I am an avid Blackberry user, with my Torch 9800 bridged to my 64gig Playbook, and I love all of the functionality and uses that they have.
The trouble is that I am sick of seeing all of these apps that are only made for iPhone,iPad, and Android devices, while Blackberry is left at the wayside.
It`s almost like the Blackberry line of products is on Life support with a DNR order and someone waiting to pull the plug.

I don't think so (you asked for opinion, right, not facts?).
So, can you name five apps on iPad and Android that you don't have.. that you must have? And 5,000 flatulating apps don't count.

Tiger's Slow and Painful Death

I love Apple and always trust it but recently every time I use it things are doing the "Unexpectedly Quit". It used to happen every once in a while, but now It's becoming rare that I can open an application and keep it open for the entire time I want it to. I am also getting the spinning rainbow and having to force quit many applications. It's gotten to the point where I can't use it anymore! PLEASE HELP!

I suggest you restart, and run the Unix File System Check Utility (FSCK).
Actions:
Restart
Before you hear to tones of restart, hold down two keys:
Command Key and S
This should boot you into UNIX.
Once the code stops, type the following commands precisely as below:
sbin/fsck -f -n
This should begin running the FSCK routine. Depending on the speed of your machine this may take a couple of minutes.
If it says "Your Mac needs repair," then
redo the FSCK commands. Do this until it reads
"Your Mac appears OK"
Then type:
reboot
on the command line and you will be back in GUI.
See if that doesn't help. If it doesn't, then download Clam and see if you have picked up some sort of a virus that may be causing problems (unlikely but not utterly out of the question).
It costs a bit, but you might consider purchasing either Diskwarrior or Tech Tool Pro. These are what the Apple Geniuses typically use at the Apple Stores to try to software fix your machine. I always keep a copy of both, and always upgrade, because they really come in handy when problems such as the one you describe occur. Diskwarrior is faster.
Another thing you should consider is to reformat your hard drive. I do this about once every year or so on all my machines. The reason is that the hard drive (and CD/DVD) are the only mechanical parts on today's computers. The hard drive is almost always spinning at 5400 RPM, thus they physically wear. This can cause directory structure problems. Simply make a copy of your system to an external USB or Firewire drive (I recommend SuperDuper for this, because it makes a bootable exact copy of your previous system). Then use DiskUtility from your bootable external drive to reformat the Macintosh Hard Drive. Then clone from your external back to Macintosh Hard drive, and any wear problems should have disappeared. Like I said, I do this every year or so on every machine. You can buy 100 Gig or more externals for a very limited amount of money. I recommend La Cie drives due to their quality and durability. (I back up everything I am working on every day).
One Final Suggestion. If you have Tech Tool Pro, and you didn't reformat your drive, then Optomize it. Files get our of sequence as you use them, and particularly so if you have limited Hard Drive Space. The parts of files get fragmented, somtimes all over a drive due to being rewritten in space that is available. Optomizing resequences the files, which usually results in a huge time gain.
There are probably good freeware Optimizers or Disk Utilities available, but since I have been using Warrior and Tech Tool for perhaps 10 years now, I always have the most up to date versions.
If none of that works you might want to take your machine to an Apple Store or a Mac repair place. Tiger shouldn't be acting like that, it is quite a robust system.
Why they suggested MacJanitor
It is because you use sleep. Usually your system runs its routine maintenance between roughly 1 AM and 4 AM in the morning, but if it is in Sleep, then this maintenance won't occur. I also use Sleep and use MacJanitor about once a week or so to clean up.

Slow and painful macbook degeneration

I am really having some problems with my macbook. The following things have happened in the past week or so:
-I open up my macbook and type in my password. When I hit enter, the macbook goes back to sleep. This used to happen very rarely, now it happens all the time.
-Just today, I got an X in the battery symbol while the computer was plugged in. It disappeared after I closed and reopened the computer.
-Yesterday, I pressed the power button on my macbook and the drive whirred up, optical drive made the usual sound, the startup chime sounded and the screen backlight came on just like normal. A split second later the computer shut down suddenly and rebooted with no problems. I really hope this isn't RSD.
-Airport connectivity is sketchy. It doesn't always reconnect after waking up.
-When clicking on a wireless network, the airport icon freezes for about 15 seconds and an error message pops up. After several tries, it will finally connect.
-iSight fails occasionally.
The only reason that I posted all these symptoms together is because they are all getting worse, leading me to believe that they are somehow related. I would greatly appreciate any help.

I understand my message was vague, but I don't always have time to elaborate completely. Yes, I do "understand these messages have meaning". I was looking for a connection between the problems more than anything else, considering all the symptoms are increasing in frequency. In the future, don't assume that anyone is a complete idiot just because they give a 'sketchy' description of a problem.
Anyway,
1) It says it cannot connect, thats all it says. I'd be willing to chalk that prob up to my setup if all else fails, it wouldn't be surprising to me if it really was the router.
2) Fail means that is isn't detected. Photo booth tells me to plug in a camera sometimes, and says the camera is in use other times. This has only happened once.
3) Umm...if my keyboard wasn't working then I wouldn't be able to press enter. If I enter the wrong password, it tells me.
To elaborate, I open the macbook, type my password (correctly), press enter. My desktop flashes quickly, then goes blank. The sleep light comes on and a few seconds later starts to pulsate, indicating that the macbook is asleep. I press the space bar one or two times and the macbook wakes up again. I type my password (correctly again), press enter, and everything is normal. It has never happened two times in a row.

Purge is slow and painful

We've implemented a purge based on technote 398578.1 and it's bringing our db to it's knees when it runs. We're keeping 28 days worth of activity in out BPEL database and the purge is doing full table scans on cube_instances, invoke_message and dlv_message.
Any basic purge will be based on a timestamp and the percentage of rows purge will be a small fraction of total rows.
Other that taking the unsupported route of adding some sensible indexes does anyone have any suggestion for improving the process ?

I've raised an SR with Oracle and the response is basically 'unsupported'.
Without a supported means of purging the BPEL database how can BPEL be considered production ready ? I can see that adding a sensible index here and there will make the Oracle purge scripts fly along but that could screw us in terms of support.
Has anyone else here worked through the Purge issue and come up with a performant, supported method ?

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

BSC WIZARD GOES SLOW AND THEN WRONG PAGE THEME OR CSS (CS_WIZARD)

We are trying to use the BSC Web Wizard (/sap/bc/bsp/sap/cs_wizard), but when we all it it always goes to slow (very very slow), and it gives us a web page without any theme or css schema.
When we see the other web pages (SEM_BSC, SEM_MC, SEM_VDT) the web pages asks us a user and password of the BI Intance. But in the case of the Wizard, it doesn't ask us nothing at all.
Can someone help me please????

After update my iPhone 4 iOS to 4.0.1 my bettery gone so bad. Every 1% goes in every minute while browsing. Also system gone proper slow and 3G conectivity gone very poor. I really want to go back to ios 4.3.4 until these issue is resolved. Please help.

Just look around the forum posts. Your issue is the number one problem reported by users. There are many suggestions found, some work for some users, others do not.
Some users have reported no battery problems after the upgrade. Others have improved performance after upgrading to 5.0.1 from 5.0. YMMV.
Many of the posts offer suggestions about changing various settings - there are many that affect the battery life.
Once you upgrade the iOS on a device, you cannot go back to a previous version.

I think your problem might be in the settings. Your audiobooks might be trying to download like music CDs, and doing error checking and playing while it downloads.

I upgraded my 3rd gen iTouch to iOS 5.1.1 and now its speed to repond is slower and the battery goes flat quicker than before the upgrade. Skype, Sky iCloud and other apps are turned off (I think). Has anybody else suffered with this? Any ideas?

In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

Thanks for your response, I forgot to add that the five 3uk sims we have in use, I have tried all of them none of them are recongnised non of them have pin codes, I even purchased four more sims Tmobile (original carrier) Vodaphone, 3 and giffgaff.

Computer old and probably going to die soon. Help needed backing up iTunes

My G4 has lost most of it's hard drive space and I'm too stupid to figure out how to clear it up. You guys have tried to help me, but my mind goes numb after I get past 'Emptying the Trash'. I've come to the realization that I must now buy a new Mac. I have an external hard drive that I've backed up most of my stuff on, but I'm a little concerned about my iTunes music. When I drag music onto the external drive, they seem to transfer correctly. However, when I look at the song icon on the external drive, there is a little padlock next to each song. Padlocks frighten me. Does this mean that I'll not be able to open these songs when I try and put them on my new computer? I appreciate any help you can give me. If you are kind enough to try and help, please type your instructions as if you were talking to an infant.

Let's work on the freeing up space issue. This is like looking at your house and saying you need to find about space usage.
Let's start with Disk Inventory. Download the .dmg file, click it to get it to mount (make a pretend hard drive). Then copy the application to somewhere on your computer. Drag the pretend hard drive to the trash and double click on the copy on your computer to start the application.
When DI starts it will look at your computer for drives/volumes. It will show the size of the volume and how much is free. What does it say?
After that, click on a volume (if you have more than one) and have it start analyzing the volume. When it's don't you'll have a map of the drive, and a key to the colors and file types on the right. The types will be organized according to how much space each type is taking up in total. DI tells me on my computer I have 50GB in mp3 type music files, 6.5 GB in mp4 type music files, and so on. Now' there's also a few other things to note. Although most of my music files come under "MP3 audio" at the top, I also have a few GB under "Mp3 Audio File" a little ways down the list, and even "mp3 document" - all mp3 music files. I also have some movies as "AVI". So I can see at a glance that over half my 120 GB drive is being taken up by two file types.
Now if I want/need space I have to look at what's taking up room. I can see I have a lot of mp3, mp3 audio, aac, and related music file types. Itunes itself reports many GB of music so I am not surprised about this. I can select a file type series such as "mp3 audio" and right click or control+click on it to show files in selection list. When I do that a new window appears listing all my mp3 files. I can scroll down the list. When doing so I did notice one file I had in duplicate which was taking up 20 MB of space. I then right clicked on it and sent the duplicate to the trash. Incidentally, I knew there should only be one copy of that file, and getting rid of 20 MB won't free up your computer by a whole lot unless you have 200 files of that kind.
Unless you have a tiny drive we're probably only interested in what's taking up GB of drive space, or at most maybe hundreds of MB. You can spend hours going through 1 MB files and not free significant space (though it is good for general housekeeping). So, keep on selecting a set of the big file types and right click to show in selection list. Then scroll down the selection list which will also be organized according to file size. Look for big files and decide if you want to keep it.
A few things to note.
You're mostly looking for files that will include your name in the "path" column. Disk Inventory lists all files, including many big ones that are system files and should not be touched. I have 5.5 GB as "Documents" but the top 3 are large system files. Below that, however, I notice I have 3 copies of a photograph file which got listed as a document because I don't have the software for opening the file on this computer and the computer decided it was a document. Since I recognize the file name as something I created 2 years ago I know what it is and that the should only be one copy. I can definitely get rid of two copies of the file and free up 260 MB that way.
What you are initially looking for are things you would probably recognize by name and say "Oh, that's where I put that movie!" Or you'll see you have two copies of a huge movie file and that's what's taking up space. Or you'll simply see you have 20 movie files, all of which you want to keep but you'll see that that's where 10 GB of your drive have gone.
After doing this initial browse you may find you have some odd files that you recognize but forgot you have and can now delete. You may also decide you have nothing you can get rid of but at least now you know and you don't have any option but to move files to other places. Or you may decide need a bigger hard drive, or possibly upgrade the whole computer to one with a bigger hard drive too, but at least making that decision. With the advent of digital media many people are simply outgrowing their drives.
In a few cases something may be going wrong and creating either a huge log file. There's something called swap files which will be big but belong there. If you see anything that's bigger than a GB but you don't recognize, ask about it here.

well, during internet rush hours, for example, from dusk to mid-night, monday to friday, it is really common there. you can try some alternative there, I.E. 7/8/9, google chrome 10.x to have some test.

Panning scrolling is going slow and hand tool ain't working when using lasso tool.

Hello Photoshop users,
A couple weeks ago I bought a new PC with windows 8.1. I installed Photoshop CS 5, and it worked really well.
The only thing that isn't working really well, is the (polygonal) lasso tool. When is use it, the scrolling/panning is very slow and the hand tool is also very slow or isn't working at all. Very annoying.
I already called the Adobe customer service, but they don't support Photoshop CS 5 any more (what is a shame for such a expensive program)
Do more people have this problem? Or does anyone know how I can fix this?
I hope someone can help me.

I just fired up Photoshop CS5 on my Win 8.1 system and the panning is quick and interactive.
Is your new PC a desktop system? If so, what video card do you have in it? Have you checked the web site of the maker of that video card to see if they have an updated display driver?
For what it's worth, I have an ATI Radeon HD 7850 and the newest display driver (Catalyst 14.4), and like I said, Photoshop CS5 (though not the version I use much any more) appears to work just fine here.
Another thing you can try is to go into the Performance preferences, click the [Advanced Settings...] button in the GPU Settings section, and try different Modes. Make sure to fully close and restart Photoshop after making any changes there, so you'll be sure to be testing the new settings.
