Is DOM supported using SNMP on Cisco 6500;s?
Is DOM supported using SNMP on Cisco 6500's? I've configured DOM on 6509 using transceiver type all -> monitoring. Is DOM enable for SNMP mibs? Here's the MIB I got from a vendor. .1.3.6.1.4.1.3607. And I'm unable to walk it on any of my Cisco devices including Nexus 5672 and 4900.
That oid looks like the sysoid for the ONS series of products. I don't think that will work in this case. Unfortunately, I can't offer any other advice, I've not looked into snmp support for DOM.

Configuration of ping using SNMP rw on Cisco devices
Hello,
the customer would like to use SNMP RW access for configuration of ping on Cisco devices. He wants to use ping with the following parameters: destination address, length, number of packets and with DF bit set (it is very important for our customer). Is possible to use SNMP RW and which MIB (OID) is possible to use for it?
Thank you very much.
RomanHi ,
Extendeing ping with SNMP, unfortunately this is not possible at this point, the only MIB for "ping" features is
CISCO-PING-MIB and it does not contain any OID allowing an extended ping.
Please check the below link for more information:
http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseMIB.do?local=en&mibName=CISCO-PING-MIB
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk362/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094e8e.shtml
I hope this information will help you !!!
Thanks--

How to reboot Nexi using SNMP (tsMsgSend not supported)
How does one reboot Nexus using SNMP?'
Normally, I reboot IOS gear using:
snmpset -c {private} {switch|router|whatever} tsMsgSend.0 i 2
tsMsgSend OBJECT-TYPE
SYNTAX INTEGER {
nothing(1),
reload(2),
messagedone(3),
abort(4)
ACCESS read-write

DESCRIPTION
"Sends the message. The value determines what
to do after the message has completed."

But our new Nexi (5000 and 7500) don't support tsMsgSend in various ways:
N5K
Reason: notWritable (That object does not support modification)
Failed object: OLD-CISCO-TS-MIB::tsMsgSend.0
N7K
Reason: wrongValue (The set value is illegal or unsupported in some way)
Failed object: OLD-CISCO-TS-MIB::tsMsgSend.0
Yes, I have the following in the Nexi config files:

Stuart Kendrick
FHCRCHi,
The only way that a device can be reloaded using SNMP is with the SNMP object tsMsgSend
(1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.9.9).
As per the official Nexus MIB support list, the OID is not supported in NX-OS

Cisco 6500 Sup2 IOS with SLB support
Hello
A have two questions about SLB funcionality on Cisco 6500 SUP2/MSFC2
1) Is IP LAN ONLY ios support SLB ? If yes, does it have any restrictions ?
2) How heavy IOS SLB for processor ? (i mean in dispatched mode). Are sup-bootflash: and sup-bootdisk: the same thing ?
No, they are not. sup-bootflash: is located inside but the sup-bootdisk: is located OUTSIDE and is physically accessible. If you look at the line card, you'll see a CF slot marked "Disk0:" or "Slot0". This is the sup-bootdisk:. It is also known as "disk0:". Confusing, I know.
Can I make use of the disk0 of both chassis to perform ios upgrade ?
Of course you can. I perform VSS upgrade just using one of the disk0: and push the IOS from the disk0: to the two supervisor cards.
By setting the boot path to disk0
You can too. The sup-bootflash: and the sup-bootdisk:/disk0: are the same physical format.
A word of caution: I cannot stop reiterating the importance of checking the MD5 hash value of the IOS file in the sup-bootdisk: or sup-bootflash: BEFORE rebooting the chassis for an IOS upgrade. Make sure the MD5 hash value match exactly to the MD5 hash value found in the Cisco website. Once they are match, check the boot variable string, the config-registry and you're off to the next step. -
Collecting information from Cisco switchs using SNMP
Dear All,
I have a wide network with more than 250 sites connected using the DSL. the WAN devices are under the provider responsability and the LAN devices are directly in my responsability. In each site, I have :
1 or 2 Cisco switchs (2960 or 3560), connecting via fibr.
or
Linksys switch connected via ethernet cable
and
cisco 877 router connected to switch
cisco 881G router conected to switch
pc and printers
In order to improve the availibilty of our network, we lauch every day a script from local pc to test connectivity of LAN equipements :
ping to switchs (Vlan 1), ping to ip fa0/0 cisco router1, ip cisco router2, ping to HSRP address (of two router). the resulting ini file will be inserted in a database and exported to excel for analysing.
I'm asking if someone can help in order to implement SNMP and let me know the name of cisco MIB to implement to :
- to have from SNMP information, the result of show cdp nei, show interface status, show ip int brief,...
- to have if wan router LAN interface are up,connected
- others usefuls informations.
Thanks and regards,
AAHi,
the basic SNMP config for 2960 and 3560 is:
snmp-server community <> RO
The configuration for SNMP traps to get alerts from the device if there is for example a failure with a fan is:
snmp-server enable traps
snmp-server host <> <>
This enables all traps available with your IOS version. You can the disable not wanted traps by using the "no"-command like this.
Example for dot1x traps:
no snmp-server enable traps dot1x
With a snmp client you can then do a snmpwalk (or snmp get) without a specific OID to get all the SNMP information from the device:
On a Linux server the following command should work:
snmpwalk -v 2c -c <> -T <>
-v = use SNMP version 2c
-c = use the community string you configured on the device
-T = output in the dotted decimal format
But be careful, this will be a lot of data output.
Here you will find a docu for configuring SNMP on a Cisco device:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_2/configfun/configuration/guide/fcf014.html

RVS4000 remote management using SNMP not Supported over WAN
I'm trying to mange the RVS4000 router from the WAN side. I just changed the default password and in the firewall setting:
Block WAN Request is disabled.
Remote Management is enabled with the default port.
But I am not able to connect to the router remotely (using its WAN IP address). I can ping its WAN IP address fine from the remote PC. The router functions normally (i.e. PC on the LAN can connect to the Internet) but the remote management via SNMP also does not work. In most cases, the router just does not respond to the TCP SYNC or SNMP request from the WAN. Occassionally, it responds to the TCP SYNC fine but when the remote PC requests the HTTP page, it quickly responds with FIN/ACK.
In addition, I can connect to its WAN IP address from the LAN side. But it just does not work from the WAN side.
I tried disabling firewall, IPS, etc, nothing works.
Message was edited by: Steve DiStefanoShoot, I just tried it myself. Didnt work. I contacted development team and they told me it wasnt speced to operate for SNMP management (port 161) over the WAN.
Remote Mgmt on RVS4000 is limited to WebUI access on RVS4000, and SNMP is only accessible from LAN side.
This product did not have any requirement to be accessed from Internet using SNMP.
Very sorry I didnt know this. Was there a datasheet or paper that indicated this was supported I can correct to prevent this frpom happening to others like us?
You know, I was thnking that the times I used SNMP on SB Routeres was when I was VPNed into the router, then it works, since it is supported on LANB side. is that an option for you?
Tell us about what typs of things you view walking SNMP from the NOC and we'lls ee if there are alternative ways for you to get the same data.

Hi,
Is there a way to check if there is an active alarm on a cisco switch/router (M4900/4948 series and 2960 series) using SNMP ?
I'm looking for a simple quick way to verify if an alarm is active (any alarm)
is there some sort of general OID that gives me a '1' or '0' ?
thanks !
grtz
ThijsLike a table that hold all alarms. No there is no such thing.
There are so many reasons there could be an alarm. Hardware state, error rates, utilisation, etc
There are hardware state OID's that can give you a hardware component status.
Usually you will find that you have an OID for a component, like a fan.
1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4.1.3
You can then walk this OID to find the instances of that OID.
E.g, a fan for the device and another fan for the power supply, or a fan for each stack member.
When you know these instances lets say the walk return .1001and .2004 you can query
1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4.1.3.1001 and 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4.1.3.2004.
The values returned can be:
Specific Object Information
Object
ciscoEnvMonFanState
OID
1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4.1.3
Type
CiscoEnvMonState
1:normal
2:warning
3:critical
4:shutdown
5:notPresent
6:notFunctioning
Permission

current
MIB
CISCO-ENVMON-MIB ; - View Supporting Images
Description
The current state of the fan being instrumented.
So then you have an alarm for the fan's.
It is similar for other components like a power supply or temperature sensors, etc.
http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseMIB.do?local=en&step=2&mibName=CISCO-ENVMON-MIB
And then there are operational alarms not related to hardware.
For this you need to monitor values like CPU utilization and define a threshold.
Good luck,

Dear All,
In Cisco Switches and routers we can enable access to the ARP Table using SNMP by using the following commands:
no snmp-server view MibExcluded at excluded (Mac Address Table)
no snmp-server view MibExcluded ip.21 no excluded (Routing Table)
snmp-server view MibExcluded ip.22 excluded (ARP Table)
how i can enable the ASA/FWSM to allow access to the ARP Table using SNMP?
best RegardsThe at and ipNetToMediaTable are not supported on the ASA or FWSM. There have been numerous requests for support, but I do not know of an ETA for these objects.
The bug ID for the enhancement request is CSCsq35214. -
Shutdown service in ACE using SNMP
Dear Mister
Is possible to configure, shutdown a service using SNMP? More than this, in a context???
I am searching the OIDs about it, but, I am not lucky.
Regards and thank in advanceHi,
I don't think so. You have list of MIB's available which can fetch data from ACE but there is no such provision to shut down the service using SNMP. The ACE supports traps and SNMP get requests but does not support set requests to configure values on the device. Please visit the below link for more information:

How to count/determine downtime of Cisco 6500 switch?
Hello,
I work with cisco 6500 switches. now we need to evaluate the down time of all switces. now we using cacti to query system information to switches using SNMP, but some times cacti didnt get the data because of high cpu in switch so the switch stop di SNMP service. because of that, the data in Cacti not valid to determine our switch Downtime.
Is there any tools or ather way to monitor Cisco switch downtime??
Thanks a lot.just like a reminding system. it can be send an email or some message.
EEM can be configured to send someone an email when some kind of "event" is triggered, such as an uplink goes DOWN/UP.
However, the chassis can't send an email if it's down but can be configured to send out an email when the supervisor card boots up. -
Hi there,
I am encountering a problem with a number of Cisco IPS 4200 series devices. When we perform a walk using the MIB-II (rfc1213) OID's, the information that is returned is incorrect (interface status, speed, ...)...
After some searching, i found the following on the cisco site for these devices:
The following private MIBs are supported on the sensor:
• CISCO-CIDS-MIB
• CISCO-PROCESS-MIB
• CISCO-ENHANCED-MEMPOOL-MIB
• CISCO-ENTITY-ALARM-MIB
Note MIB II is available on the sensor, but we do not support it. We know that some elements are not correct (for example, the packet counts from the IF MIB on the sensing interfaces). While you can use elements from MIB II, we do not guarantee that they all provide correct information. We fully support the other listed MIBs and their output is correct.
Is there any way that we can correctly read the interface status, speed, etc. I cannot find similar OID's in the supported MIB's.
IPS4240 ver 7.0(4)E4
ThanksHi,
Unfortunately, there is currently no way to get the correct interface statistics through SNMP.
An enhancement request has been opened to have parts of MIB-II supported:
http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCsk41177
If this feature is important for you, you can contact your account team so that they can work with the IPS folks to have this feature prioritized for the next software release.

Cisco 6500 X6066 CSM Module Reporting
Hi;
Is there any tool for reporting on csm module reals/vservers etc. connections between given time periods ?
If not , may i export these values with any commands from cli ?
Thanks
UmutHi,
You can use any SNMP tool to monitor CSM using SNMP MIBS.The Cisco CSM supports two Read Only MIBs: CISCO-SLB-MIB and CISCO-SLB-EXT-MIB, which are available at ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/.
Traps can be sent based on real server, virtual server, and fault tolerant state changes. This is an old product and not much options are available SNMP wise.

It looks like the MIB is not supported on your device IOS.
Open the below link and click on "View Supported Images " to verify it.
http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?objectInput=1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.168.1.1.11&translate=Translate&submitValue=SUBMIT
Hope it will help

PPPoE Cisco 6500 + 7600-SIP-400
Hello,
we use a lot of Cisco 6500 switches across our network. I bought one 7600-SIP-400 with one SPA-5X1GE-V2 module.
Unfortunatelly I have found that there is no command support for PPPoE in my IOS version 12.2 SXI13.
Can somebody tell me which IOS version do I have to use to get command support for PPPoE Server?
Thank you.
