Is camera connection kit slower than MIDI Interface?

I have purchased the camera connection kit for use with the new iPad. I am using it with Yamaha's set list designer.
The keyboard I'm using it with is a Yamaha S 90 XS.
I have it hooked up with the USB cable through the camera connection kit.
This app sends program changes according to a set list over MIDI.
When I connected to the keyboard the iPad says this device is not compatible.
However it shows up as a device and everything works fine except that it's very slow.
I'm wondering if a MIDI interface like the Yamaha or line 6 would give me a better result.
Has anyone out there have experience using  the midi interface vs. the camera connection kit?
Is either one more responsive than the other one.
Thanks and best regards,
Lpiano

I don't know when you used it last, but there was a firmware upgrade in 2011 that reduced the amount of power allocated to the 30 pin port - and with that the ability for the iPad to recognize and work with many USB devices that had worked before (even more confusing, articles are still out there saying such and such will work, but they were written before the upgrade)
the only work around I've seen some suggest is to use a powered USB hub, but if you've already tried that then you may just be out of luck

  • TS1702 Using an iPad camera connection kit and a MIDI to USB cable to interface a MIDI keyboard with GarageBand. It works flawlessly... almost...

I'm using an iPad camera connection kit and a MIDI to USB cable to interface a MIDI keyboard with GarageBand. It works flawlessly... until I use the sustain pedal. Once the pedal is depressed while playing a given note, from then on, the pedal itself plays the note every time it is depressed. It's not the keyboard or the pedal. I've tried others. That leaves the app or the connection between the iPad and the keyboard. I find it hard to believe I'm the only person who is experiencing this problem. Anyone have a fix?

Yes.  There are a ton of write-ups on how to do the connections.   I connect my m-audio Keystation 61 es through the CCK to my iPad and use GarageBand to control it.  Some keyboards require a powered USB hub to make things work.  I use a belkin 4 port hub in my own setup.   Here is a link to tested / verified keyboards that work via the CCK:  http://iosmidi.com/devices/

  • MIDI, Gargeband, Camera connection kit...

Current setup: I have a Kawai Digital Piano, with both a plain double MIDI connector, and a USB connector (also for MIDI). I use a normal USB <> USB cable purchased from BB to connect the piano to my MBP, where I use GarageBand to record and edit music.
Optimal setup: Use the same piano and the same USB cable to plug into a Camera Connection Kit, which would then plug into my iPad. I could record and edit music with GarageBand for iPad.
Question: Is this possible? Namely, will the camera connection kit/ iOS recognize a USB midi interface, or do I need to buy a MIDI <> MIDI cable, plus a MIDI <> Dock connector adapter. (if so, what works, I haven't been able to find a definitive answer/review). And then, will GarageBand recognize this? How? Will it record as if I was playing the Touch Instrument, or as just audio? What other apps would work for this?
    Thanks in advance. :)
    Liam
note: No, I don't have a Camera Connection Kit yet, I can't quite justify the $30 just for occasional downloads from an SD card, but if this worked as described above it would be worth it

I believe this is possible. There is a Youtube Video showing some guy using a You Rock midi guitar contoller plugged into the camea connection kit to input notes into Garage Band. You have to look up the video. Keywords ipad, garage band, you rock, guitar.
I'm planning on buying the You Rock midi guitar and apple camera connection kit myself.

  • RAW picture previews loading extremely slow since IOS 8 using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit

    Hi all
First, sorry for my poor english, I hope you understand my problem.
Device is iPad Air Wi-Fi with IOS 8.
I just realized this issue yesterday. I wanted to import some of my RAW pictures from my Nikon camera's SD card, using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit. In the Photos app / Import tab, the RAW picture previews show extremely slow. It takes a second to show each photo preview before import. A second for every single picture preview
For example, if you have 500 pictures on your SD card, and you want to import pictures from this card but just some selected, then you need to wait for an overview preview a lot of minutes. On IOS 7 this process was maybe 10 seconds for all of the pictures...

Same problem here. As a professional wedding photographer, sifting through my photos while on the go is the reason for me purchasing the iPad (Retina) 2 years ago, I now have an $800 paperweight after iOS8.x.x. Apple, if you actually read these, please inform your engineers to fix this in the next update or at least provide us with a solution to return to iOS7.x.x. Makes me wonder if there is any QA or testing that goes on before an update is released. As an FYI, here's my thread from a few weeks ago: Native Photos App, Slow... No, I mean really slow.

  • Camera Connection Kit and MIDI keyboard: device not supported

I have a Roland RD-700SX stage piano and would like to be able to play sounds from my iPad 2 synth app (Sunrizer) via the real keyboard. Got the camera connection kit and plugged into the Roland, but the iPad tells me the RD device is not supported. How do I get it supported?
I've read that there may be issues with iOS 8 (I have 8.1.2). Is that truly the case?

After the original introduction of the iPad 2, Apple reduced to power levels of the 30 pin connector so as to severely limit the type of USB peripherals that can be used with iPads. There is no way, any longer,  to use a USB device that draws too much power from iPad's that use the 30-pin connector.
I am not sure if that is still true of newer iPad's that use the Lightning type connector, but you can NOT use any high power USB device with any iPad OR any other older iDevice that uses the older 30-pin connector.
This is NOT an IOS issues or limitation, but a hardware limitation.

  • My camera connection kit is slow on my iPad 4 iOS 7.1

I have my camera connection kit connect to my iPad 4th Gen running iOS 7.1 and the images are taking ages to load!
It's been 15 minutes now and the preview thumbnails are not even loaded, it's still loading all the pics from my DSLR.
I read a few forum discussions online that people had this issue on iOS 7 but for most the problem was resolved after the 7.1 update but for me it's still the same.
I am actually using a third party camera connection kit so I don't know if it's related to the adapter or iOS but looking at the previous issues I think it may be iOS.

I have planned to go to the apple store and buy a Apple USB to lightning port adapter to connect my camera through. Hopefully it does solve the problem.
I will try it out there once I buy it. Hopefully you are right and it is the third party adapter which is the problem.

  • Does camera connection kit work with other brands than Apple?

Bought the New iPad and the Camera Connection Kit yesterday.During a world wide tourist trip, I want to be able to transfer jpg-pictures and mp4-movies from my mobile phones microSD card to my iPad.
All sales personell, at different shops, including an "Apple Specialist" assured me that this was no problem.
All of them know that my mobilephone is not an iphone, it is a Nokia N8-00 with Belle version of Symbian.
But at home, I found that the iPad does not find any of the picture/movie-files.
How can I get the iPad to understand where to look in the file system on a microSD card.
I also tried the USB-cable solution, but it did not accept the mobilephone. "does not support...."
What to do? Return all the equipment to the store?

You could try a powered USB hub to see if this solves the problem.

  • Apple Camera Connection Kit

Does the Apple Camera Connection Kit enable to use all USB audio interfaces with GarageBand on the iPad? Even on the Mac some audio interfaces require drivers. How does it work on the iPad? Is there a list of supported audio interfaces that can be used with the GarageBand on the iPad?

No. Only core audio or midi devices work. Here's a list that works for the Auria app on the iPad... most probably would work with Garageband:

  • Third Party 2 in 1 Camera Connection Kit and iOS 4.2

Has anyone tried the third party 2 in 1 Camera Connection Kit with iOS 4.2? This is the connector that has both the SD slot as well as the USB slot in one unit, rather than the two separate units on the Apple branded one. The third party one is cheaper and 1 less thing to carry around or potentially lose.
    Thanks!

  • IPad Camera Connection Kit doesn't work

Some time ago I ordered from the Apple Store an iPad Camera Connection Kit.
This morning, when testing it, the following happens :
    - SD card reader : when testing the SD card reader with the card from our camera, the message below is displayed :
         "Contents not available
Cannot read the connected storage media"
Strange, as the camera has taken hundreds of pictures, and when checking the card on my MBA I can access the card's subfolders without any problem.
    - USB camera connector :This works well (with the same card as mentioned above plugged into the camera).
Does anyone have experience with the SD card reader ?
    Thanks.
Note : in the iPad Camera Connection Kit documentation, reference is made to the iPad user guide. However, that user guide, a circular reference is made to the connection kit documentation.

Is the SD card one that was formatted by your camera? In order for the CCK to read the card, all the photos need to be in a directory name DCIM and they need to have 8-character file names. This is the way digital cameras generally format things. However, if you put the photos on the card yourself, you might have done it differently.
I use the SD card reader quite a bit as it's easier for me than keeping track of yet another cable. Once or twice, my iPad didn't see it. A reset of the iPad fixed that. Press and hold the Home button and the power button until the silver apple appears.

  • I have an ipad that has photos on it, and am trying to get those photos to an SDHC card. I put the card in my camera connection kit device and went to the slideshow option and selected copy and nothing happened. Am I using the wrong method?

I am trying to get photos from a friends i pad to mine so that I can make a slide show for him. I tried using my i pad camera connection kit with a SDHC card in it and followed the instructions in the manual. I got to the part where it had me select COPY from the drop down menu. When I did that nothing happened. Can this be done at all?

only option is to download an app for bluetooth transfer which may be quite slow, checkout 'Bump' or search for photo transfer or similar.

  • Camera connection kit w/USB says cannot work uses too much power

When using the camera connection kit /USB the message cannot use device it uses too much power pops up!

What are trying to use it with ? If you are connecting it to your camera then does your camera have a setting on it to enable PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol, Pictbridge) or Mass Storage Device ? If you are trying to use a third-party card reader or a flash-drive with the kit to copy photos/videos over to the iPad, then a lot of them require more power than is supplied to the iPad's port - if you have a powered card reader or a single-card reader (i.e. not one that has different slots for different types of memory card) then that might have a better chance of working

  • Camera connect kit

Camera connect kit will not show video on iPad running iOS 4, it just shows a file with AVI. The wifes iPad which has not yet been updated to run iOS 4. Will run the videos no problem anyone help please?

I understand the above replies but how come the camera kit works with the wife's iPad and not mine all it shows is a picture of a file with AVI printed on the icon, I have done nothing different loading onto my iPad than I did with the wife's. I tried to load mine first and it did not work then tried the other and it was fine. I have tried removing the files and trying again still to no avail. The iPad has 60% of the memory available. Any other ideas?

  • Camera connection kit USB

Hello, When I'm travelling I like to make create music on my iPad.
The USB camera connection kit is great even for plugging the tiny USB MIDI keyboards and work with GarageBand.
I find unbelievable that the same USB camera connection kit doesn't work with my new 4S. That's a very bad news.
Why don't make GarageBand compatible with this accessory even on the iPhone?
Thousands of musicians have an iPhone and will have a real benefit from the possibility to plug an USB MIDI device on the iPhone.

The fact is that is just a question of software, Apple could fix it anytime.
I believe that many people expect that one relatively expensive accessory can be used with ALL the i-Devices manufactured by Apple. Seeing the sentence "This accessory is not suppoprted" is nerving for customers.
This Connection Kit opens to musicians an incredibly wide range of opportunities to make what they love to do with the most lovely devices ever made for Music.
Is it possible to improve what is the best? I think yes.
Apple, just think different and make possible that iPod Touch, iPhone can be compatible with the Camera Connection Kit and MIDI devices. I think that I'm not alone, do you agree?

  • Overcharged for Camera Connection Kit

    Hi,
I just bought a iPad Camera Connection Kit from a third-party reseller in Singapore for SGD45. I realised the price that the Singapore Apple Store is selling for SGD38. Is the reseller allowed to sell at a higher price (in this case, 18% higher)? And if not, what recourse can I seek?
    Thanks in advance!
    Johnny

    Thank you for your answer.
It's not so much about the small difference in price that bothers me. I was just wondering if it is legal (at least by Apple's stringent standards) that resellers sell at higher than usual cos the rest of the physical Apple stores I've seen are selling at the same price as the online store.
