Is DVD 9 format compatible with MacBook Pro?

I want to purchase a DVD off of Amazon, but the product description says it's a long-format "DVD 9" which is intended for TV-top DVD player, and it is not compatable wtih all computers' DVD players. Will the DVD 9 format work on my MacBook Pro's DVD player?

"DVD-9, holds around 8 540 000 000 bytes and that is 7.95 computer GB. DVD+R supports this format. Also called Single Sided Dual Layered. This media is called DVD-R9, DVD-R DL, DVD+R9, DVD+R DL or 8.5 GB Media."

Dual Layer discs have been supported since at least 2005.  However, if the disc is a home brew disc, it may not be as possible to read it, if it was burnt at a higher speed than your player can read.  Commercial discs tend to be more readable.

  • External hard drive compatible with macbook pro 10.5.8

external hard drive compatible with macbook pro 10.5.8, i need a hard drive that will work with 10.5.8 to back everything up before upgrading to 10.6. a hard drive that is compatable with 10.5.8 has been impossible to find, a hard drive that works with both opperating systems is what i am looking for, any information that can help is appreciated

You can buy just about any USB2.0 hard drive and use it with your MacBook Pro.  Many older external drives come pre-partitioned and formatted FAT32 for use on Windows.  Your Mac can use that file system as well, but it has limitations on file sizes.  You can always re-partition your external drive and re-format it as HFS+ (MacOS Extended Journaled) then your old Mac OS version and your new one should both be able to access it just fine.  One thing to keep in mind is that many older OSes don't really handle drives larger than 2TB well, so you would probably want to try to keep your external drive to something smaller than 2TB...

lost my application dvd that came with macbook pro, early 2011. any alternatives to get the applications in that??

I'm not sure how this is an iTunes issue, but anyway, other than buying the apps from the Mac App Store (note that iDVD and iWeb are not available via the App Store), the only alternative is to call Apple support and give them the serial number of your Mac. They can usually sell you a new disk set for a reasonable fee.

Is the latest nvidia driver (280.26) compatible with MacBook Pro 6,2 model)? Boot Camp 4.0 comes with the 262.41 nvidia driver, but I'd like to upgrade to the latest 280.26. The official 280.26 driver page on the nvidia site says that GeForce GT 330M is compatible, but in the footnote is written this thing:
Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology with Intel chipsets are not supported by this release
Do you think this is the case of MacBook Pro 6,2 model? Can I upgrade the driver without any problem?
    P.S.
I've the nvidia geforce gt 330m 256 MB.

  • What optical drive models are compatible with MacBook Pro?

I need to buy an external DVD drive for my MacBook Pro. Are only certain models compatible? Suggestions would be great!

I recommend an Apple superdrive as it is certified by Apple.

There are many other ones that are a cheaper alternative however. This one from Amazon will work with a Mac. Look at the reviews

As for other external DVD drives, I'm sure they're compatible as well but it really depends.

  • Which HD camcorder will be best compatible with macbook pro?

Which HD Camcrder will be best copm with Macbook Pro?

There are scores of them on the market at any given time that will work just fine with the MBP. The list changes every week as models are introduced and discontinued. No one has tried enough of them to have any idea which is "most compatible," and since prices range from under $100 into the thousands and you've told us nothing about how much you hope to spend or what features you want, no one can answer your question.

One other option you might want to consider is exFat.
Its supported on Mac and Windows, and even my TV!
Its got very large file (128PB) and volume size support.
    Cheers.
    Not again.
The OP wants this to use with a PS3, which does not support exFat. So that suggestion (while quite correct on its face) won't work.
    Maybe this will help you.
Check what the File System type is. Do this by going to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Manager. Select the external drive and read the "File System" type. The file system type must be FAT32 in order for the PlayStation to recognize it.
Split larger, high quality files into smaller files, if necessary. FAT32 has a limit of 3.9 Gigabytes per file, which means some high quality HD movies might have to be split into smaller files, and that makes it less than ideal for some HD content.

  • Files not compatible with macbook pro

i have difficulty opening files on my macbook pro, the senders of the files tell me to use windows as their files aren't compatible with apple. is there a way to convert files

If you take a document, and TextEdit can handle some Word files. or if you use Pages (you have to EXPORT) files to Word format.
They are providing an exe is Windows only and read-only that won't run natively on Mac OS.
Not sure what TV  has to do with this.
Use Windows 7 and VirtualBox to do your word.

  • Macbook air superdrive compatible with macbook pro

i have the macbook pro laptop.  is the macbook air superdrive compatible with this?  iam using a external drive atm but it was not an apple product.  my computer has been upgraded this is the reason for the external drive.  can anyone advise?
    thanx Tracy Ann

Actually there is nothing different from the Apple Super drive to any other DVD drive made for notebook computers.
Any external DVD drive will work with a Macbook Pro.

  • Which USB superdrive is compatible with Macbook Pro 2009?

Have an old 2009 Macbook Pro running Mavericks and it seems the Superdrive is slowly dying. I've tried cleaning it. If I were to buy an external USB superdrive, which model is compatible?

Just check the box - as long as it is USB or Firewire (if you have a Firewire port), it should be fine. Note that you will not see its icon in the Finder - only if you insert a DVD or CD will you see that icon (if you've checked your Preferences to show them in Finder).

  • What monitors are compatible with MacBook Pro 13"?

Apart from Apple Cinema, what monitors are compatible with my new MacBook Pro 13"? I need something less expensive than an Apple Cinema monitor, but large enough to reduce my neck/eye strain.
I understand that it has something to do with Thunderbolt.
I am looking at a Benq 27 " LED monitor.

Any monitor that you can adapt a mini-displayport to (for these applications mini-displayport is compatible with thunderbolt).  For example HDMI, VGA, single link DVI and dual link DVI.  With DVI you need the dual link if the monitor resolution is greater than 1920 x 1200.

  • USB-3 card reader that is compatible with MacBook Pro (Retina) and Mountain Lion

Can anybody recommend a USB-3 based CompactFlash memory card reader that works with the MacBook Pro (Retina) and Mountain Lion (or, at least, Lion)?
    Thanks in advance...

Thanks for your reply, Clinton. But I already have two readers that are USB-2 compatible. Now I need the one like I described above. I am using only the fastest CF cards available.
I have read some user reports (on Amazon) on two readers relevant to my needs - SanDisk and Lexar - but I'm still not sure whether they are fully compatible with the Retina MacBook and Mountain Lion. As a matter of fact, I doubt it...
