Is Compact Edition still the best small database choice?

I need a compact database to use with my Windows Form application.  What is the best version of SQL Server to use?  I see Compact Edition 4.0, however it looks like a couple of years old now.
TIA,
Miles

  • FlexReport - is it still the best option?

Is FlexReport still a viable option for preview/printing with Flex 3.  Also if anyone has any experience with it or alivePDF - Is there anyway to keep the datagrid dataprovider column order?  In my test they always seem to sort by alpha headers, I have not been able to locate the code that performs this function.  Thanks for all advice.

What is best depends in part on your particular needs. Due to loss of significant features in recent versions of Pages and Numbers in iWork and for other reasons, I switched. The following is very capable and very compatible and free: http://www.libreoffice.org

  • Needs suggestion the best way database insertion using OSB

Hi all, again and again I need your suggestion. Which is the best way for writing data to database using OSB in few tables as fastest as possible (speed consideration)?, should I make lots DB schema for supporting JCA adapter and transform each message and writing to database? OR should I call java callout then using EJB for writing to database?.

    Hi,
We had the similar scenario in our project and this is my take on this.
Its better to use a JCA DBAdapter to execute/invoke a stored procedure and then have the PL/SQL script for insertion into the Stored Procedure.
As the OSB DBAdapter configuration is very tightly coupled to the DB structure any changes to the column types of the table will mean a regeneration of the adapter WSDL.
In general even for other DB operations like select, delete, update... its is a good idea to use the stored procedure in conjunction with the DBAdapter to decouple the link to DB to some extent.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

  • What is the best local database?

Enterprise Java application use Oracle 8i as the main database. It is needed to store some data (not more than 10M and 50 tables) on the local computer to work offline.
What is the best easy and unified (as a bean with Infobus support)database for this purposes?
Borland Jbuilder has it's own database. Oracle offer Lite, but it is not a lightweight Java application.
MS Access is a good solution, but it is not good idea to use ODBC to connect to it.

  • 5 Major Problems, yet still the best computer I've ever used.

I was an early adopter of the Macbook. I got it the first day it came out and started using it immediately for school @ The University of Texas at Austin. I've gone through about 300 charge cycles and I think the computer is approx.. 13 months old. I really hope that this computer will last for the rest of my undergraduate career, but we'll see what happens. From the start, it had the faint "moo-ing" noise which I lived with until after 3 months of owning my computer when it started shutting down randomly. I sent it in to applecare for about 2 weeks and got it back good as new. Then, there was some discoloration on the palm-rests, and I got that fixed as well. Then after 9 months my hard-drive crashed and I lost everything that I had because I didn't back anything up, idiotically. After 11 months, the screen started flickering and the display inverter had to be fixed as well. All in all, I paid $0 for all of these repairs. Some people might say that I paid in sweat and tears over the time I was away from my data, and the time that I lost all of it. However, I don't think that I could have made a better investment in my education, it has truly been a great experience switching to Mac...sans a couple of minor details.
    -Ryan
P.S. - I don't know why I wrote this post, I just know that a lot of students like myself are purchasing new computers for school. I hope I didn't scare anybody off, and I'm sure that most of these "problems" have been fixed in the later generations. I just wanted to tell my story and hopefully give some people trust that apple takes care of its customers, and that Mac really is the best computer in the world.
You can leave your own stories if you would like, I think that would be a cool running thread.

    Distro_1,
Windows PC. I can laugh about it now, but, my pc ended up infested with a virus that no virus software was able to locate until it was much much too late...in the process, it destroyed all of the info on my secondary hard drive as well....200gb of lost photos, music, movies etc. I have yet to bring that hard drive to a technician because I am scared to hear that it could all possibly be lost forever. Music and movies I can replace, photos, I cannot. Thankfully, I had backed many of them up or sent copies to friends and family. Also, I uploaded many pics to photo sites. There were however, dozens that were not I've been really busy over the past few months and was unable to do so. BTW, the PC is just over 2 months old. Anyway, the moral of the story is that I am hoping that these problems will not be nearly as big an issue with Mac. I want to be able to leave my computer for an hour or two unattended without worrying about losing everything. I hope that's not too much to ask.

  • What is the best RDMS database????

    hi guys,
Do u guys have any opinions on this topic? Which database you think is the most popular, the most robust, the most stable and the most reliable? MYSQL, MSSSQL, ORACLE, etc....
What are the pros and cons for each database? What are the benefits of using one database over another? In my project, I need to make my application to support different kind of databases. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks!

I feel it all depends on the kind of application u are building.
    in my opinion...
MS SQL Server is good for a small- medium scale application/data and for MS WIN based applications
Oracle on the other hand is best for a medium to large scale application/data.
I didnt have a chance to work with MYSQL

  • Even with the reception issue: iPhone 4 is still the BEST smart phone

Don't you Agree? I mean, c'mon, no phone this thin right now in the market can actually compare, yes?
Doesn't it feel as though our phones are a step ahead in technology ALL THE TIME? (except for the reception part).
    It's still a badd handheld.
    Peace
    <Edited by Host>

The Droid Phones look massive. The Blackberry phones just plain suck. Once they fix the reception problem with iPhone, I believe iPhone 4 owners will have a different, far advanced world, than the rest who don't have an iPhone 4.
I am very vocal about my disdain on the problems; but I am moreso against AT&T's network than anything else.
I did the network reset, the 3G connection on and off thing, and finally the sim refresh and it appears to be capturing 1400kps download consistently now. Try that.
But yes, wow, what a phone this is. I believe deep within us, amidst these glitches, we walk around proud to have this new iPhone. I truly believe that.
PS: Imagine how cool it is that we are the only phones that actually EASILY move EVERYTHING from one old iPhone to a new version through our personal laptops. We have a standard platform that is cool (iTunes). We have cousin products. We are in a different world, I believe

  • Old user: Is DW still the best for me?

I have no formal design training and therefore have been
mostly a WYSIWYG designer. I started with 3 I think. I'm now using
DW 4 & FW4. I would rather improve my designing (just working
for our family business websites) than lag behind. I have no
interest in Flash or other multimedia intense designs but would
like a WYSIWYG interface that would enable slightly more advanced
sites without me having to start a new career :-)
Would I be well served by moving to version 8? I was tempted
by MX a couple years ago but the mixed reviews kept me away.
    Thanks for the help.

  • XNA still the best way to do 3D graphics in C#?

Or is there a better way?

    Hi
    therand,
Not sue if it is a better way but the simplest is probably to use WPF 3D.
This is a retained mode graphics system, so if you don't have huge needs like special shaders for effects,
it's very easy to setup and use directly.
For more details,  please take a look at in MSDN

  • What is the best remote database for connet IOS App and how to do that ..

    Hello ...
I'm new to Mac as well as ios developments.. Kindly anyone tell me, Is it possible to connect IOS app to remote database. If yes .. may I know what kind of databases available for this. And what kind of steps we have to follow when we code IOS app for connect remote database.
Your response would be highly appreceated.
    Thank you.
    Iranga

Ideally, you need a REST server to connect to your remote database. There are many frameworks like Jackson and Jersey that are reasonable alternatives but it does require too much effort. One of my friends work at a startup that just came up with a way to get RESTful API to any of the SQL databases. You may want to try it out and see if it works for you at EspressoLogic.

  • K8N Neo2 Plat - Is 1.8 still the best bios?

Just bought new gfx card - Sapphire X1600Pro 256MB AGP - for my K8N Neo2 Plat setup (see sig for the rest).
I was getting 3dmark03 scores of 4400 to start with, then it has upped slowly to just over 6000 thanks to the various BIOS experts setup guides. I haven't found the Shgift F2 menu - is that only in later BIOSes ?
I'm only at BIOS 1.3 due to it's amazing stability with this setup, but now of course, I'm wondering if upping to, say, 1.8, might help improve things further ??
    TIA

    Hello !
The 1.8 bios is very good unless you are planning to run/update to an X2 dual core , then you will need a newer one for sure.
There is nothing faster and better with 1C , EasyBios 1C and my modded have better default values set in it ,EasyBios
have also better reworked layout (more user friendly) , but if you don't have any problems with your current one I would stick with it .
It's almost the same with my Neo1 system (Ms-7030) , I have this frozen at the 1.5b6 bios - with the Newcastle cpu in it
it actually works worse with the latest BIOS

    hello,
with pentium 4's hyper threading out, is athlon still the best solution?  i mean, pentium 4's prices are already dropping...they're already catching up with athlon.  and athlon is not catching up with the speed.

This doesn't mean that the processor is operating at higher clock speed than rated, but rather that AMD is having to push their process to get good bin splits for the higher clocked models.
In the same way that an overclocker will sometimes have to nudge voltage upwards to get stability at overclocked speeds, the Thoroughbred requires a 10% boost from 1.5v to 1.65 volts to increase speed by 400mhz. This isn't an overclock as such because this is within the process specification, but in a sense AMD is having to eat it's future to stay semi-competitive with Intel in terms of clock speeds. The datasheet specifies a max voltage of Vcore +.5v (i.e. 30%), so there is still plenty of overclocking 'headroom'.
I'm not sure what the corresponding voltages are for the PIV, but I know it is less clock-for-clock when comparing chips fabbed at 90nm, which implies a process advantage for Intel (but wait for SOI!).
    Cheers,
    Alex
Well, Intel's done the same thing on numerous occasions--upped the voltages for MHz speed bumps when people expected them to stay the same or in some cases reduce.  Most egregiously it was done with the PIII, but several production runs of the P4 are included. Most notorious of the lot is Intel's HYPEr-Threading scenario (lets pretend we have two cpu cores so we can get the one we actually have to operate more efficiently) which, in the HT-enabled 3.06GHz version (which is no great skates in yields yet), can displace up to 105W. So AMD is nowhere near being unique in this category.
In fact, with each succeeding generation of Athlon AMD has refined its processes far better than anyone looking from the Intel side of the fence imagined was possible, and so a lot of Athlon's "heat" reputation is more of a hangover from the earlier days than it is accurate in comparsion with current Intel processes--in which the 3.06Ghz HT cpu is stretched as far as Intel can make it go under their current .13 micron processes. (EG, that's the reason Intel waited for 3GHz before implementing working HYPEr-Threading circuitry--they knew about the increased power and thermal requirements and weren't prepared to put those anywhere else in their chip offerings for yield considerations.)
Yes, AMD has stretched the longevity of its current design through process improvement--but Intel has certainly done no less.  I consider that in both cases this has zero correlation to "overclocking" since all such chips made by Intel and AMD are validated rigorously at their released MHz speeds. Overclocking by definition is operating a chip at over it's validated MHz speed--something that AMD, again, has never done.
As far as "eating up their future" is concerened, I think it's about a zero concern at this point, since AMD is on the eve of transisitioning to a new architecuture.  As such it really matters little what they do with AXP/Barton in that regard, since in a couple of months those designs will move to an economic position displacing Duron, and the Hammer designs will take the place of the current AXPs in the AMD chip lineup.  And of course we reset all counters to zero in terms of MHz and processes when that happens, at least in the mid-to-upper markets where Hammer will thrive.  In displacing Duron, AMD's current  AXP/Barton line will have no trouble moving Celeron completely out of its current market position (which is why Intel is designing Banias [sp?] with such gusto at the moment--a chip design which, ironically, places more emphasis on IPC than raw MHz ramping.  I love these kinds of ironies... Who *says* Intel can't learn a trick or two from AMD?  *chuckle*)
