Is Business Objects is ROLAP tool?? If access datamart performance Decrease

Hi Bo gurus,
i am getting good response from u guys. And keeping improving myself through SDN community. And i came with a different question as follows,
we have created datamart from the database,it does not have physical existence.we have created the target tables using data integrator.
Now we use BOXI R3.1 ,created the universe according to the business and generated the reports and dashboards from the datamart. Now whats the problem we are facing is that for generating reports in voyager we short fall of OLAP cube.As voyager can only access OLAP cube not the universe directly like reports.
Now the client have asked why we have not developed the datamart in OLAP cubes. But i replied that for creating universe there is no need of OLAP by using the datamart target tables itself we can create universe and generate reports.
But client says why u have not created in OLAP cube.If i also create which is best method to implement whether MOLAP or ROLAP is best ???
I am trying to convince that ROLAP is best as it can handel large database.
But client is saying if we implement MOLAP performance will be faster....
I have question whether creating universe on the top of OLAP will be faster and make some difference or directly from target tables(datamart-facts & dimension) itself work fine????
I have gone through some of sites telling that Bo is ROLAP tool icon_confused.gif and Cognous is ROLAP tool is that true.....
PLZ Give me some suggestion icon_idea.gif on this....
Thanks in advance GURUS,
santose

Hi,
i would recommend posting this in the "Enterprise Information Management" Forum. DataServices belongs to the EIM productline of SAPBOBJ and there are the pros for the Tool.

  • Business Objects and SAP BI Integrated Planning

    Hi,
Not too sure if this is in the correct forum...but I have question.
Is there a way to use the integrated planning functionality with a Business Objects Front end tool? As I understand BEx will at some stage will not be supported...so I guess there must be a tool. If so which one?
    Thanks,
    Leo

    Hi Leo,
The Business Objects << SAP Solutions Integration Kit >> enables Web Intelligence, Yoyager, and Crystal reporting on the following SAP sources:
    1. SAP BW   (Infoset, BW Query, BW MDX and ODS)
    2. SAP R3 / mySAP ERP  (transparent tables, pool tables, cluster tables, views, ABAP functions and ABAP data clusters)
& Also web portal integration to:
    3. SAP Enterprise Portal  (SAP's Knowledge Management - Repository Framework Interface, iViews etc)
So..  if you can consolidate your planning data into a cube datatarget, you might be in with a chance!
    I hope this helps.

  • API Clearcase for Business Objects Reports including Webi

Is there anyone out there who has developed a linked version of the following application?
Winners of the Business Objects Community Content Contest
I'm excited to announce the winners of the content contest that we ran earlier in the summer. The contest ran for seven weeks and had five categories, each of which offered a potential grand prize of $1,000 USD, a second prize of $300 USD, and a third prize of $200 USD.
Here is the list of winners, who have already been officially notified, along with a description of their submissions:
    SDK APPLICATION
Grand prize - Sunil Abraham - "Bridge between Rational ClearCase version control and Business Object Enterprise"
This tool enables updating the location of report files on the BOE server from the ClearCase repository without using the web interface. The tool is a stand alone application developed in VB.NET using BusinessObjects Enterprise SDK and the ClearCase Automation Library (COM Interface). The user selects the ClearCase repository and the change set that needs to be updated on the BOE server. The tool queries BOE and returns the locations of the files to be updated. The user can then update the server location with the click of a button.

You cannot use query builder to update the object. You need to create a jsp page or java class and add the code to perform the action. The code should:
    1. logon to enterprise
    2. query for  the objects to get InfoObjects.
    3. loop through each object and update title using setTitle()
    4. commit
    5. logoff
Check various [sample|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/samples?rid=/webcontent/uuid/b0daacb7-ad82-2b10-b2b6-f3e9fa3e716a] and [Developer Guide|http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31/en/boesdk_java_dg_12_en.zip] on how to set up the environment etc,

  • Business Objects licencing

Please can you give us some guidance regarding what/if licences are required for Business Object reports.
We currently have 10 deski BO licences. We are looking to write many reports as part of the installation of a new Adult Care Management system , to reduce the number of reports required we will want to allow parameters to be entered to a report.
To execute a Business Objects report that requires a parameter to be entered do we need to procure licences for all potential users ? or can they be developed under the 10 deski licences and run by anyone else without the need for a licence.
We hope to make the reports available to all our users (approx 1200), so an idea of whether we require a licence for each user and the cost of any licences would be helpful.

    Hi Mike
Did you ever get further with this? I'm doing a similar exercise here at Surrey County Council - maybe we should speak!? I'm not clear how a user can interact (slice/dice/filter/sort) with a Desktop Intelligence report. I believe they too will need a DeskI licence but without the rights to write reports. A basic Business Objects license will give them access to use InfoView, but that gives little interaction beyond user prompts, print, export.
Interactive Viewer gives more interaction for the user, but only works on reports written in Web Intelligence.
I wonder if this is any help?!
Also - ask your supplier about the new 'SAP Business Objects Information and Analysis Package". This seems to allow users with an SAP license (e.g. for accessing the portal) to have a level of Business Objects access.

  • Report Writer - Converting from MS Access to Business Objects Tools

In 2008, my company migrated to SAP.  Security has forced all report writing to use business objects (specifically WEBI); however, WEBI is very very difficult to use.  The data in the universe doesn't always match what SAP has and the tool itself doesn't give the robust manipulation that Access does.  I have tried to tell the company I need access to the universes through MS Access in order to create the reports automatically and allow interactive databases; however they refuse to give me ODBC access (against policy).  Right now I have no alternative but to do daily downloads from SAP in order to feed my robust databases.
Can anyone suggest what business object tool I should use that will replicate what MS Access does for me?
Easy report writing with robust design (including charts)
Easy front-end tool for end users
    One to many relationships needed
Efficient/Automatic (no need for daily downloads)
End users can interact with reports (enter data for later analysis)
What about Crystal Reports?  What are the limitations and can it do what MS Access does for me today?
Should I be posting this question in another forum?

    Hi Amy,
CR 2008 is the complimentary version of CR Designer when connecting to BOE 3.1. You can get an update to Service Pack 3 and then possible SP 4:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100007123572010E/cr2008_sp3.exe
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100008782452011E/cr2008sp4.exe
But before you do that check with the BOE admin, SP's should match also but not required.
They should work together, When you use the Report Wizard you'll see an option to connect to Enterprise and then log in using your User account and then the Repository will have the Universes available. Remember this is all set up by the Administrator so you will need the Admin person to grant you access to the Repository as well as anything else you need access to. Once you create the report then you can Publish them to your folder or a common folder and the Admin can then share your reports.
WEBI is what the name implies, it's a WEB interface to allow you to create reports using it's Report Wizard. It does take some getting used to and you should have training available, check with your admin group again. Same as CRD, it tool allows you to create reports but is much more flexible than WEBI is in a few ways but once you understand how WEBI works it has some very powerful tools also.
CR allows you to access any database field you have permission to see, it fully supports database permissions. So if you can't see them again you have to ask your DBA to grant you permissions. You can then link tables including your late entry table if it is separate or simply hitting the refresh button in the viewer will requery the DB for new rows of data. All depends on how it's set up.
As for security, this is a decision your company has made. SAP is just a tool that allows you to be secure. With today's security threats and other privacy laws and hackers abilities to get to and cause personal harm to those affected it's just the way things are these days. Take this up with your Management, it's not something we can decide for you and certainly can't provide you with ways to circumvent the security.....
There is training available for both WEBI and CR as well as third party Help for books available. Downloading the sample reports is a great place to start, you can switch between Design and preview mode and see what happens when you make changes....
    Thanks again
    Don

if the export to XML file is successful, the file will not be deleted if you are creating it from Metadata Exchange.
The file gets deleted in case you are using the create universe option and by default the file is created in %LINK_DIR%\log\MetadataExchange, you will also see ME_errorlog.txt and ME_outputlog.txt if there are any errors, do you see and erros in these files if you are creating the Universe directly from DS Designer ?
to use Metadata Exchange do the following
    Open Data Services Desginer
Click on tools Menu -> Metadata Exchange
    In the Metadata Exchange window
Select Export Data Services metadata to a file
Select DI CWM as metadata format
enter location for xml file (C:\temp)
Select the datastore you want to create Universe for
    Click OK
Check for file named repo_export.xml in the C:\temp folder or the folder that you specified
    Open Universe Builder and Select
    Data Integrator bridge
and use the xml file as input to create universe

  • Monitoring and Alerting tools for Business Object Data Integrator

    Hi,
We have Business Objects DI installed in AIX 5.3 environment. Please advise any type of monitoring and alerting tools for DI.
Monitor tools to monitor Job servers(like job service and web services running properly) and also to monitor long running extraction jobs and alerting the same. Thanks.
    Thanks.
    Raj.

    Hi Thomas
Though both the tools objectives are for Data integration, the purpose for both tools are different.
SAP BODS/ BOBJ Data Integrator is an ETL tool which involves combining data residing in different sources and providing users with a unified view of the data
SAP PI is a Middleware/EAI tool which have a mechanism/technology that connects different parts of an application or a series of applications
    SAP BOBJ Data Integrator
    Bulk Data Integration
    Extraction Transformation and Loading
Deals of huge volume of data
    SAP PI
It is process based integration of application data
It is a middle ware which integrates various project applications into a common programming package that can be operate/access as a single application
SAP NetWeaver PI is SAP’s implementation of Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) middleware and facilitates the integration of business processes that span different departments, organizations, or companies.
SAP PI uses SAP NetWeaver Application Server and message servers where in fail over cases the messages can be resent again.
The below differences will gives you more clarity
Verdict is we can use both the tools for data transfer/migration and for choosing the tool depends upon the business requirement
Please reply back if you need more information.

  • Business Objects Edge XI R2 - Missing Report Conversion Tool

We have BO Edge XI R2 (SP5) installed, and want to migrate a load of reports from a BO5.4 repository. We have used the Import Wizard to bring objects across, but according to the manual we need to use the Report Conversion Tool to convert them to WEBI report format. The manual seems to say that the Report Conversion Tool should be an option on the Start menu, but it just doesn't appear for me. I have uninstalled the client software from my machine and re-installed it, and there is no option to select to install it. Does anyone know how I can get access to the tool ?

    Hello Bob
There are three products you actually mention in your post: Crystal Reports, Crystal Reports Server (Business Objects XI R2 server) and Business Objects Enterprise. Crystal Reports and Crystal Reports Server use the same runtime which is available from here:
    [CR XI R2 (SP6) MSM for .NET|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100000634042010E/crxir2sp6_net_mm.zip]

Business Objects Enterprise SDK was always only available from the BOE Install CD and updates were posted to the SAP Market Place (SMP). This is a gated site and login info should have been provided to you on purchase of BOE. I am unable to find the runtime on SMP (it was more than likely removed when support for XI R2 products terminated last year), but I'm sure your account manager should be able to help you out.

  • SRM 7.0 business object / individual procurement document direct URL access

    Hello,
While our Basis team is configuring the Portal integration with our newly upgraded SRM 7.0 system, I am wondering if it's possible to take a sneak peak at the business object on the WebDynpro screen, for example, via SICF webdynpro service, such as
    /default_host/sap/bc/webdynpro/sapsrm/wdcc_v_rfq_puchaser
After activating all relevant services (as far as I understand), I tried to access the following URL directly on the browser:
    https://<server;domain>:<port>/sap/bc/webdynpro/sapsrm/wdcc_v_rfq_purchaser?sap-client=010&sap-language=EN?
I encountered the "Access via 'NULL' object reference not possible" exception on the web page. I think it's due to the missing object type and object id reference on the HTTP parameters. But what are the parameter name(s) that are required on the URL? Does anybody have the experience in accessing an individual document through direct URL?
    Thanks,

  • BI report tools VS Business Object

    Hi Gurus,
I would like to understand differences between reporting capabilities in NW2004S-BI and Business Object. Do you have any document or link ?
And about SAP licences ? If I install BO over BW must I pay for all users in any case or I must pay only for Administrator users ?
I will assign points for all valuable answers. Thank you in advance.
    Ciao.
    Riccardo.

    Riccardo,
Crystal reports is not supported with NW04s...
    please visit
    www.service.sap.com/businessobjects
same is mentioned here also :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/44/879d55d1695918e10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm
reproducing the message from the support portal :
SAP and Business Objects have decided to end the area of their partnership that relates to formatted reporting for BI by mutual consent. This will be effective as of the end of September. The software partnership with Business Objects and their Powered by SAP NetWeaver status are not affected.
the reseller agreement ended on September 30th, 2006
existing customers will still be able to get updates/upgrades (new releases) without additional costs as long as the number of cpu's/named users stays as is
for releases newer than Business Objects XI Release 1 the software delivery process has changed
SAP itself does not provide these new releases through the SAP service marketplace but forwards such requests to Business Objects
Business Objects triggers the shipment (or provides access to its download area) and takes also care for the license key provisioning if needed
for future requests please use csn (xx-part-crr)

  • Business Object "Service Order" not found in Web Service Tool

    Dear Experts,
We're trying to create a web service for Service Order via Web Service Tool,
but we can't find the business object "Service Order" there.
How to step to reproduce the problem:
    1. Logon CRM WEBUI with the business role ITSERVICEPRO.
    (or T-cd:BSP_WD_CMPWB > Enter component WS_DESIGN_TOOL > Test)
    2. Go to Service Operations>Web Service
    3. Create a new Web Service
-> In "Service Objects" area at step 1 "Select Objects", there's a drop down list box of "Business Object".
In this list, "Service Order" does not exist.
Other objects such as "Service Confirmation", "Service Order Quotation" etc are available.
How can we create a new web service for Service Order?
Any advise would be highly apprecaited.
    Best regards,
    F.T.

    Hello Rocca,
It is hard coded in FM CRM_SALESDOCUMENT_FILTER that the item which is assigned to object type BUS2000140 would be removed from the upload relevant item list.
To get it replicated, I am afraid that you need to modify the relevant coding here.
    Best regards,
