Is crystal reports correct for me / my needs?
i'm wondering if crystal reports is correct for my needs. i don't mind investing the time / money to figure this out, but i really can't waste any time so i thought i'd ask the question first
is crystal reports correct for my needs?
some detail of my needs:
1. the report would be similar to an IKEA catalog: lots of pictures, different layouts (so different reports merged into one). reports need to "look bitchin'". needs to be "printer ready" in regards to size, crop lines, page numbers, etc. my main concern here is basically "how limiting is crystal reports in data placement on the page"?
2. the data would come from a relatively large db (MS SQL, Oracle, mySQL, and maybe others). size: about 40 million record main table, with supporting tables (i.e., relational). the db is not encrypted and is accessible if you have the main password.
3. i would like to send the reports to something like PDF, but also to excel and text file.
4. i would like to offer the reports to my clients as part of my own software package, so hopefully this consists of an .exe file only (no updates required, etc).
i would prefer to talk to a live person about this, or ideally see a quick demo of what is possible with crystal reports. is this possible?
Hello,
Pictures can be a problem, they take up a lot of report space. I assume your pictures are in the database? Large reports get very large quickly with pictures ( ole object ).
What you could do is download the trial version of CR 2008 and the sample reports:
Go to this link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc and download the trial version of CR XI R2 and use your XI keycode, then apply the patches which you can get to by clicking on the BusinessObjects tab above, then Downloads.
Direct link to the Trial version: http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx
I also suggest you call Sales, they can send you links for demo's etc.

Samir GandhiHi Neetu,
Do you wish that at all customer site all concern involved in implemtation do the same work ?
I believe ERP is meant for single entry system, and it should be true for implementation also, why to invest man hours for the same task ?
I expect it standard reports should be released by SAP, so that speed of implementation improve, we have more nos. of satisfied customers.
customised reports is all together different and it is understood that it is needed to be developed after study the exact requirement.

Switch from OINV to ODRF in Crystal Report layout for print the Invoice?
Hi,
I have imported in Sap Business One some standard report developed by Sap with Crystal Report (like Sales Invoice).
I have try to print my Invoices and all is OK, then I have try to print a Draft Invoice and, even in this case, is all ok. Then I have open the Crystal Report designer for this print module, and the entry point is the OINV table. How can he print succesful the Draft Invoice (that is in the ODRF table ObjType = 13)? Formula Field? I don't understand!!
Thank for the help!!
MarcoHi Marco,
You only need a single Crystal report for this. Base it on a stored procedure which has two INT type parameters @DocKey and @ObjectId. Within your SQL create IF blocks to handle different @ObjectId values:
IF @ObjectId = 13 then use the invoices tables OINV/INV1 etc.
IF @ObjectId = 112 then use the draft tables ODRF/DRF1 etc.
Don't forget to put the @ symbol at the end of the parameter in the report itself. That is all that is needed to create a single report that works for both added invoices and draft invoices. You could extend the SQL to handle other @ObjectId values like 14 for AR Credit Notes and so on.

An error in Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008
Greetings from Peru,
We have a problem with one of the Crystal Reports products weu2019d like you to help us with. We work with Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008.
The error weu2019ve detected is in one of our systemu2019s reports; this report shows data inside frames. When the content to show is larger (in height) than the space left in the page, the container object of the report makes a line break keeping the title and the frame empty at the end of that page, but the information is shown in the next page. What we need is that not empty frame is displayed.
Weu2019ve tried to solve this problem by adjusting the report in different ways (by programming coding), but unfortunately this problem is related to how much data is displayed, because if this data fit in the space left in the page, the line break would not occurs and the data is shown at the end of the same page.
We hope you can help us with this issue. I look forward to your comments. All I can think of is trying CR 2008 (v.12.x). You can obtain an eval copy from here:

How to do crystal reports in bi-7 i need clear steps
how to do crystal reports in bi-7 i need clear steps
Hi,
Please read the following documents.
I am sure that this is going to help you in creating crystal reports.
Regards,
Subha
Pls grant me points if it is found useful
Use
The Reporting Agent allows you to precalculate BEx queries (as useful queries) for Crystal reports in the background. This is a device used to improve system performance when executing Crystal reports.
Prerequisites
· In the BEx Query Designer, you have defined a useful query for Crystal Reports and determined variables for the required characteristics.
· You may want to apply a filter when precalculating this useful query using a control query (see Parameter Filtering in the section below). In this case, you need to have created an additional suitable query in the BEx Query Designer.
The associate variable must have the type Changeable with Query Navigation. Other variables can have any type.
Procedure
1. Choose the REPORTING_AGENT transaction code.
2. Select Precalculating Crystal Reports Queries and choose Execute.
3. Navigate to the required query in the left-hand Reporting Agent Settings tree.
4. You have the following options for creating a new setting:
- Choose New Setting from the context menu.
- Choose Create New Setting.
The New Reporting Agent Setting dialog box appears.
5. Enter a technical name and a description.
The following information is displayed on the General tab page:
- The functional area of the setting is Precalculation of Crystal Reports Queries.
- Information about the query for which you are creating a setting is shown under the Query group header (description, technical name, InfoProvider).
- After the setting has been saved for the first time, the system displays details of the last person who changed the setting and the time this change was made, under the Last Changed On/By group header.
- Under the Setting is Used in Packages group header, the system displays information about the packages in which the setting is used, and how they are scheduled. This information can only be displayed if you have defined the setting and assigned one or more scheduling packages to it.
6. Choose the Parameters tab page.
7. Determine whether precalculation of the Crystal Reports queries are to be parameterized using a filter and using variants.
For more information and recommendations for choosing parameters in a straightforward example, see Parameterizing Crystal Reports Queries Setting.
Filtering Parameters
No Filters
When you do not want to use a control query to precalculate variables, choose No Filter.
You can combine this option with parameterization using Variables (see below).
Explicitly Using Query Result
If you want to use a control query when filtering, choose Explicitly Using Query Result. You can now make entries in the Control Query and Variants fields.
Specify the technical name of the control query. Input help is available. After you save your entries, the system updates the information according to your selections.
You only need to specify a variant when the control query contains input-ready mandatory variables. This does not happen very often, however.
You can combine this option with parameterization using Variables (see below).
Parameter Variants
After making your setting for filtering a parameter, you can process variant for the individual characteristic values of the variables set in the useful query.
Note: The variable screen only offers such variables when they have not already been filled by the control query. (This can also include variables of type Changeable with Query Navigation, as long as they arent filled by the query).
You can choose from the following functions:
Create a Variant
A dialog box appears in which you can choose values for the SAP variables used in the useful query, in the Query Selection area. Input help is available for those InfoObjects for which SAP variables have been created.
Enter the required data.
Choose .
Change Variants
Delete Variants
If you have already created one or more variants, the system lists these in the lower part of the screen. Choose the variants you want to change or delete and choose the appropriate function. -
Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio 2010 Problem
Dear all,
I encounter a problem after installed the crystal report version for Visual Studio 2010. Once I call
ReportDocument.PrintToPrinter(1,False, 0, 0)
The error message prompt:
Report is unavailable(Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name:index)
If I try
ReportDocument.PrintToPrinter(1,False, 1, 1)
It can print the 1st page of the report.
I also try to create a simple report. It works.
After installed this version, my reports also encounter the same problem in Visual Studio 2008.
My report has sub-reports. My PC is Windows XP.
Anybody has idea on this issue!?Now you can set the various printer options using the PrintOutputController. I'm using a UI box to select the printer but your developer should be able to figure this out. If not you can include him in the e-mail, it would be fine to go direct. Of course you will stay in the thread:
private void btnSetPrinter_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument pDoc = new System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument();
CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.PrintReportOptions rasPROpts = new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.PrintReportOptionsClass();

Keycode missing in Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008
I just upgraded from Visual Studio 2005 Professional to Visual Studio 2008 Professional (with SP1 installed also). Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008 is listed as installed under the VS Help dialog, but no key code is shown. And when I attempt to open a Crystal Report, I get a dialog saying 'Please wait while Windows configures Crystal Reports Basic', which eventually terminates with an 'Invalid Keycode' message.
I've tried repairing the Visual Studio install, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the whole thing. To no avail.
Other facts: My VS 2005 version still works with its version of Crystal Reports. I am running Vista Professional. Looking in the registry, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Crystal Decisions | Crystal Reports | VSNET | Keycodes | CR9 NET, I see a Type REG_SZ with a data value in the form xxxxxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [6 chars-7 chars-26 chars].
Help! How do I get Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008 to work?Hi Elaine,
Thanks for your response. I do have versions of Visual Studio 2003 and Visual Studio 2005 on my machine, and the earlier versions of Crystal Reports worked with these versions. In addition to the registry key I cited earlier (which I now understand is a VS 2003 version), there is an entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Crystal Decisions | Crystal Reports | 10.2 | Crystal Reports | KeyCodes | CR Ent. I see that you are correct, and this corresponds to my VS 2005 installation (which still works). However, there is NO entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Crystal Decisions | Crystal Reports | 10.5 (the CR Basic for Visual Studio 2008 path you indicated). There is an entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Business Objects | 10.5 | Crystal Reports, but it has only keys for ChartSupportPath, CommonFiles, DisablecheckForUpdates, and Path.
The Windows\assembly folder has 25 files that are CrystalDecisions.xxx, version 10.5.3700.0. This is consistent with my seeing 'Crystal Reports' listed as installed in VS 2008 Help. But no KeyCode!
I tried a complete uninstall and reinstall of VS 2008, without luck. I can't clean my system of earlier verions of Crystal Reports, because I am still supporting a body of work that I did under VS 2005, and I can't convert all this stuff to 2008 -- at least until I have a fully working VS 2008 suite. After this experience, I fear that if I were to uninstall an earlier version, i might never get it back!
I've spend quite a few hours on this with no luck, so any help would be enormously appreciated. -

I have the same problem with ClearQuest 7.0.1.1, except the error contains 'version 11.0' instead of 10.0.This happened when I installed Crystal Reports XI Pro designer. I followed the procedure to manually uninstall and re-install CR, which allowed me to to author report formats, but I still get this error when trying to view report in the ClearQuest for Windows client. I tried to re-register all the CR viewer DLLs I could find, but still no luck.Any suggestions? Thanks,Nate -
How generate a crystal reports layout for Batch Report
Dear Experts,
I want to create a crystal reports layout for Batch Report that appears when printing Delivery Note.
I've tried using DocKey@ token but it only works in the delivery note layout itself. The following code at the select expert for this crystal layout doesn't work:
{ODLN.DocEntry} = {?DocKey@}
Kindly guide me in the above issue. Thanks.I am using version 8.8 SP.00 PL.10
It is very strange that I cannot get the layout connected to the database as I have followed the same steps for all layouts. It all works fine until I get to the invoice stage and then I cannot make the connection.
(I dont need to worry about the sales invoice as this was provided at installation point by our vendor) -

Installing crystal reports 9 for the first time
Hi,
I am trying to install Crystal Reports 9 for the first time. We just received a package with 4 envelopes including Crystal Reports 9 Advanced, Standard, Professional, and Developer. Each envelope also includes Crystal Enterprise Report Appliation Server which I don't think I need (or I'm not sure). I have read a little bit on how I can go online to the SAP Service Marketplace and request license keys. I have not requested a permanent license key yet. I believe that I can install Crystal with a temporary key and then input the permanent key later. What I have done is insert the installation CD for Crystal Reports 9 Developer and then input the product key code found on the back of the Crystal Enterprise Report Application Server CD cover that was packaged with the Crystal Reports 9 Developer CD. However I get a message saying that the product key code is not valid or has expired. There is no product key code on the cover for the Crystal Reports 9 Developer CD but there is one on the Crystal Enterprise Report Application Server CD cover so that is why I input it.
Why is this key code expired? Please note that I am installing on a test PC before I install on the PC of the user who will be using Crystal for work purposes. Therefore I wanted to just install with a temporary key if there is such a thing at this time.
thanks
JWHi Josh,
I would like to add few things with above suggestion
For a new key code :
Request key codes for new orders via SAP Marketplace (SMP), will receive a download letter on new purchases providing them with their SMP login credentials. Using these credentials you can login and click in the "Keys & Requests" tab > Request a License key .
If your existing Key code does not work :
You need create a customer message [https://websmp107.sap-ag.de/message] using component XX-SER-LIKEY-BOJ .
Hope this helps,

Dynamic command execution fails in Crystal report viewer for parameters
We are using the Crystal Report Viewer for the .Net Application on the client side. The reports are designed using Crystal Report XI R2.
The issues that we are currently encountering is that, we are unable to load the combo-boxes in the pop-up for the parameters.
All the reports have multiple commands and the variables are of 'dynamic' type.
When the dialog box for requesting the pop-up comes up, It comes up empty even though they are linked to the respective commands.
Also,For reports having multiple parameters we are unable to give a single dialog box to get in all the parameters. It appears as a series of prompts.
Both, these issues are not encountered when the reports are launched via the Crystal reports developer tool.Hello Varun,
I recommend to post this questionin the [dedicated NET forum|SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio;.
This forum is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there.
Thank you for your understanding,
