Is C30 quiet???

Hi all,
I decide to get a new PC and decide to get the Thinkstation C30 or P300 to replace my 58p!
The 58p was a bit high pitch for my liking; and I had the cover open while operation with a Radeon 6570 graphic card to reduce both the noise and make it lower pitch.
I am wonder if the C30 is noisy or is the sound out of the fan medium or low pitch which is more to my liking.
Any thing else I should be looking for in a C30?
I plan on finding a 256 or bigger SSD already installed. Otherwise, I heard that it is very difficult to install anything other then a Intel 180, 240 or 512 SSD inside. Has that been fix for 2015? If so; I will just buy the best e5 and get a modern SSD like Samsung 850 pro! Has the latest firmware have any bugs in it?
Thanks for your reply!

Yes, the C30 is very quiet.  Acoustics are a couple db lower than the C20 and it was regarded by many as a quiet workstation.  I've worked with both and agree that the C30 is slightly better in terms of acoustics.
You can install almost any SATA SSD you want.  However, you would be on your own for any support issues or on the off chance that there's an interoperability problem with other devices in your system.  The same can be said about a desktop and installing your own hardware.
Lenovo only supports the hardware devices that they qualify.  "Support" doesn't mean these are the only devices compatible in a system.  Instead, it defines what has been tested for interoperability with all devices sold within a platform and are willing to be handled under warranty.
Regarding the Samsung 850 firmware potentially having bugs, that's something you'll have to research on your own.  I don't think anyone here would know the absolute penultimate state of reliability with the 850's firmware.  You might try an SSD or Samsung forum for that info.

  • Is Cool 'n Quiet stable?

    I run a K8N Neo2 Platinum (MS-7025) with 1.4 bios, 3800+ NewCastle CPU and Kingston HyperX 400MHz memory.
The setup works like a charm, but when I enable "Cool 'n Quiet" it seems to cause lock-ups and reboots.
The system is NOT overclocked, everything is set to AUTO in BIOS, except for memory which has been set to a bit slower settings than SPD reports.
When I have Core Center open on screen to watch what Cool 'n Quiet does, it seems like most of the time it reports 200MHz x 5.0 at idle, but when I start up an application, it can peak to 380MHz x 12 ?
Neither memory nor CPU should be able to handle that kind of FSB clock, so is it a system bug that the clock peaks at way above 200MHz?  I really don't DARE to use "Cool 'n Quiet" for that reason, I need a stable system that doesn't hang or reboot in the middle of working.

    Anders.

    Andres,
I'm not getting the BSODs but the fluctuations do have me concerned. This thread is interesting. Blue screen caused by Vcore flucuations?
Raising the Vcore from 1.50 to 1.525 or 1.55 does seem to help stabilize my system but the CPU temp goes up. I've got a Thermalright XP-90 on the way so heat shouldn't be a problem.
    ===============================================
    What I've found so far...
Cool & Quiet disabled in the BIOS.
    Start CoreCenter running.
    Start Speedfan running.
    Start WCPUCLK
Put a full load on the CPU. (seti@home)
Just moving the mouse around causes a few alarming fluctuations seen in CoreCenter.
WCPUCLK doesn't register the fluctuations but I'm not getting BSODs.
    1) Open CC. Click on CoreCenter , the program title button.
    2) Click User
    3) Set the fans on high
    4) Click Apply.
Now the Vcore and FSB stabilize.
It appears that C & Q is turned off.

It looks like what the other guys have been saying...Don't use CoreCenter except as a reference to help set up other programs like MBM and SpeedFan. Hmmm...RightMarks RM clock also sounds interesting.
Having a quieter system with Cool & Quiet turned on in the BIOS is nice. I'll have to do more testing to see if its stable. If C & Q is still causing instability after raising the CPU VID to 1.525 in the BIOS...I'll leave it off...Cie La Vie.

  • IPhone 4s earpiece very quiet during calls, but normal in Voice Memos.

My iPhones earpiece is really quiet during calls, but I'm loud and clear on the other end. It's also weird because if I record a message in Voice Memos, and I play it through the earpiece, it sounds fine. I'm in 5.1.1, Jailbroken (shouldn't make a difference) and I even poked a hole in the little earpiece grill, which didn't help and didn't hurt. And yes, the plastic piece is gone, I've had this phone for close to 5 months.

Mine also has this issue. Its the 64GB version. It's happened twice now. After about 5 mintues the call quality degragates and it sounds like i'm in a wind tunnel. The person on the other end also hears this and it is no longer possible to hear each other. Both times i've been using the new headphones provided with the 4s. I've done lots of searching on this issue and only found your thread which leads me to believe its not a common problem. I'm just not sure whether its a firmware or hardware issue but as nobody else has this issue its more than likely a hardware issue! :-(

  • Satellite U400 - Internal microphone is too quiet

I am running on Windows7 x64. I have downloaded latest sound drivers (4.98.6.61) and now is internal microphone very quiet although its volume is on max.
I had Vista x64 before and everything was ok. I have tried Vista drivers on Windows 7, but nothing changed - still quiet mic.
    Thanks for an advice.

    Hi
I had the same issue with my Satellite U400 but on Vista. After updating the sound driver and BIOS the issue did still exist.
After searching a little bit here in the forum I activated the microphone boost and this was the solution! :)
1.Open the "Control Panel" (Standard view)
    2.Click on "Hardware and Sound"
    3.Click on "Sound"
    4.Click on the "Recording" tab.
5.Mark the Microphone and then press on the "Properties" button.
6.Click on the Custom tab and set the check by Microphone Boost
    Check this!!

  • Memory configuration for C30

    Hi All!
I was hoping someone would be able to help me.
We are about to buy new machines which will mostly be used for CFD simulations using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) which is run using MPICH.
We are likely to get Lenovo C30 systems with 2 x Xeon E5-2650 v2's, this is the IT departments choice. I'm an engineer who will be using the system to run CFD models. However i have owned several Thinkpads in the past and found them great machines.
I understand that the CPU is a key component that affects simulation speeds however memory also has a huge impact.
Am I right in thinking that it would be better to provide 8 x 4 GB of memory (The CPUs have 4 memory channels each) rather than 2 x 16 GB? Most of the CFD models that are run will use from 2GB to 8GB of memory, with more than 20GB being a very rare event.
I have spoken to Lenovo online and i got a repsonse that using less DIMM slots is actually quicker! This goes against my own knowledge of how it works and the other research i come accross.
The C30 has 8 DIMM slots. I guess the general question is, to gain maximum memory speed you should populate all 8 DIMM slots with identical RAM? Anything less will not give the maximum memory speed.
As CFD is very memory intensive this will have a knockon effect to CFD performance (run times). Is anyone able to suggest if the extra cost involved in 8x4GB will give a noticeable performance boost over using 2x16GB?
I would really appreciate any help
    Regards,
    Matt

Harathi : Thank you for contacting Lenovo Sales Chat. My name is Harathi and my Rep ID is 2900711681. Happy to help you today. Hello, may I know your name please?
You : Hi, my name is Matt
You : I have a quite technical question
Harathi : I will try to answer Matt
Harathi : We have dedicated technical team for this
You : We are about to buy some new machines which will mostly be used for Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations using the Fire Dynamics Simulator program. The simulations are very memory intensive and are normally run using MPICH. We are likely getting Lenovo C30 systems with 2 x Xeon E5-2650 v2's. I understand each Xeon processor has 4 memory channels and there are therefore 8 memory channels in total. Am I right in thinking that it would be better (higher performance) to provide 8 x 4 GB of memory rather than 2 x 16 GB? The key issue I see is that if you only use 2 of the DIMM slots then you are only maximising two of the memory channels. In that case the memory transfer will be limited. If you use all 8 DIMM slots you will use all the memory channels and maximise throughput. Therefore 8 x 4GB will have more transfer bandwidth than 2 x 16GB. I also realise that 8 x 4GB will be more expensive and will limit upgrade options in the future.
You : Sorry, this tool doesn't like paragraphs.
    Harathi : Let me read
Harathi : Have you customized C30?
You : That is the question, when we buy the new machines will customising it with 8 x 4GB RAM modules give a performance boost compared to 2 x 16GB?
Harathi : Let me check that for you.
Harathi : Please give me few minutes
You : Ok, no problem, thanks.
    Harathi : Thank you
Harathi : Thank you for your time. 2 x 16GB will give better performance
Harathi : May I know if you are customizing it now to order?
    You : Yes
    Harathi : Okay
Harathi : I will be online while you place the order
You : Why will 2 x 16GB give better performance? Can you explain a little?
You : Why would not using all the 8 memory channels give better performance?
Harathi : I will explain you
Harathi : System will take some of the memory capacity from every RAM stick
Harathi : This is just an approximate figure. When a 8GB RAM is added, the actual RAM you get will be 7.5GB or so, that way you'll loose more capacity of the RAM when you add more sticks.
You : Ok, I can understand that. So 2x16GB will give you more total memory than 8x4GB.
You : However, capacity is not the main concern. I am concerned with speed. I want the fastest memory to CPU transfer available.
Matt, less # of memory sticks will give you more speed
You : Ok, that's interesting. Thanks.
    Harathi : You are welcome

By adding more DIMM, should you benefit from higher transfer rate of dual, triple or quad-channel?
I rememberred reading somewhere that dual-channel (2x DIMM / CPU) will give you a big jump from single DIMM, while triple and quad config are only a tiny bit faster than 'dual'.
The above information may need a confirmation from technician or more reseach regarding specific CPU though.
If it were me, I might go with 2x8GB / CPU leaving room for future upgrade while complying with dual-channel config.

  • My mac is quiet, a little too quiet.

So I just recently installed a new security update on my imac g5 w/tiger and reset like I was told to. I then went to bed as it was resetting.
The next morning I had a hard time getting it to wake up from sleep mode. So I restarted it. It then restarted really quiet, quieter then normal. Doesn't seem the fan is turning possibly. I get to my desktop but theirs this big black streaky glitch like thing across the middle. Then the rest of it goes scrambled. Nothing works.
I reset and this time desktop looks fine but then random words and numbers pop up across the screen and scramble it all up again.
Now when I turn it on. It doesn't even get to the log in screen, it scrambles up almost immediately. Still quiet.
What's the issue. Is it cause the fan is dead? Power supply? Motherboard?

    Ok,
UPDATE: I since took my mac into a authorized apple repair shop. I was told the "source" board was bad and would cost like $450 or so dollars to replace plus labor. The guy who told me this wasn't the authorized apple repair guy just a guy there. I assume he meant logic board. As many the case seems to be the problem with the g5's and with familiar problems. Now this same shop replaced what they said was the "motherboard" in January. Isn't the logic board and motherboard the same thing? If so maybe there's some kind of warranty or time limit before the new board goes out?
I also checked the back for oozing, bulging, and LED lights. Everything looks normal. And I've also purchased a new iMac which will be here Wednesday. So I just have a few questions..
    1) How much difficulty is it to replace the logic board myself if in the future I decide to fix it, to save on labor?
    2) If not repaired, is their a place to sell the remaining fine working parts for a profit? (I assume old parts won't work on my new one if they blow out.)
    3) With the new iMac I bought (for pretty cheap) being used. Good deal, which is all I could afford right now. Is there anything I can do now to assist in the future to avoid logic blowouts or even maybe extend a warranty on the new one?
Thank you all so much for your advice, help, and patience.

  • How to Quiet a Mac Pro keyboard?

Need to work online without keyboard noise

There are no silent keyboards. Even typing on my iPad isn't completely silent, and that operation features no moving parts except my fingers.
The best you can do to quiet your MBP keyboard is to put a thick silicone KB protector over it. That will damp the noise some. It will also make typing a miserable experience, multiplying your typographical error rate several times.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/
com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it  from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Equium - How to set quiet mode for CD drive?

Hi I've got Toshiba notebook Equium series and recently I had to reinstall my Windows Vista.
And now my CD-ROM is very noisy when read data from CD and the whole notebook is shaking.
I remember that when I both it there was some option to put it in quite mode.
I've download some firmware from this site but it was for different CD-ROM.
So I'll be very grateful if some one tells me how to make it quite again.
    The CD-ROM is MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ-850S

    Hi!
I dont know which notebook you have but on the Toshiba European website you can download the Acoustic Silencer.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
On my Satellite L300 I use the Acoustic Silencer and I like it. If I watch a DVD or listen music from CD I set the quiet mode.

  • The sound on my iPod touch is really quiet, really annoying!

The sound on my iPod touch is really quiet, and i have to have the volume up at least halfway just to be able to hear it, but once I get a notification, it goes back to normal, but only until I either go into the app, unlock my iPod or change the song. It started a while ago when I was playing a game and the game crashed. Ever since then it has been really quiet. It's not the headphones because I tried them with my computer and they worked perfectly fine.

    Try the standared fixes
    - Reset. Nothong is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Delete the app that may have caused the problem.
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPoc

  • Cool'n'Quiet not working like it should!

Well, I decided to try Cool'n'Quiet to see how much cooler and quieter my system would get. So I enabled it in BIOS and set Windows power management to Minimal, and watched the clock speed and voltage go down as the CPU load went down.
It stopped at about 1.3v and 1800 Mhz. It won't go any further! My friend practically has the same setup except he uses a 3000+ ClawHammer, and his clock speed and voltage decreases much more than mine. I've read that the clock speed should hit 1000 Mhz.
To answer some possible questions, yes, I have installed the latest AMD processor driver and yes, the CPU load is under 10% when I'm checking.
    Thanks in advance!

If you install the latest beta BIOS 1.2B12, you will see that CnQ can drop the multiplier down to 5.   But some people have seen instability with that BIOS.  I have not.

  • Bluetooth iPhone 4s car stereo very quiet

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me with an audio problem. Sometimes when I connect by iPhone 4s to my car stereo via Bluetooth, the audio is very quiet. Even with my volume turned all the way up on my phone and car stereo. Then other times ill connect them and it'll play normal and very loud. And way to fix this so it's loud all the time?-(when's it's quiet I turn it all the way up and it's still like background noise...)
    TIA

I have the same problem with my iPhone 5S in my Subaru.  Until someone can offer a fix, I am resorting to using FM, only.
