Is dual display possible with Apple TV?

As well as connecting my ATV to a Plasma I'd love to be able to simultaneously connect it to a second LCD screen. Is that possible directly from the ATV?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
There are some component and HDMI cable splitters, but I really wouldn't recommend that you use them. You will need a hardware splitter to maintain reasonable quality and they likely won't be cheap.
You cannot use the HDMI and component outputs simultaneously.

  • Dual-Display Setup with Screen-Specific Applications

I currently have a MacBook Pro connected to an external 24" display via Mini-DisplayPort. I traditionally have "small" apps like iCal, iTunes, etc... display on my smaller MBP screen while "larger" apps like MS Word or Firefox are kept on the external 24" screen. The menu bar is set on the external 24" display.
Every time I disconnect the MBP and reconnect it later, these apps all switch around so that the small ones show up on the external display while the large ones appear on the MBP screen. Then I have to drag them over one by one to get them how I like it again. It's a very annoying process that I have to do over and over again.
Is there anyway to set "defaults" for which screen an application is assigned to display onto? I called Apple support about this and they simply told me it was the "expected behavior" but I'm still looking for a solution, third-party or otherwise. Thank you.

*Lots and lots* of people run dual displays, as a quick scan of the posts here makes clear. Here are just a few possible explanations for the failure of a satisfactory solution to appear in this forum:
    • None of those people is experiencing the same thing that's bothering you.
    • None of them is as bothered by it as you are.
    • None of them who is bothered has figured out how to remedy it.
    • No one who is bothered by it and has found a remedy has visited this forum and read your post.
    • No one who has read your post and could answer your question has taken the trouble to do so.
    • There is no solution; the answer you got from Apple is really the answer.
Any of these possibilities may explain the lack of a posted solution. One of the fundamental verities about these forums that you have to accept is that no one here owes you a solution. Many questions do draw highly satisfactory responses, and if you get one, great, but there's no guarantee. I understand that you're frustrated, but the forum is what it is, and being grumpy and impatient won't attract the help you want. After a few bumps, you may just have to accept that no one knows what to tell you.
In case you suspect that I'm holding back out of sheer perversity, I don't use a second monitor (other than a portable projector on occasion). I haven't seen the problem that's annoying you, and I don't know what to suggest doing about it.

  • Dual Display Problem with new MacBook Pro

    Hi All,
I just got a new MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo and a 30" Dell LCD Monitor. Both are AWESOME products, BTW. But I am having a weird issue with running both displays.
If I sleep/wake the computer so that I'm never running with dual displays, everything seems fine. However, no matter what I try, I eventually get a system hang if both displays are active at once.
For example, if I turn the MBP off, attach the monitor, and power up, the MBP will get to the login screen. As soon as it hits the logon screen, it hangs.
If I hot-plug the monitor while the system is running, it will detect the new display and activate it as a secondary desktop. But, in anywhere from 5 seconds to 15 minutes (varies each time) the MBP display will turn off and the system hangs.
To me, it seems like a video driver bug or something similar to that?
    Thanks!

To those of you that inquired, NO, I have not yet resolved this problem.
I took the laptop into the Apple store, and they decided that it needed a new logic board. Then, once they received the part, and I took the laptop in for repair, they didn't replace the logic board. The guy on the bench reset the PRAM and decided that the problem was resolved. I took it home, and within about 20 minutes the same thing happened.
When I took it back to the store, I was unable to reproduce the problem for the mac Genius.
It still does it, I I just haven't had a chance to take it back to the store to try to reproduce the problem again.

  • Dual Display - help with Cinema Display for MacBook Pro where MB won't detect displays.

I just got a Cinema Display (a1081 20") ("CD") off eBay to use as a dual screen with my Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.8 ("MB"). However, I can't get MB to recognize CD! I've tried power cycling both the MB and the CD with and without USB cord connected. MB won't recognize CD display in any situation. However, it is recognized in some capacity although I can't use dual display because the CD power button triggers MB to ask me if I want to restart, shutdown, or cancel.
    Any help is appreciated!!

Have you tried smc and pram resets?
Try Detect Displays in the Displays preference pane.
Does the Displays preference pane Arrangement show two screens?  If so do click gather windows and check the resolution setting of the new screen.

  • Dual Display issues with Mac Pro 1,1

I am running two 19 inch displays, the main display works fine but the second display comes up black. The computer recognizes both displays and I can change the settings but no image will appear on the second monitor. Now, It seems to always think there are two diplays connected even after I disconnect the second monitor. I have a MacPro 1,1 2.66GHz with the Nvidia 7300 Gt Video Card.

Why not send the 7300GT to the shelf and give it a rest, time for ATI 5770 after all this time, which can be found on Apple Store $249.
Might want to inspect the 7300 for damage, dust, (whole case) and of course temps.

  • Is multitasking possible with Apple tv

I was wondering if it would be possible to wirelesslly connect your macbook pro and watch movies on a tv using the apple tv BUT then use programs while the movie is playing on your tv. Multistaking in a way.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Fortunately, that isn't possible.

  • Wireless display adaptor with apple macbook pro

can i use my Macbook pro running windows thru bootcamp with my wireless display adaptor?  So far it works perfectly with my surface tablet but cannot get it to work with the Mac.

First make sure that printer sharing is correctly setup on the PCs. It is best to make sure that you can print from one PC to the other PCs printer. Once you have established that you can be sure that the printers are accessible from the network. To find out how to do that read Windows help. There are step-by-step instructions and a wizard that helps you with the Windows setup.
Then read the Mac Help on how to access a shared windows printer in your network. Again you find step-by-step instructions how to do that.

  • Display movie with Apple pro

I read that 2nd display (Digital Cinema Desktop) is only supported via AGP video cards. I am about to buy a new Mac Pro (shipped with PCI Express video card). Does anyone know how I can display the video on an external HD TV while working with Logic Pro 8? Or is there any better solution for this matter?

    Hello guys,
Please note that to be able to play your purchased HD movies or videos, let us not forget some minor details. Ensure that your iTunes software is up-to-date. HD videos will only play if you have iTunes 10.6 or later as described in this article:
iTunes: Purchasing and viewing HD videos
You might also want to check this one:
iTunes for Windows: Unable to view or play HD video content that requires HDCP
I hope this helps a lot! Good luck!

  • IMac late 2009 having screen issue. Return possible with apple care?

I have 27" 2009 model. I bought it when it first came out. I knew that some of the first batch had screen 'yellowing' issue back then. I thought mine was fine or it was fine then it went bad.. either way I can now notice that the right side of my screen is more 'yellow-ish' than left. It is pretty significant difference and effects my graphic work.
I have bought apple care and haven't opened the envelop yet but what are my options? Do they accept return and give back refurbished ones? if so what's the turnaround time... or do they offer repair option at apple store?
    Thanks in advance

You need to contact AppleCare, you can find the phone and link information here.

  • Bridge and dual displays

I have been searching the web for a while now to find a way to show the usual Bridge window on one display and a preview - just a preview... no menu bar or other embellishments - on the other display in a dual display setup.
Apple's Aperture does it but I can't find a way to do it with Bridge, nor does it appear that Lightroom will do it.
I think this is a significant setback... being able to do this would be great for editing so you could see the image preview with no distractions and as big as possible. More to the point it would be good for presentations so the presenter can see all the folder structure, favourites, thumbnails etc but the audience only sees the intended image on a clean black (yes black... not the image backdrop colour) background.
I have found a way to cheat this, by extending the Bridge window over both displays and positioning all the favourites, folders, thumbnails panels etc on the extreme right side but you still see the menu bar and other bits and bobs at the window edges and the background colour is grey, not black (unless you set the image backdrop to black, which I think is a bit harsh for viewing thumbnails).
If you want to see what I mean, go to http://www.2020graphics.com.au/dual_displays.html
If anyone has any ideas on how to do this, or any Adobe engineers are reading this... help!!!

    >Select an image in Bridge. Then hit the space bar on your keyboard.
    <br />
<br /> This is what you get:
    <i>
    <b>Full Screen Preview Space</b>
</i> nothing but your image on the main monitor, your secondary monitor totally blacked out.
    <br />
<br /> You can use the arrow keys to navigate through the images in the folder. Use the escape key to go back to regular view.

  • Dual displays ("extended desktop") on the iBook

This is in response to a previous query that was strangely archived despite the original poster receiving no definitive answer.
The iBook G4 (and various other iBooks) does not support "spanning" dual displays (I believe Apple calls this feature "extended desktop") with Leopard. Evidence of this is the missing "Arrangement" tab in the Display system preference pane.
The Tiger version of Spanning Screen Doctor (http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html) does, indeed, work correctly on an iBook G4 running 10.5.4. After rebooting, the "Arrangement" tab will now appear in the Display pane.
Hopefully this saves some iBook users some time and effort in resolving this issue.

    Thank you for yor help.
I have one more question to ask? If I use the LCD TV like Sony or Samsung with the New i-Mac will I loose deskspace on the LCD TV due to the low resolution on the LCD TV? I thought the LCD TV was a good idea since it has all the input for all my DVD player, TV box?, Nintendo, and the VHS?, but I was told that LCD TV might not be too compatible for use with a computer.
How do I put all my stuff on a Apple 23" LCD display I only can find adapters that can only take one peripheral at a time, and I don't want to re plug a TV box each time I want to watch TV. It looks like I need a box for use with Apple display with 3~4 input and S video, and HDMI input for the HD stuff?
Again thank you for all your help.

  • "Design" view as a separate panel for dual-display

I just started using CS6 and was really hoping to see a new workflow enhancement for dual-display production with the "Design" view. I code all of my markup by hand in the code view. I would love to see the "Design" view in a separate panel that I could drag over to my second display by itself. Sort of like designers using "Code Inspector" as a panel on their second display. But for me, to maximize efficiency, I need the code to be closest to all of the menu bars and panels. I just want to make a code edit, click the DW "refresh" button, and glance at the layout in a "Design" without having to do additional clicking or moving pointer from display to display, ya know? Using browsers I have to save the file(s), upload the file(s), wait for the transfer to complete, move my pointer to the second display, click the refresh button, THEN look at the layout. Ugh. Been doing this for years, and really am tired of it. I have looked through the commands and online material hoping to find an update. Is this still a pipe dream?
    Thanks for any info,
    - DK

Apart from using the Code Inspector, I don't believe this is possible. It sounds like a sensible suggestion, though. You can file a feature request through the form at http://adobe.ly/DWBug.

  • Dual Display on Mac Mini

    Hi there,
I want to have a dual display setup with my Mac Mini. There's also a twist. One of the displays is a regular monitor. The other display is a 46" TV. I am not too technically minded - is there a splitter or some kind of dual display "kit" I can pick up?
    Thanks!

Which Mac mini? The new one has two video outputs on it, so two displays is not a problem.

  • Dual Displays, not enough firewire ports?!

My MacPro isn't here yet...and I only have 1 cinema display right now but plan on adding a 2nd one in a few months.
In my anticipation for the Mac to be dropped of by FedEx, I noticed something while reviewing the specs...
My video card, the ATI Radeon X1900, has two DVI ports (so I can do two 23" or whatnot). If I use the my 23" Cinema Display, I can plug in the USB, the Firewire & the DVI connector.
However!! If I get a 2nd 23" Cinema Display, there's room for another DVI port and USB but NO firewire port. There's only ONE 400 FW port on the back of this machine?!?!
What do you all do if you're dual displaying it w/ Apple displays??

Well, the Firewire cable/port in the monitor is only there as a hub/extender, it doesn't affect the working of the monitor itself. So you can always attach the cable from the second monitor into the Firewire port of the first monitor. It depends how many other Firewire devices you need to add.
