Is cropping possible with Compressor-2?
I'm a newbie and have a newbie question.
I have a movie clip (.mov) that I need to compress for the web. My clip shows a guy running on a treadmill in a gym.
The clip is currently 720x480 and I need to crop out everything except for the guy's tennis shoes and end up will a finished size of 200x100.
Is it possible to crop video with Compressor, the same way you crop images with Photoshop? Can I specify the exact size I want (200x100)? If so, how is this done?

There are two ways you can do it:
From the preview window, resize the red cropping border; hold down shift to constrain the aspect ratio of the crop.
From the settings inspector, click the Geometry tab, and voila!

Is cropping possible with FCE 3.5?
A bit of the arm that attaches lights to housing is showing along the edge of some otherwise pretty underwater footage. (It was not apparent on the camcorder display or the u/w monitor.) Only about 2% of the width of the frame as displayed on the Mac screen.
Is there a way to zoom in on the clips (or use some other technique) to eliminate the unwanted item at the margin? Can it be done before they go into a sequence, so they won't need lots of rendering to match the other clips?

Quality Issues with Compressor 2.0.1
Has anyone had any contact with Apple engineers about the problems folks are having with macro-blocking artifacts with Compressor since 2.x appeared?
Is Apple aware of this serious step-back in reliability and quality?
We too are experiencing this and it is very troublesome. Really takes the fun out of doing this type of work.
I would like hear from those who have never had the problem or who had the problem and resolved without reverting to older versions.
I think the one common factor among those experiencing the problem is that we are all working in DV25 (NTSC or PAL).

The problem is somewhat random and can be hard to reproduce or detect. However, since it usually (always?) occurs in sequences that contain at least some difficult to compress material it's possible that very clean video sources will suffer less from this defect (since they won't be "wasting" bits to encode noise or image shortcomings that were already present in the original source).
Some users have complained about poor fades to black, but probably the worst example I've seen was a slow cross-fade between two clips that both contained a fair amount of motion. In the latter case, Compressor 1.2.1 handled the transition much better even when using the same bit rate and quality settings. However, when Compressor 2 fails the image degenerates into some fairly large, very low detail compression blocks for maybe one or two frames. Then it recovers, everything will look fine until you see another random occurrence of the problem. You may only see two bad frames out of several hundred, but when you see it you know immediately that something is wrong.
I doubt that this is a configuration problem or something that is hardware specific since I've been able to duplicate the exact same failure on two systems that had absolutely nothing in common as far as installation or software setup. The only commonality was the source video clip (which looks fine) and Compressor 2. However, this same clip looks fine when encoded with Compressor 1.2.1.
Note, also, that I'm using only Compressor 2 presets on Compressor 2, this is not the problem caused by using "old" presets imported from Compressor 1.X.
Anyway, I've already sent Apple a bug report, so there is little that I can do at this point other than to hope for a fix from Apple. That and restricting myself to one-pass encodings (as discussed in my earlier post). -
Are the problems with Compressor's encoding fixed yet?
Sorry for the slightly vague title but I only use compressor once a year basically, which is after the production of a Christmas show I produce. Last year I upgraded ot Final Cut Studio to do the DVD and got caught out. I encoded using what I thought was the best setting (2 pass variable bit rate) and got jittery encoding. After investigating on this very forum, I found lots of comments about known problems with Compressor's encoding in this setting and ended up re encoding using one pass which was "ok".
I'd rather do the best job I can so the basic question is, "is it fixed yet". Keeping in mind I understand about altering settings so that I can get the time I need onto one disc (110 minutes unfortunately!) What setting will offer me the best possible picture quality, regardless of encoding time, with compressor? Many, many thaks for any advice you regular user can offer!!

Right now I have the "Share this computer as" QuickCluster with services checked. I've also tried with the "Services and Cluster controller" button checked but nothing seems to happen. When I drag a file into the Compressor window, select my settings and click on "Submit" nothing happens. I opened the Activity Monitor on both machines to see if there was any action, but nothing.
You mention "Once all of the nodes are sharing they should show up in the Qmaster Admin window" but where is that window? Is it the "Services" window where the Share buttons for Compressor and Rendering are checked?

Look for a used tower, then figure to upgrade it's graphics card if you intend to do this for a business and it's an only machine.
An iMac OK for home use, but won't be fun running Motion and Color... They crave big fast graphics cards. Some filters in FCP also rely on GPU power.
I'd think any intel tower used would be a better buy if you really want to upgrade and keep up with the future of desktop video. faster drives become doable to boot. a LOT faster drives.

I've shot some footage with 2 different cameras and didn't realise that one was 25i and one was 25p. When I put them both in finalcut pro x it needs to render everytime I do an edit. I'm trying to deinterlace with compressor but just wanted to check the best settings to use. The original footage is from a Sony camcorder (HDR-CX6) 1440 x 1080, h.264, 10,235 bit rate, and 25i. In compressor I made this setting:

Is that ok or is there a better way? The encoding seems to be getting longer and longer (already at 3+ hours) When I had it on apple codec the file was going to swell to about 84gig and take over 80 hours!

It's a free app and many people swear by it. I've even read where some folks have converted to ProRes and deinterlaced with Jes and had great results.
You really should convert to ProRes before deinterlacing. I know the file size is shocking at first but you really want a good stable codec if you want a smooth editing experience. Especially considering that you're working with mixed media. Make them all the same codec and you'll have a much better experience.
Another cool free app is MpegStreamclip, which does a fantastic job at file conversions.
I use compressor sometimes but find it sort of convoluted for simple tasks.

thanks a lot .I would take a step back here before going further. William's suggestion might very well clean up the library but something obviously did not go right and to start mucking about in the library might make things worst.
For starters I'm surprised to see the folder structure you showed in your first post. Aperture stores managed masters (originals) by import date and time. The structure (in all libraries I've ever seen) looks like:
So something seems wrong with your master folder.
Also the three folders you showed the first and third are identical ( the middle one has the (1) added to which is how the OS handles duplicates in a folder) so this shouldn't even be possible, those folders should not be there.
I'm wondering if this is something left over from your using Duplicate Annihlator. Do you have a copy of the library before you ran the merge and used DA on it? Would be interested to see what the master folder looks like.
Finally when you ran the merge which library did you tell Aperture to use as the master, the one that was used to resolve conflicts?
Again William's suggestion might be all you need to do but it would be good to figure out want went wrong before proceeding.

You may have some problems because Apple has not certified that everything works with Windows 8 yet. -
How do I create an MPG2 with Compressor that is neither 16:9 or 4:3?
I have a quicktime movie, exported from FCP which is 1280X800. I need to create an MPG2 also at 1280X800.
How do I do this?
Compressor only seems to create a 16:9 or 4:3 MPG2 regardless of the original source file.

Multiple usage of Source System is not possible with installed DMIS version on source

I`ve got a problem trying to adjust the Data Replication to SAP BW (on HANA) using SAP LT Replication Server.
I`ve deleted one connection and after that I`m trying to create new one through Configuration & Monitoring Dashboard (transaction LTR) with the same source / target systems.
As result when on the second step (Specify Source System) I specify RFC destination of the source system it appears an error with text
"Multiple usage of Source System is not possible with installed DMIS version on source".
But there`s no any adjusted connection in system now..
Please, help me to understand how to fix that problem, I can`t find a solutionHi,
When you say that you 'deleted one connection', did you delete the RFC connection or the SLT Configuration? If it is not a real multiple usage scenario, then deactivate the 'allow multiple usage' flag, else install the correct DMIS version on both SLT and source.

Please help me here. I tried to post a vendor invoice but i got an error message "Posting is only possible with a zero balance; correct document".
The debit and credit balance is correct. In document entry i checked calculate tax and the GL master was assigned a tax code. How can i correct the document and be able to post the invoice?

I had also faced same issue and got it resolved.
For resolving it, I made necessary changes in Editing Options in transaction FB01.
These Editing options are user specific settings and these can be found in transaction FB01 -
Go to Settings --> Editing Options (F9).
Alternatively, you can click Editing Option Button on FB01 Screen (Call Up Editing options for Accounting).
Please check if it resolves your issue.
