Is editing in PS pdf mode OK?

I have made a multilayered file in PS CS3 then saved it as a pdf file as it is going overseas to be printed. I then made some changes in those pdf files. Is there any reason I need to go back to the original PS files and also make those changes or are the pdf files OK for these and any future changes? I saved the original pdf's for press high quality, and they are almost exactly the same size (MB)as the PS files. I wonder if the files get denigrated in any way by becoming pdf files and then continued to be worked on (they are still layered pdf files). Thanks for your feedback.

Photoshop PDF is a dual file format. There are two documents wrapped in one file. One document is the native PSD and the other is the PDF output
They can be different, sometimes very different. For example the PDF could be CMYK and downsampled and 8 bit, while the PSD is RGB, higher resolution and 16 bit. It depends on the PDF output settings that are used.
If the PDF portion is edited in another application, and you open the PDF in Photoshop you will be prompted with a message:
"The disk copy of (document) was changed since you last opened or saved. Do you wish to update it?"
The dual file format can be very confusing especially in the case of mixed color modes. A similar situation can be encountered in Illustrator PDFs. I have seen many CMYK PDFs where the native file is RGB.
The advantage to PDF as pointed out is the inclusion of vector information (fonts, paths etc). With PSD the vector information is there but not translated into an output format. Therefore if you import a PSD into another application such as InDesign, then output from ID, the vector data ends up as raster data.
Vector data output from Photoshop is not without problems. The construct is somewhat complex. All text and line art acts as a clipping path around surrounding contone (raster) information. This makes trapping a little more involved, and processing time in RIPs can slow down considerably. For this reason a lot of people don't bother with trying to retain the vector data, and instead just let it all become an image. Depending on the final plate output resolution and line screen used, sometimes a difference is not noticeable.

Im using BO X1r2 version and service pack is SP4.

    Hi,
Are you able to open other reports in PDF Mode or not
If you are not able to open any report in PDF format then try to follow  below mentioned steps.
    1. Open Adobe Acrobat Reader. Click Edit > Preferences.
    2. Click Internet in the Categories column of the Preferences property sheet.
    3. Choose Display PDF in browser check box as shown below.
    4. Click Ok, Adobe will reconfigure the setting, close Reader.
    5. Now, when we view in pdf format in IE, we might see one  message
    6. So, when IE is launched, go to Tools>Manage Add-ons>Enable or Disable Add-ons and then enable
"Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper" add-on. Click Ok, restart IE.
    Cheers,
    Suresh Aluri.

  • While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

Thanks for answering. The version is XI.0.10. I just did the update yesterday hoping that I could now properly edit a scanned pdf document. Yes, it's happening on most all scanned documents. I followed your steps & found the list of fonts used in the document & then attempted to edit. The same occurs. When I type in a correction, I get an error alert... "the original font (in this case Fd 5805) is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Minion Pro in its place."
When I select the text & right click as you suggested, my only choices are cut, copy, delete or select all, no "edit text".
I have no other options to choose another font. Thanks for any help you can direct my way.

Error message when compiling book "file is corrupt" referring to a photo.  Or "cannot find original photo".  Can you use photos that have been "edited" out of "Book Mode"?

I did copy it to my desktop, but it still won't let me open it.  I think the file on the disc might be corrupt or something like that though the cd itself checks out fine as far as viruses go.  I was able to verify the disc, but that's about it.  My husband tried it on his iMac and we have the same issue.  It's unzipping the folder, but won't let us open the folder on both the Mac Book Pro or the iMac by double clicking, going to file/open or right clicking.  It just keeps saying the same message as I posted above.  I think I'm just going to have the client put the pictures on either a memory card or a USB memory stick so she won't have to compress the files for zipping purposes.  It's been too frustrating trying to open this folder on this cd she gave me.  She said she created/zipped the cd on her Mac Book Pro but it sure won't open on mine.

You can open a pdf in the PSE editor. When you open the pdf, a dialog will ask you  which page to chose (if it's a multipage pdf) and which parameters to use for the conversion to bitmap.
Since you are on a flattened bitmap (psd, tiff, png, jpeg...) all text will be converted and you won't be able to edit text (which is vector format).

  • How can i edit a scanned pdf file in adobe 9 pro ?

how can i edit a scanned pdf file in adobe acrobae 9 pro ?

With Clear Scan you get the text replacing the graphics of text. That can be edited. If you do searchable PDF conversion, you can still edit (I think). However it is an edit of the hidden layer of text behind the graphic and does not show on screen normally.
Usually the best choice is to ask the author for the original file to edit. If that is a copyright issue, then you should not be editing anyway.

  • How do I edit/convert a pdf using Acrobat Pro?

I am trying to convert/edit(not sure of the proper term to relay my dilemna; my experience with Acrobat Pro and pdf's is limited.) a pdf file.  I want to use edit some of the content on the document.  I am aware of the "typewriter" tool and have used this in completing pdf documents fo "fill in" the blanks (ex: completing an application); however, this will not work when I try to edit the actual content.
Does anyone have any suggestions?  Keep in mind you HAVE to use very "simple" language when explaining to me how I do this, ha!
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Maybe you need to remove your PDF security so then you can edit it. Adobe Acrobat cannot edit the limited PDF files.
    Remove the PDF security
I am now using Adreamsoft PDF eidtor, With this smart PDF edit software, you can edit the text, images, annotation, layouts and pages of a PDF file. And you can also edit a PDF file by setting security password.

how do i edit a scanned pdf document in word?

In order to edit a scanned PDF anywhere, you'll need to run Optical Character Recognition so it can covert the text from an image to actual text.
That would require Adobe Acrobat once the PDF is created. If you are using scanning software to create the PDF, that option may be in the software so you can OCR it as you create it.

  • Editing Text in PDF

Hello!  My project is to create a fillable form PDF.  I started in InDesign and then used Adobe Acrobat Pro to place the fields.
Now I need to update some of the text at the bottom of the last page.  It appears that I cannot do that in Acrobat, I probably need to go back to InDesign.  How do I duplicate / import all of the fields, settings, and tab order so that they appear exactly where they are in the current revision?  Acrobat says that the document is secured and I can't edit the form, so will that hinder this process?
    Thank you.

This FAQ explains how to enable editing on the PDF:

I have a PC desktop and an iPad.  I have a large library of PDF documents on my desktop that I would like to sync with my iPad.  I would like to be able to download new PDF's and make edits on existing PDF's on either device and have those edits and new PDFs synced to the other device.  I would also like to have my library available on the iPad even if there isn't a wifi connection (i.e., not on the cloud).  Is that possible.  I don't mind if I have to purchase a separate product or a product upgrade ect.

You can't use an external hard drive like you would with a computer.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
When you first connect the USB flash drive, you will only see thumbnails of the pics on the iPad; you have to import the pic file to see the full size. With your large library of pics, you will have to do this repeateably and then delete pics so you don't exceed your memory capacity.

  • Can't Edit .txt and .pdf files in EP6 KM

We just migrated our last application from EP5 to EP6, and now we're having problems with not being able to edit .txt and .pdf files.  The problem is that the files will only open in the browser rather than in their native programs (wordpad/notepad, Adobe Editor, etc).  Surely others have encountered this issue.  Are there any solutions short of installing 3rd party tools?

    Hi Jeff,
Which program opens on a link depends on two things:
    1. The MIME-Type that is sent from the server together with the resource (file) you requested by clicking a link
    2. Your Windows Setting defining which local application should be used for which MIME Type.
So there may be two things happening:
    1. EP 6 is sending other (or no) MIME Types with the KM resources. You can check this in your KM configuration. See KM -> Services -> MIME Service
    2. Your OS got the settings for apps/MIMEs changed. This happens e.g. if you changed on Win XP to SP 2.
So here may be a solution:
    Go to Windows Explorer->Tools->Folder
Options->File Types, click on the TXT extention, and click
"Delete".  Then proceed to recreate the TXT file type with the
    default app you want (notepad).
IE will open your app (notepad) for links to text files from that point
    on.
So, to check this for text files, open the registry editor, go to
"My Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt" (or .TXT), and check for a 'String
    Value' with the value "text/plain".
This should work with any file type, as long as you use the right MIME Type (See KM configuration / MIME Services).
    HTH,
    Carsten

Adobe Reader does not allow editing the text of a PDF document. You will need to get Acrobat on your Windows or Mac to do that.
