Is FCE exporting anamorphic in default? Or what is this?

I am a total newbie in FCE, I only have some experience about iMovie.
Here is the problem:
I have captured material from MiniDV camera in PAL format (I am in Finland, Europe), and everything looks just fine in the editor. But when I export it as a Quicktime, it stretches the image vertically. Thus it looks bad in every 4:3 displays.
However, if I capture the material in PAL ANAMORPHIC, it looks flattened or squeezed in FCE. And when I export, it will appear as normal!
Surely, I can just edit everything in flattened looks, and the end result is fine in 4:3 displays, which I need to use in this project. But it doesn't feel right...
What am I doing wrong? Any quick insights are grately appreciated!! Thanks, Jari

Tom, Thanks for help!
I try to clarify:
I have shot the material as 4:3 PAL.
In the end, I want to burn a DVD and play it on a 4:3 data projector.
In FCE I first used the DV-PAL setting in Easy Setup for capturing. All was good. When I exported, however, the image appeared stretched vertically in QuickTime player and in iDVD. When burned and displayed in 16:9 TV all was good again. Unfortunately, I don't have an 16:9 projector.
Then, in despair, I captured the material using DV-PAL Anamorphic setting. Now I had the material in squeezed format in FCE. And when I export I have normal 4:3 image in QT and iDVD.
Any insights? Thanks!

I installed iWork11 but the '09 versions of the software are still running--and the default. What do I need to do to get the '11 versions working?

It's very simple. If you want to use iPhoto, just let it manage things as it does. Other than that: Export from iPhoto and delete the image from iPhoto. That will remove the master and all versions.
If space is an issue... use an external disk.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

  • Any way to change Export to Web defaults?

I like the Export to Web option in QuickTime Pro. What I don't like are the defaults it uses for Desktop and iPhone. Is there a way to change the defaults but still use this menu option? The long way is to of course export the files one at a time. But that would defeat the convenience of this neat menu item.
I'm guessing this is hard wired into the program?

David M - I am already essentially doing that using VisualHub. I was just hoping for a more one-click approach.
It's sad, really. It seems like having a place for users to defined these presets would be an easy and almost natural addition. Maybe Apple will ready this and added it to the next version of Pro? I get why they have it the way they have it. It's a no-brainer approach. Me like. But some of us would also like to fine to the no-brainer thing. Some brainer? Hmmm.

I have the same problem, and I also wondered if Google toolbar has anything to do with it. There GMAIL was set as the default mail application at first. I have removed that setting, but Firefox 4.0.1 continues to use GMAIL instead of Outlook which is my selection for mailto handling.

  • Export to PDF defaults to HTML file instead of Adobe PDF since moving to CC2014

    Hi friends!
Help please. Ever since I moved to CC2014 my InDesign and Illustrator is defaulting to HTML files instead of Adobe PDF when exporting to PDF. I also use this same software at another workplace and this has not been a problem there. I am on PC, on Windows 7. Does anybody know of a preference or such that I can switch to correct this?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Mindy.

This is the window I am getting when attempting to use Data merge in ID. Have used this successfully before in previous versions of InDesign. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • [bug] DB Export - Varchar(n) DEFAULT 'x'

Bug exists in SQL Developer version 1.5.4.MAIN-5940, as well as in old ones.
When exporting DB (Tools -> Database Export, even with default settings), incorrect CREATE TABLE statements can be generated.
After every column of Varchar(n) type, where n can be any number, having DEFAULT values (whether string literals like *'x'* or predefined values like user, a new line marker is added. If it is not the last column, it simply does not look good:
    bq.      {font:Courier New}{color:#808080}CREATE TABLE "table"{color}{font}{color:#808080} \\     {color}{font:Courier New}{color:#808080}( "COLUMN_A" DATE DEFAULT sysdate,{color}{font}{color:#808080} \\     {color}{font:Courier New}{color:#808080}"COLUMN_B" VARCHAR(255) DEFAULT user{color}{font}{color:#808080} \\     {color}{font:Courier New}{color:#808080},{color}{font}{color:#808080} \\     {color}{font:Courier New}{color:#808080}"COLUMN_C" VARCHAR(255){color}{font}{color:#808080} \\     {color}{font:Courier New}{color:#808080});{color}{font}
But if it is the last one, created statement is incorrect as it contains an empty line like this:
    bq.      {font:Courier New}{color:#808080} \\     CREATE TABLE "table"{color}{font}{font:Courier New}{color:#808080}\\     ( "COLUMN_A" DATE DEFAULT sysdate,{color}{font}{font:Courier New}{color:#808080}\\     "COLUMN_B" VARCHAR(255) DEFAULT user{color}{font}{color:#808080} \\     {color}{font:Courier New}{color:#808080} \\     );{color}{font}

There are indeed various problems with exporting. Current workaround is creating a view (temporarily) and exporting form there.

  • HT4296 What does this mean "remains disabled by default in this update"? Does that mean I don't have Java any more because of this update?

What does this mean (referring to the Java update on the Mac OS X 10.5.8) "remains disabled by default in this update"? Does that mean I don't have Java any more because of this update?

You should still have JAVA.  Open Safari, then in the top Menu Bar, click on Safari and pull down to Preferences.
Safari> Preferences> Security> and click check the buttons next to Enable JAVA and Enable Javascript.
You might have to restart Safari, I'm not sure about that.
    Good luck.

  • Exported MOV file from Express - what do I compress it as for media???

I exported a MOV file from Final Cut Express. Looks great. Now I need to send it to broadcast - CNN, NBC, etc.
What format should I compress it with Sorenson Squeeze 6? I've tried different presets but want to know what's the best one to use. Please help. Need responses ASAP.

I'm sorry, I meant to write you have to ask the broadcasters what they want. They can have a lot of very different demands.
This is also very dependent of what your material is. Fine, you exported to QuickTime Movie, but what did you export. HD? SD? What specification? If you don't know, open the file in the QT player and report exactly what it says in the movie inspector.
You can put anything on a big enough FTP server provided you have the time and a wide enough pipe. It's probably going to be a really big file or files so you'd better have a really fast connection and/or a lot of time. Sometimes FedExing a drive is faster.

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

You need more free space on your hard drive.
Where do Your material come from
    Camera
    External hard disk
    USB-memory
And all are connected so that iMovie can find it ?

    Set-Up might differ
Mac OS - most probably X.7 or more
    iMovie version - more than iM'11 v. 9.0.4

Finalizing project - I never do as I never understood the gain to do so
Share as HD to iDVD - never give any gain but if it works the resulting DVD is less quality than if SD-quality was shared
    fps - set - I only use PAL (25fps)

  • Export iPhoto slideshow to a DVD, but get message "OS Status Error -9459".  What does this mean?

I have created a slideshow (with music) in iPhoto, and each time that I try to export the slideshow, iPhoto stops the process and gives me the error message "OS Status Error -9459".  What does this mean?

Go into the System/Energy Saver preference pane and turn OFF all options.  Also turn off the screensaver. Then try again.

  • Weird flash and dim in QT after FCE export

    Hi everyone,
Occasionally, my movies will export with strange effects like when still picture will dim after a little while on screen (similar to laptop dimming due to energy saver settings) and a hard cut to another picture with flash with white even if I do not have a transition in place. What gives?
p.s. I have rendered everything until there are no more check marks left to click, I have messed around a little with frame rates and keyframes and I have saved and I don't know what to do next.
Thanks in advance for any tips you have!

    Concertpix wrote:
...Now render before exporting to QT, I suppose?
You don't really have to. Exporting is kinda the same as rendering. Only thing is that if you do not render before export, FCP does not 'remember' this rendering.
If you think you'll needs parts of the render files later, you might render first.
Others in this forum do deliberately throw away the renders before they export, in order to avoid artifacts. Personally I prefer to see rendered footage before I export. I can see what I am sending to the export-application then. Haven't have any trouble so far.
    So. It's up to you.

  • Export anamorphic JPEG

    Hello,
Another problem, i would like to know how to export anamorphic JPEG images?
When you export JPEG in AE, pixel aspect ratio  have automatically the value 1, i would like to export one HDV frame 1440*1080 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.33, is that possible?
Even if i set an output module template, i can't success?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fred

I can't see any preset resize settings in the output module that would give you that, but you could create a new output module template with the correct resize and have the script apply that.
If the problem is that this still doesn't tag the output with the correct aspect ratio, maybe you could have the script put the output comp in another comp with the correct pixel aspect and render it through that.

  • Osstatus error -108 when exporting slideshow ... what does this mean?

I googles this and can't find anyone who has had it. How can you find out without being an operating systems developer!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What happens to the slideshow other than giving you this error. Don't know what it means. However, several users have reported iPhoto crashing when trying to export a slideshow. You might search this forum for that to see if you're experiencing something similar. As far as I know there was no fix found.
Be sure to report it to Apple via via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
