Is Elements Organizer 9 robust (powerful) enough to organize 10,000 photos without crashing?

I'm scanning literally thousands of photos from my 40 years as a photographer. I'm currently using Elements Organizer 9 to keep them organized using keytags and dates. I want to know if I can trust this basket to hold ALL my "eggs". I'm afraid I may get a "corrupt catalog" error message and all my work will be null and void. I would love to switch to using Adobe Bridge but it's out of my price range right now as I'm home on disabnility with a torn shoulder.
Does anyone know of Elements Organizer can handle 10,000 plus photos without crashing?

I have been using PSE6, PSE10, PSE11 and PSE12 with catalogs containing 50 000 items. There has been posts about users with more than 100 000 items. The organizer offers a good backup scheme.

A 'corrupt' catalog is something very rare, but you'll see many posts about catalogs containing 'corrupt' media files (mainly videos). The risk is minimal if you regularly use the built-in tools to repair and optimize the catalog and do regular backups.
One of the main concerns about losing one's organization is about keywords, captions, tags and notes. The organizer lets you save those data to the files themselves, so that they are accessible to any other editing software.
A PSE9 catalog can be read and converted to more recent Elements versions, as well as by Lightroom. I would advise upgrading to PSE12 when you can, but PSE9 is still a valid option.

  • How to rotate an insert in photo without rotating entire photo in Elements 11

On Adobe Elements 11 can you rotate an insert to a photo without rotatine entire photo?

Make a selection of the object which you wish to rotate, using one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool
Place the selection on its own layer (CTRL+J)
Press CTRL+T to get the transform tool. Hover the cursor outside the box until you see a curved arrow, then rotate. You can adjust the size of the object with the corner handles of the bounding box, if necessary
Open a blank layer at the top of the stack of layers in the layers palette, and use the clone tool to touch up any spots that need it after the rotation

I downloaded and installed Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements.  I then launched Photoshop Elements Organizer and imported approx. 28,000 photos (including some videos).  A window opened indicating that many of the photos had tags, and asking if I wanted to add the tags.  I said yes, and the process began.  When it reached 60% a window opened indicating that "Elements 13 Organizer has stopped working", with the only option being to "Close program."
I've since tried to open organizer several times, but it goes immediately to "Elements 13 Organizer has stopped working".  I was able to open Editor, and tried opening Organizer from Editor, but encountered the same problem.
FYI, I have an open case (#0214505556), but have not received the help I need.

This issue is with respect to Elements 13.

  • How can I get Elements 11 to open up in Organizer rather than Editor?

How can I get Elements 11 to open up in Organizer rather than in Editor?

Well, you can go to Window>Welcome and make your change there, but the welcome screen leaves a process always running, so you would do better to go into the Program Files or Program Files (x86) in windows or the applications folder on a mac and find the actual .exe/application for the organizer and make a desktop shortcut/dock icon and use that in the future to launch the organizer, avoiding the welcome screen entirely.

can someone help me with this issue?

Two suggestions:  the first one is a workaround. You just have to drill down your program file tree to Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer and find the .exe file - the one specifically for Organizer, not Elements.  Make a shortcut to that file on your desktop and it will open Organizer. The second suggestion resolved the problem altogether for me. I actually called Dell and after working with several different techs over several different days, I talked to a tech in premium support who was excellent. I discovered from them that it is actually a problem with the windows system files. I have 8.1.  I went through a "refresh" on my computer which rebuilt all the files. Then reinstalled Adobe as well as my other programs again and Photoshop Elements Organizer works from the standard desktop shortcut.

  • Does upgrading from Premiere Elements 12 to 13 solve the Organizer thumbnail problem?

Thumbnails do not show up after importing clips into Premiere Elements 12 Organizer.  I've tried right clicking on a clip and telling it to recreate the thumbnail but it doesn't work. I've tried refreshing and repairing the catalog.  I've even started a new catalog and reimported the files.  The system says it's creating thumbnails but they still do not show up.  Does upgrading from Premiere Elements 12 to 13 solve the Organizer thumbnail problem?

That is one of those questions best answered by evaluating Elements Organizer13 with your specific files in your specific computer environment.
Each of the Elements Organizer versions often appears to carry along its own baggage.
One of the things that came up about Elements Organizer 13 thumbnails recently was a problem with files with MPEG2
video compression. The Adobe word on this was that this is only an Elements Organizer 13 tryout issue...supposed not to exist
    in the purchased version.

I have just installed Photoshop Elements for a MAC. MY photos were in iPhoto, I have 47,000 pictures and my drive on my Mac laptop is not large enough. I store my photos in iPhoto on an external drive. Can I store all my photos on an external drive when using Photoshop Elements? If so, in what format should they be stored in? I do I move them from iPhoto to the new storage location? How do I call them up in organizer? And how do I call them up to Edit? I do not want to store any pictures on my Apple Mac laptop. I want to store pictures on several external devices.

Yes you can store images on an external hard dive and have them referenced in Organizer. It’s best to export copies to separate folders/subfolders and that will ensure iPhoto does not get corrupted.
Alternatively you could continue to use iPhoto with the Elements Editor set up in the iPhoto prefs as your external editing app. Then there is no need to use Organizer and no need to duplicate your images.
You can then call up photos directly from iPhoto as normal with the additional option e.g.
Double-click on a thumbnail to edit in iPhoto editor.
Control (right) - click on a thumbnail to edit in the elements app.

  • Is MacBook Air powerful enough to run Creative Suite?

I have just about about finished my 30 day Creative Cloud Trial and will sign up. However, I am also in teh process of choosing a new macbook to  run it on. I don't have a laptop at the moment I have been using my iMac for everything. What I want to know is, is the new MacBook Air which was  launched yesterday  powerful enough to run Adobe creative applications? A macBook Pro seems like the obvious choice but as this is my second computer and I wont use it as much as my iMac  I am mainly focusing on weight  and price - I wil mainly use it when travelling a couple of months each year but I still need to work effectively with Creative Cloud. Can you please advise?

Yes, any MAC which is above 10.6.8 can run Creative Cloud.
The tech specs for various CS 6 applicatons can be checked over here :  http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/tech-specs.html
Hope this will help you decide better.!!

  • Is an MBP powerful enough as an upgrade ?

I currently have a Powermac G5 (dual 2Ghz) that I would like to pass on to my wife.
Is the MBP powerful enough to be considered an upgrade to the G5 ?
I primarily use it for Lightroom, Photoshop CS2, Final Cut Express HD, Xcode and WoW. I can accept Photoshop and Final Cut Express being slow due to emulation until next year when CS3 is released. All of the others are univeral binaries.
I think one of my big issues is around disk capacity and performance... Is there any way to hook up a couple of large SATA disks to an MBP ?
Does this seem like a feasible upgrade or would I have to look at the Mac Pro ?

I wnt from a G4 tower to a Core Duo Macbook a few months ago & picked up a C2D 2.33 MBP last night. I can tell you a fair bit about real-world performance comparisons between these machines & a friends G5 dual where rendering in After Effects is the test.
To start, I rendered a vector-heavy project on my old G4 867mhz tower, & it took 27 minutes. The same project on the first Macbook (single Duo) took 11 minutes, & then just over 5 minutes on the dual G5. This was enough to prompt me to start using the macbook for work as well as @ home surfing etc. that I had originally been considering it for. With a large external monitor & a stand it sets up nicely as a workstation.... After using it this way for I while, I realized having my computer & work files wherever I was was a HUGE benefit to my freelance animation business. I have set the macbook up & rendered with it in the trunk of my car while I went grocery shopping, how cool is that?
ANYWAY, to get to the real point, having just picked up the MBP last night, one of the first things I did was load After Effects & re-render a project that I had built on the Macbook, & rendered there in 3 hrs. 40 minutes. On the MBP, it took 2 hrs 10 minutes, & probably puts it in line with the performance of that G5 now, I would speculate. When the universal Adobe apps come out? This thing will be PLENTY fast for my needs, & portable as well!

  • Is there any automatic bookmark-organizer addon for Firefox to organize my bookmarks?

Is there any automatic bookmark-organizer addon for Firefox to organize my bookmarks? Because I have a lot of unorganized bookmarks, and it would take a long time to organize them, considering I now have too many and want to finally sort them... Like a sorter based off of keyword or most used or wikis or blogs or something would be cool. Or something based off of Firefox Internet Dashboard addon (use that as an organizer). Thanks for anyone's help!

There are many. You must decide what is good for you.
    Go to the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ Mozilla Add-ons Web Page]''' {web link}
(There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.
    There is also;
    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmark-duplicate-cleaner/ Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner]''' {web link}
Scans for bookmark duplicates and allows you to delete them
    '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmarks-checker/ Bookmarks Checker - check for bad links]''' {web link}
Check favorites for broken or bad links. It checks for bad links and
displays a report if it finds something. Check for 404 links, timeout links.

  • Is My Computer Powerful Enough?

Hello, everyone. I have an "old" Dual 2 Gig G5 with 2 Gigs of RAM and PCI 33 slots (i.e. the older variation - NOT PCI X). This "old" and "dinosaur" moniker always, always makes me laugh, by the way, because although I got the computer a few years ago and it has since been lapped a few times over by the MacPros, Quads, and multi core machines that are out now, this machine that I have now is STILL a monster by my standards, and, although it's not HD capable (the PCI 33 slots are not powerful enough to accept an HD signal), I think it's still got some good fight left in it.
    Anyway, this is my question:
I have Final Cut Studio in this machine. Is my computer powerful enough to process/work with a 4:2:2 color space at a 10 Bit depth via a Sony Digi Beta deck? I'm finishing up a DV feature that, I believe, was on a 4:1:1 color space with an 8 Bit depth, and this G5, of course, handled that with flying colors. However, I'm thinking about the 10 Bit 4:2:2 setup for a feature I'm planning on doing on 16mm this year and would like to see if this computer can handle that as well.
Thank you in advance for the help, all.
    Javier Calderon

What Sony converter box? Converts S-Video to firewire? Well then, you'll be capturing your digibeta as DV...decreasing the quality quite a bit. No, that box cannot capture uncompressed footage, but rather convert it to DV quality. And there would be no point working uncompressed because, well, you cannot output uncompressed with that converter box either. And what about deck control? Without a capture card like the AJA I/O (standard def card that connects via firewire400) you cannot accomplish what you are wanting to accomplish. The AJA I/O has SDI, Component and composite connections. And you can get the lesser expensive I/O LA if cost is a factor (when isn't it?)
The Internal SATA drive will be fine for uncompressed SD (The second one, not the one with the OS on it), and if the other SATA drives are eSATA, then they will work. If they are firewire 400 drives, they will not.

  • Anyone using a Mac Mini and LE8-Is it powerful enough?

I'm looking at buying a 2.0GHz Mini and LE8. I have a monitor and an external 500 GB FireWire hard drive. Just wondering if anyone is using a similar set-up to do large recording projects on. Is it powerful enough to have 20 to 30 audio tracks in a song?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. TIA
    R

    Yes.
    I run a 2Mhz mini(or possibly 1,86MhZ) 2GbRam mini and LE 8.01.
    With Apogee Duet.
It works ok. I occasionally get overload messages - particularly if I try to run a project immediately it opens (LE seems to take a while to load all tracks of a project) - have some projects with 20 tracks - as do the provided examples.
It records fine - voice and guitar, and midi through USB port and midi adapter.
Prior to Duet I use standard i/o ports for in/out audio.
I do not run projects off the my external firewire drive - although the examples work fine in play back mode - I doubt if it would work for complex project re recording - possibly too much contention - and the Duet has my firewire port used.
Freezing tracks helps, and a bity of patience as everything gets paged in.
    Your mileage may vary.
    Hope this helps
