Is dnetc.exe safe now?

I have been reading the very helpful stickies and on "AMD 64 Bit CPU's!!!! READ!!!", in the first post, Bas mentions using dnetc.exe to stress test a cpu.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=36513.0
I didn't see a link to download it there so I searched for it on Google and I am confused as it appears to be listed as some kind of dangerous or virus file by McAfee and Microsoft.

Bas can I use the file safely or is it another file with the same name?
So far I have also downloaded Prime95, Sandra and Memtest86.  Sorry if this is a complete newbie question.

Distributed.net is something simular to Seti and others.

There you can read all about it, it's not a virus

  • Is 10.4.8 safe now?

    Is 10.4.8 safe now?
I'm on 10.4.7 and was going to update a few weeks back, but did not as there appeared (on forums) to be lots of issues with 10.4.8.
Is it safe and sorted now? anyone give feedback of an okay update or should I hold out for another few months?

    Hi Nigel
after every new update there are a slew of posts about problems with it - I don't think that 10.4.8 had any more than 'usual' based on my experience here.
I've not had a single problem with 10.4.8 ( nor any other update ) & don't forget that most people don't come here to post that "everything's working fine" , so it's easy to get a bad impression.
Looking through various threads, I'd say that using Software Update ( as opposed to downloading the updates from Apple might be slightly less reliable..... but it's hard to be sure since I reckon that most people update w/o problems either way.
It's often recommended to run Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions before & after applying the update - so I'd do that if I were you.

  • So, is version 8.2.4 safe now?  :-/

So, I just got a new "toy":  I was able to upgrade my old Acrobat Standard 5.x  to Acrobat Professional 8 by purchasing a legitimate, unopened, sealed copy of the Acrobat Professional 8 update version for under $30 shipped.  (Version 9 requires an Intel machine and I have a PPC Mac.)
Now I've spent a good part of this evening applying update after update until I got to version 8.2.4.  The application launches fine and appears to be fully functional.
Then I read the long thread where most everyone in the world seemed to have trouble after the 8.2.4 update which was withdrawn and then re-released by Adobe, etc.
Am I safe now, or do I need to perform some sort of arcane ritual dance to fix anything?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you, ~graffiti.  Yes, i downloaded it and installed it last night, before learning about the problems with the now-withdrawn version.

  • Auto upgraded last night, Norton popped up with warning about using an exe file - Nortorn removed file now firefox won't work - what to do to restore firefox and keep bookmarks, etc. or is new exe safe to use?

After Firefox upgraded, I closed the upgrade window and started firefox. When I went to bookmarks and tried to open a program a Norton window opened warning that this was untested...only 10 users in the community and gave three options:
    1. Block program
    2. Remove file
    3. Let it run.
Not really knowing what was going on, I picked option 2. The "removal" was still running 7 hours later so I shut the computer down manually. All other programs seem to be working fine (email, Internet Explorer, etc.)
When I now open firefox I have the option to start a new session or restore. I have not restored and a new session will stay open a few seconds before microsoft closes the program ( program has stopped working). I would like to restore firefox and get it working without loosing my bookmarks, etc.or have Norton try to block the program. Also, I think the exe file in question is a launcher.

What are the names of the files? That is your beginning. One
option is to isolate your computer from the web while you get
    back control.

  • I just did two System Restores (and clicked something that asked me about "[something -exe]," and now Firefox won't open at all.

I hope someone can help. My husband did something to update Firefox (or Firefox just automatically updated today, I don't know which), but I didn't like the new toolbar much, so I did a System Restore to get back the old one. That didn't work, so I then did another System Restore for an earlier day, but when I restarted the computer, Firefox wouldn't open at all.
A pop-up asked me something about "allowing 'something-.exe' at start-up," with options like "Remember this action, don't allow, and allow," I think, and I don't remember what I clicked, and that's likely part of the problem, but in any case, I can't get Firefox to start now. I click on the logo/icon and nothing happens.
I tried to undo both System Restores, but the computer would only restore the most recent one, not both.
And I tried, as suggested on the forum elsewhere, to go into "Firefox Safe Mode," but that didn't help either.
    Thank you for any help.

That's what happened to me too after I upgraded to firefox 4 and it wouldn't connect to my internet. Now I'm stuck with Internet Explorer with none of my important personal information like my favorites.

  • Is IOS 8.x safe now?

Due to its initial problems, I have not yet upgraded to IOS 8.1.  Is it safe to do so now?

Only a few users have problems with iOS updates and 8.1 seems not different that other updates.

  • Broadcast safe now only works when clips are nested?

Am I crazy or is this true? Just started working on FCP 7.0.2....
Dropped a broadcast safe on a clip. The excess luma still shows in the video scopes. Nested the clip, dropped the broadcast safe on it, now all seems to be fine.
Is this new behavior in 7.0? or, am I insane / imagining things?
    Thanks

Strange but true Mark, just tested and see the same behavior here ... I don't generally use the BS filter myself as I've never found its corrections suitable for the specs I need to adhere too (I prefer to legalise manually) so never noticed this before. Odd find.

  • 7.0.2: Safe now?

Have stayed with 6x because of the problems posted here about Seven. Does 7.0.2 make it safe to upgrade now?
    TIA,
    Geoff

PS1, the answer is yes. Read the following (from MacFixit today:
iTunes 7.0.2 (#3): Explanation of permissions changes in this release
We previously noted that iTunes 7.0.2 (and versions 7.0.1 and 7.0) makes a minor change to the way permissions are set on an executable that is located within the iTunes application package. As such, if you use Disk Utility (located in Applications/Utilities) to repair permissions after installing iTunes 7.0.x, you will see that the following changes have been made:
    Permissions differ on ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Frameworks/ InternetUtilities.bundle/Contents/MacOS/InternetUtilities, should be -rw-rw-r-- , they are -rwxrwxr-x
Essentially, this means that the InternetUtilities executable (located inside the InternetUtilities.bundle, inside the iTunes application package) has had its permissions changed to be executable for all users (Owner, group, and others).
This change would seem to make sense -- InternetUtilities is, after all, an executable file. In fact, this is the trend most Mac OS X applications have been following as of late, setting the executable bit for all users to on.
It would be natural to assume, however, that since Disk Utility looks at files in the /Library/Receipts folder to determine correct permissions, the iTunes-related receipt would be updated alongside iTunes 7.0.x, and the new permissions would be identified as correct.
The reason Disk Utility doesn't recognize the new permissions as correct, and changes them back to they way they were before iTunes 7.0.x (executable bit off for all users) is that -- as we've discussed in previous permissions coverage -- not all receipt files are scanned by Disk Utility. Only a hard-coded set of files is scanned, and this does not include the file iTunesX.pkg, which is the receipt updated alongside iTunes 7.0.x. The result is that, while iTunesX.pkg may included information about the updated permissions, it is ignored by Disk Utility which instead uses a different iTunes receipt (iTunes.pkg) to determine correct permissions.
What's not clear is the benefit of this change, and whether or not having the old permissions (executable bit turned off, as enacted by a permissions repair) can cause any problems. So far we haven't received any reports from readers indicating issues with iTunes 7.0.x after repairing permissions.
This case example is a good reminder that you should use the "Verify Permissions" option in Disk Utility first, and examine the intended changes before using the "Repair Permissions" option. You can then decide if you want to make all the permissions changes suggested.
But before you update, you need to download and install the Combo 10.4.8 updater.

  • Ended process plugin-container.exe and now it refuses to run again

OK WELL plugin-container.exe was using 95% cpu and i basically could not do anything, so i ended the process.
i figured it would run again when i reopened firefox but as you can see this wasn't the case.
So well, now i'm trying to figure out how to get it to work again since i can't even go on youtube without it apparently haha.
I've tried restarting firefox, my computer, manually running it, and uninstalling and reinstalling firefox :/ and nothing is working.
    Not sure what to do?

Make sure that your firewall doesn't block the plugin-container precess.

I know adobe flash has been vulnerable but is it still. It tells me to update and the top choice says it is vulnerable. The second choice didn't succeed. I have this problem with other videos as well. Thank you very much! K.

  • Exchange 2013 sp1- msexchangemailboxreplication.exe.config now XML?

I just went to check the maximum moves setting before I start a migration and this file is now XML? It used to be a text file. Its now very hard to follow. What is the best practice way of viewing and modifying this file now?
The reference I used to use was this- but I think its outdated
    http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2013/mobility-client-access/exchange-2013-local-mailbox-moves-part1.html
    I can see a line:

I'm guessing I can modify that- but from those numbers maybe I don't need to :)

    Hi Tony,
    Really great information .
Though they have increased all the values from CU3 I think even if we change these values there shouldn't be any problem. I think your guess should be most likely correct.

  • Question, is my mac safe now?

ok so i have a week 25 macbook, been using it very regularly since i got it june 24. but everyday that i have used it i have never touched the armrest because ive been using a sleeve i sewed to go over it.
so basically at this point is discoloration a possibility even though ive had it for so long? or will it discolor soon after i start using it regularly(without sleeve)
    any help is appreciated!

Don;t worry about looking for something to be wrong. use it and enjoy it - LOL!
Seriously, if you have not had any issues with discoloration, I would say that it is likely that you are safe. If not, Apple is addressing the problem so you have that to fall back on anyway.

  • Will Firefox 6.0 support Norton Identity Safe now? If not now, when?

I lost Norton Identity Safe when I upgraded to Firefox 5.0. I don't want to upgrade to 6.0 until I know it will support this plug-in. I DO NOT like Last Pass plug-in; every time I use it I get the error message that I am not on line and I know I am.

If identity safe, part of Norton 360, doesn't work with the new version I do not want to waste my time with it.

ah. Well, maybe Restore from DiskUtility? I'm just trying to get a way to have a "fresh" copy of my system and get away from this weird Spotlight problem. I've done it all - checked my disk, deleted spotlight index, etc. I have a LOT of files. Spotlight takes about 48 hours to get it all. But even after it does, Time Machine is always "Waiting for index", I see mds crashes in console log, and now my Outlook can't search for emails anymore (even though Spotlight search seems to be working). Also my Time Machine is super-speedy now, confirming that Spotlight isn't doing the horrible thrashing it normally does (which I used to see in fs_usage). ps -e doesn't show mds anymore, so I think it's off completely, although weirdly, apple-spacebar (Spotlight search) still works fine.
What do you need RAID0 for?
I was hoping to speed up the indexing (since fs_usage told me Spotlight was spending all its time re-indexing my large Outlook email database, and was too busy to help Time Machine, which would then slow down my whole computer every hour). I got two very fast Raptor drives, put them in a RAID0 array, and used SuperDuper to clone my system to it (someone else on the forums suggested that such cloning is a good way to get away from system inconsistencies). I tried to boot off it, and it won't do it - still boots off the main drive.
Personally I would ignore any form of RAID until you are able to get your
system to work properly without it. Then and only then would I even consider
    any experimentation with RAID.
IMHO RAID adds to many variables to the equation of troubleshooting a system at
the same time you are implementing it. I would put RAID into a more difficult
change to implement then a system upgrade.
ah. I didn't know; I thought it would be seamless and invisible to the upper layers... I guess I was naive. Ok, fine - I can wait with the RAID0. I guess I just need to know what to do with this darn Spotlight. I have to have it on and scanning, otherwise I can't find emails in Outlook. But then it gets so busy it can't talk to my TM. I do have a similar setup at home, which does work fine, so I know it can work...
    thanks,
    Mike

So is this a Bug in firefox 30 or windows 8.1 or with the actual certificate or cert providers ?
If with providers then what do they need to do in order for it to work without errors in any browser ?
