
6.) In the new Open key create a key called "command".
7.) Set the value of this key "command" to the startup command for DIAdem.  Using the start up string you suggested below, this would be "C:\Programme\National Instruments\DIAdem 9.1\DIADEM.exe" "/CScriptStart('"E:\DIAdemWork\Manni01.vbs"')"
In the command key, %1 can be used to represent the file that was clicked.  You could theoretically set a DIAdem variable to the file name using this fact.  The command line argument would probably look something like /CT1:=%1.  (in the old AUT autosequence syntax.)  Then you can access the variable that you set using this in your script.  I haven't tried the command line  out, so you'll probably have to tweak it a bit.  I'm pretty sure you can send two commands in the command line.
The drawback to this approach is that it will probably always start a new DIAdem and not open your file in a DIAdem which is already open.
    Hope that helps,
    Myrle
P.S.  Have you considered writing a VBS DataPlugin to read your file format?  Simple ASCII files are usually dead easy to write DataPlugins for.  Then you could use the file system inside of DIAdem to browse, and drag and drop from the Navigator into the Portal would automatically work.  The documentation for the DataPlugin API can be found here: http://www.ni.com/diadem/dataplugins.htm
For tips and tricks on creating VBScript DataPlugins go to http://dataplugins.blogspot.com.

  • Batch automation with actions.

    Jeffrey,
Thanks for getting back to me, here is what the issue I am having looks like.
    1) I had Photoshop CS5 on my Dell Precision Laptop.
I created an action named "Vintage + BW" that went through these following steps.
    1) Run "vintage action" that I created beforehand
    2) save file in a specific location called Vintage (c:\desktop\newfolder\vintage) with all the photoshop details (jpg, Quality 12, as a copy ...etc)
    3) run another action named "BW" again another action that I had created.
    4) save file in a specific location called BW (c:\desktop\newfolder\BW) with all the photoshop details (jpg, Quality 12, as a copy ...etc)
    5) close original file without saving
    2) I run an automated batch process where I choose action "Vintage + BW"
Everything works well, the world is a happy place.
    This was last week.
This week, I remove CS5 from my old Dell, and install it on my new Precision, activate it, and move over the actions from my old system.
I run the same action that was working perfectly before, and now it saves everything in the BW folder, as a BW photo.
I go into the folder to see what's up, and i see it clearly running the Vintage part of the action, then saving it as as it should, but it is saving it in the root  folder (New Folder).  Then it continues running the 2nd part of the action (BW action), and saving it in the "New folder" as well, thus overwriting the vintage picture.
Now, normally, I would understand that it would do that if that box "Override Action "save As" commands" was NOT checked, but as you can see in the picture, it is checked, which means that the save as commands running in the action would take precedence.  Unless I'm not clear on that.
I tried creating a whole new set of actions giving it a different name, following the same steps as before.
I had one file open, and started recording a new action. Running Vintage, saving as (vintage Folder), running BW, saving as (bw folder), closing file.
I ran the batch again, and this time, what it does is, it saves in the right folder Vintage for Vintage, and BW for BW, but every file in the Batch folder uses the same filename as the one in which I created the action. Which means that every file that gets run through the batch, gets overwritten by the next file that runs through the action.  So while the batch runs, even if I had 100 pictures, there would only be 1 picture in each folder.
So no matter what I try, It is not allowing me to run the action properly, and I'm stumped at what I need to do now!
Any help would be super appreciated.
    Thanks a lot,
    Didier-

I was wondering if you had a chance to look more into it?
    Thanks a lot,
    Didier-

  • Half-pedaling through automation possible ?

    Hi,
I just bought a sustain pedal for my keyboard, and off course it's either off or on.
Is it possible by using automation ........... or any other method .................. to 'suggest' half-pedalling ?
By that, I mean that the sustain sound is partially reduced but not completely gone.
    Thanks,
    Kay.

I just opened the box containing the update CD to check out the User Manual. and it simply says that there's a button which activates the Half Pedalling feature ( on one of the interfaces naturally ) and that if my MIDI controller supports a continuous damper pedal, I can explore the expressive capability of this style of pedalling.
My keyboard (STudioLogic 990) has one jack socket for a sustain pedal so I guess that's OK, but I guess as you first suggested, I'll need to change this pedal for a more advanced one. I bought the VFP 1/25 from Fatar, thinking it would match my Fatar keyboard !
Thanks for your help. I'll watch the youtube video in a little while.

  • Batch automated replacement of RAW to  JPEG in iPhoto

    Hey.
I've been shooting with my camera for about a year and always did RAW just to have the option in the edit to make adjustments. Its time to trim back this monstrously large iPhoto library, so I was looking to find an automator to convert most of my RAW files to High JPEGs. With a few exceptions this is really fine for what I'm doing with the files. I have found a program that does exactly what I want, but only works with Aperture. See the link below:
    http://www.apertureexpert.com/applescripts/
Has anyone created something like this for iPhoto? I realize that I can batch export, than re-import, than track down ALL the raw files and delete them. This is time consuming and upon being re-imported I will have to once again divide up the photos into events, name the events, etc and the new converted JPEGS will be spread across an already large library of existing photos. Annoying to say the least.
I know I'm not the first to run into this problem, and I can find solutions for Aperture, Photoshop, and a few other but nothings for iPhoto.
    Please send along any advice.
    Thanks a bunch

    There isn't one, I'm afraid.
It's also difficult to see how it might work as the Original file in the Library is a Raw and you're trying to replace it with a jpeg. The Library won't recognise the jpeg as the original as it will have a different file name (the suffix).
So, one way or another, you're going to be doing this export/process/import/trash the original/ routine. You may be able to automate parts of it with Automator or Applescript.

    TD
