Is BI Integrated Planning / STS right tools for this kind of application

Hi Everyone,
I need your advise/help. I need to create a simple web application to do as below:
1) Data Entry Form on web - Enter / Edit / Delete data i.e. order entry
2) Save the data in BW cube or datastore
3) E-mail to Managers for approvals
4) Click a button to approve
5) Retrieve the data from BW and show it as a web report
Is BI Integrated Planning / STS right tools for this kind of application?  If yes, can you please recommend some documentations?; if no, Which tool will be the best fit for this kind of requirement?
Thanks a Million, Jin Freda

STS allows you to lock/release/approve one set of plan data (say many records). I thought your requirement is to approve individual order documents. configuring this in STS would be unnecessarily complicated I think.
Similarly IP is to work on a set of data (say all order quantity for a region or period), not for individual orders. Building all the checks and validations that you would probably want in an order entry may not be easy to build in IP.
VC or Webdynpro can't post to a infocube. They can certainly write to a transactional ODS (which probably would be a better place to write such data).
I have limited knowledge of your requirement so can't say whether it is a problem - probably not a show-stopper. If you are entering a set of orders in one go, may be IP is appropriate, but if you are looking for an application where users may be posting individual orders at random times, IP would be a bad choice I think.

None other than help.sap.com. STS is still a feature in IP and you have to use the features of STS from BPS.

    hi
check out the following links and you can have information on CAF for approvals. You have to adjust the rest according to your requirement.

  • Is FCS Right Tool for this job?

Newbie, here so please, bear with me.
Where I work, our expanding video production demands have finally overwhelmed our stack o' external drives storage and organization "system."
What we need is the following:
    1) A single, organized data store for projects and "B" roll.
    2) The ability to search that store.
    3) The ability to download "B" roll and other video pieces for inclusion in new projects.
    4) The ability to add new projects and "B" roll.
Right now, our network won't support direct editing of video from the server, so the plan would be to use FCS to locate and preview videos, and then to download what's needed to the local machines for use in projects.
We use Final Cut Studio and iMovie in my department, another department uses Avid (at the moment).
We have maybe a dozen people who would be browsing the video store, and maybe 4 who would be downloading and uploading items back and forth.
So, would Final Cut Server do what we need it to do? And given that our network will continue to be a bottleneck for the foreseeable future, could we get by for a year or two with a Mac Mini Server talking to a networked file store, or a DroboPro or Firewire RAID?
Thanks in advance for your advice. I'm trying to build a case to take to my bosses, and with the budgetary straightjacket we're in, cheap and good enough is more salable than expensive and perfect.

Final Cut Server will be running on Leopard Server, not the desktop Leopard OS. "Server" helps manage clients on a network. AFP is part of that set up, and not difficult at all.
The main reason to not use a Mac Mini, is the RAM requirements of FCSvr and a file server managing many clients. A Mini's CPU power is fine. Redundant power supplies in an XServe will only prove useful in an Enterprise level network. The power supplies rarely go out on computers. But you do have the space for the RAM upgrades you'll need, as I stated before.
If you're running Ethernet, you'll be editing Pro Res proxies locally, and the full res files linking back automatically when you check the FCP project back in. OR you can have FCSvr download the full res files to your local workstation to edit with, but be aware that with Ethernet, this can be, depending on project duration and amount of media, a very LONG, LONG, LONG process.
If you can afford Fibre cards and some prefabed cables, go for it. You don't need XSAN to run Fibre on a small network.

  • Right tool for Configuration Management (version control) for Jdeveloper

    All
Please share your idea and exepeience about right tool for Configuration Management (version control) for Jdeveloper Development. I used CVS in the past. Now In new company we are planning to use Oracle SCM. Is anybody used it before for Jdev Developmet ( BC4J/ADF and Struts project). Is SCM also intergrated with Jdev just like CVS.??
    Jdev Team please guide us.
    Thanks

Before you go with SCM you should read these two papers:

  • SUBINACL - the right tool for the job?

    Here is the scenario:
    DomainA and DomainB
    Full Trust both ways
Windows File Share in DomainA. Created a windows server in DomainB. Used Quest Migration Manager to migrate users and groups from DomainA to DomianB, keeping SID history. Xcopied files from DomainA server to DomainB server, keeping the permissions from DomainA.
Now, the Trust will be broken and we need to change the permissions from [email protected] to [email protected] Thousands of shares and permissions, so can't do manually. So far I have tried SUBINACL in the following context:
    Subinacl /noverbose /output=e:\ntfs_perms.txt /subdirectories e:\Share
    and then
    Subinacl /playfile e:\ntfs_perms.txt
This changed some of the permissions to DomainB, but removed a lot of permissions.
Is this the right tool to use for this? Is this the right syntax for this scenario?
    Thanks!
    Mike

    Hi,
    Sorry for the delay reply.
It seems like you have  enabled the SID history.
Based on my experience, after we completing the migration, sIDHistory should be removed from migrated principals to minimize management complexity. Microsoft has provided a sample script and
    Powershell command to remove SIDHistory.
So, please first confirm if the migration process completed or not, then plan to remove the SIDhistory.
How To Remove SID History With PowerShell
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/ashleymcglone/archive/2011/11/23/how-to-remove-sid-history-with-powershell.aspx
Before we do this, please backup the system state to making any important change to avoid any risk.  After clearing the SID history, please try to run the subinacl command to check if it
    works.

  • Right tool for the job?

    Hello,
before I spent too much time investigating AM, could someone please answer me if it is the right tool for my scenario.
What I need is SSO solution, that supports:
    - authentication with username /password, X509 cert, maybe even kerberos
    - the system needs to authenticate internal users (eg. AD users wih kerberos) and external users (eg. username / password)
    - the system is SOA oriented, all business logic is implemented in web services
    - if user invokes a web service, she needs to be authenticated, and her identity must be known to web service
    - so far I think there's no problem, right?
    - now, the first web service needs to call another web service. I need to pass original user identity further down the service-call-chain. Possible?
    - as a side feature, I'd like AM to provide additional user properties (principals?), eg. external user's company name
Is this the job for AM or do I need another tool?
    Kind regards
    Jernej

  • Creator the right tool for applets?

    Hi.
beeing new to Sun's Java Studio Creator I would like some opinions whether the Creator is the tool to use if use cases mainly focus on applets that get their data via WebServices.
My main use case would be an applet with a tree-control showing a lot of machine tools and an area that displayes some charts. Charts would be rendered by a 3rd party component. The Applet should talk to a WebService exchanging XML-Data.
I just don't know if Creator is the right tool for that.
    Many thanks in advance,

Personally, I would opt for Net Beans 5.0 beta 2 for this type of scenario. The IDE is much better suited for Swing and AWT type of applications. In addition, it has some impressive layout managers for Swing.

  • Is JSP the right technology for this project?

I'm heavy into core java, but haven't used JSP before. The project manager suggested JSP for this project, but since I'm writing the spec and the code, I need to determine if it's suitable for the task before committing to it.
    Overly-simplified summary:
    web-based application
simple form interface, fill in the blanks
user inputs a filename, and a piece of data or two to find within the file
application finds the (binary) file on the server, parses it into a known data structure, and finds the data element that contains the specified information.
application formats the data element and displays it in a web page.
user has the option to save the data in text format or as a binary file on the local machine
That's pretty much it. There are a few things that I'm concerned about, and am not sure whether JSPs are capable of handling:
    1. searching the local hard drive (in known directories) for a specific file and opening it
    2. creating, for instance, a MappedByteBuffer of a portion of the file and accessing data within it
    3. saving data in text or binary format on the user's hard drive
If the JSP can run core java style code on the server, that answers 1 and 2 easily. 3 seems like it should be possible, but like I said, I've never used JSP.
Of course I'll look up the specifics myself, but perhaps someone who has been using this technology for a while can answer my simple question:
Is JSP a suitable tool for this job?

So this project looks like one that could be handled not no roughly using a combination of Servlets and JSP.
    web-based application
simple form interface, fill in the blanksUse JSP for the displays. Forms, and such...
user inputs a filename, and a piece of data or two to
    find within the file
application finds the (binary) file on the server,The file is on the server right? Good. Then use a Servlet to find the file. Better, actually, to use a Servlet to call some other PlainOldJavaObject that finds the file for you. That way you can test and code outside of the web environment then just integrate into Servlets/JSPs when needed...
parses it into a known data structure, and finds the
data element that contains the specified
information.Again, use Servlet, or a POJO object the Servlet calls to do this stuff.
application formats the data element and displays it
in a web page.Good thing for JSP to do. Just let the Servlet get the results back from the POJO doing the work, then store them such that the JSP can read results and format an HTML page around them.
user has the option to save the data in text format
or as a binary file on the local machineOn the client's local machine? That is doable, I think. Again, use a Servlet to pass what and how to save to a POJO that that does the work. Then the servlet streams the data to the client (using a content type that will ensure the download rather than display...)
That's pretty much it. There are a few things that
I'm concerned about, and am not sure whether JSPs are
    capable of handling:
    1. searching the local hard drive (in known
directories) for a specific file and opening itLocal meaning Server? Yes, best for Servlet/Data Access Object rather than a JSP though. Local as in Client machine: No.
    2. creating, for instance, a MappedByteBuffer of a
portion of the file and accessing data within itServlets have full access to the normal Java API, but they run on the Server, so again, as long as the file is on the server... no problem.
    3. saving data in text or binary format on the user's
hard driveYeah, easy. Just a quick download servlet. I believe there are a couple examples here in the forums. Other sites may have better ones...
If the JSP can run core java style code on the
server, that answers 1 and 2 easily. It can, but a little repetition here... this is best to do in Servlets rather than JSP. JSPs should be kept to display only.
    3 seems like it
should be possible, but like I said, I've never used
    JSP.
Of course I'll look up the specifics myself, but
perhaps someone who has been using this technology
for a while can answer my simple question:
