IS Catch Weight Management vs. REM

Hi,
Note 1180040 says that repetitive manufacturing is not supported in CWM. Does that mean that you can't use REM at all or can I still use REMfor materials which are not CWM enabled.
Any experiences?
thanks,
-simo

Hi
You cannot user REM for CWM material types.  For others you can stil use.

  • Catch Weight Management - CWM: Classic Accounting VS Inventory Accounting

    Hello dear experts,
The info below was extracted from this link: SAP Catch Weight Management - SAP Library
    The link says:
To implement SAP CWM, you need the following components:
    · SAP ERP Central Component (SAP ECC)
    · LIME as a component of SAP AP (for inventory management)
    · Inventory Accounting based on SAP SEM
After you have installed the components you must activate the SAP CWM solution at client level.
I understand that you have to "install" LIME and Inventory Accounting in order to activate CWM, but my question is:
Do we have to "implement/use" Inventory Accounting in order to use CWM? or is Inventory Accounting just an option that is offered with CWM and the only requirement is to "install it but not necessarily implement/use it"?
We are currently operating under Classic Accounting and we would like to stay like that for the moment, but we would also like to implement CWM, so we're looking for some guidance.
Can we use Classic Accounting and CWM together?
This is the last piece of info we need before we make a decision as to whether or not to implement CWM.

  • Catch Weight Management UD

    Hi gurus.
I'm trying to post stock to unrestricted from giving usage decision to various inspection lots, but I simply can't. When I try to save the UD, the next message appears:
Material 100003 is not a catch weight material
    Message no. /CWM/MD009
There are catch weight materials and non catch weight as well, does this mean that I can't have QM inspections in all material types? There wasn't any problem with creation of inspection plan or inspection setup at any moment.
Thanks in advance for you help.
    Arturo

    1)It happens with status
    INSP RREC SPRQ
    and
    REL  CALC SPRQ
    2)The quantity in QA02 is 300 UN.
The quantity to post in unrestricted is also 300 UN.
We just found the note 1490528:
"When determining conversion factors using alternative units of measure from
the material master, the system does not take into account that Catch
Weight Management (CWM) is activated. As a result, following the processing
of the load file, there are times when you may receive the message
/CWM/MD009 "Material _ is not a catch weight Material."."
I'll let you know if this helped.
    Greetings.

    Hi,
SAP CWM provides processes and functions to allow materials to be carried in two independent units of measure throughout the entire supply chain (sales and distribution, purchasing, materials management, production, quality management and logistics execution). SAP CWM also contains costing and inventory management functions and supports integration of Financial Accounting and Controlling, allowing you to map requirements in the valuation area.

  • Catch Weight Management Activation Dilemma

    Hello experts,
We're looking into activating Catch Weight Management in our development client or a sandbox client. We have read the documentation available, but we have found what seems to be either a "contradiction" in the documentation, or a "misunderstanding" on our side. It is probably just a misunderstanding on our side, so we would appreciate some clarification on this.
The following link says that:  Note that this activation affects all clients and that you cannot reverse the characterization of the ERP system as SAP CWM.
Activation of SAP Catch Weight Management - SAP Catch Weight Management - SAP Library
This other link says that: Before you can use SAP Catch Weight Management (SAP CWM), you must activate SAP CWM at client level.
Activating SAP Catch Weight Management - SAP Catch Weight Management - SAP Library
The questions is: Can we activate CWM in our development client or a sandbox client without affecting the other clients (QA and Production)?
This is a big irreversible change, that's why we need proper clarification before we make a change.

    Hi Oscar,
When you activate CWM, it will strip your ERP of some reports, t-codes, and functionality.
You choose on material level if material is standard or CWManaged.
To answer your question, it is implemented on Client level, and you assign the indicator for CWM on material level. You need to maintain CWM view.
In addition please read SAP Note 886761. It tells you what major changes/retrictions are implemented after CWM activation.
Also, if you are using RF devices in WM, and you want to process CWM materials through RF too, you will need to implement this - SAP note 738159 : Catch Weight with Radio Frequency.
It isn't that easy to do that, but after implementing the changes, you will have screens for CWM on your RF devices.
Otherwise, you would always get an error that you need to enter the qty in parallel unit of measure...
Please read this thoroughly, it will help you catch up wth CWM

    Case 1:
I update 3 software component above the same level to active Catch Weight Management with Tcode SFW5 and SPRO -> active OK . But my system is freshly. Therefore,  i don't have any configuration to demo -> I don't like this case
    Case 2
With purpose to have configuration to demo
I decide to take configuration of client 101 from another DEV system ( this client 101 is actived Material Ledger) by export / import client with Tcode SCC8 and SCC7
Then I import configuration of client 101 into client 100
After import into client 100 successfully and I have a client 100 which configured. Then  I active function Catch Weight Management with Tcode SFW5 and SPRO ( I updated 3 software component above the same level too) ->  Not Active

  • Catch Weight Item

    Hi,
We maintain catch weight item's in food processing industry. We should be able to procure goods based on the items that will accomodate in each pallet. The purchaser should be able to see the total cases required per layer and total layers required for per pallet.
We maintain UoM in material master, please let me know how the system can calculate the requirement based on cases for each material. We need to have this requirement in planning screen, so that the purchaser will finalise the quantity by looking the number of cases that is required for each pallet.
    Thank you.

    Good day
    We have a similar issue.
In our system the line item type for the CW product was IDCW.  When we however split them by batch into two sub-lines, the new lines defaulted to IDLV (instead of the expected IDCW).
So I think Alexander's diagnosis is spot on?
My question though...  What logic does EWM use to derive the item type for the sub-lines?  Because surely it should be the same as the 'parent' line item (IDCW in the case) ?
    Please advise
    Callie

  • Catch weight support

    Hi experts,
Our customer sells Cases (CS), each CS with its specific weight (Lb). Each CS has a unique ID, bar coded. They receive an order for N Cases, select the cases to ship and bill by Lbs. How would you manage it? Do we need an add-on solution?.
    What we have done:
    1. Define each case as a differeny batch, with Qty equals its specific weight in Lbs.
    2. Define an average conversion factor, let's say 10 Lbs per Case.
    3. Once the order for 5 CS (50 Lbs in theory) is converted to a Delivery document, 5 different batches (CS) are selected.
    4. The total weight for the 5 CS selected (let's say between 46 and 55 Lbs) differs from the expected quantity of the order (50 Lbs), so it doesn't let you add the Delivery document  without going back to the main delivery and "changing manually" the actual quantity to be delivered in Lbs.
    How would you solve it?
    Thanks for prompt answer,
    Andres

    Hi Castri,
    As Below -
In SO record the cases to be delivered in a UDF. CORRECT. OK
A formatted search can multiply this by a factor and convert this into SO qty in kgs. IT GETS THE THEORETICAL QUANTITY (WEIGHT).
Yes Let SO be in theoretical weight
Let the SO qty and Delivery qty be recored in kgs (Inventory UOM). Billing shall also be in kgs. CORRECT, BUT HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT IS GOING TO BE BEFORE SELECTING THE CASES?. In SBO, the Delivery can be made for a qty (kgs) which is greater or less than the SO Qty (kgs). Make Delivery for the Actual Qty Modify the "Cases" or "Packs" UDF value to the Actual number of cases being delivered. As i understand this should conform to the No of cases Ordered.
In SAP, at Delivery the delivered batches (cases) are selected and the delivery qty is recorded in kgs. BEFORE YOU START SELECTING YOU HAVE TO MODIFY THE TOTAL QUANTIY (WEIGHT), OF THE CASES, WHICH IS IMPRACTICAL (CANCEL SELECTION, MODIFY TOTAL WEIGHT AND BACK TO SELECT THE CASES AGAIN). SAP is just matching the SO KGS with the DELIVERY KGS and even then there is no restriction that it has to be exactly the same unless this is a validation addded by you at this site. Note if you want to record the case-wise weight (weight of each case being delivered) this can also be recorded in "Packages" screen. From Delivery screen Open the Menu item Goto -> Packaging. Please try here and you can create a Case/ Pack master and then record case-wise weight here. The Delivered KGS will get carried forward to the AR Invoice and you can Invoice the Customer accordingly.
SO and Delivery PLDs can reflect the SO and cases Delivered cases as well. is that as needed. CORRECT.
Please let me know your comments.

  • FM to fetch BUOM and PUOM for catcha weight materials

    Hi,
Any body know the FMs to fetch BUOM(Base unit of measure) Quantity and PUOM(Parllel unit of measure) quantity.
    Please pass it to me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sada

    Hi,
BUOM is the  Unit of measure in which stocks of the material are managed and it is also called as stock keeping unit.
Order unit is the unit of measure in which u r going to place the order. In sales,it is called as sales unit.In purchasing,it is purchasing unit. You need to maintain alternate unit of conversion if you are maintaing these order units.
In your case wt unit in basic data 1 is the unit of the gross wt maintained. If u want maintain any wt in under dimensions of the material, you have to define wt unit. For this no necessary to maintain alternate unit of measure
    Hope it helps

  • Catch Weight Mgmt and WM

    Hello,
We have CWM installed and right now we have storage bins (FP) defined in IM and reserve bins defined in WM. I am not sure why this was done, but it causes unnecessary movements between the 2 storage locations. I am wondering if running CWM is the reason for this setup. Also, I have read that if you run CWM, you need to use Inventory Accounting, is this true?
We have the requirement of valuating stock by parallel unit of measure.

The storage bins might have been created as a part of business requirement.
If you run CWM the following are a paart of it in edition to SAP ECC
    - LIME as a component of SAP AP (for inventory management)
    - Inventory Accounting based on SAP SEM
