Is dv6-6135dx SATA III compatible?

I upgraded my dv6-6135dx to a OCZ Agility 3 SSD, but am only getting SATA II speeds. I know the chipset supports SATA III, but did HP choose not to support it? Will there be a BIOS update to turn it on?

hello again, i searched in my BIOS an option related with SATA and i didn't found , can you tell me where it is.
i installed the disk and is working (but not well) the processor is working at 80% 90% almost all the time.
    thank again.
If the cpu is working like that it's definitely a software issue. There could be a conflict between the SSD controller and Vista drivers..

  • Will my DV7-6c95dx except an SSD without modification and is it SATA III compatible?

    Hi:
Or does it need an adaptor of some sort.
    Win7
If it's not SATA III compatible (vs earlier versions)  would this be a valid reason to consider NOT installing and SSD?
    And one last question:
This computer has a display different from any LCD that I've encountered before. The contrast adjustment in the Intel Graphics window seems to almost seem a gamma adjust with "washout" happening with very small moves of the slider to the right..
    Normal for this machine?

    Hi,
No, I don't agree with this because SATA III is backward compatible. Yes, you can't get SATA III speed but you can see huge improvement specially boot & shut down time, copy files, photoshop .... in comparision with a normal 7200RPM HDD.

  • SSD Upgrade - SATA III Compatible Macbook Pro 2009

    Hi there,
Just wondering if someone could clarify this for me please:
Looking to upgrade to an SSD, a high end model. I want to spend around £250, but I'm not after lots of GB's as I'll be happy to move my media to an external drive, which is what currently uses 90% of my HDD space.
Anyway, I was looking into the OCZ Vertex SATA III, but after some searching around I'm not sure if the MB Pro has the ability to handle SATA III at 6GB's, so would be totally pointless paying extra for the SATA III capabilities.
Could someone just clear this up for me please, and if anyone could suggest a make/model for me? I'm looking to spend £250 tops, although like I said, i'll settle for little storage space. I'm really after just the quickest one I can find for that price. Looking to upgrade in time for a clean install of Lion, then I can take a lightening quick MB with me when I start med school in September!
    Thanks guys!
    Harrison

Unfortunately, without your actual Mac model how can we tell if it supports 6 Gb/s SATA?  You can check the specs for your model at support.apple.com/specs/.

  • Does dv6-6153cl support SATA III HDDs?

I'm having trouble with my laptop and I think I've narrowed the problem down to the HDD. I want to replace it, and upgrade it, but I'm not sure what HDDs I can use.
I'd like to know if I can install a SATA III HDD into my dv6-6153cl laptop. From what I can tell it currently has a SATA II HDD installed. Can I upgrade to SATA III or am I stuck with SATA II?

Get the SATA-III. Even if the motherboard would only support SATA-II (not true in your case) you can use SATA-III drives. SATA is fully backward compatible. But, again, your motherboard has the HM65 chipset which supports SATA-III. A good rule of thumb is if it has USB 3.0 it also has SATA-III. Not 100% true but awfully close to always true.

  • Does DV6-6136tx support SATA III?

I just bought this DV6-6136tx a week ago and I'm wondering if i can use SATA III SSD on it.
The chipset is HM65 which should be able to support SATA III.
I want to confirm this before I upgrade my harddrive to SSD.

    Thank Kamat & Pepe.
I heard that there is a difference between the cable for SATA II and SATA III.
Do you know the connector within this laptop is installed for SATA III or only for SATAII as Kamat said?
And by the way, are you guys from HP?
The SATA III connectors may have more pins than SATA II but because SATA III is compatible with SATA II the connectors look like the same. I believe that SATA III connectors in Sandy Bridge laptops are installed for a hard drive and for an optical drive. I mean 2 different cables from 2 SATA III ports on the motherboard..
Yes, Kamat works for HP, but I don't..

  • What sata port does a dv6-6135dx have?

I have a Pavilion dv6-6135dx and was wondering what sata port (Sata 2 or 3) it has so i can install an ssd.

    Hi:
I would imagine a SATA III SSD would work on a PC that only has a SATA II controller, so if they are close in price, I would go with the faster drive.
You have nothing to lose by getting the faster drive.
See if this free utility will tell you what "speed" your SATA controller can run at. (PC Wizard 2010).
    http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/pc-wizard/2012.2.0-setup.exe
According to the southbridge specs for your chipset, there is support for 3rd generation SATA drives.
See page 13 of the below document--SATA controller.

  • Sata III hard drive cable compatible with older generation of macbook pro

Would my macbook ( 17 in mid 2009 ) be compatible with a new hard drive cable ( sata III ) ? I upgraded my hard drive to Samsung Pro 840 and wanted to upgrade my sata II cable to a sata III for faster read and write. Is this possible?

    Dave The Newbie,
replacing the cable will not increase the interface speed, just as putting racing slicks on a minivan won’t make it a dragster. I have the same model SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and my MacBook Pro’s SATA interface is limited to SATA II, just like yours. Unless you’re planning on mainly running disk-bound apps, it’s not something that you’ll need to worry about — just enjoy the SSD as is.

One thing to keep in mind is that while you'll be amazed at the increase in performance an SSD can deliver over a HD, the two storage mediums work differently, and one of the OS features SSD's benefit from is TRIM. While you've probably seen a lot of discussion and disagreement about that on these forums, this article about the Samsung 840 EVO SSD also goes into how SSD performance changes over time for a variety of SSD's. The narrative is interesting but the graphs are an eye-opener, showing how relatively successful Garbage Collection alone vs GC + TRIM are in recovering full performance. That's the good news.
The bad news is that while activating TRIM is simple, activating it with Yosemite installed has a real down-side. So if you haven't upgraded to Yosemite yet, you might keep that in mind.

  • X220 msata slot compatible with SATA III

I do have a msata II 60gb in my x220, but would like to upgrade it with a bigger model from http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT120M500SSD3
that one is msata III but claims to be SATA 2 compatible.
Will this combination work with my x220? In another blog post I read that it has major drawbacks (much slower)  to use a msata3 drive in a msata2 slot. Is that true?

    @ritzdank...
I can't comment on Sandforce-based SSDs, but the Crucial m4 mSATA uses a Marvell controller.
This article: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6884/ states that the m500 is also Marvell-based.
Please post back with your impressions once you're up and running on the SSD.
    Regard.

  • Will a SATA III Hard Drive work on a Mac Pro 2,1 (2008)

Will a SATA III work on a Mac Pro 2,1 (I think 2008)?

If not the above, then what?

Apple Pro RAID card is not compatible with 3TB drives and never will be it now seems. It also lacks any real performance and is destined where RAID 5 is a must.
SSDs are a more interesting matter in choice and support... but not traditional platter type drives.
I use SSD for system now 100% on multiple systems, 10K WD VR ($200 for 1TB / 180MB/sec and variety of WD blacks and Green.
2008 has some interesting stuff, PCIe mix and support and booting, but more choices in GPU. Runs best with all 8 DIMM slots filled. Was the first to have UEFI to support 64-bit kernel but does not support industry standard enough to support Windows 8 UEFI.
Storage market would be a total mess like it was back in 2004 when SATA 1.0 moved to 2.0 and lots of problems. SATA 1.0 in early G5 was just PATA with an SATA interface chip slapped on and not "native" SATA. THAT is where the "will the IBM Hitachi or Seagate or Maxtor" really did require research. Not with Mac Pro line 2006 and on.

  • SATA III IN MACPRO 2009 and ML?

I have to replace two RAID drives and want to know if WD Black Caviar 2TB SATA III will be compatible with my MP 2009 and OS 10.8.3.
    Thanks.

The fastest available rotating drives can source a burst of data off the platters at about 1G bits/sec. That is less than SATA I.
    1) Which version of SATA is supported is not a limitation for most uses. Modern rotating drives are backward-compatible.
    2) Do not pay extra for advanced SAT Bus speeds, as you will not see an improvement in performance based on faster transfer rates. It ends up being "More Headroom " not "More performance".
