Is FCP optimized for multicore (ie the new G5s)?

New G5 PowerMacs are out and I've been reading conflicting reports about this. Some say FCP is already optimized for using multicore processors, others say it will take a FCP rewrite for this to be the case.
So, who's right?

I'm curious about this too I've ordered a top-end machine.
Apple's benchmarks claim something like 68% improved speed over the current 2.7 dual G5 with "SD content" in FCP. Taken with a grain of salt we can assume it could be more like %50 in real world use which is a decent improvement. It also may be limited to certain tasks, specifically RT Extreme.
Another consideration is how much multitasking will (or won't) be improved by having two more CPU cores for the whole system. So when you're batching via Compressor or some other CPU-bound task you can still work on other things with less of of a hit (i.e. the rendering saturates as much CPU as it can "see" and you can still work off the remaining available CPU assuming the Finder et al "see" the remainder). This sort of ability is well worth having if you've juggled deadlines and have one machine at your disposal.
A real source on this will pop up once these get around. Ars Technica is a good place to watch.

Exactly the same problem with me.
Some other threads advice to remove fonts, clean the caches, remove add ins but nothing works consistenty, for some it looks like it works, for me it failed.
What I did not try yet, was to move the Render files out of the malicious library to trash.

I have converted the videos so they can be viewed on the ipad but imovie will not recognize them. 10.0.8 is no longer available, except in the trial version. The current sale version is 10.0.9. Apple has never sold older versions of their software, only the current version. That's not going to change in the near future.

i just now logged in the icloud from browser, there when you go to contacts, you will see a settings icon to the bottom left of the screen. it does give option to export and import vCards.. i did not see outlook option though. i dont remember how i did it last time exactly.. outlook does create vcards, right?

How do I search for playlists with the new Youtube App?

I just got home to find the new Youtube app on my Apple TV. It seems great, but searches no longer find playlists, only individual videos. As most of my Youtube viewing on Apple TV is Let's Play playlists, without the ability to search for playlists, the app is nearly useless for me.
Am I just overlooking something or did they really remove the ability to search for playlists?

I've had my Macbook for about 2 1/2 years now with insurance from PC World here in the UK. I was hesitant at first to hand in my Macbook earlier to be replaced using the insurance as it takes 2 weeks to be fixed (terrible, I know).
But now that it's the end of the summer holidays and I'll be returning to the university, I think that it's the perfect time to hand it in for repair.
I have an external hard drive capable of containing everything (apps, files etc.), but what is the best way of backing up the files, and how would I go about uploading the data onto the new Macbook? I remember on startup that there was an option to extract files from an external hard drive?

You can use Time Machine to back up your files and then use the Migration assistant to bring back your files from the Time Machine backup. Other applications such as Carbon Copy Cloner may also do the job for you.

On the hope that latest version of itunes will work more for me, I downloaded the itunes version 12 recently. But to my surprise the sync button is not there even if I connect the ipod ( classic iOS 1.3 version). My ipod serial No.is 8L730BL1V9M and it is ipod classic with buttonwheel. I am having 32bit Windows vista home premium and using DELL system. How I can find sync button and for your information, the itunes player window shows every song I have in the library and I cannot sync the songs to my ipod. Hitherto there was no such problem for playing and copying songs from and to my ipod. What is the remedy ? please tell if anybody knows.

For those considering the new MBA, a short review.

I've had my new MBA (1.86GHz, 128 GB SSD) for two days, and I'm delighted with it. I thought, therefore, that it might be useful to post my experience with the machine for anyone considering buying one.
The first thing I noticed was how incredibly fast the MBA is. I've got a first gen Intel MBP and a Santa Rosa MB, but the MBA simply destroys them in boot time/app loading time/web page load time, you name it. I'm sure the CPU accounts for some of this, but most of the credit has to go to the solid state disk. It's definitely worth the extra money for such a noticeable speed boost. Nothing lags and nothing drags; the whole system is impressively responsive.
It's also eerily silent. There's no disk whirring, of course, but also very little sound from the fan. I know overheating and all manner of CPU-throttling, video-stuttering nastiness affected the old MBA, but none of that has manifested itself on my machine. I spent a couple of hours testing it out with flash movies, YouTube videos, a DVD (via SuperDrive), and a bit of gaming (Spore runs fine, by the way), but nothing got hotter than 60 degrees C. I'd say Apple have definitely fixed the heating problems.
The result is a fast, quiet, stylish machine that gives many full-sized laptops a run for their money. The first generation MBA was labeled a "secondary laptop" by some reviewers, a machine intended for those who already had an MBP or Mac Pro at home, but who wanted something a bit more portable. Version 2 is, on the other hand, an excellent primary lapop for those users who don't have the need for high-end, discrete graphics.
Of course, everything has its downside, and the MBA is no exception. It could use another USB port (to save me having to carry a port replicator), the mini-DisplayPort video output required the purchase of yet another set of converter dongles (grumble grumble), and the trackpad button seems to require a bit too much force to operate (other threads have highlighted this issue so it may be a fault in some machines). When I first booted the MBA, the iSight camera didn't work, but a quick SMU reset fixed that. The glossy screen is fine for me, although I understand the point of view of those on the other side of the debate, so I can see how it could be a negative.
And that's pretty much it. I bought the MBA to be a "travel companion," very much secondary to my other Macs. After a couple of days, however, I have relegated my MacBook to secondary status, and made the MBA my main Mac. It's a delight to own and use. I highly recommend it.

I have a problem with lines on mine. They are in the form of faint horizontal lines running across the whole screen. They are very noticeable on a white background, i.e. when typing on a word processor. I have a MacBook and two iMacs in the house, and these don't exhibit the same problems.
I find that my eyes get fairly tired after an hour or so use with the Air. The text is not as clear as my MacBook. It was quite disappointing as I expected the display to be better than the MacBook.
It does seem that quite a few people are having the same problem. There are a lot of postings on forums even at this early stage, for example:

However, I have a case ID with Apple and will try and reset the Air’s System Management Controller when I get home tonight. If that doesn’t work I’m going to send the Air back for replacement. Considering the cost of the Air I do want to get one that is clear of any defects. Apple support has been very good thus far. I’m also wondering is a driver fix for the Nvidia chip set might solve the problem?
This issue aside it is a fabulous computer. I think Apple have got the spec spot on with the rev2 Air. It’s responsive, runs cool and is a total joy to use.

Where is the restore button for iPhones on the new version of itunes

I have bought an iPhone 4 which was on orange ee.
The friend has paid them to unlock it and they confirmed it has been done but my voda sim shows no service.
The instructions from ee mention restore from iTunes but the new version doesn't appear to have to have this button.
Can someone let me have the process for resetting a network unlocked phone through iTunes.
