Is eps suited for a newspaper

am new to indesign and just got a job in a publishing company responsible for the layout of their newspaper, am used to working with jpeg but them my predecessor was using .eps files, my problem is that the eps files appear bad in document but good in print, but lately i streched a picture too much and had no way of telling if its pixilated or not, how can i notice that a picture has been stretched too far.. PARDOM MY ENGLISH

When Makate said "i hope this is not too late to save my job..
so you agree that i should not convert these images to eps, i should place them as jpegs. What is the correct resolution because some pics are sourced from the net and might not have the same res as the ones from the journos."
It inspired me to add my thoughts to this conversation. I am a basic knowledge user of ID so I'm not going to be able to give you expert advice like the others, but I want to offer my simple thoughts.
First, do what the experienced people said—talk to the prepress people and begin establishing a good working relationship with them to define the requirements for publication. I find that if you establish good lines of communication and ask intelligent questions, people usually are motivated to help you. Don't be uncomfortable saying to your new employer that you don't know the answer to a particular situation, followed by a confident attitude that you will sure find out. You have an incredible resource here in this forum where you can receive great help. Employers appreciate when their people are hardworking and dedicated to doing a good job. Makate you seem that and more. I think you'll do fine when you get your feet wet in this job.
This part I'm going out on a limb because I may not know what I'm talking about, but when you said "what if the picture is smaller than the space reserved..." Here's my input.
1. Always save the photo you receive or obtain in the original format.
2. Make a copy that you then use to edit to whatever resolution you learn from the prepress people is what they want.
3. If the reserved space is 2 x 3 or ? edit your photo in photoshop to fit that space.
So, hang in there, be optimistic and go for success. (Donuts or cookies now and again to show your appreciation to the help you receive from the prepress people couldn't hurt either!)
Good luck,
Patty

I got my 27" Mac on 10/06/13...can I, or rather shouldn't I, get the iwork suite for free?  2 weeks is a hard hit for $60 in apps after spending $1800.  The store told me that Mavericks was guarenteed for 6 months.  So when I bought it early, (knowing that Mavericks was coming), I had no fears.  But to watch the keynote today, and come home and see the cost is a bit of a sour Apple.

Are you trying to install a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows 8?
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp.

  • White background or Black background suited for long term watching ?

    Hello,
I saw many desktop themes with white or light grey background a few years ago, but now, many of them turn into black background with white or blue or cyan or others color of fonts.
As a programmer, I am just curious about the theme: which type is suited for long term use of computer?
I have tried both, and found grey background is easy to read because it is similiar to read on paper, but it looks like a lighting-bulb!; black background with blue font is cool, along with less luminosity, seems free my eyes.
But another problem is the color choosing. With light grey background, it seems any color is right. But with black background, colors should be carefully selected, since some colors are not suit black background at all.
Grayscale is another one. With light grey  background, I can easily tune my font in grayscale, like Japanese cartoon paper (I like it very much!), gracifully to distinct keywords. But with black background, it is ugly to use grayscale to distinct keywords.
      How about your ideas?

I commented out the external logo calls (since the new logo area fits really nicely with this style), The sections I commented out can probably be removed safely, and I made the textbox post area more readable.  Now I love the new webpage layout!
Here's the dark home page style I'm using, also based on Hrwa's archlinx homepage userstyle, but I havent made too many changes there, other than the package search box needed a little tweeking.   I havent really checked the other pages, I do know the wiki pages have some issues with this style, if anyone else wants to help out

Hi, has anyone tried this software?..saw it on Ebay..as I was looking at Mac stuff..

I have never heard of that either. Do you need to open/edit Microsoft Office documents? If so, I would recommend you give NeoOffice a try first. It's based on the free OpenOffice, but does not require you to install Apple's X11 windowing system first. It's actually worked pretty well for me. If you find that NeoOffice does not meet your needs, then I would save-up to buy a full copy of Microsoft Office for the Mac.

  • How to import playlists in the new plays-for-sure suit for zen to

    hey all,
well before the new touch firmware, i could import wmp playlists using the import feature of media source, and then transfer it to my touch using media source as well
now my meida source does not recognize my zen touch with the new firmware on it (2.), and im using the new suite explorer that they are telling us to use with Zen now. What I can't find in this new software suite is any import feature for playlists. IF I still import using media source, I can not transfer it to the touch cause it doesn't appear in the destination panel. I couldnt find a way to save the imported playlist (in media source) to disk and then drag and drop the file using the new software suit. I could not find any file on my computer with zpl extension, even though they show up in media source.
so HOW can i import wmp playlists to my zen touch with the new firmware. And do not even mention automatic synching using WMP. that just isn't what I'm looking for...
help and suggestions are eagerly awaited...

You need to install the latest MediaSource first:
    - Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site.
After that, download and install the Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Touch Players.

  • Setting cipher suites for ssl sockets

    Hi
While setting cipher suites for ssl serversocket and socket, there may be lot of stream ciphers and block ciphers in the list. (also there may or may not be anonymous cipher suites).
How does the ssl socket decide which cipher suite to use?
    Sorry for this newbie question.
    Thank you.

Have you read the JSSE Reference Guide? It has a really good description of how the SSL handshake works. Part of the "Client Hello" step includes sending all the cipher-suites the client has enabled. The server picks the "best" of that set, that the server also supports, and sends it back as part of the "Server Hello". Both sides switch to that set.
Now, what "best" means isn't defined. I'm not sure what criteria the server uses to determine that. Maybe someone else reading the thread can chime in.
