Is CS6 Photoshop a 64 bit or 32 bit Application?

The further I get into enjoying this new version the more confussed I get. I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit with 16 gig of RAM. CS6 has installed itself as a 32 bit program. It uses some of my old and very useful 32 bit plugins but seems to be able to use memory like a 64 bit application. Can someone explain this to me please? My real concern is that a few of my 64 bit Plugins won't install a 32 bit version in CS6. Some of them won't even recognise CS6 as a destination for plugins. I'll address this with the Plugin maker but I'd really like to know if CS6 is going to be a 32 bit only version.
Doug

The only outstanding issue is that Photoshop CS6 - after following your suggestion to download a freash copy, still will not install the 64 bit version. I've sent the log files to a person at Adobe who asked for them and attempted a fourth install after removing all the malware and anti virus protection on the PC and still it fails the installation.
I guess eventually I'll discover what the problem is. I'm fairly sure its something to do with Windows 7 64bit because another application (Jalbum) failed to allow access to their servers (using their program) several months ago. Photoshop and Jalbum are the only applications to fail installation. Lightroom 4, 64 bit, inDesign and many other applications all install and run with no drama. There is nothing more I can do or provide you. I've sent the logs, the machine statistics and an accurate description of what occurs. If the final fails to install too, maybe we'll look at other software for our needs. Changing PC or even upgrading them so soon after replacing them is not going to happen. Until someone can provide some answers, CS6 Beta will remain unusable to us.

  • New install of cs6 32 and 64 bit on a windows 8.1 64 bit pc file association issue

If I have the 32 bit cs6 open, and click on a psd file it auto opens in the 32 bit software which is nice. However if I have no instance of CS6 open and click a psd to open, it will allways open the cs6 64bit software, which is annoying and I would like to pull the 32 bit always.
I also tried to file associate the psd to the 32bit cs6 exe file, but when clicked it still opens the 64 bit cs6....frustrating
    any ideal?

I think if you use regedit and search for the key Photoshop.exe that you will find the the default programs for open and edit are set to the 64 bit exe.  Try changing them to the  32 bit exe, This is what my Windows 7 registry key look like. You would change both of them to something like:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\ Photoshop.exe " "%1"
Do you have some third party 32 bit plug-ins installed is that  why you want the 32bit version to start

  • CS5 & CS6 (Photoshop and Bridge) file association fix ?

My Win7 SP1 system is now runnging smoothly with Bridge CS5 properly invoking Photoshop PS5 and Bridge CS6 invoking Photoshop PS6.  Simply changing the File type associations in Bridge CS5 did not seem to work.  This was "solved" at 3AM last night while sipping a glass of Scotch - therefore it would be interesting if others would confirm my sleepy discovery:
    1. CS6 assigns all standard graphics files to be associated with CS6 and thus causes Bridge CS5 to invoke Photoshop PS6.  The objective is to have Bridge CS5 invoke PS5 at least for chosen file types.  Ensure neither CS5 nor CS6 is invoked.
    2. In the Win7 Start Menu search box, type "file association".
    3. Select the "Change the file type associated with a file extension".  This starts a window titled "Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program".
    4. All of the graphic files are assocated with CS6.   For those files you want to associate with Photoshop PS 5, click on the choses file extension (e.g. .cr2, .nef, .psd, etc) and click on the "Change Program" to associate the extension to Adobe Photoshop CS5.  (note.  this step seems to be a necessary operation since, when I simply modified the Bridge 5 file type associations, Bridge 5 did not honour the change).
    5. Start Bridge CS5. Choose "Edit -> Preferences -> File Type Associations".
    6. For each file type you wish opened in CS5, change the association from CS6: choose the "Browse" option and locate the CS5 version of Photoshop.exe".  This is probably in Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)/Photoshop.exe.  I happen to choose .cr2, nef, and .psd.  Click on OK to complete the association.
At this point, you can invoke Bridge 5 and it will properly invoke PS 5.  If you invoke Bridge 6, it will invoke PS6.  If you use file manager to invoke one of your selected file extension types, it will start Bridge PS 5. Other graphic files will start PS 6.
If you wish, you can go back and reassociate the chosen types to CS 6 - but your Bridge 5 will still invoke PS5 for your chosen extensions since the Bridge-assigned file associations takes priority over the windows default programme.

Great summary!  I will amend the association FAQ

I have mac OS X, Photoshop CC 64 bit and and i would like to run 32 bit plugins.. How may I do this ?

As said already by JJMack, you cannot do that.
Photoshop CS6, CC & CC 2014 only install a 64-bit version on Mac OS.
Photoshop CS5 installs a version that can launch in either 32 bit or 64 bit when you install on a 64-bit version of Mac OS (Mac OS X 10.5 or later). If you are using Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier, then Photoshop only installs the 32-bit version.
    Photoshop CS4 installs a 32-bit version only.

  • Windows Update Causing CS6 Photoshop x64 to crash at "Measuring Memory"

    Hello,
This started on the 28th when we received a batch of Windows updates on our machines. The next day the eight users who have this installed are no longer able to open the 64 bit version of Photoshop. Each time it will get to "Measuring Memory" and then crash with no events in the Event Viewer. I have tried to remove the Windows updates manually with no luck. The only way to get it back to working is to do a System Restore. When doing some troubleshooting I discovered that if I use log in on the workstation that is crashing with my account then Photoshop 64 bit will open for me and get past the measuring memory. So I tried to figure out what relationship photoshop has with the users account and all I found was the users "Settings/Preferences". I had the user log back in and went to the location of that file and removed the 64 bit version. I then opened Photoshop back up and it created a new file but still crashed on measuring memory.
If you have other suggestions or knowledge of what else is tied to the users account. I should also mention that the 32 bit version works fine on the machine for all the users.
    Thank you for your help.

    Bump. Still looking for help.
I have tried to run all Windows updates and then uninstall and re install Adobe Photoshop both 32-bit and 64-bit. The system still crashes. In the event viewer I am getting this:

  • Cs6 photoshop has out of memory error 10.8.1

CS6 Photoshop gives a not enough memory error when opening a new file on a 24" 2008 iMac 3.06 GHz, 4GB Ram running 10.8.1. Can I run CS6 on a 32 bit machine.

4 GBs of RAM is not nearly enough to run both OS X Mountain Lion and  PSCS6.
OS X, by itself, can use between 3 and 4 GB of RAM for the OS to run smoothly.
Leaving only 1 GB or less for running Photoshop.
Photoshop is notoriously CPU! GPU, RAM and HD intensive.
Your iMac can take a max. RAM amount of 6 GBs.
Install the additonal 2 GBs of RAM. Hopefully this will be enough to run PS sufficiently.
You can purchase reliable RAM online from either Crucial memory or from OWC.
Here are the specs for your iMac's memory

Here is the procedures to install the additonal RAM memory, yourself.

  • Finding photoshop CC 64 bit version. I can only see the 32 bit in my downloader

finding photoshop CC 64 bit version. I can only see the 32 bit in my downloader
    where is it?

it doesn't offer a choice. maybe it installs both, but the only one that's showing in the Programs list is the 32-bit.
I've worked out how to fix the problems I had - here's what I had to do:
manually find the .exe in the 64-bit Programs directory and create a shortcut to that
hack the registry so that CC is recognised as a valid "open with" program (by manually editing 'CS6' to 'CC' according to some instructions I found on another site)
    delete CS6
    then install my plug-ins, manually.
The whole process is way messier than it needs to be, and none of this is documented on the Adobe site.

  • CS6 Photoshop menus, palettes and UI is blurry

    hi,
this issue may have already been brought up but i have not been able to find an answer.
i just installed CS6 photoshop to retina macbook pro and the menus and palettes (the text) are all blurry. any photos i open in photoshop also appear blurry. can someone please help?
    thanks,
    judy

yes, that was the first thing I did. The maker says he's never seen that issue before and claims that something on my system is conflicting. I checked the Kwik 2 forums, and did a bit of googling and have seen no mention of this issue. Also, the fact that it actually does load and run normally when I log in as a different (newly created) user, further validates his response that it is something specific to my system/user.
What I'd ideally like to know is, how would I go about troubleshooting this?
I saw a few Photoshop troubleshoot pages by Adobe, but none have helped. Doesn't PS create a log? Can I start it in "debug" mode for troubleshooting? I've found no documentation on advanced troubleshooting. I did find this in my csxs2-PHXS.log file:
ERROR EvalScript: Failed to evaluate script for engine <swfpanelengine-Kwik 2-1>
Not sure what that means or what to do about that.
    Any advanced help?

  • CS6 photoshop installer requirements

I have purchased the CS6 Photoshop but when I try installing it a message pops up saying that my mac doesn't meet the system requirements of the installer. It requires version 10.6.0 and I own the Mac OS X version 10.5.8. Do I need to return my order and exchange it for a less advanced software?

Yes , Photoshop CS6 requies 10.6 and later hence you are not meeting the minimum system requirement.
You can return the Photoshop CS6 but Adobe is no more selling the CS5.5 or previous version of its software so I would say if you have intel based processor which support 64 bit application the best option would be to upgrade your OS to 10.6 or 10.7 , if your processor doesn't support 64 bit application then you have to upgrade your complete Mac,
Please go through the tech specs of Photoshop to know details and best option.
So, judgement lies in your hand , you want to upgrade the Mac or return PS CS6

  • Adobe CS6 Photoshop always opens a previous file.

Why is it that when ever I launch CS6 Photoshop does it automatically open a file that I worked on previously? The file (at this point) is always the same file and is was worked on over a month ago.

  • Photoshop CS5 64-bit crashes when opening an image; 32-bit works fine

This is a bit of a tricky problem, but if I start up Adobe Photoshop CS5 64-bit, it runs alright. But the second I choose an image and open it, I get "Photoshop has stopped working..." and Windows tries to find a solution.
However, the 32-bit version of PS CS5 works perfectly.
On my Mac Mini, however, which ONLY HAS Photoshop 64-bit (Creative Suite 5, Snow Leopard, latest updates), images open and edit fine.
On my PC, I also had this same exact problem with the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS4.
I read in a few forums that it might be a corrupt font, etc., but I have no idea why a corrupt font would be affecting how Photoshop 64-bit opens an image, especially if I don't even get a chance to edit the image or anything. The images I've been trying to update are JPEGs.
I have all of the updates installed on my PC regarding CS5. It's completely updated. I am really stuck. I'd like to be able to take advantage of the 64-bit technology and put that version of Photoshop to use, but I can't.
Thanks in advance. I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Also, @Chris Cox- I do have the most recent beta driver installed for my onboard graphics card, which is an Nvidia GeForce 6150SE, maybe that could be causing it. I will uninstall it and install the most recent recommended release from Nvidia's site.

  • Can I open a CS6 Photoshop file in Adobe Photoshop Touch for Phone?

I am trying to rountrip a ps file to/from Adobe Photoshop Touch for Phone to/from CS6 Photoshop on a mac. Is it possible? It seems (so far) I can create a .psdx on the phone and edit on my desktop, but once editing in CS6 PS, I can't get that file back on the phone for editing. Any ideas... or is it a one way street from phone to desktop right now? thx!!!

    Hi there,
In general, the .psd format is fairly backwards compatible. To help get your files ready to be opened in CS3, follow this process:
    1) Go to Photoshop > Preferences > File Handling.
    2) In the menu, make sure Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility is set to always.
Just in case, you may also want to save your file as a .TIFF, which is a format that will also preserve your layers and is able to be opened in older versions.
Please let us know if you need any more information, and good luck with your project!
