Is Cable needed for USB Charger Accessory?

I want to buy the separate charger 'accessory' ($29) for charging by iPod. Do I need to buy a separate cable for it or does the cable that is used to sync/charge my iPod via my computer's USB 2.0 port work with it?
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,
The USB Cable will work. But some models of iPod's dont charge over USB - what model do you have?

  • Maximum cable lengths for USB / FW / DVI & sVGA?

I've hunted around on the net and can't find any kind of definitive answer regarding maximum cable lengths for USB, Firewire 400/800 and DVI / sVGA monitors. Can anyone shed some light?
I'm about to shift my studio into a new room, and have the oppourtunity to stick my G5 and external drives into a corridor cupboard adjacent to where my studio is - in other words, noise free bliss! But....
...if I map out how far my computer monitors, keyboard and audio interface will be from the cupboard, and take into account the twists and turns involved in neat routing, I'm looking at a distance of about 10 meters. I need to know if any of these devices will be OK with such a long run of cable, and if not, if it's possible to achieve a good result using hubs or repeaters?
So, can anyone help me out with info on:
    an Apogee Ensemble (Firewire 400)
    an Apple keyboard (USB 2.0)
    an LCD flatscreen (DVI)
    and another LCD flatscreen (sVGA)
    Many thanks!

I was just researching the very same thing, though it does not  sound like my studio setup will be as sweet as yours. Here are a few things I ran across:
    FIREWIRE-
"The maximum cable length specified by the IEEE1394 standard is 4.5 meters. However, more recent tests have shown that certain high quality firewire cables can achieve longer lengths without significantly affecting transmission quality. Several manufacturers sell firewire cables longer than 5 meters (some up to 50 meters)."
I found an example of a company who claims to sell a firewire cable of that length:

There is forum discussion on the topic I was reading yesterday:
    http://www.everythingusb.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=804
But don't go past the 11th post or so, they go off on another subject... the use of hubs & the words "active extension" in that post caught my eye. A quick google search came up with this site:
    http://www.everythingusb.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=804
There were a bunch sites with devices claiming to do this.
Finally I have this chart, which seems to support what what the articles say, without of course any other extension technology/solutions:
    http://www.extron.com/company/article.aspx?id=dedigform10
I'm not making any claims at all about how true these sources are, I just have the same questions and decided to toss what I've been looking at into the discussion. Feel free anyone to jump in and tell me its all wrong - I'd love to hear whats right.

  • Cable needed for connection?

  • Adaptor needed for iPad Charger in Tibet and Nepal

I am going to Tibet and Nepal at the end of September. Will I need an adaptor to plug in my iPhone and iPad 2 chargers?

For #1, yes, if you want it to charge quckly, like with the supplied wall charger. The wall charger is 5Volts at 2 amps. Most currently available car chargers are less than that.
For # 2, anything that is active on the ipad, like wifi, 3g or bluetooth will cause slightly increased power useage. For maximum charge life, turn off the bluetooth and 3G when not needed. Same with wifi. If you are using 3g at the park, you don't really need the wifi turned on.
How many minutes of charge time this will save.... I can't say. Anywhere from a few minutes, up.

  • Extra power cable needed for a SATA drive in a G4 AGP "Sawtooth"?

If one adds a SATA controller card and a SATA hard drive to a G4 AGP "Sawtooth", will a power cable like the one at the below link be needed, or would the necessary power cabling ordinarily come with the drive?

Thanks for the additional information, japamac.
That would be Left (or right angle 270º) for the data cable.
Which of the below data cables would be more appropriate, the 18" long one or the 39" long one?

Power connectors would be a left angle 90º to get wires going up.
I found the below two (the first is the same one linked near the top of this thread):

Is it okay to have one of the ends of a "Y" cable remain unconnected? I've done that with my existing ATA power cables, but I wanted make sure that that is also okay with the SATA power cables.

  • Algorithm help needed for electrically charged metallic sphere simulation

I am making a simulation program using Java which takes into account the gravity, air resistance as well as electrical forces of the two charged metal spheres.
    The user can input/select:
    1) The initial velocity for each metallic sphere
    2) The variables in g = MG/(r+h)^2 Newton's law of gravitation (so gravity is SLIGHTLY different per metallic sphere depending on the height from the surface of the Earth - assuming the user chooses Earth)
    3) Metallic spheres' charges
    4) Dielectric constant
    5) Separation distance
    6) Drag coefficient
    7) Radius of metallic spheres
    8) Horizontal position
    9) Mass of metallic spheres
    10) Vacuum
    11) Air
    12) Other medium
My question is: How do I make it so that these change over time where the time is determined by a javax.swing.Timer object? In other words, I want the Timer object to change at least one thing which will then change something else and cause a chain reaction such that when the metallic spheres are drawn, there is motion hence it becomes an animation.
I just need the initial push to get started because I haven't yet "seen the light". So I would appreciate it very much if someone could help me see how to change the very first datum that will cause a domino-effect and then the animation.
    Thanks in advance!

Ok so this is what I'm planning to do but just wanted to know if it's the best way to go about it:
    a = v/s => g = v/s (where g is not a constant but varies very slightly)
and then v = gs and update the velocity every 100 milliseconds. (0.1 seconds).
before re-updating the velocity again I am planning to update the position (I'm not thinking about other stuff yet) based on the velocity via:
    v = p/s => vs = p
where for all cases s is seconds s = s+100milliseconds if whoever you are reading this right now didn't know for whatever reason.

  • DVI to S-Video & Composite plug cable needed for output to audio/TV system

I'm in need of a DVI to S-Video and Composite plug cable to replace the Monster iTV Link cable I used with my 12" Aluminum PowerBook. (http://www.monstercable.com/apple/Computer.asp) I use it to output to my audio/TV system.
Whereas the PowerBook used a mini-DVI port and had the audio output jack on the same side of the computer, the MacBook Pro uses a full size DVI port and has the audio jack on the opposite side!
I've been unable to find a cable so that I can connect up to a TV. Does anyone know where I can find one? Or perhaps a DVI to mini-DVI adapter? Or perhaps a VGA to S-Video/Composite cable and I can use the DVI to VGA adapter that came with the computer?
    This is very frustrating!

Apple's video adapters have a ROM chip inside them with EDID data contained within the ROM. That is one thing that will definitely be different between the two. The NTSC and PAL version (M9267G/A) gives priority to NTSC. This could cause problems in a PAL country. If you hooked a PAL TV up using this adapter, you might get a rolling (non-synced) screen and you'd have no good way to recover since the image on the screen would be unusable.
I don't think one adapter would have any advantage over the other in terms of PAL picture quality. It would just be a question of compatibility as outlined above. That's my best guess.

    Hi,
the iMac 9.1 (otherwise known as the "Early 2009" model) has a Mini DisplayPort output port http://support.apple.com/kb/SP507
So a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is what you need http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1NDg

  • Firewire Cable Needed For File transfer Between Old iMac & New iMac.

I have an iMac G4 (Flat Panel) - just got the the iMac 21.5! Need to transfer files between old & new iMac.
Is the 6 pin to 6 pin the correct cable I'm going to need to get my files transfered ???

No. The new iMacs have FireWire 800, which is 9-pin. Older Macs have FireWire 400, which is 6-pin. You need something like this.

  • Replacement serial cable needed for an Apple Color Stylewriter 2500

    Hello,
I have a question. I lost the serial printer cable for an Apple Color Stylewriter 2500, but if I order a replacement serial printer cable from we love macs, will the cable still work just as good as the original apple cable? I didn't want to have troubles with printing and data errors with the replacement cable. Or should I try to get as close to original one as I can?
Any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks.

With Apple, you only have 14 days to return a product. Due to the design of the iPad, there's no way to make any changes - color, battery, screen glass, amount of memory, etc -  to the iPad.

That Power Supply has the 24 Pin Cable as part of its cables. You do not need any adapters.

  • Can I detect USB cable unplugged for USB 6229

I am using a USB 6229 to control a moving machine. As a safety mechanism, I would like to be able to detect if the USB cable becomes unplugged and stop the machine.
I thought maybe I could use the Watchdog functions in DAQmx to achieve this, but I get an error which says that watchdogs are not supported on the 6229. Does anyone know if there is a way to detect the USB cable is unplugged on the 'machine' side of the 6229, please? I could build my own watchdog timer and control it using digital I/O lines, but I wondered if I was missing something obvious?
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
I don't believe you'll be able to do set this up with your USB 6229. There aren't any safety features like watchdog timers on that device and I don't believe there's a signal or anything generated when the USB cable is unplugged. Your best bet would be to build your own watch dog timer or perhaps look at a DIO device with this functionality built in.

  • Why is my 4th generation ipod touch not charge? I plug it into the computer and the wall and with 2 different usb cables and its not charging. When its plugged in it shows the icon for charging but the battery never increases and it dies once i disconnect

I have a 4th generation Ipod Touch. It has been working for months when yesterday the battery started acting werid. I was driving and it was connected with the usb charger cable to my car stereo when all the sudden my music stopped and the stereo could not recognize my ipod at all. When I got back home, I tried to charge it so it wouldnt die but even while on the charger in the wall the battery continued to die. I charged it over night (the first time I have ever charged it over night) desperately to have battery for a 4 o clock plane flight so I would have entertianment. The ipod died over night while on the charger. When I unplugged it from the usb charging cable I noticed that the icon telling me the ipod needed to be charged came up. So I plugged it back in. The charging thunder bolt symbol popped up next to the very small red strip on the left side of the battery indicating that the ipod had no charge to turn its self on. I tried plugging it in on the computer, the wall ac charger and a stereo system made just for the ipod that also pluggs into the wall. I have used 2 different cables, the result being the same that the ipod held no charge, and it wouldnt charge at all while on the charger, and it would imediately die once i take it off the charger.
I have not idea what has happened ....
    Please help
    THanks!

    - While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.

  • Even genuine iphone 5 usb charging cable does not work for an year?

I have bought an iphone 5 last year. With it, came the  original apple genuine iphone 5 lightning USB cable. It did not last for half year. I had to buy another original apple iphone 5 similar cable and it was gone within 3 months. I dont understand is it cable manufacturing problem? is apply selling fake cables? It is really annoying and I am really angry that such a reputed company cant give/ provide proper long lasting cables.
My experience with these two genuine cables was that after some months of  usage, i used to observe even if its plugged it would not charge, or if you push it hard its charging. Firstly, I never keep my phone charging all time. Then how the hack can the charging cable die? or problem arise. I bought the phone and the charging cables when I was germany. I had to buy a 20 euro local companys USB charging cable after above two stopped working with no signs of damage. I have also tried cleaning the charging jack or socket where cable is inserted. It did not help. This local charging cable started to torn out automatically and it got fully damaged, Now I am in India, I bought another cable of 10 euros and it is just two days, it would not charge again.
I am really furious now whether you use original or local USB cables they dont last for even a week? what the ****?
Do I need to really pay for those portable charger with a big price tag, that my problem will be solved? very very upset. I never have any complaint with the phone, but the charging catastrophies, really ****** me off. I think of going back to other mobile brands like samsung or nokia where there is never a charging issue or battery drainage issue once you charge its goes for days or it  is also expensive buy a nokia or samsung charger if lose it or break it. but for iphones its really bugging situation and not just me many people around the world are having sick problem with iphone brand with charging ISSUES.
APPLE PLEASE SORT THE PROBLEM OR SELL the PORTABLE IPHONE CHARGERS (WIRELESS) CHEAPER so that we dont have to use these silly little lightning cables. or I fear my APPLE I PHONE 5 is not genuine or its FAKE.
    PLEASE HELP>

Look closely at the way you handle the cables. I have never had any cable, Apple or third-party, fail on me.
