Is CF10 working optimally
CF10 tomcat logs indicate it is not working optimally. Is the INFO message following normal operation or something to worry about?

Djkhalif, whatever you’re experiencing, I seriously doubt it’s related to what Carl mentioned above. What he reported is not an “error”. It is this way for everyone running CF10 by default.
As for whatever problem you’re having, I’d recommend a) you create a new thread and b) you provide more details on what’s wrong.
First, you say “The migration went smoothly until I noticed my charts were not rendering.” Well, that would likely just be a problem of mapping in your web server, I suspect. It’s very easy (especially on a machine that was first setup to run with CF9) for things to get a little out of sync, with entries in the web server for both CF9 and CF10, if you’re not really (really) careful.
But them moving on to your “clean install”, is that on a new machine? And when you say “boom I get nothing”, do you really mean you get a “blank page”? Are you making your request using the built-in web server? An external web server? What happens if you try one or the other? What errors are in the logs.
Now, let me be clear: I am not asking you these questions to have you reply here. I really (really) think you should create a new thread, because what you’re raising has seemingly nothing to do with the original post (OP). I’m proposing that when you DO open that new thread, and repeat your problem below, you would do well (to get folks to help) to answer the questions above while you do it. No need to refer back to this message, or to me. (And I’ll note that I may or may not get to reply to that thread. I don’t see and reply to everyone one. I hope I will be able to, though. And hope you sort things out. )

RESPONSES:
1) When I set up my iMac, I did not transfer any data directly from my windows PC. I simply used the same iTunes login and account. I have access to all of the files via the "Purchased" section of the iTunes store. If I click "Download Previous Purchases" text, I can download ALL of the purchases I have ever made.
2) I have the Apple TV 2, so good news, question answered. I thought maybe it was the Apple TV 1, but it is the Black model, so bam. Good response for you. Well the whole damned reply is an awesome response, just pointing out that one piece of awesome. I stated that it was an Apple TV 2, and yet you were still good enough to figure I could be mistaken, and provide me with knowleedge just incase.
QUESTIONS:
3) So can my iMac not stream the data directly from itunes, without download? Apple TV can, but perhaps that is something among many things that maker it unique, and awesome.

Windows 7 doesn't work optimal

i've installed W7 with bootcamp and all the drivers + bootcamp 3.1 and bootcamp 3.2, but my graphics doesn't work optimaal. ormaal kleurt de taakbalk mee met de achtergrond, maar mijne is grijs - blauw en ik kan het niet veranderen bij mijn persoonlijke instelligen.
Wat moet ik doen?Shorter battery life; hotter; trouble getting graphic device to be recognized; trouble getting latest ATI or Nvidia driver; almost no fan control for some systems.
Until you can download Boot Camp 3.2 alone directly (say from Boot CAmp Assistant, can't have just anyone unless they can verify they have 10.6.7) so you can avoid two year old buggy drivers.
Buggy? Yes. AppleHFS and MNT. Not like you can easily opt out of installing, or when installed, turn off the driver service like most.
Windows on Mac is not 100% seamless.
Of course I think people have a distorted idea that Mac OS is hand-crafted to fit and work perfect and that they need to have some hand-holding.
Boot CAmp Assistant gives me/us a lot of trouble having to explain how, or why someone can't, and why they may need to erase and restore to get contiguous free space.
Microsoft and Apple both under-estimate the minimum recommended partition space.
BCA should warn if partitioning will leave less than 20% free space.
Most VM installers will have recommendations for various guest OSs, so if someone wants 64-bit Windows it would have 40GB or more.
Support for linux native partitions? why Windows only?
There is a HUGE incentive: switchers; people that now need a Mac to interface with another Apple device.
My peeve: iTunes loses its playback screen image during videos (movie or music) if UAC blanks the screen. Come on, years of this. And I rate iTunes 64-bit on Windows the least well integrated and designed of anything I run or install (and I don't install or use any other Apple app if I can help it). -
PDF printing with PDFCreator not working optimally in FireFox4. Can firefox3 printing be enable?
In Firefox 4 printing seems to have changed in a way that negatively impacts PDF printing. I use PDFCreator an open source PDF printer. Changes to Firefox 4 seem to make it impossible to pass of text to a ghostscript style PDF printer rather it hands off all the text as images which makes the PDF files much larger and none searchable. Is there a way to disable this behavior in Firefox 4 so that works like it did in 3?
PS This problem seems to impact all PS2PDF/Ghostscript based PDF printers/virtual printers including PDFCreator, CutePDF, BullZip and othersHi,
I had this problem too. I found a workaround though: Run Firefox 4 in Safe Mode, which disables all addons. The PDF when printed will be searchable and very low in size.
The key now is to find out which addon is breaking this function. Hope others can do some testing and shed some light on this. -
I read in this thread that when Safari ceases to function on Windows Vista, deleting Safari's preferences will allow it to start functioning again
Deleting the necessary files actually fixes the problem, and I've created a batch file for deleting the files when necessary:

Andrew J. LeerThank you for responding. As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
my Asus machine.

9470m Intel Rapid Start, Intel Rapid Storage. Is it working?
When we image our Elitebook Folio 9470m SSD notebooks with Windows 7, part of the imaging process is to install Intel Rapid Storage and Rapid Start on all these notebooks. We download the drivers from the support.hp.com driver download page for Windows 7 Profession 64-bit.
The software/drivers installs successfully with no errors, but as far as I can tell, the laptops are not booting or shutting down faster than other model laptops with SSDs that do not have this software installed. May even be slower, because it seems like the Rapid Start Technology is hanging and delaying the the shut down process when we shut down the laptops.
We have verbose status messages enabled, so when shutting down the laptops, we often see a message saying something that roughly says in other words "waiting for Intel Rapid Start Technology to shut down."
What is installing this software really accomplishing and is it effective on SSD disks and disks that have full disk encryption installed?
How can I tell if this software is doing the job it is supposed to be doing or maybe we should stop installing it on our notebooks all together?Are these using regular 2.5 inch SSDs or mSATA mSSDs? I suspect the issue is with Intel Rapid Start. That is solely for the purpose of hibernating and recovering from hibernation faster. It really serves no other purpose and works optimally with an mSATA cache drive (which your model does not have) but does improve resume from sleep on any SSD. Intel Rapid Storage enables native command queing but that is in place anyway if the storage controller is set to ahci. I would also suspect that if your drives are encrypted fully, then Intel Rapid Start is having a problem trying to write startup information to the drive and that accounts for the hang at shutdown. Do you configure the laptops to use hibernation?
I would get two otherwise identical machines and configure one with and one without Intel Rapid Start and see if you notice any difference in bootup and shutdown time. Even on those where you have already installed Rapid Start, it can be turned off in the BIOS, thus disabling it. Personally I do not use hibernation so I do not enable Rapid Start in the BIOS and do not install the software. Rapid Storage should not cause a problem. -
How do I check USB 3 is working ok on a Touchsmart 520 ?
Hi I have recently upgraded to a Touchsmart 520 1080UK. WIn7 Home Premium 64.
I have a Western Digital external portable drive (1TB), that I used to backup my files from my old PC. The WD drive is USB3 and has the USB3 (blue) cable.
Backup from my old acer via USB2 worked fine but took a while. When I restored to my Touchsmart I roughly got the same data transfer speeds as I di dfor USB2 although I was using the USB3 port. I was seeing approx 25mb/s. I though with USB3 I shoul dhave been seeing 3 digit speeds ie at leat 200mb/s ?
The box has 4 usb 2 ports and 2 usb3 ports. In the system info I can see I have 2 controllers that are HIGH speed (USB2) and one controller that has nothing at all - I assume this is the USB3 controller. Should I expect thiscontroller to have details as being SUPER speed ?
So far I'm quite happy with the box but I really need the USB3 ports to be working optimally. Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I'd like to see how people rate USB3 too. I bought an Expresscard to USB3 (2 ports) for my laptop and ran few tests. The speed was not great, only around 1.2 to 2 times, not 10 times as from my readings.

I use this laptop as my home computer but do graphic design on it quite frequently for side jobs but I'm still on OS 10.6.8. My adobe Creative suite is a (not so legal) CS5 that had to be configured to work on this machine.
At work I am about to upgrade my 2010 iMac to the newest OS version and install the new Adobe Creative Cloud suite on it in June. I would like to get the full version, so I can run it on my MacBook too (you are allowed to run two computers with the software purchase) but will this even be possible with my older machine? I can't afford a new one...it doesn't even feel that old.
Also, if it IS possible, then how would I go about uninstalling my CS5? There was quite a bit of tinkering done - not by me so I don't know exactly what - to make it work.
So what should I do? Should I take in to a Mac specialist? Thanks in advance.10.7 or 10.8 and latest version of one of the browsers listed.

Ok now i cant figure this out. i installed the recent security update and now things are going screwy. i go to open up photoshop and it wont open. the dock icon bounces then goes away leaving me wondering whats going on. I uninstalled and re installed the whole Creative Suite but photoshop still wont budge. It was working just fine before the security update and now i duno what. is this to blame or is there something else?

First, be sure to BackUp your data, then run Mac Software Update (located in System Preferences) to bring the Operating System (OS) and Mac firmwares up to date. And run all the Adobe Updaters adobe.com.
Ruling out the User account and routine maintenance are the first steps in troubleshooting crash freeze stability problems, including setting up clean User Account, and using Disk Utility to Repair Disk and Repair Permissions, Safe Boot, and running fsck -y.
If the problem clears logged into a new "Spare User" account, a User's account preference is corrupted. If the problem does not clear in a new "Spare User" account, the problem is likely system wide, or hardware.
Rule out RAM gballard.net is also important troubleshooting. In addition to crashing, kernel panics, Type 1 Type 2 Type 3 errors, Unexpectedly Quiting, corrupted files and disk errors, typical symptoms of bad Ram in Photoshop include rows lines patches of bad pixels on screen that also print (the actual file is being corrupted). If the bad pixel areas are on the monitor, but do not print (the actual file is not corrupted), video card or video-card drivers are prime suspects. Remember, video cards also have flash firmwares to flash update.
Test Hardware Interface gballard.net for the hardware's ability to transfer data free of corruption on hard disk drive interfaces (such as SCSI, IDE, etc.). See the bottom of the linked page and DOWNLOAD Timothy A. Seufert's dctest. Dctest assumes that your CPU and memory and disk are working fine. There are OS9 and OSX versions in the download.
Bad Damaged Hard Drives:
If running Apple's Disk Utility's FirstAid Repair Disk and Repair Permissions, and the Mac's fsck -y Unix command cannot fix any all disk problems, I would recommend running third-party disk utilities BEWARE! gballard.net only as a last resort.
Bad Blocks apple.com on the hard drive can also cause a computer to be very unstable....
"Haxies," those free/shareware, application and user hacks that modify various System features, application programs and plug-ins, including bad fonts and font management gballard.net, are also prime SUSPECTS to troubleshoot and rule out, as are flaky video–card drivers. Check your video card manufacturer web site for video card firmware updaters, new drivers and compatibility issues.
Another thing to troubleshoot for is illegal Unix characters in the file names starting from the hard drive name down. These illegal characters may include: * ~ / + ! " é ñ ; : ) ? (see Mac and Windows OS File/Folder naming rules portfoliofaq.com for complete information). If you're using any illegal characters (or extra long names or spaces) in your naming hierarchy, try renaming them.
Photoshop CS and CS2 seems to be super sensitive to bad fonts, so be sure to rule out the fonts if you are having stability issues.
Troubleshooting Photoshop won't install, from the original Adobe Install CD, try copying the 'Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Folder' (100 to 150 MB) to the desktop - this folder contains the installer and all its files. Eject the CD, and run the installer from the desktop.
This copy-installer-folder-to-hard-drive technique works on the Adobe installers that require us to verify an original full install CD (insert the full retail install CD, when the installer asks for it point it to the CD).
For troubleshooting specific numeric Mac OS error codes, try appleerrorcodes.com.
My most decisive TroubleShooting technique — Empty = Versatile gballard.net — is to Test on an OS–Suspect Level. In less than an hour, this method effectively rules out the hardware, the install and its other third–party issues.

My two cents on the subject:
Memory: Try setting 50 percent (no higher than 75 percent) for anything less than 2 GB RAM.
Over 2.5 giga bytes of RAM: The Mac OS limits all applications to maximum of 2 giga bytes of RAM. In other words, setting Photoshop's Memory setting to 100% will provide Photoshop with up to 2 GB memory, and leave the remaining 500 MB for the Operating System and other applications.
We do need to be careful to leave a cushion of unused RAM for whatever applications we run concurrently with Photoshop.
If we get a lot of OS 10's Spinning Beachball Color Wheel while using Photoshop, we probably need to install more RAM, or assign a lesser percentage of RAM to Photoshop. Seeing the BeachBall is normal for working on very large files (over 200 mega bytes) while Photoshop's ScratchDisks gballard.net catch up.
With over 3 giga bytes of installed RAM, I would start with a 100–percent Memory setting in Photoshop.
NOTE: Adobe is recommending the Ram/Memory issues for 2.5GB-plus work stations...if 100% Memory is not working optimally, as recommended above, try reducing down to a "safer" 75%, said Adobe's Chris Cox.
Cache Levels: Adobe is recommending setting this to 4 (for now because of an OS10.3.2/PS8.0 conflict). I generally set the Cache Level to 8 on newer machines, I recall CS2 is defaulting to 6.
Trashing Preferences:
If you're trying to rule out Photoshop corruption or reset Default settings, FIRST try trashing:
HardDrive> User> Library> Preferences> Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings folder.
HardDrive> User> Library> Preferences> com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file.
There are several other Photoshop preferences there you may trash.
Relaunch Photoshop.
If the problem has not cleared, Mac OS 10, Trash the following (and reinstall Photoshop):
HardDrive> Applications> Adobe Photoshop 7/CS folder.
HardDrive> User> Library> Preferences> Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings folder.
HardDrive> User> Library> Preferences> com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file.
Reinstall Photoshop.
Run all Photoshop Updaters adobe.com.

If the problem has not cleared after purging/reinstalling/updating Photoshop, the problem is likely outside of Photoshop in third–party, bad hardware or a corrupted install. At this point we generally need to Initialize/Erase/StartFromScratch gballard.net...a good opportunity to rethink Partitioning our disks for a Photoshop workflow gballard.net and implement a BackUp strategy gballard.net.
In severe cases — to prepare a Mac for a Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) — I follow my troubleshooting MELTDOWN procedure gballard.net. In addition to repairing any Bad Blocks, this procedure will be conclusive in a couple hours, plus the time it takes to ZeroWrite Write Zeros, if the problem is hardware or installed software or damaged hard drive....

OLAP performance issue with Webi
After lots of research I haven't found good information anywhere. We are an SAP shop, run SAP ECC, BW with BWA and for the last couple of years Business Objects as well. Since we are a utility company, our reporting needs for a good majority of our audience is transactional and detail oriented as opposed to analytical. Our biggest concern is poor Webi performance running against OLAP Universes. Currently, we are running BO XI 3.1 SP3, Integration Kit 3.1 and BW 7.01 SP7 and still experience very poor perfomance. Our user community is very frustrated with the timeouts and very slow running queries. They benchmark against popular websites and the performance they see there. We cannot restrict data sets any more than we already have, given the detailed/granular nature of data that the users need. What recommendations do you have for us? We seem to have hit a brick wall and don't want to lose our user base. Please advise.

The website benchmarking was more from an end-user perspective and more generic. They are used to getting information very very quickly in the internet driven world and when reports don't perform well they get frustrated.
I understand that there are multiple factors in play here. However, the need to get granular/transactional data is a very real business need and the use of the Webi tool to get the information out from an OLAP universe is a challenge. We are trying to give end-users more power and advocate self-service BI and so haven't popularized the use of Crystal as much. Also, we haven't implemented Advanced Analysis yet. Our belief is that we are using the right tool for the job and have structured our platform to work optimally but given the needs of the users the performance is still very slow and hence the frustration and the question.

Arch64 ati radeon 3870 radeonhd driver. Problem with xorg.conf.
I've got a small problem with my xorg. I won't hide that i'm not a xorg nerd and i've used the automatic xorg tool to generate the xorg.conf. After starting X, the screen goes black and then after ~5 seconds montior switches to power-saving mode.
So here we go.

Can no longer run processor at 133 fsb
Did I just break my processor or mother board while changing cpu cooling fans? About a year ago, I received my computer with a K7T266PRO2 mother board and an Athlon 1900+ XP processor. It was running at 100 fsb and the processor put out 1200 megahertz. I wanted the full 1.6 gigahertz out of my processor so I changed the clock speed setting in the CMOS from 100 to 133 and enjoyed the next year at that clock speed. My fan on my cpu fail so I bought a new one from CompUSA for my processor type, and installed it. Did I push and shove too large installing the fan? What gives. The CMOS screamed at me when I booted up that I had incorrect values in the CMOS. I hit f2 and found myself running at 100 fsb as that is what the default CMOS settings provide. I changed the clock speed to 133 like before but when I rebooted the computer froze. I could do nothing with my computer until I cleared the CMOS and reestablished the default 100 fsb setting. I used this setting for the next three weeks. I called AMD, the processor manufacturer and they had me check the processor dye for cracks and dents. As soon as they had me raise the vcore voltage in the CMOS from 1.725 to 1.75 and set the clock speed at 133, the computer rebooted at the full clock speed of the chip! Yahoo. But I went into Windows XP and soon XP crashed and exited me out to a screen which said that the computer was shut down to prevent my computer from being hurt. Please remove any hardware you just installed. So I went into the CMOS and reset back to 100 fsb. I called AMD again and told them that I had just discovered that I have been running for the past three weeks with the processor fan on backwards which is what I suddenly discovered while taking the processor apart. There is a shoulder on the socket which has to mate up with an indentation in the fan heatsink in order for the heat sink to be flush with the chip. I installed the fan correctly, but to no avail. Now when I went into windows at 1200 megahertz, the computer froze up after it sits idle for 30 minutes. I inserted my Windows XP install CD Rom and went to setup repair to fix windows incase there was a corruption. As a began the setup the computer froze. So what have I done? My computer worked optimally until moments after I replaced the cpu cooling fan. AMD is sending me another cpu. Do you guys think that is the problem? What could have happened in the five minutes it took to switch fans (although without knowing it, I put it in 180 degrees backward.)
Any help?
StephenIt has happened to me to, so I can with some ackredability suggest you move the CMOS/NVRAM(?) jumper. Power has to be off, while doing this, and I'd suggest you detatch all cables.

I recently checked my internet connection on my Asus G53SW and found that it was extremely slow on both the LAN and WLAN connections. I checked with a different laptop (old HP Pavilion) and I get a steady 74mbps+ connection using the same LAN cable and
also with the WLAN connection. My ISP has checked their side and everything is fine.
To try and resolve the issue I tried uninstalling, disabling and tweaking various software and even tried safe mode with networking, all to no avail. I then decided to do a complete fresh install this afternoon. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
successfully onto my SSD and everything went smoothly. I have now only installed Nvidia video drivers and the (only) WLAN driver from the Asus support site.
My WLAN connection remains incredibly slow (amost half what it is on the HP and my MacBook Pro). Clearly this is an issue with either the Asus laptop or Windows but I don't know how to proceed in order to eliminate which it could be other than to try a different
o/s to W7-Ult.
Can anyone help who knows more about this than me? Perhaps someone who has had a similar or the same problem because this is giving me a severe headache!

As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
my Asus machine.

I just updated to 9.3.1 (running on Mac OSX 10.4.11). Acrobat & Reader were working optimally before update (v.9) and now both are unbearably slow. Any command just lags for a long time, windows "stick" and are hard to move. Is there a preference I can turn off, or an easy way to go back to the version I was using before I agreed to use the Adobe Updater?
